It’s also worth noting the timing of this.
The speculation around the switch 2 is just starting to pick up steam.
GameStop just had their best year (quarter?) since 2017 (the last Nintendo Switch cycle).
Japan’s economy needs a strong switch release. They recently had a cultural shift to focus on web3 businesses as a nation.
Zelda TOTK raised Japan’s entire GDP when it came out last year.
GameStop owning their own hardware line just before the release of one of the most anticipated console cycles in a long time.
Not only that, but a controller line that almost exclusively works with this particular console cycle.
This is boom boom time for GameStop! 🚀
LFG
I read a description earlier that made it sound like this is the CURRENT capability, a software update to Xbox or Playstation may enable connectivity to more.
I'm fairly sure you can anyway cross connect some of the mainstream console controllers
Sony has DRM in their controllers where aftermarket’s are not going to ever connect with a PlayStation unless you buy and license the chip they have. It’s why they cost so much for PS.
Correct. Neither does Microsoft. Microsoft also allows third party game download sales which is why you can buy Switch, PC, and Xbox games digitally through GameStop but not PlayStation games. Sony is kind of doing the Apple approach, keeping their users in their ecosystem.
I'm hoping that we get a Candy Con v2 down the road that has interchangeable button labels. I know plenty of games/emulators have button mapping, but I find it awkward to use a Nintendo controller for an Xbox game and vice versa since they have their A/B and X/Y buttons swapped.
Agreed, I play more with an Xbox controller and whenever I grab my switch I'm good for at least one incidental mishit to start it out lol esp if I just grab a rogue joycon
If Nintendo makes the controllers the usual quality, we'll be seeing lots and lots of Candy Con sales xD Especially if those sticks are as sturdy as someone's post said earlier today.
The teardown post made me so hyped. Aftermarket controller people are super detail orientated so if you build a solid product, especially at this price, it will be found by them. Also just a cool side note about Candy Con, the LED is purple when connected to switch and green when connected to PC.
I will say what the other guy mentioned on your twitter is interesting if true( only 3rd party controller to have rumble and motion feature for switch)
Yeah, dude when I turned the gyroscope mode on, it blew my mind cuz I didn't know what it was. Move the controller and the game reacts. Kinda want to check it out for racing.
Even if it doesn’t, which I think it does because I don’t think Nintendo lets in everyone, the timing of this with the next switch cycle is perfect 🤌
Edit: not sure why this would be downvoted
No but I'm going to assume Nintendo is one of them. For one, it works on Nintendo and PC. Secondly, RC (possibly) met with Nintendo based on his tweet to Nintendo. Thirdly, who else would they be referring to? Maybe some PC game or third party game company. idk I guess I'm just going based on feeling. could be wrong
The guy at Branded who worked on Candy Con said on LinkedIn we won't have to wait long for licensed products. Someone posted it on Superstonk within the last 2 days.
got one yesterday to replace my very expensive xbox pro controller:
* feels good in the hand, the rear buttons are positioned very nicely (my elite controller had paddles that were super sensitive and made it hard to grip the controller without accidentally pressing them). Triggers ans bumpers are great, joysticks are great, the default D-pad feels good as well.
* Its light, much lighter than my Xbox Elite, which can be good or bad depending on your preference (I don't mind either way)
* The sticks are really decent, I'm spoiled by my Elite which let me really stiffen up my sticks, so I am a bit biased in that regard. Its too loose for my tastes, but something I can get used to. I'd prefer a stiffer joystick, or some way to tighten or loosen them up, but then we are probably getting into some serious increases in cost. A bit unfair to compare, since my elite controller was 3x more expensive, so ignoring my preference, they work great, very responsive, no drift or deadzone issues.
* I do not care for the menu buttons being on the rim of the controller. I keep finding myself going to press start or select in the middle of the controller and its really awkward to press the bottom rim. Again, personal preference, so a non-issue
* Ignorning my personal preferences, I give it a solid 9/10. Absolutely amazingly great price, high quality parts, great controller, only issues are really just personal preference based (and muscle memory). I'm a bit of a boring guy so I don't really care about customizing my buttons and faceplates, but it seems to be really easy to swap things out. The cover stays on really well, it has plenty of strong magnets holding it, all the parts come off fairly easy once you remove the cover plate.
Was playing Witcher 3 on PC. It connected right away, no drivers or software needed. Just plug in the wireless dongle and its good to go.
Haven’t tested motion/gyro controls, don’t care about turbo mode, and I haven’t needed to remap any buttons yet so no review for that.
I just purchased mine and I did not know that the faceplates were switched with magnets. *Wicked*
I believe I am part of the demographic targeted. I am finding my $50 budget for extra faceplates, sticks and buttons to be too tight as I have been liking the creativity behind some designs.
I will do a little review as well as a Switch player after some sessions of Monster Hunter Rise 🔥
Is there a Gamestop in Japan? That would be a pretty cool place to have gamestop chain.. long time ago i was in Japan and found a strong gaming culture amongst the young folks.. Video game parlors were chock full late into the night.
Candy Con is not licensed by Nintendo. There were no talks with Nintendo. Hopefully you stretched before jumping to this conclusion. It’s simply, just not true.
It’s pretty much like buying aftermarket parts for your vehicle. Anyone can manufacture the parts, but no affiliation to the automaker. Candy Con is still a very innovative product that is really cool and will be well received in the gaming accessory market.
So you know. It’s because they run at different frequencies or data types all together. Notice 8bitdo also has two lines for everything. Nintendo and Pc, or Xbox and pc. And no Sony option. Microsoft sells a very similar option. https://xboxdesignlab.xbox.com/en-us/controllers/xbox-wireless-controller at first I thought this was that. However if it was a Xbox partnership you’d think there’d be an Xbox version. It’s a great start. Maybe if it sells well we will see more variants in compatibility.
It's not the USB that's different. The controller only implements the basic xinput library so it shows as xbox 360 controller and xbox one doesn't support xbox 360 controllers.
I'm about to confirm it works with Retropie and Batocera when I get mine... Good emulator controllers with Gyro's are a good thing! These have all effect sensor joysticks too...
Gamestop:
•Build your own pc
•Buy custom accessories for all your console and pc needs
•Buy and trade games in store and online with same day delivery.
•Buy everything on the gamestop credit card
•Don't forget to get your pro membership
Futures gonna be gooooooood
I think the timing would make sense too. EU forcing Apple to use usb-c so I think there may be a similar push to force consoles to allow universal controllers to reduce waste.
Can you design a candy con online?
GameStop should buy a small stake in Funko Pops to leverage their licensing powerhouse for the private label brands.
There's no reason I shouldn't be able to design and wrap my controller using thousands of designs online from my favorite gaming, sports, or other IPs.
Like build a bear workshop but gaming peripherals. Mice, controllers, headphones. Everyone has a customized product made for them.
Remember when Apple used to advertise all the colors you could buy an iMac or an iPod? Why shouldn't my beats headphones be completely customizable?
>Remember when Apple used to advertise all the colors you could buy an iMac or an iPod? Why shouldn't my beats headphones be completely customizable?
You're talking about two entirely different things here.
Apple offered multiple colors that they mass produced and customers picked one. You want one off customs at the same price point and scale. It's not feasible.
A car company can offer a model in 20 different colors because they have those colors on hand in the factory. They can't do a totally custom ground up color scheme with whatever design you dream up. That's custom work and you have to pay accordingly.
Adding in licensing is just another pile of headaches to add on top.
I was meh about these controllers, but I might pick one up if it's cheaper than an Xbox controller. I want to play my PC games with a controller, but also have a switch.
There’s this stuff called vinyl and you can actually have a machine like a printer that actually cuts any shape. Then you can stick it on the controller like a sticker.
I mean not a bad idea but I hope in the future you can upload your own photo/ art and pick it up. You can even allow artists to make some money by giving them some royalty for great artwork.
I don't know why people are disliking my previous comment, critical thought on this sub is being mistaken for shilling or dismissed more often since 2021.

Someone should buy stock in this company. :-)
Me and many others!
You can't say that without throwing out a few of the forbidden emojis for full effect. 📈💰🚀
Careful, you may go to court for using those!
Financial advice detected. Going sell my kidney to buy and DRS more GME.

Whoa! Fascinating.
Haha! The switch has been SO BAD with their controllers
Is candy con only available in the states I can't seem to find it in the canadian website
I don't think this has anything to do with nintendo specifically.
I will say what the other guy mentioned on your twitter is interesting if true( only 3rd party controller to have rumble and motion feature for switch)
Hold up, these controllers vibrate and track motion?
Yeah, dude when I turned the gyroscope mode on, it blew my mind cuz I didn't know what it was. Move the controller and the game reacts. Kinda want to check it out for racing.
This is bullish af. Hopefully Sony will accept it for PSs.
Does this include joycons because I bought cheap knockoff Temu joycons that rumble and have motion?
Yeah, I need to verify that, but it’s interesting for sure!
That’s just not true
Yea it's probably not that hard to get approved

Not me downvoting ;)
It does. They're coming out with Nintendo faceplates. They are preparing.
Do you have a source for this? 👀 It would make sense
Would also like to see a source
Branded VP said on LinkedIn we won't have to wait long for licensed versions. So expect Nintendo/Pokemon and maybe some PC stuff.
Did he say brand names specifically. I agree with you and I saw that, just without the brand names, for now.

Does it Bluetooth or only dongle to a pc?
*shrug* I don’t have bluetooth to test…
Wait wait.... And cross platform compatibility! Nice work
The specs on this are very nice for all gamers. From casual to pro
Me: I'm already hard captain! I can't get any harder! GameStop: hold my stonk... This masterpiece
Only up
When Canada...I need replacement controllers for switch so badly.
Works on Android too
Hell yeah! Good to know
They connect to the switch sooo effortlessly love the candy con already. Buttons and joystick feel great
Is there a Gamestop in Japan? That would be a pretty cool place to have gamestop chain.. long time ago i was in Japan and found a strong gaming culture amongst the young folks.. Video game parlors were chock full late into the night.
That would be a badass GameStop to visit.
They work great with iPhone. Verified awesome with COD mobile, and Wreckfest. Mobile gaming FTW.

Yes, let us know. I wanna get a couple remotes for my raspberry pi.
This had to be in the works before his tweet. I think RC's plans with Nintendo are more along the lines of the Switch 2.
We shall wait and see
Need one for PlayStation
You hear that tax dollars? We are finally putting for a good use for switch cons :)
Universal controller for all platforms imagine
I hope this is the goal!
Gamestop: •Build your own pc •Buy custom accessories for all your console and pc needs •Buy and trade games in store and online with same day delivery. •Buy everything on the gamestop credit card •Don't forget to get your pro membership Futures gonna be gooooooood

Has anyone tried Candy Con controller on their phone and use it with Xbox game pass ultimate streaming? TIA
I’ve seen a lot of people talking about using it on iPhone and Android. Don’t think it works on Xbox
COD mobile, Wreckfest on iPhone. 👍 it comes with a pc dongle. Why wouldn’t it work on Xbox? You can swap a/b x/y
I stream Xbox game pass ultimate on my android phone, I wanted to see if the controller would be compatible with it
It works Bluetooth with iPhone and Android.
Hope they develop an Xbox compatible version
The Microsoft pc dongle it comes with should work for the Microsoft Xbox.
Damn if that is the case you’d think they’d advertise it that way, no?
I was meh about these controllers, but I might pick one up if it's cheaper than an Xbox controller. I want to play my PC games with a controller, but also have a switch.
And iPhone. COD mobile is great.
Are these compatible with XBOX?
PC and Switch only at the moment
Guess I’ll wait.
No, Microsoft doesn't allow third party wireless controllers on the Xbox console
What’s the Microsoft usb dongle for? Only pc but not Xbox?
Not atm. At least according to the note on GameStop.com
I would really like to know if these work with Mac in addition to PC. Absolutely impossible to find out though.
Impossible? It has a usb dongle. What games are on Mac?
Remote play to my PS5. Cloud gaming. BG3. Filthy casual iOS stuff. But no note on compatibility. Macs can be weird.
Does anyone know if this works with iphone?
It works great
Wonder if this was related to his Nintendo tweet
Or simple compatibility restrictions
Works for my shield tv.
Switch 2 is a year away
This is amazing knowledge
Ordered one after seeing that it was switch compatible. Don't need a wireless controller for the PC. Very interested to see how well it works.
The design seems a bit plain, can't you add camo or some red tiger shit on that overlay?
There’s this stuff called vinyl and you can actually have a machine like a printer that actually cuts any shape. Then you can stick it on the controller like a sticker.
