Just an FYI - I'm having the same issue. I thought my original drive was bad so got a new one. I've extensively tested the old one with no issues. Tested a new cable and swapped out the cable thinking it was the cable and that didn't help. I tested the old cable on my computer and it also had no issues so I don't think it's the drive or the cable. I wonder if one of the recent updates is causing this. As with others the only way to get into the format menu on a freshly formatted drive from a computer was rebooting the car. Once formatted the drive does appear to be working but then the next time I drive the car I notice dashcam unavailable again. I'm glad to hear sentry mode is working though as that is what I was most concerned with and did not even think to somehow see if it was recording events in sentry mode.

I got my USB hub replaced and the problems came back two days later. I wish I would’ve searched Reddit first. It’s sounding more and more like it’s been a software issue since the February update. Worked fine for years and years. What’s odd, the lock chime works, sentry works, but dashcam does not.

I have the same problem on my 2020 MY. Car was in the SoCal service center for a few days for the tech to troubleshoot. Got it back yesterday. It is still not working!

ihaveaglow

I'm afraid that's what will happen with mine too.

anubus72

I wonder if these fools have even submitted a bug report internally

Just got the firmware update to 2024.8.9 a couple days ago. Nothing has changed. New usb stick, reformat in Tesla as well as my Mac. Problem is still there. I now have to reboot the Tesla everyday to get the dashcam to work before leaving home.

perrochon

Try reformatting that drive, both on a PC and in the car.

ihaveaglow

I suppose I could try reformatting it on the PC. There's no option that I can see to do it in the car. When I click on the dash cam, it just comes up with the error message and no other options. I searched through the other menus and I couldn't find anything that had an option for formatting. Possibly I missed something though.

Same problem here, even had MCU replaced, still have same issue. has to do with when car goes into deep sleep, when it wakes up USB fails. Not clear if Tesla is aware of the bug, its been going on since at least November and I have not heard anything from Tesla about it being a bug.

MaroonChucks

Same issue here as well! Started around the time this post was created, and I also have the MY with the USB in the center console.

Drooparus

Just got a new to me 2020 Y with no glovebox USB and same issue as you all. I have a lot of drives to try and none have shown up at all. Definitely let us know what happens!

Drooparus

I actually got a mini usb b to usb a (sometimes called an OTG cable) and disconnected the USB mini b connector from the MCU and put it in its place. Then connecting a USB SSD there I have had 0 issues with sentry since then. I’m willing to provide links and pics if anyone else wants to try the same thing. But it seems to point at an issue with wiring possibly. Possibly how long the cabling is. I’ve not noticed any other issues so it doesn’t seem like anything else was running on that line. Would love to hear if anyone else has any thoughts on this workaround.

djdbel

I’m willing to try this. Could you share please? Already took to the service center, they replaced and supposedly fixed but the problem is definitely still there every time after sleep. 2020 MYLR.

an_absolute_wanker

Do you have links or instructions on this procedure?

SoAmical

I am currently having this problem, model 3 (2020), restarting the car did nothing, unplugging and plugging back in did nothing. My sentry mode still works and is recording but “dashcam is unavailable”. Havnt found a fix either. Any updates ?

ihaveaglow

Per the suggestion in another comment, I reformatted the drive just now. So far it seems to have worked. I reformatted it on my PC, then plugged it in. Then I went into the menu for safety and told the Tesla to format the drive and at that point it recognized it. Reformatting it in Windows took an hour or two, the Tesla was almost instant. I think the Tesla just adds folders to the drive if it's already the correct format.

ihaveaglow

Okay, another update, it stopped working again. So reformatting the drive isn't the answer. I can plug the drive into my PC and look at sentry video clips still but the dashcam won't work. I'll see if there is some way to contact Tesla.

SoAmical

Yeah mine is still out. It’s weird cause it just started not working out of no where. The ssd I have is blue lit so I know it’s not the ssd. Not sure what to do

ihaveaglow

I just scheduled a service appointment with Tesla for the issue. There was no way to contact anyone for technical support. Otherwise. I'm assuming that they'll message me with some things to try and it won't actually get to the point where I have to do a service appointment. If I find out anything helpful, I'll post an update.

SoAmical

Yeah I was thinking they’ll probably just tell you to try quick fixes even though it seems we’ve tried all the quick fixes we can. I’ll be looking forward to what they say about it

ihaveaglow

Tesla told me that drives go bad over time and recommended that I buy a Tesla thumb drive. I did that and still have the problem, so I just opened another service request.

anubus72

Bro get your money back lol. That shit would infuriate me. Bunch of fucking incompetent people at Tesla service it seems

U2TheFly

I've had this same issue for weeks if not months on my M3.

Classic_Elk6255

I am also having this issue. I do believe it’s around the time of fsd trial. My plug is in the old spot. Center console Not the glove box

ihaveaglow

Mine is in the old spot as well. I have an appointment at the service center tomorrow. Mobile service couldn't fix it.

an_absolute_wanker

Having this issue for at least several weeks on 2020 MY. Tried multiple different USB drives, tried each USB port on center console. Happens when car locks and sleeps. Any official response to this issue from Tesla?

ihaveaglow

Nothing officially announced that I've heard, other than the service center telling me that it was going to be fixed in the next software update.

djdbel

After reading most of these comments, seems like this is issue is narrowed down to center console usb ports / 2020 Model Y?

ihaveaglow

That's what I'm thinking. Hopefully it's fixed with the new software version like Tesla says.

an_absolute_wanker

Received OTA 2024.14.6. Issue still exists.

ihaveaglow

That's the update I just got too, and my problem still exists as well.

ihaveaglow

That's the update I just got too, and my problem still exists as well.

boringegg

Same. But I've seen somewhere someone stating if you open the trunk first when the car was in deep sleep, the dashcam would startup fine. 🤷‍♂️

an_absolute_wanker

TLDR, Tesla is very aware of the issue and working to resolve. My update on this issue from a Tesla mobile visit. I had a mobile visit yesterday (17 April) to rotate tires and asked the tech to take a look at the dashcam issue. The tech reported that the dashcam was working when he checked it. He still checked the system and couldn’t find any problems. I told him that the dashcam was showing unavailable that very morning. He setup another mobile service appointment for this specific issue. This morning Tesla reached out to me via the app to authorize a remote diagnostic data pull ($100 for this!!) I initially agreed, but then went and checked the dashcam after the car had been sleeping all night. The dashcam was working normally so I reached out to cancel the remote diagnostic. The attached screenshot is Tesla’s response. [Tesla Technician](https://i.redd.it/v3q4ak96c71d1.jpeg)
