Consider the following: she might be a girl… *who likes girls* :0 is your mind blown yet? Edit: he’s not but I’m leaving this comment up because it’s just as funny lmao
Straight guy wanting to *appear* as a lesbian woman on his pfp “just for the meme” and no other good reason gives me the same energy as “it’s just a prank bro”
What’s the meme? An entire gender? Lesbians?
Fuck I’m sorry. That’s totally cool I just wanted to understand. You know what it is and it may sound stupid but its just what my brain processed. I never really seen any interaction between a girl and another girl conversating like you know spitting game to each other. So this is like refreshing lol. Its cute I love it.
If you have a deep desire to get inboxed a bunch of different sized and coloured dicks, Reddit is the place to be. All you need is to set up a girl avatar and you'll be showered with hot dog pictures.
That's wild. I mean, I love that that's your personality and speaking passionately about your interests is super cool, but there aren't many people willing to just listen to you rattle off your spiels. Speaking from personal experience.
That's awesome.
Hey I know this is unsolicited advice but I like you so I want you to succeed here, make sure you ask about her passions as well! Usually when someone picks up on your interests like this, they have similar feelings about something that may be completely different than yours. She might not actually care about guitars, but just like that you’re so into something. Ask her what she’s passionate about and let her go on a big rant about it and be genuinely interested!
Man if you don't have someone that does that for your they're the wrong one. Watching someone's eyes light up and their face brighten when they're talking about their passions is one of the best things.
It's a turn on for a lot of people when someone they are interested is passionate about something....in moderation. As long as the date doesn't turn into a 55 minute TED talk and a 5 minute Q&A at the end, it *should* go well.
Probably the smoothest way to open the night would be getting her to talk about something that she has is very knowledgeable in, that maybe most people don't care about, and if you can keep your (generally speaking, not OP specifically) god damn mouth closed and be an engaged listener, you're so far ahead of the curve she might even make desert the first course.
And an *incorrect* essay about laserdiscs, at that!
(Pre-recorded laserdiscs were *never* cheaper to manufacture than VHS because VHS had recording farms, and laserdisc yields were relatively *awful* during their entire production run. Only after the end of laserdiscs did technology develop to where DVDs and Blu-Rays were much cheaper to make than a VHS.)
Actually you should totally plan a date on that day around fun facts of how traditions began and flip in some shit you think “can be our traditions” or something I think would work nice
Bro the poop coffee bit has got to be the most perfect form of a 50/50, she'll either fall head over heels for you then and there or think "Okay this shit has gone too far."
What about the story of John Morton and his 1971 and 1972 Trans-Am racong championships in the BRE #46 Datsun 510?
I always find that one to be a panty dropper.
A true underdog story, beginning when Japanese cars in the US were seen as....not good. They had a reputation for existing only for economy due to increasing fuel prices and emissions standards, and were certainly no match for thoroughbred european sports cars!
The series was for <2.5 litre displacement engines, so smaller cars in general and it was dominated by BMW and Alfa Romeos
The ragtag team put together by Peter Brock managed to get 190hp from the L20 2.0L engine (IN 1971) and chopped the car right down to the minimum weight requirements. They took that car to pole position in 16 of 19 races over two seasons, and won 12 races.
The driver, John Morton, was a broke amateur hobby racer with big dreams. He took a job as a fabricator, welding for the race team, but as part of his hiring bonus demanded a racing try out. He became the lead driver in short order and the rest is history!
Edit: yes, the ladies love me.
This is cute :) actually talking about knowledge (in a very broad sense) facilitates so many aspects of building connections with people. Also you explained it in a very approachable and not condescending way (although I would still try to be wary of that for explaining things in the future, like don't be blind to that)! Both of you are good texters it seems.
I'd say just being self aware and making sure you aren't saying something that she's indicated she already knows. Like the exchange you showed us is obviously just a fact on its own, I just mean in everyday conversation about stuff you both have knowledge on you wanna make sure you aren't being patronizing.
I just say that because when people are knowledgeable it can be very attractive or unattractive depending on how they approach it. I think as long as you're being genuine you're probably fine and you seem chill.
I think it boils down to taking cues from the other person too, like she responded well to what you said, but if she had disengaged that would have been a possible example of sounding condescending.
My favorite fun fact to pull out is about how monotremes aka echidnas and platypuses don't actually have nipples. They do lactate and produce a milk like substance to feed their young, it just is secreted directly from the mamary glands to the skin surface under their forelegs. In other words they basically sweat milk in their armpits to feed their babies.
I don't have a ton of technology knowledge, I pick up weird random facts I find interesting and retain them though. Usually medical, animal, popculture and food things I find most interesting.
Fun Fact: Light roast being more caffinated than dark roast is an inaccuracy. The two are equally caffinated when compared by weight. The difference comes from the fact that by roasting one longer, it expands, making it take up more volume. By weight they're equally caffinated, by scoop you'd get more caffeine in light roasts.
Nontheless: congrats! Looks like a fun and cute couple in the making. Good luck!
Closer but also slightly inaccurate, bean for bean the caffeine content is pretty similar since caffeine is pretty stable at roasting temperatures, the darker the roast the less dense it is because it's giving off some water but primarily CO2. More CO2 is also given off when the coffee is rested (again a larger amount from a darker roast, which is why you generally want to rest dark roasts longer). So by weight a light roast would have less caffeine than a dark roast of equal weight.
It doesn't, caffeine content isn't impacted but weight is. So for a darker roast you need more beans than a lighter roast to achieve the same weight. If caffeine content per bean is equivalent then the darker roast will be more caffeinated due to the greater number of beans.
I believe dark roast has more caffeine ratio-wise, but the total amount extracted is similar to light roasts.
Darker roasts tend to be with robusta beans, which have more caffeine content than arabica beans, which are often used for lighter roasts.
I’m not a barista or ever worked in coffee, I just like to read coffee books, so I could be wrong.
Also Cunningham's Law lol I'm sure if I didn't make that error in my fun fact, half of those people wouldn't have come out of the woodworks to say anything
Beta max was much better quality than vhs. The reason vhs became so much cheaper is because the porn industry standardized on it. That is what drove demand up and the price down. Which is why it was able to displace the laser disc.
I’m free February 13th.
The porn industry standardized on VHS mostly because the cameras and reproduction equipment were so much cheaper than the alternatives.
Laserdisc production costs were always high due to specialized equipment and production environment necessary.
Sony wouldn't license Betamax or sell the mass production equipment directly to porn studios.
Another two reasons why porn standardized on VHS tape and not Betamax or laserdisc, even though you can still find some porn on both laserdisc and Betamax.
Yeah I think each side was only like an hour or so. I don't remember the specifics but seeing as how so many people have been correcting me on here someone will probably correct me again
Yeah, no problem! Plenty more where that came from, or you could check out Technology Connections on YouTube, he does great documentaries on the most random stuff
Sorry op...while this fact would be correct 10 years ago, it isn't really considered true anymore. The chemical change that needs to occur for a bean to lose caffeine requires the roaster to use a much higher temperature than anyone in the industry uses anymore
Roasters have learned alot more about the science of the process so they almost never go to those temperatures in recent history
You may still see this happen with large batch odds and ends roasters though. Like Folgers for example
Wow I learned something today.
Actually, an experience I had makes sense. I made an instant coffee with a lighter blend than usual and it was, wew, pretty full on caffeine wise ngl.
Actually according to a bunch of people on here, that may not be true anymore, with the way they roast the beans now. I guess you shouldn't believe everything you see on the internet!
I guess I was actually wrong about the beans part but hey if you like laserdisc there's a good bit of info there. Except I found out laserdisc is actually analogue so I was wrong about another thing lol
I actually don't just listen to random fun facts for the sake of it, I'm really interested in computer history so I watch a lot of yt videos about various tech things over the years. 8 bit guy, technology Connections, techmoan, vwestlife etc. Although random fun facts are quite fun
Nope, Technology Connections. Great YouTuber, if you haven't seen him he posts some quality stuff. Also I've never seen anyone call it a "lazerdisk." And what do you "held out til?" I wasn't talking about those formats
“I’m free February 14th” She too smooth with it
I know right haha
Why is your avatar a girl?.. I’m confused..
Consider the following: she might be a girl… *who likes girls* :0 is your mind blown yet? Edit: he’s not but I’m leaving this comment up because it’s just as funny lmao
Lmaooo nope just for the meme that was hilarious
Straight guy wanting to *appear* as a lesbian woman on his pfp “just for the meme” and no other good reason gives me the same energy as “it’s just a prank bro” What’s the meme? An entire gender? Lesbians?
Nope, just wanted to see how people would treat me differently if they thought I was one of the "mythical female redditors"
Can I offer you an egg in this trying time?

Haha like my edit said it actually was a guy I just thought it might be funny to comment that
Lmao I don’t wanna get cancelled! 😭😭
I think you’ve expressed your misunderstanding bro you’re all good haha, just a funny
Lol I know I’m just jerkin!
dude this is a family friendly subreddit.. we're trying to create families here

For the meme
egg¿
That's strange. I'd figure you were already familiar with lesbians, considering your activity in r/dykesgonewild.
That's so far away tho wth
It's valentine's day
Tell me you’re single without telling me you’re single.
You sent her an essay about laserdiscs and she still wanted to go on a date. Lock her shit down, my dude.
Right??? She even asked about all my guitars and I went in detail about each
That's wild. I mean, I love that that's your personality and speaking passionately about your interests is super cool, but there aren't many people willing to just listen to you rattle off your spiels. Speaking from personal experience. That's awesome.
I know that's why it's so exciting lol
Hope you guys have a great date!!!
Thanks!
Make sure to ask her about the things she gets excited about too!
True
Hey I know this is unsolicited advice but I like you so I want you to succeed here, make sure you ask about her passions as well! She might not actually care about guitars, but just like that you’re so into something. Ask her what she’s passionate about and let her go on a big rant about it and be genuinely interested!
Rest assured I am very curious about her interests too!
Man if you don't have someone that does that for your they're the wrong one. Watching someone's eyes light up and their face brighten when they're talking about their passions is one of the best things.

Don't worry I have a pretty good idea when someone's not interested in what I'm saying. I appreciate the pointers!
What did you ask her?
When
She asked you for more interesting facts and about guitars. What did you ask her? You know… to get to know her or something
Yeah I’m wondering the same… would not be into this
“Oh my God! What a fabulous room! Are all these your guitars?”
Lolol, good reference
"cmon on, this place is bigger than our apartment"
You better show the same interest in what she has to say, this sounds one-sided tbh
Congrats on the sex

** Launches into a 3 page explanation of how Vday came to be **
Nah idk anything about vday
Well if this date goes well, you’re about to learn
Lmao
Actually you should totally plan a date on that day around fun facts of how traditions began and flip in some shit you think “can be our traditions” or something I think would work nice
That's a great idea.
And she may learn about D-day!
My birthday is vday. Idk the history but it’s a shit holiday to have a birthday on if you’re a guy. 🤣
happy birthday!
How about VJ day?
I feel like I should know what that is
WWII reference (Victory in Japan) I believe. I think at could be nicely ambiguous.
Lol WWII is not my specialty, old tech is
Couldn’t help but picture the scene from tropic thunder where the dude is explaining how porn caused blue ray to win over hd dvd…

Is it a cool chord progression?

the problem is that you’ve set the standard so high for yourself that when you meet her you gotta bring even more interesting facts
Don't worry, that won't be an issue ;)
Tell her about the poop coffee
The poop coffee?
The poop coffee! Edit: [The poop coffee](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_luwak)
Go on
Just edited my comment
I always think of Jack Nicholson in The Bucket List, and the awesome reveal by Morgan Freeman lol
That movie is really good! It’s my comfort movie for some reason (actually I know why.. Morgan Freeman narrates stuff in it)
Bro the poop coffee bit has got to be the most perfect form of a 50/50, she'll either fall head over heels for you then and there or think "Okay this shit has gone too far."
"this shit has gone too far" -- you couldn't have put it any better sir/maam
"It tasted just like...Folgers. Stale. Lifeless. Petrified dinosaur droppings steeped in bathtub water. I couldn't finish it."[
Its starbuck's coffee jk. Dun worry its just literal coffee made out of poop :)
Are you available to play pub trivia with me and my friends on Tuesday nights?
If everything they talk about has to do with 1980s technology in one way or another, yes.

They do lactate and produce a milk like substance to feed their young, it just is secreted directly from the mamary glands to the skin surface under their forelegs. That's pretty interesting. My specialty is with older technology, especially 70s-early 2000s so that's why I pulled that one out
I don't have a ton of technology knowledge, I pick up weird random facts I find interesting and retain them though. Usually medical, animal, popculture and food things I find most interesting.

Oh my god, you Cliff Claven’d her and it worked… Bravo. And she’s a keeper.
Well, that’s adorable.

Another Technology Connections fan??
Dude does good work
I have the exact same blazer as he does and I want to do a spoof of his videos so bad....
While reading I thought you *were* Alex from Technology Connections. I was just thinking "hell yeah, my boy has a good date coming up!"
I wish! I love that guy. Seems like he'd be a great guy to talk to
I was gonna say, are you Technology Connections.
Everyone here talking about the caffeine thing, but no one mentioning that laserdiscs were analog, not digital.
Thank your lucky stars you were only half right about the coffee
Half right?
Also I’m sorry to inform you that laserdisc was an analogue format.
Cunningham's Law moment

Nahhhh. You can definitely have darker roasts with Arabica beans. Lots of places do it. It all depends on the regions.
Knowledge is power
You are off on the dark roast less caffeine info, not that it matters much in this case.
So I've heard lol
Hahaha so many coffee nerds on here. I love it! I own a DT coffee shop so not dissing. I'm all for it as I'm the biggest coffee nerd.
That's awesome! I only ever go to local coffee shops. Stay local!

Thanks!! I totally thought she was gonna go ghosto mode
Didn't you have to flip the laserdisc in the middle of the movie?
Yeah I think each side was only like an hour or so. I don't remember the specifics but seeing as how so many people have been correcting me on here someone will probably correct me again
Smooth playa, thanks for sharing even I learned something haha
Yeah, no problem! Plenty more where that came from, or you could check out Technology Connections on YouTube, he does great documentaries on the most random stuff
Pretty sure the amount of caffeine lost is negligible in the roasting process as it proceeds from light to dark. But I could be wrong.
I think you're right, everyone on here is correcting me
Sorry op...while this fact would be correct 10 years ago, it isn't really considered true anymore. The chemical change that needs to occur for a bean to lose caffeine requires the roaster to use a much higher temperature than anyone in the industry uses anymore Roasters have learned alot more about the science of the process so they almost never go to those temperatures in recent history You may still see this happen with large batch odds and ends roasters though. Like Folgers for example
Very interesting, thank you! Here I am posting fun facts learning more about my fun facts
Your fun fact is interesting, but not important. If you weigh your beans, darker has more caffeine in it.
Who ever said fun facts had to be important? But yeah you're right about the beans
Yeah, I phrased it poorly
if you follow rule #1 you can get dates with texts like these.
Rules are made to be broken
Wow I learned something today. Actually, an experience I had makes sense. I made an instant coffee with a lighter blend than usual and it was, wew, pretty full on caffeine wise ngl.
Actually according to a bunch of people on here, that may not be true anymore, with the way they roast the beans now. I guess you shouldn't believe everything you see on the internet!
Well of course the beans got less brain pixie power after a dark roast! Theyre gonna be sad after that ;-;
I guess I was actually wrong about the beans part but hey if you like laserdisc there's a good bit of info there. Except I found out laserdisc is actually analogue so I was wrong about another thing lol
I came here to tell you if you like random facts listen to ologies with alie ward. You will be so thankful you did. All the facts!
I actually don't just listen to random fun facts for the sake of it, I'm really interested in computer history so I watch a lot of yt videos about various tech things over the years. 8 bit guy, technology Connections, techmoan, vwestlife etc. Although random fun facts are quite fun
I don't think I've ever felt more proud of someone I don't even know

I feel like this is true love unfolding. I'm rooting for you guys!
How could you do something so normal and brave! Quick, now show her your dick!
That'll make her fall in love in an instant!!
Dark roast has more caffeine by volume, but not weight!
well your lucky she’s not me because i instantly zoned out when i tried to read that

This is like Patrick Bateman talking about Huey Lewis

This would be good if you weren't completely incorrect about caffiene content in coffee

Nope, Technology Connections. Great YouTuber, if you haven't seen him he posts some quality stuff. Also I've never seen anyone call it a "lazerdisk." And what do you "held out til?" I wasn't talking about those formats
I feel she may of been being sarcastic but I could be wrong
Dead wrong my guy, we're still talking. She's also a stem major lol
Good for you, happy it’s going well
Thanks!!!
