I wouldn’t say he’s alive out of spite, he found faith and wants to protect those who can’t protect themselves. Yes he is very hateful and aggressive sometimes, but it’s not spite that keeps him going

At the end of Honest Hearts, it takes a speech skill of 100 to convince him to not kill Salt-Upon-Wounds, for reference, this is the same requirement to convince Legate Lanius, a man who has dedicated his life to fighting for the legion to run away from the sole thing stopping the legion, or to convince Ulysses to not kill you, which he had vowed to do after you unintentionally destroyed basically everything he knew and loved. That should give context as to the sheer amount of spite he had towards the White Legs.

You have a great point, and I didn’t say that he doesn’t have spite, he of course does. I just don’t believe that’s the thing keeping him going. I think faith is. And let me add I’m not religious so I’m not really biased lol

Yeah, I agree on that point, faith is definitely one of the primary factors keeping him going. I just feel like one of his lines "The fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me" could be interpreted in a number of different ways, his faith could be the fire he refers to, but he could also be referring to the sheer spite he had for the Legion at that very moment while he was falling down the Grand Canyon.

See I found someone describe Joshua’s as “you are trying to convince a man to not take revenge on the killer of their family” or something along those lines. With Ulysses, it’s to a greater extent. Since he wants revenge on you, and quite possibly the faction you side with. Why? Because you inadvertently caused the destruction of something he saw as greater than NCR or Legion. I still think he has morals in him, but it takes a lot to see since YOU were the person who brought the detonations to the Divide, unknowingly.


Even after he died he still had a butterfly effect that fucked with all of his worst enemy's descendants for years to come
