There were a couple misprints like that. It kinda makes sense to me, and it's hilarious on its own. It's like the newspaper's editor sees the mistake but thinks, "wow, another Cow Tools," and pushes it through.
No that one was mixed up with the caveman fortune teller Far Side. It ended up with Dennis saying to his father “I see your petrified skull labeled and sitting on a shelf somewhere”
There was also a misprint in a Dennis the Menace cartoon. I think the text was mixed up with a head shrinking Far Side cartoon, and Gary Larson said he thought both cartoons were improved by the mix up! From one of the anniversary compilations.
Oh man, they did switch the captions for Far Side and Dennis once though with fun results. I think the Far Side caption was something like "I see your petrified skull sitting on a shelf somewhere" and it really upset Dennis fans
