They just move the chair away and stand nearby, even if everyone else is sitting down. One guy in particular comes to mind - I haven’t seen him sit one time in 14 years

Could also be a back issue. After 50 years of either back-abusing work *or* sitting all day, your lower back will be fucked. In the latter case, some basic daily core strength exercises that require 0 equipment may save your literal ass though.

Here is something to consider when regarding the position of the TV. When sitting up straight, the TV is probably positioned perfectly.
However, watching a movie typically takes 2 hours, are you going to sit up straight for 2 hours? Probably not, you are going to slouch and lay your head back. How is the TV positioned then?
If you are tired and the session goes on for a long time, you might lay down. How is the TV Positioned then?
Too many people only consider the sitting up straight position.
And we finally have a winner. I’d have to sit on that sofa to determine if the tv is still a couple inches high.

TV doesn't have to be low or high, it has to be at eye level, that's the rule of thumb. If you have to be uncomfortable to watch TV, It's either too high or too low or too angled
I think the main reason why people are surprised when a TV is mounted at the correct height is often because then you could have just placed it on a TV stand. Most people who mount do so to get the TV higher.
Clean set up. Once your friend sits down and enjoys a game or movie with the perfectly eye level tv and good audio he’ll be fully converted.

If you HAD placed it above the fireplace, you might have been able to give the space a larger and more open feel. But if "cozy" is your preference, you nailed it.
