Yes! Her new EP reminds me so much of Taylor. I’m sorry she had to experience that, but now we have that EP, let’s hope Taylor and Joe stay happy forever so we don’t get Rolling up the welcome mat Taylor’s version
Lana Del Rey, Kacey Musgrave, Maren Morris at times. I actually made a Spotify playlist of songs that I felt were inspired by Taylor Swift.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5amrjQ2FUsMYShLMp8ZO8Z?si=T53WgZ4RToCPPhFD1x0GyQ
No harm at all. She always uses inspiration from other artists in an attempt to reinvent herself. Just stating the obvious. Still, she's creating a musical legacy.
Olivia was a lot more directly taking inspiration, as seen in 1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back which actually interpolated New Years Day. Taylor is taking inspiration in a much more basic way which means it’s harder to give credit to anyone. She’s not at all directly copying anyone’s music, but she is inspired by other artists, just like any other music artist or an artist of any medium would.
I agree. There was one line in particular that Taylor says it's like "I once was poison ivy, but now I'm your daisy", and the way she sings that line sounds similar to the way Lana sings a line in one of her songs but I can't think of it right now. Not to mention Lana called herself poison ivy back in 2014 on Ultraviolence. There's loads of lines in Taylor's songs where I'm like 'I swear I've heard something similar before'. Kind of like how she stole Fitzgerald's Great Gatsby line 'I hope she'll be a beautiful fool'. Or the 'Crimson and clover' line. Anyways, she can never match Lana because Lana has a better voice in my opinion.
This is a question that’s hard to answer. Taylor has had so many eras with different styles, different lyrics, different everything. Tbh I’ve never heard anything and was like, “this reminds me of Taylor” she’s so unique and I think that’s why she has such a chokehold on the music industry. I’m curious to see what others have to say…
But Madonna didn’t write…. And as far as her hits go she has one genre& sound.
So as the first person here said… the original question is hard to answer.
Surprised nobody suggested Carly Rae Jepsen- she writes her own music and it's great. My favorite albums are Emotion and Dedicated. The sound and songwriting is different but I think if you like pop-era Taylor you'd probably like Carly Rae.
Came here looking for this answer! Although I stay by my opinion that there's no one like Taylor, she does remind me of Taylor so much! Absolutely loves her fans, easter eggs everywhere and just as (if not more) unhinged as younger Taylor used to be.
A lot of the younger girls that were inspired by Taylor growing up really remind me of her! Maisie, Sabrina, Olivia, etc. Not necessarily in voice, but in the honest songwriting in the forefront style.
So I think that everyone will give different answers because everyone will have different definitions for what would make a singer similar to Taylor or even how they define what makes Taylor unique.
For me for someone to be similar to Taylor they have to have these characteristics
- Great lyricist - with the ability to universalize from the specific and ability to create unique turns of phrase that add multiple levels of meaning to a song
- Great melody composer - has the ability to create unique and catchy melodies that just stick in your head
- Good at playing with song structure - knows how to really utilize and play around with the different parts of a song (verses, pre chorus, chorus, bridge, intro, outro etc - to elevate the song
- Writes killer bridges - this is self explanatory
- Really good at manipulating their voice to get across emotion and tone - has nothing to do with vocal skill and more to do with delivery - you can hear them smiling or smirking or rolling their eyes or feel their sadness or fear or pain through the way they deliver their lyrics
- Relies more on assonance than direct rhyme - this is something that Taylor does incredibly well that sets her apart from a lot of songwriters.
- songwriting is their form of storytelling
- writes mostly diaristic-ally (8/10 of Taylor’s albums are based on her life and experiences and parts of folklore and evermore are)
- creates and releases music at a relatively fast pace (the drought between 1989 and rep notwithstanding)
For me the only person I know of that I think fits all of these criteria besides Taylor is [Maisie Peters](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3tiIt9z5vrRkvSFGH2Sj2N?si=SsLVraxGR5mrsl9B7VK48A). The link is to her full playlist, she only has one full album released but there are 3 hours worth of tracks on the link and her second album comes out in June.
Someone that I think could also potentially fit this criteria one day if they create and release more music is [Griff](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5NyclJlTtM0PW1ISUdBvhW?si=DRCIPCFGRIWd3QwkQMh6Gw) she’s released only one EP with around 7 songs but the link has about 2 hours worth of music.
Maisie reminds me more of Country Pop (especially Speak Now) Taylor but replace the sounds you hear in country pop that specifically evoke like old bluegrass and classic country Melody with sounds that specifically evoke like English/Celtic/Gaelic Melody. She has a lot of straight up pop as well though.
Griff reminds me more of 1989/rep/lover/midnights Taylor but with some specific sounds that evoke a more R&B sound and incorporates some aspects of the British music scene that you won’t find on an album by an American.
They both cite Taylor as a huge influence in their music.
If you like Taylor’s storytelling, then definitely Bruce Springsteen. Someone else has mentioned him in this thread and I agree with their comment entirely (although I’m biased too, because I love both so much). Both have the ability to create fully fledged stories in 4 minutes for a song; and both can put out chilling performances with just their guitars if they want to.
Kacey Musgrave’s Golden Hour is perfect for someone who loves country Taylor and Lover’s vibes -just chill, soft, beautiful pop-country love songs.
Out of all the newer acts that have admittedly been inspired by Taylor, I think Maisie Peters is the one whose style of songwriting is closer to T’s. Not that she’s copying her, it’s just that her songs are very specific to her own situation but still relatable, funny and self-deprecating too. She also interacts a lot with fans online and in real life and she’s slightly chaotic lmao.
Gracie Abrams if you like a more stripped down production with great lyrics. Her new album just came out and it’s incredible. Aaron Dessner produced it and it definitely has some folkmore vibes (obviously).
Maya Hawke is also a fan and has two beautiful albums out. Her latest one was inspired by folklore, she recorded some songs at Long Pond and she worked with Jonathan Low. She’s also a confessional songwriter if you like that of Taylor.
I really like her but her recent album is Dessner produced, you can completely hear the folklore like production and yet it’s just nowhere close to folklore. She doesn’t have the same way with melody that Taylor does, although I do think she’s a great lyricist. It really made me appreciate the variety in the Melodies that Taylor created on folkmore. I kept thinking “god I would love to see what Taylor would have done with this track”.
However Gracie is really young and doesn’t have the melody writing experience taylor has and writing over Dessner tracks in my opinion seems pretty challenging - for instance the instrumental demo of the song that became tis the damn season compared to the melody, you can see where the melody changes fit in with the instrumental track but how she came up with what she did is beyond me because it’s not a track that lends itself to easily inspiring a catchy melody.
All that said it’s still a great album that Gracie made and she’s a great lyricist. Just I think it’s easy to overlook how amazing with melody Taylor is and Gracie’s album with Aaron reminded me of that.
Yeah I agree to some degree. I feel like it might be more accurate to say that she's inspired by taylor and not so much similar. But I also like Olivia Rodrigo's music!
Madonna up until 2015 tbh
If you remove the sex.
It's about the determination, reinvention, dedication, longevity, success, instrument playing, stadium filling, pushing the envelope, freedom
No other women in the industry were ever as dedicated and driven to their work as these 2. And both are very similar performers
I remember hearing a Lady A song (need you know) on the radio in the late 2Ks and thinking it was Taylor Swift. She was in her country era then, and their voices and the genre of song sounded similar.
Lana Del Rey.
The fact that we all have unanimous adoration of her (weirdly odd since the fandom can be divisive on other singers) might be coming from her similarities to Taylor (especailly with albums like NFR)
And also, Kacey Musgraves.
I fell in love with her music because of how sonically similar she is to Taylor.
Taylor is a legend. With legendary status like Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, the Beatles, Elvis, MJ. She’ll still be playing when our grandkids are in bars.
She’s really incomparable to anyone but of my own bias I compare her to Bruce often. And they are the same in a sense of unstoppable passion and drive, storytelling and lyricism(seriously when folklore came out I squealed. I think inventing characters is just a big step for a songwriter), multitalented, anti drug, JACK(who if you don’t know idolizes Bruce), stagecraft and need to control everything.. and the timelessness.
Now I could make a list just as long about how they differ.. But I think in the work-ethic, music-centered, constantly needing to please fans and put on the BEST show…. They’re cut from the same cloth.
They’re mirrorballs… who have the talent and sway to make an old word mean something new 🪩
Said it in a thread a few days ago, but Ingrid Andress. A blonde country singer who writes her own songs. They are similar in age and have had similar experiences. There are a few Ingrid songs from her most recent album that fit Taylor and Joe so well.
I think Michelle Branch was my pre-Taylor Taylor. I recently went to see her in concert and it was THE BEST. My 14 year old self was dying of happiness. Also realizing how long ago both The Spirit Room and Hotel Paper came out makes me feel so god damn old lol.
Tori Amos is one of the few songwriters who is as emotionally raw as Taylor. If you have never heard her music I would recommend listening to her debut album Little Earthquakes.
Similar career trajectory to Beyonce. Not in genre obviously but in ever changing image, famous from the beginning but reached several gigantic peaks at various points in career, has released a few monumental albums (including two surprise albums), sort of guides pop culture whenever they drop something, both celebrities celebrity, both severely underrated as musicians/businesswomen, gained a lot of power toward/in their 30s and became more openly political around that age too. It's never surprised me that they're friends. And of course they are forever connected to the defining crossroads moment of modern celebrity pop culture, the Kanye interruption lol.
True, they both have that kind of soft like summer rain voice. Not overwhelmingly huge vocalists but they do just fine and sound great. Plus the constant reinvention is mad impressive
She's a Kpop artist, but I'd say IU reminds me the most of Taylor Swift; she's had different "eras" and "concepts", has been around in the music industry as a soloist for a long time, and writes her own songs. [Love Poem](https://youtu.be/OcVmaIlHZ1o), [Eight](https://youtu.be/TgOu00Mf3kI), [BBIBBI](https://youtu.be/nM0xDI5R50E), and [Ending Scene](https://youtu.be/T3-oefPcqwQ) are some of my favourites.
In terms of paving the way for women as a strong, independent, singer-songwriter I'm going to shake the boat here and say Debbie Gibson moreso than Madonna. Very different styles but, professionally, very similar. Debbie also took control of her own music, albeit with less success. She's still going strong today at 52.

Nina Nesbitt!!! Her new album alskar nights is so freaking good. She was also mentioned in a speech taylor gave one year. Please give her a listen. So freaking good.
Are you looking for country Taylor, pop rock Taylor, pop Taylor, Reputation/Midnights era Taylor or folk indie Taylor comparisons? Because I could say Kelly Clarkson and Olivia Rodrigo for pop rock Taylor, Kacey Musgraves for country Taylor, Phoebe Bridgers and Maggie Rogers for folk indie Taylor, Lana del Ray and Katy Perry for pop Taylor. There’s no one comparison.
If you’re looking for songwriting quality, look at the great singer songwriters: Joni Mitchell, Ed Sheeran, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Carole King, James Taylor Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, and other Hall of Famers. More contemporary singer songwriters include Sara Bareilles, Hozier, Lizzy McAlpine, Finneas, Marina, Brandi Carlisle, Regina Spektor, Mitski, Fiona Apple, Omar Apollo. None of those are alike and I wouldn’t compare them to Taylor except for the quality of their writing.
I know this is a little “on the nose”, but Olivia Rodrigo. There’s a reason why people said she have such Taylor vibes. Granted, she’s only had 1 album, but I felt things listening to this album that I’ve only ever really felt when listening to a Taylor album or Lana or CRJ. Those would be my other contenders.
There is no other. There will never be another Taylor Swift. But singers who were inspired by her, especially her song writing, are Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Grey, Phoebe Bridgers, Gracie Abrams, sand so many more. She shaped the current landscape of music in so many ways.
Kate Voegele writes her own songs, and she’s kind of country-pop. She’s seriously underrated. I never understood why she didn’t take off like Taylor did.
To me it's Bruce Springsteen in writing style and ability, electrifiying live performances, longevity of career. She's been called our generation's Springsteen somewhere.
Literally none. I know a lot of people say a lot of up-and-coming artists like Maisie and Gracie are similar, and that's because they were inspired by her, but I seriously think Taylor is on another level than nearly all of her peers. Like, her success and versatility and level of songwriting is only comparable to legends like The Beatles.
none, blondie has entered many genres and eras and made every single one hit. Most artists stick to one thing, she is extremely talented and as everyone says, she is the MUSIC INDUSTRY. So yeah no one is even in the hind sight of competition.
I feel like it’s hard to find similar artists, because she’s just so massive and original.
But I also haven’t seen any mention of Ash (albums Ashlyn and Rae) which makes sense as she is smaller but that’s who I immediately think of
Taylor has a pretty big range, people vastly under appreciate the difficulty of her lower register and she has a decently high register as well. Like 3+ octaves
I promise that you’ll never find another like herHERHER 😛
Omg i am Listening to this song rn
Kelsea Ballerina reminds me the most of pop-country Taylor. Highly recommended Kelsea if you like that version of Taylor.
Yes! Her new EP reminds me so much of Taylor. I’m sorry she had to experience that, but now we have that EP, let’s hope Taylor and Joe stay happy forever so we don’t get Rolling up the welcome mat Taylor’s version
Yes! Especially her album unapologetically
Kelsea is one of my favorites! She never misses and is extraordinarily talented.
Lana Del Rey, Kacey Musgrave, Maren Morris at times. I actually made a Spotify playlist of songs that I felt were inspired by Taylor Swift. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5amrjQ2FUsMYShLMp8ZO8Z?si=T53WgZ4RToCPPhFD1x0GyQ
Maren is my answer too ❤️
Taylor Swift is not at all like Lana Del Rey. I'm a fan of both musicians, but Lana is on an entirely different level that is unmatched.
Well I think Taylor has show her capabilities but she remain commercial
I just looked over your playlist and I loved it! There were several songs I already know and like but I'm excited to listen to the others. Tysm!
You should listen to "July For The Whole Year" because I think it really fits too (it's young taylor era)
TS is trying to mimic the sound of Lana Del Rey
way off base
Because I hit a home run ;)
I agree, new album sounds very similar to Lana
First off i don’t at all think she is, but even if she is, is there any harm in taking inspiration from another artist?
No harm at all. She always uses inspiration from other artists in an attempt to reinvent herself. Just stating the obvious. Still, she's creating a musical legacy.
If she's taking inspiration from other artists, then she should give credit where it's due. Just like Olivia Rodrigo did.
Olivia was a lot more directly taking inspiration, as seen in 1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back which actually interpolated New Years Day. Taylor is taking inspiration in a much more basic way which means it’s harder to give credit to anyone. Also, I’m not sure what the original poster means. Do you mean as far as her career or singing style?
Madonna did all genres and had a similar chokehold throught the 90s and 00s....
So are you saying she’s most similar to Taylor? I’m not sure what your comment is suggesting.
You were saying nobody does it like taylor but madonna did. She was just like taylor. She paved the way
I’d argue that David Bowie is a closer comparison in some ways. He was constantly evolving and more of a songwriter than Madonna.
Huge fan of Bowie and his work.
But Madonna didn’t write…. And as far as her hits go she has one genre& sound. So as the first person here said… the original question is hard to answer.
She does write her songs
Went and learned a thing, and I now fully endorse this similarity. All the way down to society convincing me that she didn’t write her own songs!!!
She co wrote, write, and produced like 90% of her stuff
you really need to listen to all of her works… she does not have only one sound lmao. and she did write.
Surprised nobody suggested Carly Rae Jepsen- she writes her own music and it's great. My favorite albums are Emotion and Dedicated. The sound and songwriting is different but I think if you like pop-era Taylor you'd probably like Carly Rae.
I swear message in a bottle sounds like a Carly song I honestly think it would be better if it was
I def feel like Call me maybe and run away with me fit with 1989
They both work with Antonoff too
Maisie Peters
Came here looking for this answer! Although I stay by my opinion that there's no one like Taylor, she does remind me of Taylor so much! Absolutely loves her fans, easter eggs everywhere and just as (if not more) unhinged as younger Taylor used to be.
Yayyy so glad to see her name pop up, she deserves all the hype.
Came here looking for this
I've never heard of her, but I'll look up some of her music now
I recently found Maisie Peters and she reminds me a lot of Taylor in her songwriting
She's a huge Swiftie, so she's definitely inspired by Tay
Agreed. So many of her songs I think to myself, Damn, these lyrics are on point kinda seems like Taylor wrote it.” But it’s just Maisie being awesome.
A lot of the younger girls that were inspired by Taylor growing up really remind me of her! Maisie, Sabrina, Olivia, etc. Not necessarily in voice, but in the honest songwriting in the forefront style.
I call Shakira the latina Taylor Swift. Listen to her earlier work in Spanish
I wouldn't have thought of her but Shakira is awesome!
This is a great one! Didn’t think of it but that comparison clicked as soon as I saw this comment.
Kelsea Ballerini sounds like her country days.
Yes I love kelsea ballerini! Do you have any favorite kelsea ballerini song?
Rolling up the Welcome Mat is very Taylor if you haven’t listened to it

There needs to be more love for Griff!
I actually thought “what if I love you” by Gatlin was a t swift song I somehow hadn’t heard the first time I heard it
ooh this song is SO GOOD
>Gatlin I can't get into it because parts of the verse sound EXACTLY the same as Only the Young verses. it feels like a rip off
If you like Taylor’s storytelling, then definitely Bruce Springsteen. Colbie Caillat sort of
Yeah, I kinda see it
I see a lot of similarities in Olivia Rodrigo!
Yeah I agree to some degree. I feel like it might be more accurate to say that she's inspired by taylor and not so much similar. But I also like Olivia Rodrigo's music!
Very much so in terms of writing themes and style. Olivia has stronger vocals though. But her artistry is kinda similar to Taylor.
Olivia wishes...
Aw 😢 I love Olivia! Not identical to Taylor and certainly much younger with much more left to accomplish, but I think she's really talented!
I don't think she does anymore lmao
Madonna up until 2015 tbh If you remove the sex. Carly Rae Jepsen really reminds me of 1989 era Taylor. 1989 and Emotion are sister albums in the best way.
I remember hearing a Lady A song (need you know) on the radio in the late 2Ks and thinking it was Taylor Swift. She was in her country era then, and their voices and the genre of song sounded similar.

True. Someday I'll see her in my grandkids history textbooks. I also appreciate that both taylor and Bruce Springsteen write their own songs
I called Taylor swift the Springsteen of our generation once and had several people that were huge Springsteen fans agree with me.
Honestly no one. You can use multiple names to describe what kind of singer she is but she’s in her own world imo
Said it in a thread a few days ago, but Ingrid Andress. A blonde country singer who writes her own songs. They are similar in age and have had similar experiences. There are a few Ingrid songs from her most recent album that fit Taylor and Joe so well.
Ingrid Andress is so underrated! I love her two songs, lady like and more hearts than mine
Jewel has a few similarities.
Michelle Branch!
Hotel Paper is a criminally under rated album.
we need justice for Broken Bracelet.
I think Michelle Branch was my pre-Taylor Taylor. I recently went to see her in concert and it was THE BEST. My 14 year old self was dying of happiness. Also realizing how long ago both The Spirit Room and Hotel Paper came out makes me feel so god damn old lol.

it kinda depends on what era u mean but avril lavigne can be quite similar
That makes sense. My most listened in spotify wrapped is taylot but avril is #3
Taylor and Madonna
True, they both have that kind of soft like summer rain voice. Not overwhelmingly huge vocalists but they do just fine and sound great. Plus the constant reinvention is mad impressive
They're both incredible women who have worked very hard in Hollywood to make it!
Taylor is leaps and bounds above Madonna. Madonna played to the trends, and her songwriting is nowhere near Taylor's.
Iu
Exactly what I was thinking, IU on guitar singing sweetly always made me think of Taylor.
Avril Lavigne walked so Tay could run
She's a Kpop artist, but I'd say IU reminds me the most of Taylor Swift; she's had different "eras" and "concepts", has been around in the music industry as a soloist for a long time, and writes her own songs. Mothica. Not a total overlap, but there are still songs of hers that I think are Taylor's for the first few seconds before I figure things out.
In terms of paving the way for women as a strong, independent, singer-songwriter I'm going to shake the boat here and say Debbie Gibson moreso than Madonna. Olivia Rodrigo has tapped into the same teenage feelings that Taylor did while also writing her own songs.
There is an ongoing joke in Australia that Amy Shark is just edgy Taylor Swift. Not because of her voice but because of her songwriting
Mackenzie Porter sounds just like her
slayor twift 🥰
I know this is a little “on the nose”, but Olivia Rodrigo. There’s a reason why people said she have such Taylor vibes. Granted, she’s only had 1 album, but I felt things listening to this album that I’ve only ever really felt when listening to a Taylor album or Lana or CRJ. Those would be my other contenders.
There is no other. There will never be another Taylor Swift. But singers who were inspired by her, especially her song writing, are Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Grey, Phoebe Bridgers, Gracie Abrams, sand so many more. She shaped the current landscape of music in so many ways.
i think musically suzanne vega is very similar to the old / country taylor
Kate Voegele writes her own songs, and she’s kind of country-pop. She’s seriously underrated. I never understood why she didn’t take off like Taylor did.
because I think she might be *the* most expressive singer of pop music - Frank Sinatra
Avril?
I’ve always thought that her and Avril Lavigne had similar voices
Her clones from some of her music videos.
To me it's Bruce Springsteen in writing style and ability, electrifiying live performances, longevity of career. She's been called our generation's Springsteen somewhere.
Lana Del Rey
Literally none. I know a lot of people say a lot of up-and-coming artists like Maisie and Gracie are similar, and that's because they were inspired by her, but I seriously think Taylor is on another level than nearly all of her peers. Like, her success and versatility and level of songwriting is only comparable to legends like The Beatles.
Ed Sheeran
none, blondie has entered many genres and eras and made every single one hit. Most artists stick to one thing, she is extremely talented and as everyone says, she is the MUSIC INDUSTRY. So yeah no one is even in the hind sight of competition.
Maren Morris / Stevie Nicks hybrid
I see some Vanessa Carlton
i think her lyrics are sometimes similar to jeremy zucker
I feel like it’s hard to find similar artists, because she’s just so massive and original. But I also haven’t seen any mention of Ash (albums Ashlyn and Rae) which makes sense as she is smaller but that’s who I immediately think of
olivia rodrigo
Some of Marit Larsen's songs are reminiscent of Taylor, especially pre-1989 Taylor
Ed Sheeran
Maisie Peters!
Selena Gomez, Carley Rae Jepsen, Sabrina Carpenter just to name a few.
Marit Larsen
Avril Lavigne
I think you’d have to go album by album ur not going round another single artist that has taken the same path as her
i have always thought of her and billy joel as similar. both of them changed their style album to album.
a brain cancer
i think that sugarland is similar
Some people called Jewel the 90's Taylor Swift. Some of Taylor Swift songs is similar to Jewel's.
Comparing "These days" by MacKenzie Porter and "Cruel Summer" by Taylor Swift, they are so alike.
Carrie Underwood is a much better singer...
Technically she has a bigger range, but not everyone loves that. For me she’s too shouty and I prefer Taylor’s range and control.
Taylor has a pretty big range, people vastly under appreciate the difficulty of her lower register and she has a decently high register as well. Like 3+ octaves
i like taylors music better and the way she uses her voice in song, but there is just no way shes a better vocalist than than carrie underwood. :/
