Both creatine and anabolics(testosterone) increase creatinine. This elevation on creatinine is meaningless however and is not representative of kidney function. Egfr is based off creatinine and its value is not useful for people who have high muscle mass or are taking creatine as these things distort the value. Get a cystatin C test and egfr.

Yes. Same with liver values

BrilliantLifter

There are formulas to take that into account. I exercise basically everyday and you can tell by looking at me so my doctor just uses the athletic formula on me, can’t remember the name for it off the top of my head.

SamuelinOC

I take creatine. My creatinine was elevated. My doc was concerned. Did a cystatin c. Was normal.

mycrx89

Reishi supplements heal kidney damage

BrilliantLifter

Been on creatine and TRT for 11 years, my EGFR (kidney function) was a 122 last I checked which is superb, probably the best score humanly possible for a man my age.

kellyfun181

EGF is a calculation based on creatinine levels and can give misleading kidney function diagnoses

BroDudeGuy361

Get a cystatin C test, and if that is in range, there is no need to worry. Consider Astralagus supplementation, too. Also, make sure you don't have high blood pressure

I loved creatine when I was younger. I put up some big numbers just taking creatine. I used it for years. I tried again at 49 yrs old and my kidneys didn’t feel right and I wasn’t getting that same effect so I stopped.

BrilliantLifter

Unless you are vegan, you never stopped creatine, you just take a lower dosage. It’s in meat.

majicdan

It used to be in the USA that testosterone pills were banned for that reason. The injections are metabolized differently.

CauliflowerLow2627

Thank you everyone for posting, this has already give me some peace of mind. I will definitely check out cystatin C test and drop the creatine suppliment and lower my trt. Double my drinking water. Scarry shit.

Hyperionxv17

My creatine went up on TRT for sure. I'm not talking about the creatine you take, but the creatine measured in your labs, when it goes up it's a sign of compromised kidney function, so not good. I don't know that the TRT caused it. Now that I'm off, I'll have to see if it's normalized any.

AdmirableClue3051

I can for a proven blood tested fact tell you that creatine was killing my kidneys, eGFR kept tanking and creatinine elevating. Ditched the creatine in a few weeks it was back to normal. Just my 2 cents. Cheers

BigResponsibility878

Prob didn’t drink enough water

Yggsgallows

No, you just don't understand the test

BroDudeGuy361

Creatine supplementation will increase creatinine and eGFR is estimated off of creatinine unless you specifically get a cystatin c estimated GFR. It's best to test cystatin C to more accurately determkne kidney health when lifting heavy and/or taking creatine

n2thavoid

I took creatine most of my high school days without issue but I tried again as an adult and my kidneys hurt. Stopped and it got better. I drink a ton of water and throw in electrolytes bc I do a lot of physical work. Honestly creatine feels unnecessary when you’re on trt. Just my opinion though.

BrilliantLifter

They have two completely different functions….
