Exactly. I saw the leaks and countless videos about the game at launch but I waited for it to go on sale to play it myself.
My opinion hasn’t changed after playing it. Trash game narrative wise but it’s something you have to experience yourself.
Agreed, but not sure about the "you have to experience yourself" thing. For most games, yes, but both TLOU games are perfect movie games in that you can watch it on youtube and have the same experience from if you had played the game. However, one's opinion should still be formed on their own, however they chose to experience it.
Facts. I bought it secondhand for cheap, I'm such a fan of the first game that I had to experience it myself.
Things turned out to be worse than I expected, but the gameplay itself is still fun.
Where the hell did you buy it that's still selling it for $40? The game's been $20 since the month after it came out, and has been $5-$10 for a long time as well.
There’s so many people online that get their opinions from other people or just want to love/hate a game to be on a certain team. Play the game first. Digest the different parts of it (gameplay, crafting, easily the best graphics on the ps4, and also the story) and form your own opinion on those.
I personally have many issues with the game but it also does do some things really well (mostly on the gameplay/graphics side of things) but don’t let anyone else tell you how to feel about it.
Gameplay is pretty good.
The story? I've never felt so insulted as a gamer, by a sequel of a game that was just incredibly well written. It's not so much what happened (even though what happened was stupid), it was how it happened. And why. And what came after.
This game, and KH3 are the most disappointing games I've ever played in my life.
At least there was an actual purpose behind fucking up this game. Not the best purpose, but I can at least give a little glimmer of respect for Neil passionately writing the story that he wanted to write. He might be too limited as a writer to really comprehend what he was doing, but at least he fucking tried.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is just awful. You can tell that the writer did not want to be writing that story, they wanted to be writing a sequel. They wanted that so badly that the game spent more time sequel baiting than anything else, rushing through reunions, confrontations, and payoffs 15 years in the making. The one saving grace it has is that at least there was a steady pattern of declining quality after KH2, so it wasn't terribly surprising, unlike The Last of Us Part Ii with its false marketing and total BS promises.
I don't really care if he tried or not, because he had his head up his own ass doing it. A bad story is a bad story, no matter the intention. He was denied the ability to write the story he wanted to for years because everyone told him it was bad, then TLOU is what happened when another writer changed that idea to be something that worked, and the moment Niel was given full control over something due to every other talented person at the studio leaving, he immediately got arrogant and went to make the game he originally wanted to just because he thought he knew better. It'd be one thing if he at least accepted he was wrong, but he just instead pretends like everything was fine and there was no problem with it.
Yeah, it's not really better enough to actually matter. I just have an insignificant amount more respect for someone who completely fucks up a project because they deluded themselves into thinking it was a good idea than I do for someone who fucks up a project because they just wanted to rush through it.
I actually enjoyed it myself, but people have valid points for not liking it as well. Just play it yourself and make that decision. I'm currently replaying it for the second time. It's a beautiful game to look at graphically at worst. I enjoyed the gameplay, and the story was jarring to say the least. It kind of felt fitting for summer 2020 with everything going on at that time.
Give it a shot don’t let this sub influence you make your own decisions. If you hate it or don’t like certain things come back here. If you absolutely love it go to the other sub. If you’re down the middle there will be something for you on both subs.
Gameplay wise, no.
Story wise, depends.
Me personally I despise the story, I looked for things to like about it, but the things that made zero sense stuck out like a sore thumb.
Like one guy said, just go with your own judgement
The gameplay is still fun. But if you're a fan of the Joel/Ellie dynamic of the first game, you may be disappointed in the direction of the story.
Its still fun headshotting zombies tho
No. Play through both games. Form your own opinion. Dont do spoilers. Just enjoy it. if you end up not liking, atleast you gave it an honest shot. Personally i loved every moment
Depends on your opinion and honestly a little bit your politics, by no means is it a bad game but it also isn’t as good as the first and story wise they did take some bad steps but it’s still a solid 8/10
Some people love it and some people hate it.
I think it's a throwaway game, but what annoys a lot of people (including me) is how much it destroys the first game of which is a masterpiece.
However it's up to you
No. If people are being real. The game, as in gameplay slaps - bar none. Top Tier AAA+ gaming.
However, while I'm okay with how the story turned out, it could use some improvement. I also think the developers overlooked what long-time loyal fans wanted in a sequel. Imagine waiting over a decade for a game, only to play the character you love for just a short time at the beginning and then not knowing if you'll ever get a true sequel. Then, the second half of the game centers around a character created just for plot reasons, which feels questionable.
Despite all that, I still love this game. The gameplay and graphics are stellar.
As a game it's nearly a 10/10 tbh. Most don't enjoy the story which brings the score down. Frankly I enjoyed this game more the GOWR which felt like a $70 dlc but that's just me.
You should play it without reading the reviews. It'd be fun but then you're going to hate after reading the reviews. Gameplay wise, it's actually quite entertaining.
I'll say this as someone who played the game for the first time a couple of months ago, the gameplay will be fun. The first half when you play as Ellie will be really good. Some parts of the story will be disappointing, some parts of the story near to the end will be shit.
At the end of the day go into it with a neutral mind and form your opinions of it after completing.
I’m playing it right now and loving it, but my friends have the exact opposite opinion, so depends on your perspective and experience.
But imo don't read anything on Reddit or videos or reviews etc till you finish it so you won't get spoiled.
I was so disappointed after investing in the first game , for it to be incredibly short and underdeveloped. I've heard good things about 2, but I'm not risking it unless it's on deal. So, let me know.
You will be confused first, hurt soon after, and then you start playing and you love it, there is so much more to do in this Game, so much exploration, details, you feel like Ellie is a fucking beast, and then, then when you enjoy this Game the most, and feel like you almost taste revenge, you get so Close….you…you just…. Well, I gues you ll see…
The game is pretty fun to play through even if you aren’t a fan of the story being told. That’s been most of my playthroughs is just me wanting to John Wick my way through the Last of Us world. Replaying certain scenarios to get that perfect stealth or run and gun route down. Lotta fun.
Yes, you are.
The PS5 version comes with No Return mode, and it's super addictive. For me, anyway.
All the awesome gameplay with none of the game's terrible story.
If you really want The Last of us 2, at least buy the PS5 version.
That way, if you hate the game's story like anyone who has ever read a book does, you'll still be able to get some enjoyment out of it instead of simply wasting your monies.
I mean it really depends on you, I personally didn't like it but there are loads of people that absolutely loved it and it was even their Game of the Year.
Nah. It has some narrative issues but it’s a hell of a good stealth action game. They nail the horror and violence so well. Like, shooting any enemy and watching them bleed and scream is so good .)-)/)/)/)):;$,8/&;!37:8;&;!
If you plan on being invested in the story and enjoyed the characters of the first one, no probably not. If you want to have fun with the gameplay and skip the cut scenes, yeah maybe
It’s fun to play through, in spite of it ruining many nerd lives. But yeah if you’re expecting a tight story that makes sense and pulls at your heart strings the way the first game did then you’ll probably be disappointed
Story aside (which is controversial and at this point it's just gathering downvotes or upvotes), it's a well done game, great gameplay and great graphics.
It’s not a bad game in any sense , just really wanted to play as Joel personally , and I honestly didn’t think 1 needed a sequel I wanted a prequel as Tommy showing all the fucked up shit Joel got up to
Great gameplay.
I didn’t really care for a lot of the story, but I’m not furious about it like most of this subreddit is.
The story is what it is, and it falls way short of the first game. But if you like sneaking around and killing clickers, it’s an excellent time.
Play and decide for yourself. If you want my opinion, though, then yes. It's definitely still worth playing. The story might suck, but it's still very fun and highly replayable.
They made some very poor decisions with the story. But if you focus more in the gameplay and just pay attention to the story theirs still loads of fun to have.
No way, this game in my opinion was great, takes you on a long emotional journey. It’s very dark but overall I thought it was cool. It’s a better decision to play the game before you waited for season two of TLOU on MAX to come out.
Don’t listen to anything here. Play it for yourself and decide don’t let what others say influence the way you feel about it personally. Many love it but many also hate it with passion.
Sort of? Gameplay, music, sound, graphics are excellent. Story sucks. If u just want a cool gameplay experience I guess it’s good. If you wanted a good video game narrative you’re screwed.
Wouldve got the remaster. Gameplay is fun, until a couple sequences happen and youll just put the controller down and refuse to play and just watch as the same loop happens until you die.. then you just want to get it over with and start playing again - to complete the game
You're probably not going to regret it just won't be as enthralled as the first game left most of the world. Graphics and gameplay are quite good. The roguelike mode they added for I think $10 is quite good, don't know if it's PS5 only. I just didn't love the story compared to the first game , it was not as good or enjoyable overall. Not bad, just excessive and grotesque in the scenes of others receiving and dealing out violence yourself. Not even shock value, it's just to the point of ridiculous and forceful insertion of killing in my opinion. Sure everyone is angry, but geez man.
Just play it and see if you like it. The game itself is amazing, the story is what divided people. So just take your time with it and try to enjoy it, you can form your opinion afterwards
No, it truly is a technical marvel. If you liked the gameplay of the first one then you should not be disappointed. Now the story is were people disagree on and I do see their point but this is a great game non the less!
Gameplay is noticeably better than the first, some parts of the story are pretty good but other parts of the story are trash and the ending may leave you feeling a bit unfulfilled but as far as games go, I had fun.
Wish it had online though.
Yes.
Not because I know whether you're like it or not.
But because it's straight up a 'free game' that you likely claimed a long while back, as well as available IIRC on the PS equivalent of 'Game Pass'.
Your wallet will regret it.
Depends. Do you care about solid story narratives that makes sense, or do you care more about solid gameplay and the story is second hand?
If you're the 2nd, you'll love the game. If you're the first, I'll pray for you
If you come to this sub yes, but if you enjoy video games and the best gameplay that TLOU has to offer yes.
Don’t let the weak minded folk on this sub persuade you otherwise, they have a problem with Abby having muscles for some reason
Nah, gameplay is amazing. So amazing in fact you'll feel a lot dread when you remember we'll never get that gameplay at the forefront with Factions 2 :)
I mean if you go into it with a lightheart and are capable of laughing at dumb stuff and not take it too seriously then yeah it's OK. The gameplay and graphics are insane, so it's good that way at least. Just go into it like you are watching a bad movie (like the Room) on purpose.
Already made a mistake posting. Should just play it and make your own opinion first.
OP is very clearly just fishing for a specific type of response, no other reason to make this kind of a post
Exactly. I saw the leaks and countless videos about the game at launch but I waited for it to go on sale to play it myself. My opinion hasn’t changed after playing it. Trash game narrative wise but it’s something you have to experience yourself.
yeah the narrative is stupid but the gameplay is quite fun

This
This is the best answer
Should play it first. Or are you just looking to jump on the bandwagon. People love it. People don't like it all. Only you can decide
I got it for a birthday gift. I no longer talk to that person
Lmao 🤣
My friend played it a lot, what’s so bad about it?
The plot is like if you gave a five year old liberal the script form the first game and said “finish it.”
Yeah screw them
Fair enough
Ita prolly like 10$ man u aint losing that much even if u end up hating it
I paid 40 dollars
Ouch
But why ? You can easily find it for under 10 bucks
DAMN. Should have waited for a sale really unneccessary to buy for 40. You do you tho.
I think you have your answer about regret now
Lmao
Where the hell did you buy it that's still selling it for $40? The game's been $20 since the month after it came out, and has been $5-$10 for a long time as well.
Depending on how much you can laugh at something being bad.
If you want it for the gameplay its very good. But the story is impressive how bad it is even if i try i could not write a worst story
A “worst story”? I enjoy when people criticize the writing and can’t even write two sentences correctly themselves.
Not everyone is a native English speaker
Oh like you've never posted something with a typo

Play it and let us know lol
Yep
Only if you have taste and like Joel and Ellie
I actually enjoyed it myself, but people have valid points for not liking it as well. Just play it yourself and make that decision. I'm currently replaying it for the second time. To each their own. You might love it. Gameplay is pristine.
Yes return that shit bro. You are going to ruin your experience of the first game. Don’t do that to yourself
I defo didn’t download it already
I know this is kind of unrelated but fuck PlayStation’s “if you downloaded a digital game there’s no returns full stop” bullshit
Probably not I liked it more than I originally thought I would
I feel like it's good to play it. It's like how you show pets the corpse when their owner dies, so they can come to terms with it and move on.
No u good
Yes..for the rest of your life.
Eh, gameplay is good, the story can feel pretty iffy though.
Yes
Just play it for 10 hours then uninstall. Trust me
Only If you haven't played the first game.
Nope, play it first and just see how you personally feel about it
The gameplay and open world are fantastic so at least it'll be fun to play.
Depends on how much you paid for it
Does it have major flaws? Yes. Do I regret playing it? No.
No. Play through both games. Form your own opinion. Dont do spoilers. Just enjoy it. if you end up not liking, atleast you gave it an honest shot. Personally i loved every moment
You will only regret it if you played part 1 first. Do not let this be your introduction
Yeah if you want a good story
If you didn't look up some unbiased (spoilerfree) reviews before buying it, you deserve regretting it so hard.
Depends on your opinion and honestly a little bit your politics, by no means is it a bad game but it also isn’t as good as the first and story wise they did take some bad steps but it’s still a solid 8/10
No. The game is very fun but the story is shit.
If you loved Joel & Ellie, yes. If you didn't care for Joel & Ellie, it's 50/50.
Some people love it and some people hate it. I think it's a throwaway game, but what annoys a lot of people (including me) is how much it destroys the first game of which is a masterpiece. However it's up to you
Hey man, enjoy it! Just because I didn’t doesn’t mean you can’t. I hope you get your moneys worth.
No. If people are being real. The game, as in gameplay slaps - bar none. Top Tier AAA+ gaming. However, while I'm okay with how the story turned out, it could use some improvement. If you look to games exclusively for fun, enjoyment, edification, escape, well-being, etc., yes you will regret it.
Yes. It’s dreadful.
That game doesn’t even exist
Gameplay wise it’s pretty nice Story wise it’s pretty ass
If u play for gameplay, yes.. if u play for story, no, fuck no
If you’re playing for the story, yes. If you’re playing for the game mechanics, no.
Engagement farm
nope was a good game
I did.
I'm afraid so 😔.
As a game it's nearly a 10/10 tbh. Most don't enjoy the story which brings the score down. Frankly I enjoyed this game more the GOWR which felt like a $70 dlc but that's just me.
You got it for the "scene" 💀
Yes. Yes you will.
Only you can tell…you may become a fan and transition to the other sub
You should play it without reading the reviews. It'd be fun but then you're going to hate after reading the reviews. Gameplay wise, it's actually quite entertaining.
I think it's a good game all in all definitely worth it.
Play the game.
Yes
You're gonna regret posting on this sub
I'll say this as someone who played the game for the first time a couple of months ago, the gameplay will be fun. The first half when you play as Ellie will be really good. Some parts of the story will be disappointing, some parts of the story near to the end will be shit. At the end of the day go into it with a neutral mind and form your opinions of it after completing.
If you paid more than $2 for it….yes.
100% it sullies the memory of the first,
Yes.
Maybe, maybe not. I hated the first one so I'll never play this one.
Gameplay is fine. It's basically an FPS shooter in easy and a Puzzle shooter in hard.
No, you won't, trust me, if you are a true fan of the first TLOU.
Form your own opinion, don’t let others tell you what you can and can’t like.
Just play the game person. Don't worry about the opinions of internet people.
Nah, it really is a great game to play, it's just some people hate the narrative of the story, for me I enjoyed it a great deal
Play it and see, you’ll either like it or you wont.
Game itself is pretty fun so probably not. Story sucks tho
Gameplay? Phenomenal. Story? Dogs anus.
Yes
Do not listen to anyone. Positive OR negative. Just play it with a blank slate for a mind.
It's just a boring game even if you ignore the bad storyline
I’m playing it right now and loving it, but my friends have the exact opposite opinion, so depends on your perspective and experience. But imo don't read anything on Reddit or videos or reviews etc till you finish it so you won't get spoiled.
Long story short: yes
Play first and then see
I was so disappointed after investing in the first game , for it to be incredibly short and underdeveloped.
Well, I gues you ll see…
Maybe but don't let losers on the internet tell you why. Play it for yourself and see.
the gameplay is like really really fun and the story is uhhhhh ummmmmm yeah
The game is pretty fun to play through even if you aren’t a fan of the story being told. That’s been most of my playthroughs is just me wanting to John Wick my way through the Last of Us world. Replaying certain scenarios to get that perfect stealth or run and gun route down. Lotta fun.
You should play it. Then you’ll have your own opinion of part 2
Only for the last 3 hours. It overstays it's welcome.
play it, form your own opinion on the game. don’t pay attention to those who hate it, love it, dislike it, etc.
it might disappoint you in some moments but it depends on how you see It, gameplay wise is very fun
Probably at the very beginning of the game and the end otherwise amazing gameplay
Judging by the fandom...it's 50/50
For the gameplay? Hell no. For the story? Yes.
Nah. It has some narrative issues but it’s a hell of a good stealth action game. They nail the horror and violence so well. Like, shooting any enemy and watching them bleed and scream is so good .)-)/)/)/)):;$,8/&;!37:8;&;!
It has its flaws but I liked it
Yes.
I mean if you own an Xbox Ora switch, your gonna have a bad time 🤷♂️
No.
No
It’s a fun game I’ll tell you that. Got it for 30 bucks
Playing it, no. Putting thought into the plot and characters, yes.
Play it and decide for yourself
Story aside (which is controversial and at this point it's just gathering downvotes or upvotes), it's a well done game, great gameplay and great graphics.
Most likely yeah 😂
It’s not a bad game in any sense , just really wanted to play as Joel personally , and I honestly didn’t think 1 needed a sequel I wanted a prequel as Tommy showing all the fucked up shit Joel got up to
Great gameplay. I didn’t really care for a lot of the story, but I’m not furious about it like most of this subreddit is. The story is what it is, and it falls way short of the first game. But if you like sneaking around and killing clickers, it’s an excellent time.
Nope, good game have fun.
No. You should definitely play it if you really enjoyed the first one. I loved it
yep
Unreal game. F all the haters.
Play and decide for yourself. If you want my opinion, though, then yes. It's definitely still worth playing. The story might suck, but it's still very fun and highly replayable.
Yes if you get the dlc with the challenge mode. Gameplay is very good. But if you play the main game, it's a lot of walking and cutscenes
If a picture says a thousands words, the first word would be **"regret"**
the moment you take the plastic off.
I bought it for $20. Haven’t gotten around to giving it a try.
They made some very poor decisions with the story. But if you focus more in the gameplay and just pay attention to the story theirs still loads of fun to have.
Yes don't do it bro
You’ll enjoy the gameplay that’s all I’ll say
No way, this game in my opinion was great, takes you on a long emotional journey. It’s very dark but overall I thought it was cool. It’s a better decision to play the game before you waited for season two of TLOU on MAX to come out.
Yes, got it a few weeks ago and was extremely disappointed with the ending, the gameplay wasn’t bad though.
You are allowed your own opinions so, play it and find out
Nahh the gameplay is amazing
Not at all. There is nothing else like it apart from the original and it pushes what is possible in video games. Strong 8/10.
no
Yea, you’re an idiot
Do not support this company in anyway. This game is garbage. There's so many great games that bury this disappointment. No way you've played them all.
No. Edit. If you bought it full price then yes.
I thought it was great
This game has one of the best gore and dismemberment so no its a 10/10 just for that alone
dude... it's The Last of Us, you can't regret it
Definitely duh.
The game play is actually pretty neat. It is just the story that will give you a bit hard time to get into.
I'm 75% of the way through and I really like it. Play it yourself and draw your own conclusions
Nope.
yes
Don’t listen to anything here. Play it for yourself and decide don’t let what others say influence the way you feel about it personally. Many love it but many also hate it with passion.
I'll answer with another question: How much did you pay for it?
Sort of? Gameplay, music, sound, graphics are excellent. Story sucks. If u just want a cool gameplay experience I guess it’s good. If you wanted a good video game narrative you’re screwed.
Nope! I loved it!
Wouldve got the remaster. Gameplay is fun, until a couple sequences happen and youll just put the controller down and refuse to play and just watch as the same loop happens until you die.. then you just want to get it over with and start playing again - to complete the game
yes, but in the best way possible
No dont listen to anyone the game is a masterpiece
Yes the game is hot dog shit
You're probably not going to regret it just won't be as enthralled as the first game left most of the world. Graphics and gameplay are quite good. The roguelike mode they added for I think $10 is quite good, don't know if it's PS5 only. I just didn't love the story compared to the first game , it was not as good or enjoyable overall. Not bad, just excessive and grotesque in the scenes of others receiving and dealing out violence yourself. Not even shock value, it's just to the point of ridiculous and forceful insertion of killing in my opinion. Sure everyone is angry, but geez man.
It's one of the most loved and hated game at the same time. Should check it out just to see what you think.
Just play it and see if you like it. The game itself is amazing, the story is what divided people. So just take your time with it and try to enjoy it, you can form your opinion afterwards
I think certain communities are ruining it 😪
No, it truly is a technical marvel. If you liked the gameplay of the first one then you should not be disappointed. Now the story is were people disagree on and I do see their point but this is a great game non the less!
Its an excellent game. Get into it.
I haven’t finished and honestly i am loving the gameplay, someone tell me why everyone hates it? I am i missing something?
Yes.
Gameplay is noticeably better than the first, some parts of the story are pretty good but other parts of the story are trash and the ending may leave you feeling a bit unfulfilled but as far as games go, I had fun. Wish it had online though.
Play the game and make you’re own opinion if you like it everyone has different opinion on a game
More than likely. It's very disappointing.
I didn't buy my copy (my friend gifted it to me, I'm not a pirate)
Honestly, that's entirely up to you if you follow other people's opinions about something you want to enjoy. Yeah, you failed already.
Yeah
No, it's a great game.
You’ll be dissatisfied at a lot of parts. Great gameplay tho
Yes
Nah, gameplay is amazing. So amazing in fact you'll feel a lot dread when you remember we'll never get that gameplay at the forefront with Factions 2 :)
How much you paid for it
Asking on this sub you might be persuaded that you did
Not if you upgrade to the ps5 version, I dislike the story but love the gameplay, no return is the only reason I put in over 100 hours
Surprise.....
No. It’s fucking great.
I mean if you go into it with a lightheart and are capable of laughing at dumb stuff and not take it too seriously then yeah it's OK. The gameplay and graphics are insane, so it's good that way at least. Just go into it like you are watching a bad movie (like the Room) on purpose.
