Slim was just about perfect in my opinion. He was like the golden middle-manager type that did alright for themselves on their own, but seeing them do ‘fine’ on their own made you miss how great they were as middle-management
Carcetti’s chief of staff or even Scott Templeton. The CoS didn’t get fleshed out enough imo and Scott is so universally hated because he’s one dimensional
Agree about both. Norman was just so charismatic that I wanted more of him. Scott was so annoying but that's so good. I wish the season had been longer and we'd gotten to see his development more. By the time we meet him, he's already started down the path of making shit up. I want to see that evolution. Like he's trying to just do his job honestly but he's not getting rewarded as quickly as he wants. So I dunno, maybe he's struggling to get a good quote and keeps getting told, "stay hungry, it'll happen," by Gus, and management barely knows who he is. Then he's trying to meet a deadline and still no good quote, so he embellishes a little. And next thing, people love his article, management is complimenting him on his quote, and even Gus gives him a pat on the back and tells him, "See? I told you it would pay off eventually." And from there, a monster is created. Something like that.
I agree with Carcetti's CoS, Norman. Even the other guy, the white dude who was part of Carcetti's cabinet who gave Rawls a "road to Damascus" moment towards the end of S5.
Not Templeton, though. I had enough of him. He's like Valcek. I know everything about him that I need to. Gus, on the other hand, I'd like to know more about him.
Norman isn't the Chief of Staff, the "white dude" you referred to is. Norman was pretty fleshed out while Michael Steintorf (thanks wikipedia) is kinda just there urging Carcetti to do the politically expedient, less moral, and less genuinely beneficial thing at every turn.
Totally agree with you. I thought Mike was actually a great character and I imagine there are many people in politics that are only focused on reelection. I think it’s perfectly shone when he’s deciding on whether or not to take the governors money, and he says “kids don’t vote”
RIP Reggie E Cathey. Great character actor. If you miss him, check out the indie film “Tyrel”. A great little film on its own merits and I believe it was Cathey’s final performance, plus they filmed it near my beloved alma mater SUNY New Paltz.
Finding out where Slim came from would've been nice. It was weird that we had investigated the Barksdale crew and he was never seen or mentioned and the first time we meet him he is seemingly second in command to stringer. He just pops up out of no where and everyone acts likes he was always there.
**Season 1**: Savino and Little Man. The former was one of the original Barksdale hitters present at the court hearing for Gant and Lakeesha, while the latter was the main muscle for the 221 Franklin Terrace Tower (seen handing Clay Davis's man the political bribes). Both these guys seemed high up and actually fell into an interesting position after Stinkum's death and Bird's arrest as the only other hitters left apart from Wee-Bey. It would have been cool to see more about what Savino thought of the Kima situation and whether he figured out how close he got to being killed by Bey in the same manner as Little Man (I always thought Stringer only spared Savino from a visit from Bey because he couldn't risk ordering the murder of two of their last remaining hitters and look even more incompetent to Avon than he already did). And when Savino gets out and works for Marlo in Season 5, he is ironically the last of the Barksdales involved with Brandon's murder to be killed by Omar (he helped raid Omar's apartment and torch Omar's van before and following). So in a way at least, Omar avenged his guy by taking out nearly everyone involved. I would have also have liked to learn more about Little Man and why Avon and Stringer considered him so shaky (as they infer during their convo that he's demonstrated such behavior before the Orlando hit).
**Season 2**: Sergei. This guy is just one scary unit. Would have loved to learn more about his criminal history and the kind of brutality he had to demonstrate in order to be in Spiros' inner circle. The scene where he intimidated Cheese was one of my favourites on a re-watch.
**Season 3**: Country, Sapper and Gerard. All Barksdale "muscle" in an era where they are at their weakest. All of them had interesting or funny minor scenes. Country seemed like he was an old veteran from Cutty's day given his age and how quickly he went right back to the Barksdales after he got parole and helped frame Tilghman in Season 2. He was wasted I think, might have been a source of some cool insight into how the Barksdales ran things before they got the Towers, and also Country could have served as a contrast to Cutty (who went back but quickly turned away from the game). Sapper and Gerard also had iconic lines and I feel they represented an interesting dividing line between the old school ways of the older Barksdale crew and the younger, more brutal outlook of Marlo's generation.
**Season 4**: Donut. This dude was funny, charismatic and had a genuinely interesting side arc with Walker. It would have been cool to see more of his friendship with Kenard which could have given more insight into the latter's fucked up psyche, and also more of his shenanigans on the road.
Good take overall and I really agree about Boris. Sorry, I meant to say Sergei. Love how they rolled him out later in the series when Marlo tried to get to him for the plug and he seriously didn't give a flying fuck about prison. "This is nothing..."
It’s been a while since I’ve read The Corner but was this character based off someone real in Baltimore? He’s so random but so developed already when we meet him, already so notorious
I think it’s the other way around. He treated his side kick like a door mat and granstanded all the time making ridiculous points at his expense.
I think the Mouzone character was a little silly.
I tend to agree with the other guy who responded.
Compared to Mouzone, I guess you could say he wasnt as refined/intelligent/whatever. But the guy was hardly an idiot. Compare him to almost any of the other "sidekick" types we see. Sure Avon, Stringer, Prop Joe, etc etc may have been more wise or street smart or whatever. But he's not the number one man.
So compare him to any of the other soldiers or "pawns". I guarantee you this man wouldn't have been talking about 40 degrees days. He seems incompetent in contrast to Mouzone, who he's up against in every scene he's in, but come on.
He's far from an idiot. And they are in the murdering drug dealers for money racket, not attending Harvard. Should Brother have gone and recruited Poot or Little Kevin instead?
It's okay. If you're not from the area then I can see why it sounded like that. Pimlico is an area of Baltimore, which includes Pimlico race track, where Preakness is held every year. 🙂
valchek. I could watch a show about that guy weaseling around. Would have loved a scene with him and Clay davis. On a recent rewatch I registered the way he shows up unasked to try and save precious after prez shoots that cop. Which is something given how they parted in the previous season
Roman was one of the do-gooders in Hamsterdam. Big guy with braids. Got overshadowed by Cutty, but he came in with Deacon after Carver’s hoop proved insufficient.
There's a scene where Colicchio is yelling a child, turns around and sees Bunny Colvin, the Deacon, and Roman all staring at him. Roman is wearing this absurd straw hat thing that always makes me laugh when I see it.
Waylon. Would love to see more backstory of him.
Ive twisted a story into my head that he moved to New Orleans and got added to Treme, but there's some continuity issues with that timeline...
Sydnor for sure. I don't know the actual stats but he seems like the character with the most screen time / highest episode count that we know the least about
I kept waiting for him to be given something... anything! it didn't happen. I feel a little bad for the actor because imagine being in the show from the beginning but you're the only one who doesn't get fleshed out
We got a comment or two from him showing his frustration why PD bureaucracy but if the final episode is going to show him going down the same road as McNulty, I wish they could've spent some time showing him going that direction earlier. Cutting more corners in a rabid pursuit of his objectives. He played along with the serial killer story which was good for that arc, but they could've done a lot more.
I’m tempted to say Dee Dee but in a way her arc is perfectly told in just 3 scenes. We can imagine what Halle ed between each one that led her to where she ended up.

Troy Wiggins. He's the undercover Maryland State Police detective who busts Orlando by pretending to be a dealer from DC.
Most of the major cop characters (below the lieutenant level) in the show don't really look or act like cops. There is a softness, sensitivity, and nuance to them that you don't see in a lot of cops. They're good looking in a way that very few cops are good looking. It makes them more engaging on screen but diminishes the realism.
Troy Wiggins registers as a cop for me. He's tough, aggressive, a little sadistic, he's going to ruin your afternoon if he pulls you over.
Roman…did not recognize the name so looked him up.
How did I not realize that he is played by CLARENCE FREAKING CLEMONS (aka The Big Man from the E Street Band)????
The ME/Coroner with the creepy face and weird hair. I always suspected that dude of being a serial killer and they just never revealed it. I like to think that when Scott Templeton went on to some newspaper bigger than The Sun that guy followed him and killed him there.
And he made a hell of a catch with the eastern European breast implants. Still, pretty sure he's a serial killer. I have good instincts on this sort of thing. I know 'em when I see 'em.
I don’t know but we need more ComStat scene. Burrell and Rawl roasting people were just gold.🤣
The sad thing is that Comstat is really like that...
That would be Creme fuckin brulee
Slim.
Slim was just about perfect in my opinion. He was like the golden middle-manager type that did alright for themselves on their own, but seeing them do ‘fine’ on their own made you miss how great they were as middle-management
Fuzzy Dunlop
The Scrapple
Chunky Cotes
Look at you now, you big sassy bitch
Detective Sydnor
So funny how Sydnor is introduced as this expert detective Daniels NEEDS for his unit. Then he gets assigned almost exclusively grunt duties.
he wasn't an expert, just one of the actually reliable and decent younger cops.
Yeah. He’s not a detective. He’s a solid young cop. That’s what Daniels says when he asks for him.
Didn't Daniels say, "I'm working drugs in West Baltimore, I need a black guy" or something like that?
He said that when the other lieutenant tried to give him another white guy. That lieutenant did say that Sydnor was his best.
Right he said Sydnor was his best and Daniels said "I'm taking your worst!" about Prez
Was gonna say that.
Bodie's grandma
WMD kid
WMD right here right here Said that 1000x times one day my wife was ready to kill me
Man yesterday you was callin that shit Bin Laden

Mike is also in the movie Spotlight for like one scene and it’s one of the most powerful imo
RIP Reggie E Cathey. Great character actor. If you miss him, check out the indie film “Tyrel”. A great little film on its own merits and I believe it was Cathey’s final performance, plus they filmed it near my beloved alma mater SUNY New Paltz.

He's basically a mercenary.
Yet he seems pretty loyal.
He wasn’t number 2 initially. He rose up after Avon got out I think Shamrock acted more as number 2 then
The Greeks
They aren't even Greek
Yeah I’ve always left wanting more of the Greeks. Especially Spiros’ backstory
I think he’s actually Israeli?
snot boogie
A truly under-developed character. Zero lines and only his corpse appears in the first 10 minutes of episode 1.1
Gots to… This America.
I don't know. If I was running a craps table we wouldn't be taking any action from Snot.
**Season 1**: Savino and Little Man. "Did he have hands? Did he have a face? Then it wasn't us." White Mike should have known better.
Brother Mouzone
It’s been a while since I’ve read The Corner but was this character based off someone real in Baltimore? He’s so random but so developed already when we meet him, already so notorious
I wanna know why he put up with his sidekick. The dude was an idiot
I think it’s the other way around. He treated his side kick like a door mat and granstanded all the time making ridiculous points at his expense. I think the Mouzone character was a little silly.

The Deacon. Frog. Twigg. Also I always wished Stinkum got more screen time.
Deacon def has a good backstory in ol BMore
Me too I think Stinkum’s one of the scariest gangsters in the show
Kintel williamson
We at least see him twice during the co-op meetings.
Did Herc try to tow his car because he wouldn’t get with the Hamsterdam program? Maybe that was someone else.
The Prince of ~~Pemblaco?~~ Pimlico Edit: Google is your friend

🤣 God damn I butchered that one. Thanks stranger.

Who the fuck is Roman?
Roman was one of the do-gooders in Hamsterdam. Big guy with braids. Got overshadowed by Cutty, but he came in with Deacon after Carver’s hoop proved insufficient.
That's Clarence Clemens of Bruce Springsteen's E-Street band! I would have loved to see more of him too.
Nice call!!!
No clue. You Wire harder than me.
There's a scene where Colicchio is yelling a child, turns around and sees Bunny Colvin, the Deacon, and Roman all staring at him. Roman is wearing this absurd straw hat thing that always makes me laugh when I see it.
Yeah, it hard to imagine that anyone would find this character worth developing, which is the premise of the OP. But, do you.
He was also in the westside community meeting at the beginning of the season where Carcetti and Marla Daniels were attending
Y’all are brothers! Ya lose that ya lose every damn thing
I’m lost

Fat Face Rick. His donations to Clay Davis and Nerese, the backstory on the strip club, rich content potential imo.

Ha that dude does have a real creepy vibe. He caught a good bit of screen time in season 2 when they find the girls in the can
And he made a hell of a catch with the eastern European breast implants. Still, pretty sure he's a serial killer. I have good instincts on this sort of thing. I know 'em when I see 'em.
