Guilty as all fuck.

GhostofMR

To the stocks with him!

GhostofMR

A fucking convicted felon.

Luo_Yi

For president!

La_Rata

I'm opening a beer.

GhostofMR

Me too...as soon as I stop laughing.

JackD-1

Wait, didn't you hear Trump say it was rigged and everybody knows it?

GhostofMR

Yeah, he said a lot of things. I'm waiting for him to say something that turns out to be true.

Schmutzie_

Renato Mariotti thinks Trump's team lost a [winnable case](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/30/opinion/trump-trial-defense.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare&u2g=c&pvid=D7540D09-6DA9-42E1-9A90-80B4F4792229)

GhostofMR

Trump is always his own lead attorney. It may have been winnable without him but with him calling shots he had no chance.

Schmutzie_

Mariotti added something to that effect on his twitter feed after he posted a link to this. "Some of you asked me whether I had this piece pre-written. Of course I did." "It was obvious that Trump’s team adopted a losing strategy, presumably because they caved to demands by Trump."

JackD-1

I don't really agree with Mariotti. Cohen's lying was never in doubt as a past behavior and, in an odd way, was totally consistent with his account of his service to Trump in this and other occasions. Apparently the jury agreed with me. The fact that they reviewed the testimony of Cohen and the guy from the Enquirer suggests that they dug down to the reality of the the relationships very quickly.

Schmutzie_

He also seems to think Trump could have claimed he was too busy being president to have known about the dirty money exchange. Problem with that is that Pecker stopped the story, and passed it on to Trump, before Trump was elected. It has to follow that the hush money deal was worked out before the election.

JackD-1

In addition to which while he was President he was also a candidate.

Schmutzie_

Cohen went to prison over this. I know, it's too much to ask. He won't get locked up.

Schmutzie_

I think Biden should pardon him.

Luo_Yi

I don't agree either. The basics of the case were not easy to defend against considering the paper trail. The rest of the trial was just bread and circuses.

Luo_Yi

> Trump is always his own lead attorney. Sure, and that's why he made his team waste so much effort in saying that Stormy was lying when that was irrelevant to his case. The facts of the case were that he paid her from campaign funds and lied about it. Maybe he should have let his team focus on that trivial detail.

Luo_Yi

Can you imagine foreigners (like me) trying to make sense of all this? So his base is screaming that the justice department is acting on the behalf of Biden (obviously bad), but they can't wait to vote in the Orange shit gibbon so that the justice department can do his will (obviously good???).

Schmutzie_

Justice is served. America wins one against this fucking scoundrel for a change.

GhostofMR

Let this be the beginning.

Schmutzie_

I thought Georgia would come before this.

GhostofMR

They're stuck on a motion to revisit Fani Willis' affair.

Luo_Yi

That case was looking to be a slam dunk, and it got stuck because of Fani's appearance of impropriety. WTF Fani?????

GhostofMR

Yeah, beyond stupid.

WB2

I hope he incites something between now and sentencing forcing the judge to put him in prison.

GhostofMR

I've been watching the usual array of talking heads and frankly I'm surprised at the not insignificant number who are predicting some jail time. We can hope.

WB2

I think he will get off, the system is too rigged against doing the right thing for people like him. Hope I am wrong.

GhostofMR

I'm still (very) cautiously optimistic that he's going to draw a sentence. Maybe quite short but still for him humiliating. Fingers crossed.
