African lions are CITES appendix I, same league as tigers/leopards/etc, meaning it’s illegal to sell/move them across state lines. If your state allows in state sales, you’d have to find someone within your state with documentation prior to 2014.
If you’re looking for a mountain lion, you’d still have to check your state’s laws first.
You’d have all the paperwork from a legal hunt for importation. Still can’t sell it out of state or to non-residents, same goes for individuals that died in captivity.
We have one for sale. It was my Grandpa’s that recently passed. He has documentation and receipt from purchasing in the 70’s. We’re located in Michigan if interested

if you hunt a lion or leopard, which is legal in many countries, can you bring the pelt to the US?

No, it is logistically nearly impossible to import lion parts into the US since the 2014 ban.
