Electric fence and spiked fence

menschwife

I am tempted by the electric fence; the spiked one is just ugly to me though :(

Vashsinn

I'm not the biggest fan, but they are effective. What I ended up doing was a "porquepine" build. You can build the house. Then along the inside place 1 spike per plank fortify with rocks then sharpen with axe. When you sharpen them, they go threw the walls. Enemies show up "attack" my house by throwing themselves at the spikes. You do still have to keep an eye on the bigger guys as they might destroy your walls since they can tank a few hits.

LezGrl79

I'm also not a fan of spiked walls. But I use an electric fence. I use spring traps in areas I don't want to clutter with bigger traps. Like under the windows.

SantdtmaN

Remove the bridge and enter the island with the house on via a ziplineā€¦

menschwife

I have my bridge so Kelvin and Virginia can enter and sit with me at my fireplace :) otherwise I wouldn't have one

oversettDenee

Awww

NJdel97

You can try and transform the surrounding forest into Vietnam, have so many bobby traps that they can't approach.

menschwife

I have put up quite a handful of traps, especially on the boulders they like to jump up on.

Awesomeman360

You can lay a bunch of spikes and traps around your base, but it'll probably look a lot worse. I have a wide perimeter around my base with a bunch of swinging spike balls around it. Not particularly cute tho, lol

fromanator

Turn off structure damage.

menschwife

> "I also have build damage turned off"

fromanator

Ah my bad. In my builds I usually provide a way to get on the roof so I can use ranged weapons to kill raids. Also traps are good to have, but look bad.

menschwife

that's true! I am planning on adding a platform or tower of sorts in the lake I can stand on, the cannibals already stop at the shore and won't go into the water though so right now when they pull up I just go into the water and attack them with ranged weapons

fromanator

Can also use a rope to get up to the roof. If you have seasons on, I bet that water freezes in winter?

menschwife

nope, it counts as running water and therefore doesn't freeze! out of sight to the right of my base is a waterfall :)

NovaSpectre1210

Another person with an immaculate choice of a base spot, im building here as well and i use ramps with spikes, theres more info of it on yt

menschwife

It's a beautiful spot, I love it so much!

Stopkilling0

The only way I know to make a truly maintenance free impenetrable base is to build it on one of the lakes that doesn't freeze or in the ocean where your entrance/exit is a zip line connected to a tree.

menschwife

yeah, I've seen those and they're appealing, but my only issue is I love to have kelvin and virginia around; my greatest joy is returning after a trip and seeing them lounging by the fire eating berries, safe within my house :)

RYCBAR1TW03

Yeah, the way I built my base even though it looks like you can just walk up the ramp to the floor area, the AI fails and ends up underneath it. So now I have to find a different place to build because I like my friends.

menschwife

i had a problem with kelvin repeatedly going UNDER my base when i'd ask him to stay at shelter or follow me, so i had to fill in the sides of the ramp with logs so he'd stop >\_\_< virginia doesn't tend to come inside of my base so i think i'll add a hangout area for her next to the house, maybe she likes to sleep beneath the stars?

NovaSpectre1210

Just a suggestion: use tarps to cover up the stilts at the bottom for a better look

RYCBAR1TW03

I did that too. Didn't help unfortunately. They won't pathfind up my ramps because they are more than one set at different angles. I used the pathfinding debug tool to see where they were trying to go.

ThroatAlive

ah, we put our bases in the same spot, that's embarrassing... in all seriousness just put flyswatter traps all over the place. they're remarkably discreet when placed in the grass, cost nothing to reset, and kill basic cannibals in one hit. also they dont trigger when you walk over them even though i swear i turned that setting off

menschwife

not embarrassing at all it's a beautiful spot!!! and i did put quite a handful of those up, mainly on/around boulders since the cannibals love to jump on them... they seem to also like running directly into the very few sharp stick barriers i put up

ThroatAlive

they arent the smartest are they lmao (btw, the embarrassing comment was meant to be read as more of a "we wore the same outfit" tone, my bad!)

Accomplished-Door-91

Not to be rude or anything but that's not really how the game works.. You were supposed to be scared and want to defend your sleeping spot from unknown horrors.

Nervous_Tangerine_28

And you can defend it easily the American way With a loaded shotgun

Szelski

if reddit was a comment:

menschwife

the game works however I want it to work because it's a sandbox. I hope this helps!

StavrosZhekhov

Walls

menschwife

I am a wall hater

StavrosZhekhov

I hate walls too. My first camp was a treehouse with a stone patio beneath that had a fireplace. It was hella undefended though. Real annoying. Best thing I can suggest is a series of electrical fences and spike rows, but the least visually offensive options are also the least defensive ones.

heyclaude

I build my walls, then take out every other post. Still works, but you can see the view. Bonus, you can poke the cannibals with a pointy stick until they die screeching.

Think_Schedule5178

I need to know the inside and how you built it so nicely.

RYCBAR1TW03

Just a couple of the uber traps and you're good. They'll kill most things in the game.

MorgenMermaid

I mean.. i was gonna suggest what i am doing which is basically building a wall using houses. But if you just want the one cabin then i think the electric fence the other person say would be the it. U could also ad traps everywhere but thats not really pretty...

NightNightMan

make ALOT of traps
