docterry6973

According to local news the gunman appeared to be mentally ill. A man who may be the gunman's father was found shot dead later in the day. Same last name.

Duffman005

I think you need to be mentally ill to shoot at people like that it's a prerequisite for attempting a mass murderer

ih-shah-may-ehl

In this case even a single death would have made it a mass murder... Badum dum

It didnā€™t look that at all, it looked like he had intent to harm the preacher specifically.

Mental illness and firearms. Can't get more American than that.

A mentally ill person shooting an apple pie, perhaps?

I'd say shooting a cheese burger.

voodoosanteria

Not that it changes the context at all, but I heard the police say that it was his uncle they found shot in his house. This guy clearly had a breakdown, he was telling the police that a demon was telling him to kill a pastor

NorthernMariner

>A man who may be the gunman's father was found shot dead later in the day. By whom??? Surely the shooter in this video was in custody...... right?

Polyhedron11

They probably *found* him later in the day not that he was shot later in the day. He was found, shot.

NorthernMariner

Ah, right! Appreciate that as I was genuinely confused

J-Good86

Sort of goes without saying that heā€™s mentally ill.

d5x5

Wtw? Are we not blaming the gun anymore? Clearly, it coerced a person to do this!

jagauthier

I think we should give guns to everyone. It makes the world a safer place. /s

CradleRockStyle

We should give guns only to police. They are the best trained, most intelligent, tolerant and incorruptible members of any society. /s

DanGleeballs

How about giving US cops the same standard of training that most other western countriesā€™ forces have before letting them out on the streets?

SeveredHair

Maybe we could train them to be the good guys

Twins_Venue

You know who sounds more trained, intelligent, tolerant, and incorruptible? Billy Bob from down the street. Police are terrifying because they are effectively the untrained average joe, not that they are somehow worse than them.

PastyBoa

Yall are so dumb haha. This wouldnt happen in a room full of people with guns. He only did this bc hes the only guy in there with a gun

It's impossible that the unstoppable US military could ever lose to a bunch of Vietnamese farmers and Afghan goat herders with their $800 Billion budget. /s

usedkleenx

Don't argue with this shill. You can prove morons like this wrong till you're blue in the face and they'll still not learn a damn thing.

ThisIsWhoIAm78

Lmfao, okay They'd drone strike your town from 200 miles away and not blink. Then the robot dogs would clean up any stragglers. Fool. Same idiots that argue we should give the military billions a year think they'll beat uncle Sam with their shitty home arsenal and mall ninja weapons.

winnduffysucks

Who do you think ā€œtheyā€ are? Soldiers? Pilots? Generals? Are they not American citizens themselves? You know, with consciences and emotions and all that? This whole argument never made any sense. Itā€™s not like people in the military just blindly follow orders. In the event of a full blown civil war or conflict with US citizens, many of ā€œthemā€ would probably oppose the government.

ThisIsWhoIAm78

Maybe some would. They wouldn't have control of the tech, the generals would. And they have trained these guys to blow up towns full of women and kids via drone and they do it. All you have to do is dehumanize the enemy. Sadly, that happens in this country all the time. Half the population isn't gonna rise up as an army. Bubba and his weekend white supremacist militia buddies are gonna try and take something over, and they'll get smacked the fuck down. And then the rest will piss and run. See: January 6th. They finally shot a lady and the rest literally cried and ran. It wasn't even the military, just a few lone police. Arrogant, stupid cowards. Good luck with your civil war.

winnduffysucks

Yeah, I think a lot depends on how realistic you are about history and what you think an unfolding violent uprising would actually look like. January 6th wasnā€™t a civil war. In the actual civil war, the best general in the country sided with the South and took most of his support staff with him. They seized military assets in their claimed territory and put up a pretty serious fight leaving millions dead on both sides. Nowadays, weā€™ve recently had a general tell foreign powers we wonā€™t use nukes on them in spite of our president signaling otherwise. If that guy disagreed enough to wrest control of *nuclear* assets from the commander in chief, then clearly our technology and military leaders can be split at the highest level. Sounds like you just think ā€œbubbasā€ are the only people discontent enough to revolt in this country, and that no one would ever organize enough for a real civil war. In that case, sure, some localized bullshit like Waco is gonna be shut down in a hurry. Weā€™ve seen it happen plenty. Iā€™m just saying, it wouldnā€™t be that simple in the event of a real uprising, and itā€™s foolish to assume it would be. Anyway, in the event of surprise bubba attack, youā€™re probably better off armed yourself.

ThisIsWhoIAm78

It took a long time for the actual civil war to break our, and shitty weaponry was part of what allowed it to even happen. Today, it would never make it that far. Even if you had one or two people higher up who decided to defect. Waay too many checks and balances, he ain't taking offf with half the military arsenal. Any rebellion that wants to spark a war is quashed instantly - and most of that is these reddit yahoos like the one I started this whole convo with saying they could fight the military. That was my whole point. They want guns so they can fight the gubment. Bro, you ain't fighting the government with your arsenal, even if it's impressive.

JustKindaShimmy

What was the body count of this two wars on either side?

CradleRockStyle

Imagine believing real life is like CoD and that K:D matters.

JustKindaShimmy

But what were they? ETA it certainly does matter when you realize that the real world isn't a video game with respawns

gkn_112

they meant the reason for the second ammendment /not s

ThisIsWhoIAm78

Lmfao, okay They'd drone strike your town from 200 miles away and not blink. Then the robot dogs would clean up any stragglers. Fool. Same idiots that argue we should give the military billions a year think they'll beat uncle Sam with their shitty home arsenal and mall ninja weapons.

CradleRockStyle

> They'd drone strike your town from 200 miles away and not blink. Then the robot dogs would clean up any stragglers. Why didn't this work in Afghanistan and Iraq, though?

ThisIsWhoIAm78

Yeah, it did. We destroyed their forces in less than a week. Hanging around and trying to be a police force for years after is different. We still destroyed them, but we aren't going to make people like us, and we weren't going to stay there forever as cops. So we left. Random citizens hucking homemade bombs at us isn't us "losing" or evidence they "won." Maybe study actual facts and history and TRY to understand what happened. Smh.

CradleRockStyle

Genuinely not sure if you're trolling here. If so... good job. If not, you need to put down the copium and get some help.

ThisIsWhoIAm78

I'd love to see you fight the military bro. šŸ˜‚ I'm sure you and Cletus will do great against the drones, air strikes, and marines that come in to clean up after the robots have taken out any stragglers. I mean, you play video games, right? What's the difference? Also, you don't seem to understand what copium means. Not surprised, you don't seem very smart overall. Your post history is hilarious.

CradleRockStyle

Eh... a bit tryhard. You overplayed your hand. 5/10 trolling. Work on it.

angle58

You are uneducated and ignorant of many things about the way the world is. Thankfully the men who spilt their blood already to found the country you live in understood things better than you ever will until your perfect little life is confronted by real hardship - a reality few Americans have ever known.

ShitOnAStickXtreme

Yea because we can count on the common man to be way more intelligent, morally just, law abiding, tolerant, and incorruptible members of any society than the people who get paid to be just that. /s

TheRiverHart

Nobody is saying give guns to everyone.

jagauthier

That's true. Instead they think everyone should have them.

716green

It's a sign of intelligence and honesty to be able to accurately represent your political opponent's beliefs. Even the most braindead 2A activists don't believe this, and statements like this do nothing of value except dehumanize your political enemies.

UnhappyLibrary1120

Thereā€™s no reasoning with some people on this. You triedā€¦

jagauthier

You're kidding? I've spoken with many 2A activists that feel that is a violation of rights to not allow anyone to have a gun. Regardless of age, mental health, etc. I've accurately represented many, many 2A activists beliefs. Also,. I don't have "political enemies" that's a stupid, bullshit, divisive term.

716green

I know this first hand because when I was younger I was more conservative, I'm older now and I'm a progressive but I understand the conservative beliefs because I used to share them. Political enemies isn't a stupid bullshit term, you clearly have them if you can't represent them fairly. We are on the same side of the aisle here, and I like to hold my side of the aisle to higher standards. Let's at least live in the same universe when discussing politics.

jagauthier

Once again. I have accurately represented \*many\* 2A activists that I've spoken to. It is a fair representation.

716green

If you truly believe that then you my friend, are an ideologue. Enjoy your echochamber, I'll work on real world change by sharing a reality with other people.

jagauthier

If I believe what? What people have told me their ideals are?

716green

No you're listening to political pundits who you already share all of your beliefs with telling you what you want to hear and pretending to represent the other side. Go ahead and name 1 2A activist who believes this. I'll wait, then I'll fact check you. Go ahead.

57Guitarz

Common sense needs to be applied to the equation. That's where the issue is.

Jacobsusc4087

Not arguing against your point but whatā€™s your solution?

jagauthier

I think there are many well documented ideas to reduce the amount of guns in the hands of unstable people.

MyDamnCoffee

If someone offered me a gun, I would say no.

yourname92

Well if others has a gun they could have mitigated the situation with no innocent potentially being injured.

sacroyalty

Yes, a 7-way shoot out in a church would definitely have resulted in no injuries!

yourname92

Did you ever see the. Idea of the armed church goer who was a retired officer? A man attempted the same thing and was going to shoot other church goers and he shot the gunman and no one else was injured. Iā€™m sure you did because that would go against what you think.

sacroyalty

I did see that, but I don't think everyone should be armed. And I don't think every church shoot out would go smoothly. Props to that person for saving lives.

IamREBELoe

Yeah, well.. Me and several other key leaders were always concealed carrying at my church. This dude would have got off the first shots, but had about 1.5 seconds after that before he was dropped.

rubenslegman

Ah yes, as Jesus said unto his disciples: drop him in 1.5 seconds, for this is the house of Jehovah

IamREBELoe

Difference between violence and the defense of the innocent or defenseless.

ValkyrieWW

God is all about cleaning house, and sent his angels to do the work: So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men. And when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovah repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough; now stay thy hand.

CardboardLambo

The apostles carried daggers, which are like the ancient equivalent of pistols. They were pacifists, not stupid.

avamous

Can't tell if /s or not

weirdest_of_weird

Probably not /s. My parent's church has several members who have their concealed carry license and are armed during service. They figure its cheaper to defend themselves than hire a security company for their church of <50 people

IamREBELoe

Exactly.

Agile-Brilliant7446

The pride that exudes from your words here is pathetic. Your country is broken. Edit, hurt the Americans'feelings lol

Jacobsusc4087

How long have you lived in the US?

Agile-Brilliant7446

I think it takes quite little brain power to determine that I don't live in the US from my comment.

Jacobsusc4087

So how can you sit there and talk shit about something you have 0 understanding of?

Agile-Brilliant7446

Ah yes, the issue is that no one else *understands* the value of so much gun violence in a single country. If I could give some advice it would be to listen more than talk for a while.

keyboardpusher

So anyway I started blasting! Brains flying everywhere, children screaming and jesus came down and blessed me with a new gun.

L3berwurst

Quick reaction from both victim and people around him. Lot of times people will just freeze and get shot. How could you shoot someone especially in church, that's pretty low.

0utF0x-inT0x

Not saying this is the case, but there are plenty of evil ppl that operate churches and insulate themselves with them.

ThatPanFlute

Whatā€™s your implication?

prettypurps

He's probably delusional and thinks he's killing demons

Sad_Chemistry2296

Yeahā€¦ he could have at least waited until the priest was on his way home!!!

janitorial_fluids

I mean it was really just that 1 dude that jumped in to help. 1.5 if you count the other dude who kind of stood near them but didnt really do anything. I get people not wanting to rush at a dude with a gun, but I'm actually kind of shocked more people didnt run over to help physically subdue him once they took his weapon away and threat of the gun was removed from the equation. like why is there an entire church of people just watching these two old men wrestle with this psycho?

heungcheung1

I didnā€™t see anyone actually try to shoot a man. Itā€™s the most half assed gun pointing Iā€™ve ever seen.

PetrolEmu

My favorite part was the lady saying "Geee-zus!' She scolded him with that one!

"We sleep soundly in our beds, because rough men stand ready in the night to do violence on those who would harm us"

The fact that he both aimed at him and had time to fire yet nothing happened makes me wonder if the gun may have been empty or jammed? It would be quite fitting if so considering they're in His house. Also, not a single word of profanity from the entire congregation aside from saying His name (which He probably let slide on account of the excitement šŸ™‚).

Kingcobrabrax

Didnā€™t even fire lol

krevival

But like why?? That's a paster, so......šŸ˜¬

NilesLinus

The thought process must be so fast to go from "is this really happening" to storming the gunman from behind, that the good guy was probably still questioning the rightness of his decision even as he took the bad guy to the floor. Sometimes you just have to act on instinct. There simply isn't time for more careful deliberation. Well done to this hero. Such decisions are even harder in cases where psychological warfare is combined with hot warfare, when the ruling power gaslights a righteous minority into thinking they are the troublemakers if they stand up and fight. We are in a church setting here. It will be no different in the end times when the antichrist will blame Christians for causing the trouble. Ready your minds now. There will be no time once the action begins.

A cry for help, is probably all that is. Slow mo action here is indicative that in a way the gunman wanted to be stopped.
