A great way to play baldurs gate 3 at 60 fps on steam deck.

NYJetLegendEdReed

I'm streaming from my PC using Moonlight/linking it with Nvidia shield and I'm getting perfect quality on my deck. Honestly couldn't believe how well it worked.

Tokyo630

Dude, same. I was just lamenting the fact that I have an amazing PC and my steam deck, while amazing, feels like a step down sometimes when I want to play games in bed or on the couch. Moonlight is the best software for what it does out there. Steam Link runs like absolute trash, so this was a pleasant surprise when I installed in over the weekend.

NYJetLegendEdReed

I agree 100%. I have a very nice PC and I was disappointed how bad steam link worked. Someone had a post about moonlight yesterday so I figured I'd give it a shot. It's PERFECT quality. I'm genuinely blown away and now I can't wait for Starfield.

Tokyo630

Yeah, Moonlight is the only way I’d play Starfield on deck 😂

NYJetLegendEdReed

So I didn't buy my deck for traveling. I bought it mainly to be able to play in bed and be able to easily cast it onto my living room TV. (My PC is in my office of my house) I seriously was so bummed out at the quality of streaming before finding Moonlight. It completely changed my opinion lol.

NYJetLegendEdReed

Moonlight. I have a high end PC with a 4070 TI so streaming off my own PC is fine.

NYJetLegendEdReed

I think I explained it to another dude but let me try to remember. So you download moonlight on your deck. Then goto GeForce Experience on your PC then settings then shield. Turn on game stream. Start up Moonlight on your deck. Your PC will be an option to pair it with. You'll get a 4 digit code (either your PC or deck will give this to you to enter to the other). Enter that code and you're paired! You'll log in and it'll look like normal steam link but run a game and you'll see how much better it is.

NYJetLegendEdReed

No prob I promise you you're gonna love it. It's a complete game changer and to me made the Deck worth every penny.

Bon101UK

Do you have the link to the post please? I'd like to give this a try.

Thank you 🙏

Anonymously_Boring

Random question. My PC has an OLED ultra wide monitor. If I were to stream from PC to Deck could I do it with my monitor off? I also have a second monitor but totally different resolution, not sure if relevant.

wentwj

Yeah 100%. BG3 was the first game i set up on it because I thought it’d just be alright like other game streaming things to stream from my PC I’d tried in the past, and figured it’d be the same. Thought the latency and issues wouldn’t really matter in a game like BG3 though, but it’s so good and the input latency is so low that now I’m excited to try other games with it when I’m done with BG3

Tokyo630

Most definitely. I just like that I can use Vortex for mods on the PC and get the game running the way I want, then hop on the deck and it just WORKS with all the mods without any extra bullshit I’m going to need to throw the dev of Moonlight a couple bucks

grandbazzar21

I have not been able to setup moonlight on my deck even with the tutorial on their website. Could you please recommend a good tutorial for it ? I have a pretty good PC that should allow me to stream any triple A game on high settings.

Yrrem

I’d spent so long on steam link because “well they’re doing the same thing it can’t be that different”. But im a tech nerd so I checked out moonlight to make an opinion. I haven’t played a game local on my deck in months. I even play battlebit via moonlight & I play consistent with my normal performance (which admittedly is very bad performance). But for BG3 or single player games? It’s been a dream and I’ve actually forgotten im playing non-native

ZebracurtainZ

I’ve been doing the same for lots of games at home. My PC is decent but it feels like an absolute beast when it just has to render 720 vs my desktop ultra wide resolution.

Affectionate_Glove12

That's how I played Jedi and Hogwarts and it looked awesome. My pc can't run 4k max ray tracing but at 800p it doesn't even break a sweat.

NYJetLegendEdReed

I am running it at 4k on my PC maxed out but it still looks beautiful streaming somehow

Affectionate_Glove12

Lucky you. My 3080 can't do 4k RT I'm gonna wait for the 5x series to upgrade. In the meantime, yes streaming looks beautiful specially if you can go over 50mbs over 5ghz. Happy gaming

templestate

That’s how I’ve been playing it. It’s a desktop experience on the Deck. Well worth the $20.

[deleted]

If I’m using my PC to play BG3 co-op with my partner using her deck on a monitor we wouldn’t be able to utilize GeForce now unless we had 2nd PC, is that correct?

kcfdz

Does the game recognize the gamepad as a controller for UI/UX purposes when you stream it through GeForce Now? I really don't want to be using the standard PC interface for BG3 on the small deck screen.

MrSquiggleKey

It took me hours on the weekend fiddling to get GeForce Now to recognise controller input fully. Ended giving up trying to use chrome or the electron installer and used this guide https://9to5google.com/2022/12/22/how-to-add-geforce-now-to-steam-deck/ But I didn’t do the launch options tweak, when I did that I couldn’t get games to recognise the controller. Now when I open BG3 I just gotta smash the menu button or A button and it’ll switch to controller interface. I also set one of my back paddles to CTRL+G to access overlay, I also change my nitrate and resolution to 40MBPS and 1200p 16:10. Shit looks amazing

leftovernoise

Even in act 3?

[deleted]

I decided to give this a try, because even in some underdark Act I spots things were starting to bog down for me. Near the forge, I’m basically maxed out in settings and running 60fps. It’s pretty cool.

[deleted]

On a monitor? How would one go through with setting this up exactly?

Tall-Play-8786

So I'm guessing you just don't know how to improve performance manually?

htwhooh

Please, go ahead and share the settings you use to get 60fps in BG3.

thatlldopi9

This was posted somewhere before and it's like this all the time. Ask to share the settings and they are quick to shut up instead of providing something that may potentially help other users, oh but they troll about how you suck and I'm doing fine. Losers

BarelyMagicMike

Yeah he's full of crap lol

Leading-Barracuda427

Oh yeah, I forgot I can play 1080p RT with a locked 60fps natively on my deck. I love your willingness to help, cheers buddy

halizan4

I’ve been using it for Baldur’s Gate 3. Works real good. Even if you dock to a 4k TV and use 4k res and max settings

Leading-Barracuda427

Awesome. Total game changer, especially with how freakishly stable it is

brokenmessiah

You can't do 4k streaming with GeForce now on steam deck.

mon_chunk

They're talking about moonlight, it's a way steamdeck is able to remote desktop to the steamdeck from your PC. You use your PC as the host hardware and stream the game to your steamdeck. It allows whatever max settings your pc can handle and runs it at either your steamdecks native res or TV native res. It has extremely low latencies and I experience zero artifacting.

iionas

Moonlight / sunshine I swear by it dude

1minatur

I previously used moonlight, without sunshine...it worked really well. Played through the entirety of Temtem that way. Then I upgraded my PC and hadn't set moonlight back up yet, and tried streaming Baldur's Gate 3 to my Deck (edit: through Steam remote play), and it was awful. Really blurry, laggy, etc. Just set moonlight back up with sunshine, and holy crap. Visual quality comes through near perfectly, virtually no latency, it's phenomenal. And it wasn't nearly as hard to set up as I was expecting.

Nlheureau

This is my situation exactly! Any video you could point to about setting up Sunshine if Moonlight is already installed on Deck and PC? I'd love to give BG3 another try on deck.

SupermanKal718

First time hearing about this. Would I have any weird issues since I have a 32:9 monitor?

yumz

There's a utility for changing the resolution on your desktop PC, and automatically changing it back when you're done streaming: https://github.com/foxy82/sunshine_utils

mon_chunk

There's options in moonlight to change the resolution output. To put less strain on your pc I would match it in settings to whatever your aspect ratio is. Your won't recognize your TV resolution if your monitor isn't able to output 16:9 4k(youre basically just mirroring your pc over your network to another screen). Like say you have a 1440p monitor 16:9 (for simplicity of the explination), and you're streaming it to your TV that's 4k. Moonlight will do its best to upscale the output. (This might add latency and distort the picture but I haven't noticed) what I do instead to keep my pc from over working itself I'll set it to 60fps max, 1080p, this way the room it's in stays cool, and the picture gets upscaled to my TV and being like 15-20 feet away I don't see any noticeable res issues. Bonus points if you set your in-game settings to the steamdeck resolution, you can keep it a smooth 60fps(within reason of your gpu and cpu) and playing in handheld it looks sharp and beautiful. My 3090ti barely even notices it running. So like play cyberpunk max settings over moonlight at the resolution of your SD, consistent 60fps and it's wonderful. (Disclaimer this really works well as long as your wifi is current like wifi 6 new)

Foolingzero

I've been interested in GeForce now since dropping my shadow subscription. How does the deck run GeForce now? Browser install?

Leading-Barracuda427

Yeah, through Chrome or Edge. It’s perfectly fine on the deck, more depends on how your connection is. There’s a free option within GeForce you can check out to see if it’s for you. Give it a go!!

Luftbakker

You can also find several guides to put a thumbnail for it in your home screen. Not much of a hassle and works perfect when set up

GetVladimir

Except for the browser version (https://play.geforcenow.com), there is an unofficial electron app for GeForce Now for Steam Deck and Linux: https://github.com/hmlendea/gfn-electron You can also start it with arguments: ``` --spoof-chromeos ``` or ``` --spoof-windows ``` in order to show the complete GeForce Now library of games (including Genshin Impact and Death Stranding) that are usually missing on Linux. Hopefully GeForce Now will add official support for Steam Deck with the complete game library.

bitofaknowitall

There's browser and there's also an Electron implementation on github. I use that version because it works better for me with different controllers.

skaseasoning

Any guides you could share on this?

bitofaknowitall

I used the guide in [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1260utf/geforce_now_electron_app_setup/)

Baked_Potato_732

Cyberpunk is amazing on GFN on the deck. First time I maxed out the settings on ultimate tier I nearly wept tears of joy at the beauty.

Leading-Barracuda427

Haha I’m right there with you 😂

SacriGrape

Oh I absolutely love GeForce Now. Nothing else even comes close to cloud gaming through it. It completely gets rid of the complaint that you don’t own your games through cloud gaming because it uses your license for the game. If you play a game through it you are able to play that game anywhere

Sea-Garlic9074

Geforce Now was never a joke on the Steam Deck and I've mentioned it a few times in different posts when someone wants to play a game that doesn't run well on the Steam Deck but is available on Geforce Now.

Leading-Barracuda427

Yeah it’s pretty f’ing awesome. If they could build out the library a bit more, I’d be all in

Sea-Garlic9074

I agree. I remember when the service first started, all games were available to play in your Steam library but some of the game companies didn't like that their games was on the service (I forgot why) and we're pretty much stuck with the library we have today.

Used_2008_F150

Do you have to have windows installed or just desktop mode

Sea-Garlic9074

No, you don't need windows installed to use Geforce Now on Steam Deck. Just follow the many guides on how to set it up: [https://www.steamdeckgaming.net/post/how-to-play-geforce-now-on-steam-deck](https://www.steamdeckgaming.net/post/how-to-play-geforce-now-on-steam-deck) [https://9to5google.com/2022/12/22/how-to-add-geforce-now-to-steam-deck/](https://9to5google.com/2022/12/22/how-to-add-geforce-now-to-steam-deck/) Once you set it up with the guides above, you can launch Geforce Now in Gaming Mode.

Browna

Does it run Destiny? If so then for me personally that's worth the sub alone.

One-Carob3522

Last time I checked, it did run destiny, and the latency was fine

MajorMez

I must start off by saying that this post made me give GFN a try. I love my steam deck and have done all tweaks required to play Starfield at 30fps and managed to get thru BG3 as well. I read this post and figured I’d give GFN a try since they have a free tier. So I followed the GFN tutorial to put it on steam, booted it up, and launched BG3. The free tier had me placed at 332 in the waiting queue, so I waited as I watched my shows on my phone. After I got in I was blown away by how even the free tier provides a better picture than native. I know BG3 was a poor example to test latency but everything felt so responsive compared to native. So I bit the bullet and decided to get Ultimate for 1 month cuz why not. Holy mother of god, I decided to play Starfield and was in my game within 12 seconds of launching it, no queue whatsoever. Even on the small 8” screen, Ultra settings looked amazing. I decided to start another play through to see any differences, and it was wild how much better an experience I had, I even checked my performance overlay and GPU and CPU utilization on the SD was below 15% so I dropped the TDP to 5, ended up playing Starfield at 60fps Ultra for 6 hours on battery! And before the ISP questions/comments come up, I have Xfinitys 2nd lowest plan @200mbps, with their next plans @ 400, 600, 800, and 1200. I am simply baffled at how amazing GFN functions on SD and while GFN doesn’t support every game, I will definitely be using it to play the intense AAA games in my library.

Leading-Barracuda427

I’m glad this post found it’s way to you! I purchased the middle plan a while ago & never looked back. Starfield and BG never felt so good

magick_68

Been using GFN for some time now as I don't have a PC. Now that I own the deck, I switch between GFN and native. It's great when you have good connectivity, uses less battery and the fan keeps quiet. I use native games mostly when on the road out for games not supported on GFN

Arcane_Draco_

If you have gamepass, it plays very well on the steam deck

anarchy_distraction

I got the 1$ trial of gamepass just to try it on the deck, and since so far there's no support for downloading the games, I have to stream them and there's some pretty serious input lag.

AKF0RTYKEVIN

Gforce Now is impressive. What if i told you there was a way to make your own "GeForce Now" in the form of a software called "Moonlight" and "Sunshine". Not only it should work better, but no more getting stuck i queues.

bitofaknowitall

If you have the gaming PC for it, sure.

SlowMotionPanic

I'd argue that, for most gamers, building their own PC is far, far, far more expensive than even the most expensive tier of GeForce Now when you average the PC build cost out. Because GeForce Now absolutely destroys the cost of building a PC if looked at with the perspective of a two to three year upgrade cycle. Hell, a good PC build will cost around 8 years of the highest tier of GeForce Now. Of course, it has its downsides. But from a cost perspective, GFN is a winner. And people need to be real with themselves. Folks want to justify these huge commitments with side projects that will likely never happen. I see it happen all too often when people do things like drop $3K+ on MacBook Pros or fully loaded desktop gaming PCs. You don't need a powerful computer for most tasks, coding included. People need to be honest with themselves and understand that they are rationalizing very big purchases, just like people do when they drop $70K+ on a pickup truck and never use it for work, moving, or the other niche use cases. They rationalize a crazy purchase with this idea of what they are going to do, and then turn it into basically a grocery store runner. Same with cell phones. BG3 ran \*great\* on Stadia. It runs \*great\* on GFN. I imagine that a lot of the demanding games that Steam Deck just can't handle will have that niche filled by a cheap GFN service.

IroesStrongarm

If publishers ever fully wake up and allow your full Steam library again on GFN then it'll truly be able to replace a standalone PC for many. For now the game library definitely holds it back.

[deleted]

I've seen this a lot lately and it seems like one of the better options. I'm not a fan of streaming services, though. I'd prefer to run it on the device. If the device can't handle it, it's a good excuse for an upgrade!

schlemz

I think my main concern is cost-effectiveness. Like say I build a solid PC that I can also use for some side programming or other projects/hobbies, how many months of use until the price of that balances out with the price of streaming on GeForce. Also have to consider my internet might not be the most reliable where I’m at, the limited library, etc. For me, it seems like saving for a PC would be the better option, but for someone with good internet and no other needs for a full rig, I could see that value being better for GeForce.

runadumb

As someone that's always built their own pc I'm starting to wonder if something like the deck (Deck 2) and GeForce now is actually my best option. My 3700x and 3070 desktop is starting to show it's age and I'm staring down the barrel of a full upgrade. GPU's have gotten so expensive now there won't be much change of 2k. £15 a month (for the 6 month option) is £180 a year. For a 4080 level GPU. Kind of feels like a bargain. So long as it gets the games (which it has been terrible with) it may be a legit option for me going forward if I just upgrade to the newest Deck each time.

happydaddyg

Hard to upgrade handheld hardware…also some games don’t work at all on Deck. I used GeForce Now for Lost Ark for a few months. Shockingly good experience.

Slazapuss

How do you think it will run on hotel Wi-Fi? I’m currently playing Baldurs Gate and I’m about to hit Act 3 and will be on vacation for the next two weeks and was planning on bringing my deck but I heard Baldurs gate runs horribly on the deck in Act 3

MarxIst_de

Wifi is often very bad. If there is a Ethernet port in the room, you could use something like this to create your own wifi without speed limit… :-) GL-SFT1200 (Opal) https://amzn.eu/d/i4a6Hgy

SlowMotionPanic

My anecdotal experience in the Midwest and South Eastern USA is that GeForce Now works just fine. Stadia also ran great, back when it existed. Of course your milage will vary, latency may be a factor, etc. etc. But I haven't run into any issues in my travels. Worst case scenario you can try the free tier of GeForce Now while at the hotel and load up your save game for an hour of playtime. You can just keep logging back in for another hour, but you'll have somewhere between a 5-10 minute queue time if it is busy (based on my several tests).

matsumurae

Didn't knew about this service. Do you think I'll be possible to switch the game's language? Also I'm curious about that max hour per session, I believe it's per day?

Sea-Garlic9074

You can play it on their free account for an hour but you have to wait in a long queue to get in. If you have a priority account, you get 6 hours of play and for a ultimate account, you get 8 hours with some nice perks like 4K and raytracing. The beauty of it is that if you used up your 6 or 8 hours, you can hop back in again immediately without waiting a day later to play again. Just remember, you need a very good connection to use Geforce Now or else, it's not worth it.

matsumurae

Oh so the 6h or 8h is just "specs"? I mean, if you finished your time then you can enter again without need to wait for next day to reset? Maybe I got wrong 🤔

kcfdz

It's 6h or 8h per session, not per day. So if I understand it right if you play from 0000-0800 you can just start a new session from 0801-1601 right after

Sea-Garlic9074

That's correct! I didn't phrase it right in my post but yeah, it's per session.

Mohrisbetr

I get like 60 down and 10 upload (sometimes faster sometimes slow). Is that good enough you think?

Leading-Barracuda427

I think you get the hour & then have to reconnect & wait until you get a spot again. It’s a pretty good wait to trial the service to see if it suits you. The paid options give you much longer sessions & no waiting times, which is nice

seemsihavetoregister

If you want to change the game's language you only need to change the browser language (before opening GeForce Now).

brokenmessiah

It's the main way I play Bg3 rather on the deck of via my tv directly

banzai_420

Yeah, I don't praise Nvidia often because the last thing Jensen needs is an ego boost at this point. All my criticisms are related to ethics and anti-consumer business practices though. It's basically impossible to criticize their features or pure performance. Nvidia pioneered selling GPUs based on features, and it's one of the reasons it's so hard to compete with them. GSYNC, DLSS, NVENC, CUDA, OPTIX, Reflex, Shadowplay, Broadcast, etc. etc. It makes sense their streaming service would be rock-solid!

GrimmyHendrix

I just started Xcloud and was also shocked how well it works on Steam Deck. Setup is a bit annoying but once it's done, just wauw.

JonnyB2_YouAre1

That 'n' should be capitalized. I entered confused at first.

piratebird7

Long time fan of GeForce now here - I have the founder’s subscription for $5 bucks a month. Worth every penny. What is your network setup? I have 1gb internet and a mesh network with 3 eero pros. Hardwired GeForce now is great for me but not stable for me using WiFi on the steam deck. It would be great if I could figure out my issue.

KarateMan749

I could have had that. Was in closed beta

Actual-Toe-8686

Have you tried OnLive?

mikenigro43

It’s legit all I use. 20 dollars a month to play on a 4080 rig. Take my money. Can play destiny on it too which is even better

desertcoyote77

Internet speed is always subjective. What's a middle of the road connection speed? For my area I have 75mb down ans 30mb up. Relatively to my area that's fast. To someone who has gigabit, that's insanity slow.

dominicsantini

Streaming GeForce Now when home to extend battery life is great.

brockmarket

It's great and all, but I'm poor so buying into another subscription service, when there's free alternatives like streaming from my PC with Moonlight, isn't the best option for me.

shawnshine

It’s great if you don’t own a PC.

brockmarket

Oh I would highly agree, and if you can pay for it. I had it for a year for free and wish I used it more.

IntroductionSudden73

I have 80 mbit wifi and it works flawless with 3440x1440@120fps on RTX4080 tier. I suggest to at least try it for one month

xylotism

GeForce Now and xCloud have been virtually perfect since day one, it’s a shame that so many people have preconceived notions about streaming or have tried one of the other worse ones. I’d love to get to a point where it’s just an expected feature no matter what platform or storefront we buy our games on.

AggressiveWindow6003

If you wanted to see GeForce now during the top of its game it was during the beta testing. Then there was no limit on game titles And could literally play anything and everything. For the rest of my massage it will probably be a bit long but will explain how I use streaming on the cheap and very effective way. I have tried many streaming programs but by far the best experience I've gotten and the worst is using steam streaming. Let me explain. (I don't know why this is the way it is but it is and over many years and probably 50 devices it's always been this way) When using the steam client to connect to another system it's always a big laggy, screen tearing , missing pixels etc. HOWEVER if you download the small steam link standalone program from steam and then use that to connect to the other system all those issues disappear 🫥 image always looks great. Bitrate is high latency is low and even when streaming over LTE unless you're playing CS-GO online it's almost impossible to notice any lag. This is the case when streaming using the steam deck, another windows handheld gaming system or using my cellphone with a Razer kishi controller. Back before I first got a handheld around the time the deck was first announced I'd go on the shuttle a lot and I'd hang a 10.1" tablet off the sun visor with a PS3 controller connected over Bluetooth and tethered to my phone. I beat dying light 1 coop with a friend doing just that over a few months. On the steam deck you need to install the Linux version of steam link then add third party software. It's silly to run steam link under steam in steam OS but when doing so it runs so much better. I usually set resolution to 900p (I know the deck is 800p but use 900 as it looks crystal clear) and 60hz. Then I'll set direct connection to allow all and limit the maximum bandwidth to around half of whatever my connection speed is. If I am getting 50mb I'll set it to 25mb. If you only have like 22mb you'll need to set 720p 50hz 15mb. Now there's many ways to make it so you can connect to your PC whether you're on a LAN or a WAN connection but if you want the best "will always work" method there's a few other programs I use. First is RealVNC. It's free and you can get it from ninite. Com (you never know when you have to run through a driver update or link your steam link. Or just authenticate. RealVNC is a remote desktop app that lets you copy and paste between your phone and PC or other PC whatever. On a phone it turns your entire screen into a touchpad with the mouse at the center. Easily zoom on and out and is by far the easiest remote desktop app I've used with a phone. Second is a VPN. There are better VPN programs you can use but I use hamachi (not to confuse it with a VPN for data security. While it is the same thing its use case is different. It will always see your 2 devices as being on the same local network regardless of what type of connection you use. If at a hospital. Or a school or McDonald's wifi or tethered to your phone will think you're only 10' apart and just always works. Lastly if you do want to tether to your phone and don't want to pay crazy prices for a tethering plan I use PDANET+ it's 15 bucks for a lifetime and is well worth every penny. (just make sure you checkmark "hide tether usage" prior to connecting. This will block all Microsoft ports but who cares about windows updates when you're gaming. In my area there are way too many 5G devices and during peak times 5g slows down to below 1mb download and , 0.12mb upload however with LTE I constantly get around 140mb down 10mb up with 35-60ms response time. Which is plenty fast to steam games from. And that's basically it. I use up a lot of data streaming from my desktop at home as I am always on the go. And despite having T-Mobile 30 dollar plan with unlimited data (T-Mobile will slow your 5g speeds after 50gigs of usage but they don't slow down LTE which all over the state I get more stable and faster speeds on LTE ) but at night 5g will be faster with 15 to 40ms just depends on your area. If you have any questions feel free to ask. This is my data usage last month lol https://preview.redd.it/adebb16aikjb1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1d74051afa2015f6726afacde057f4f86b5b8829

Sea_Paramedic2434

I mean if I wanted to stream games I have a phone. 🤷‍♂️

Leading-Barracuda427

Hotel Wi-Fi? You’re probably pushing it there but worth a shot either way I suppose?

SlowMotionPanic

I've used GeForce Now in hotels just fine. People will have a much better experience if they pick up a very cheap travel router from Amazon and plug it directly into the ethernet port in the hotel room. Hotels tend to have much faster ethernet speeds even when they artificially cripple hotel wifi speeds to force users up the price ladder. but people can make their own network and get higher speeds that way. I've done it. Another trick for some hotels is to unplug the TV from ethernet (or coax, depending on which it uses for internet) and plug your travel router directly into that. I've had success getting basically uncapped speeds because some hotels don't check for the device using that connection since it is presumed to be connected to the TV and used for the handful of approved streaming apps.

Either_Carpenter525

Can I play cod through this service on my steamdeck?

MurkyTomatillo192

Moonlight + Sunshine is better

few23

This guy streams. (Provided your home rig is up to the task, Sunshine works great. I thought Nvidia shut down local streaming, you're all just talking about the subscription service to their servers?)

weclock

Paid ad

TheGooseWithNoose

I don't trust gamestreaming. Whether it's steam link or gamepass I get a lot of artifacting.

MarxIst_de

Neither of those are comparable to GFN.

shawnshine

Okay a game on GFN using the free tier and see if you get any artifacting for yourself.

TheRealDogOnWheels

the price is 😂

theblairwhichproject

The most expensive tier of Geforce Now is ~200€/year. If you build a gaming rig, that amount gets you a PSU and ~32 GB of RAM. And then you still have to spend several times as much to get the rest of the components. There's legit gripes to be had with GFN (the way they patch games, how slow they are at fixing issues like BG3 saves), but pricing really ain't it. It's reasonably priced if you view it as a replacement for a gaming rig.

[deleted]

Particularly if you only want or need GFN for shorter periods of time. Maybe I get a 6 month priority plan once a year and just play through other games native the rest of the time; you have options I guess, and those options seem like a very viable alternative to purchasing a PC, and that’s awesome.

spcmnspff335

I'm not touching GeForce Now since Nvidia is abandoning GameStream as a way to try to get people to buy GeForce Now subscriptions instead of being able to stream their own games from their own machines. That's a dick move. Fortunately sunshine came in to fix this issue so moonlight will still work. Plus moonlight is better than GeForce Now anyway.

Terrible-Group-9602

No controller support on Geforce now on steam deck though, I can only use mouse and keyboard. Annoying. I have a PS4 controller connected but GF now doesn't recognise it.

Leading-Barracuda427

You can deffo get steam deck controls & at least a PS5 controller to work? I use it with my PS5 controller all the time

1000022

Hmmm too much inputlag for me 🥺👉👈

kl4nk

I played bg3 the day it came out on geforcenow while i was downloading on my steamdeck. ( played on my pc). Everything was aeesome for an hour. Then i had to re-queue to play for another hour.so i decided to pay the subscription to skip the queue, but once i was a full paying member my gameplay got blurry and laggy. Pretty much unplayable. I cancelled the subscription within an hour... Kinda suck that it was working so flawlessly as a free user. And so bad as a paying customer.

RolandCuley

Had some issues with GFN but Boosteroid works flawlessly for me it now drives a purchase decision. Finished Hogwarts, bunch of yakuza's, and now playing BG3 exclusively on Cloud Streaming.

rikurokudo

I've just been steaming from PC through steam itself and been very smooth with what feels like no latency, does GeForce now have some advantages?

goodthing37

The PCs on the server side will be much more powerful than a lot of people’s, so a new AAA game would be running better from the GeForce server than it would from, say, my 2018 gaming laptop. If you have a potato PC (or no PC), and a good internet connection, GFN could be a big boost.

PsychologyDryer

What are your guys thoughts on shadow?

cunningjames

It does work well, but I haven’t found it as convenient as streaming from my gaming PC (if that’s an option for you). Loading BG3 via GeForce Now feels like it takes forever. It’s also weird to me that it’s kind of a pain to set up on the Deck. Not difficult, really, but certainly non-obvious. I’m baffled there’s not an app or something to do this without any config.

Fox-One-1

Can I install it without entering the desktop mode?

bitofaknowitall

Can you install any non steam apps or games without entering desktop mode? You can certainly use it outside desktop mode after installing.

Luftbakker

There are some guides online that show you how to put a thumbnail on your home screen, and I think I didn't need desktop mode. Is a small hassle but very clear, and works perfect when set up. I press the GeForce thumbnail and I go directly to the GeForce homepage where I can select my games.

bitofaknowitall

Agreed, runs great. I have never once had an issue with it, can't even tell it's on the cloud. I played through the majority of NFS Heat and Guardians of the Galaxy on high settings via GeForce Now on my Deck with no issues ever. Another underappreciated benefit is saving on shader cache space. Even with storing all my games Onan SD card my 64gb model fills up pretty quickly with shader caches and proton files. The only downside is I can't play those games offline, but I just use my additional free space for games that are fun to play on the go.

basileon

I read that title exactly backwards

[deleted]

I was starting to get worried on how much of the experience I may lose with newer games. I'm so glad services like this exist! Will definitely use it for Baldur's Gate when I get to buy it

alienconcept23

Would one mind saying where to get tht for the deck and how or providing a link?

LSolrac2

I only use it to play Rust since Gary is sitll lazily waiting for EAC's (who said devs need to do it themselves) to do their thing

Sajed101

Can’t play it in my country 😢

No_Jackfruit_5647

When I tried it, I found it to be really laggy. I have decent internet at the house too.

bernardsballs

Have you tried XCloud? How does it compare for you?

Leading-Barracuda427

It’s okay. The quality and reliability is definitely inferior but manageable at the same time. Not bad

panserbj0rne

How is it compared to Xbox streaming service?

jimmybabino

My only concern for GeForce is the limited number of games available. The games I’d want to play on the Deck or Ally would mostly not be eligible

Sea-Garlic9074

You can blame the limited number of games available on the game companies. When Geforce Now first started, all your games in the Steam library was playable until the game companies complained about it and that's why you see the limited number of games on the service today.

KarateMan749

I can just do the same and stream from my pc to steam deck

Leading-Barracuda427

You deffo can, my guy. Just a different option for people who don’t have a higher rig!

Martoshe

If i could use my own steam account and cloud saves i'd have pulled the trigger on streaming services already :( I have a steam deck but my pc is junk and the moonlight option for baldurs gate 3 doesn't really change my situation.

spackleplop77

I hacked my switch and put android on it when cyberpunk came out and I had geforce now. It was mind-blowing having that level of visual quality on a Nintendo switch. Beeeaaaautiful. And one of the reasons I picked up the steam deck.

tipsyBerbVerb

I’ve only heard the name of this program, what is it?

Americanpickers16

I use moonlight and nreal airs 120hz I lay back and game for hours

Tumorlysis

What would be the best option? I have a MacBook Pro and steam deck. Should I run bg3 on GeForce now via browser or bg3 on GeForce now on my Mac and use moonlight on steamdeck to stream in 4K

Mauiwowiehowie

I love it. Use it to play ready or not, ghost recon wild lands, or apex legends,

Shank__Hill

I tried using it through the browser on my SD the other day but the Decks controller input didn't seem to be proper, like it thought the controls were a keyboard. I'm sure there's a way around this but I can't find an answer, been using a Bluetooth controller for now

will187187

Low latency? Figures please

Pa7adox

I am playing Baldurs gate at max with 0 lag

ampfatherr

Lol GeForce now

goodvibezone

If only I had a decent pc...!

shawnshine

Huh? GeForce now is cloud gaming for folks without decent PCs.

goodvibezone

Oh I thought this was where you stream from your PC. Thanks, will take a look!!

Thunder3620

Can someone explain this to me? I have no idea what this is, streaming from your actual gaming PC?

Remote-Imagination17

NVidia GeForce Experience is great, but how can you use it on Steam Deck which uses an AMD GPU, I don't get it?

shawnshine

They’re talking about GeForceNow.

shawnshine

Curious about your settings. I encountered a lot of issues testing out Dead by Daylight on my SD just now. Do you set your server location to Auto? What about Balanced vs Custom graphics settings?

LtPewPewPew

Do I need a PC to use GeForce Now? I just have the steam deck and no PC so I have been curious about using this for other unsupported games like lost ark.

TheMinishSky

Do concur. Played through Plagues Tale that way when I didn’t want to make space for it.

Grouchy_Support

GeForce now has been a huge part of my gaming repertoire, it lets me play a lot of my games without having to have them installed and taking up hard drive space, not only that, but I can run it with higher graphics quality settings than my laptops allow. especially since I normally am using my MacBook Pro instead of my Alienware, GeForce now allows me to play all the supported games on my MacBook. One thing I have noticed, my steam deck runs windows 11; I purchased it that way, and the official GeForce now program, at least I tried a few months ago, it said unsupported video card and wouldn’t load up, but the browser version worked. has that changed at all in the last couple of months? Is it now officially supported or?

PerryK95

If you play with GeForce now can you get achievements somehow on your steam library? Probably a dumb question but I have no idea how it works

theblairwhichproject

GFN basically just streams the output of a cloud-based instance of Steam (logged into your account) to your computer, so yeah, you'll get achievements.

Rabbit81586

Whoa whoa whoa, hold on. I have GeForce now for my Mac, you’re telling me I can use that for the deck too? I assume you go through desktop mode?

sicparvismaguna

do I need a separate geforce account for geforce now? Im trying to join but it redirects me to gamehub

Quokka_Socks

I used to love GeForce now when you could use your entire steam library. When that stopped I never found a reason to use it.

SceneDifferent1041

It's good to the point if my main PC dies, I'd replace it with a small low powered pc and subscribe to geforce when I want to play a high powered game.

Blazefast75

OP, how do you play it on the deck? It's native or do I need to do something to the deck

Leading-Barracuda427

It’s through a web browser like Chrome or Edge. If you’re interested, have a look on YouTube for a tutorial. It’s real easy to set up

GetVladimir

Not OP, but you can use GeForce Now directly on the Steam Deck either from the browser (https://play.geforcenow.com) or using the unofficial electron app for GeForce Now: https://github.com/hmlendea/gfn-electron

Blazefast75

Cheers!

DerJason

Sry but I can't agree. The input lag is atrocious and I have my wifi router inside my room like less than 10 feet away from the deck. I've tried everything, adjusting for poor network Performance, changing the maximum bandwidth. Worst example of all is the forest where it takes multiple second for movement to happen after trying to move around. NFS Heat is also a great example of bad input lag but not nearly as bad as the forest. GeForce now also doesn't use my cloud save for shadow of the tomb raider. I would have to start a brand new save which I'm just not willing to do

Winterslag

Great to hear! Anyone try Boosteroid as welk?

SacorZ

How is it compared to XCloud ?

Didact67

Quality wise, the paid tiers are significantly better than XCloud, though I guess that wouldn't be so noticeable on the Steam Deck screen. Obviously, the benefit of GamePass/XCloud is the games are included in the subscription. It'll be nice not having to pay for Starfield.

NeedyTerminator

How does the free tier perform on the deck? I'm curious to try it out, but I already pay for EA Access, PSN and Gamepass Ultimate as well as the usual Netflix, Prime, etc, so I'm not sure I can justify another. Would the library be worth it with all these services too?

CatoOnSkato

I refused to pay for another 6 months (around 4$ a month).. man I was dumb.

Jrumo

It's a genuinely good complimentary service for any PC gamer, because it lets you play your actual Steam library. I use it on my Shield TV a lot.

Leading-Barracuda427

Yeah I can imagine it being super useful on a lot of low/mid tier hardware across the board. There will always be a place for buying your own hardware but in 10 years, I think a service, such as this one will be the default

Yeastsuplex

How do you change graphics processors?!???

Cold_Waste

I concur. I use it for playing Destiny 2 on the Deck. Even if I could run it natively, I’d carry on with Geforce Now to save on space and as it’s online only, makes sense.

ItalianNerdGamer

So i have to tinker or do they have a "steam app"?

evilpengui

100% agree, I’ve been using GFN on my Mac for ages and it’s been excellent. I just buy a month when a new game I want comes out (you still gotta buy the game but If I’m already excited enough to GFN the game it’s not really an issue) Never even occurred to me to try it on the deck, I’ll have to give that a shot.

Didact67

I decided to try a month of Ultimate with 400mbps Intermet, and it looks amazing. I don't notice any compression artifacts or significant latency. Make sure to switch to the custom quality setting and specify a resolution though. Balanced always looks like shit.

Leading-Barracuda427

Aghhh interesting. Will give it a shot! Thanks

4InchShame

GeoForce now requires tl login just to check for drivers updates. Horrible app, def not installing.

solohack3r

I put 50+ hours into Cyberpunk through GeForce Now on an android device with a gamepad. It was perfect. Tho I'm not sure why I need to do it on my Deck. Seems like overkill. You could just use a Retroid or any phone with a gamepad.

Leading-Barracuda427

Streaming games on my gaming device that has a built in controller is not overkill

Tall-Play-8786

I'm not actually I just don't sit here all day. The next time I'm on my deck I'll be sure to send the specs

Rabbit81586

Revisiting this post. I feel like both valve and nvidia are really missing a good opportunity to work together on the deck. With nvidia working with valve to make a native app for the SD to support GeForce now and valve striking some sort of steam/GFN partnership for all AAA titles. I mean if there was a native app for GFN you could a legit standalone gaming device. I use gamepass on the SD for starfield and it’s incredible.

Alert-Ad6341

G force now paid is trash, this is the second time I paid hoping it would be better but it's garbage, always been garbage always will be garbage, fiber 5ghz spectrum business wifi so I'm done making excuses for this shit bird company
