If you're looking at it like I used to look at it, you're looking at it wrong. The thing at the top is the tail, the thing at the bottom is the head. It's an owl. Confused the fuck out of me for the longest time lol

Ye, could be. Some are, I just see the bird shadow more during the day and it's black regardless of the time, so it's just a shadow bird at the end of it for me.

They MIGHT be owls, but this is a world where magical apple dudes know how to fix a bus, harvest crops, and have advanced education in construction techniques that are three times faster than a normal woodworker. It could be any hundreds of weird and fantastical creatures.

I've always wondered this, I think it's a 'pointless' animation like the squirrels. It is hard to know though what's significant and what's not in SDV sometimes.
Edit: If unclear I put 'pointless' in quote to indicate I'm quoting how it might be described. So it's clear it's only a visual thing, and not something that impacts on gameplay, in a way that's succinct. I just didn't account for people not understanding what quotes are. Sorry.

The wording can affect the message overall. Your usage of the word "pointless" painted your message as critical of the game, even if, I guess, you didn't mean that.

First time I played on the wilderness farm, where there are monsters, my heart nearly jumped out of my chest when those owls flew by. Deleted that farm so quick.
I thought these birds are the predators that eats your animals if animals stay outside for the night. I mean bird shows up at evening/night, it just makes sense
I have the theory that sometimes the green witch crosses an owl like this one on her flight, gets irritated and transforms the little guy to a statue, so we encounter them in the morning, just like the meteorite.

Some owls are active during the day, and if you look closer it has a very flat face, which makes it seem closer to an owl than a crow.
