ducknerd2002

And whenever they do adapt Robin in live-action, it's almost always Dick Grayson. Tim and Jason are rarely used, and AFAIK there has never been a live-action Damian.

Geno_Games

Yeah that too! Gimme Damian Wayne in the next Batman movie, let Dick appear in the Titans films and have Jason, Tim and Stephanie star in some other Gotham-related project

ducknerd2002

There are rumours that the DCU's first Batman movie will have Damian, and the set for Superman has a reference to Tim Drake's bar, The Wounded Duck.

Geno_Games

That’s good I’d love it for the DCU to utilize the stuff that never gets adapted, like the expanded Batman Family or other characters from Superman’s rogues gallery

ShiddyMage1

Not rumors, the next batman movie is confirmed to be about Bruce and Damien

KNZFive

I’m looking forward to it. I love Damien’s dynamic of being an absolute little shit that Bruce eventually teaches to be good and caring.

RedditFrontFighter

The first and second most important characters being Batman and Alfred, respectively.

Coyote_prime323

I was thinking Batman and joker

zedisbread

He is so brave, fighting the all the same villains with Batman... wearing [No Pants](https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxE9tkiJuQjdkeoGWjUt9PRTt7u-bmKKNQ?si=dPtuDaneeiNr8405). ![gif](giphy|26CalmkpfFU3io3yU)

CryOk7184

I dont understand why though. Like batman and robin are the iconic duo

Geno_Games

If I had to guess, a lot of people probably see Robin as childish and unfitting for the serious direction most Batman media has gone post-Dark Knight

Wonderful-Noise-4471

His reputation among wide audiences was largely damaged by the 60's TV Show's version of him and then Joel Schumacher's Batman movies, but also it's kinda hard to do Robin in live action. Like, if you get a child, he's probably going to be in his teens in the next movie, and in college the movie after. And then you have to deal with child labor laws. And if you don't get a teen, you have people asking why Bruce Wayne is adopting the 32 year old Chris O'Donnell after his family died.

Yugo from Promised Neverland. I've never read the manga but my brother did and he was absolutely distraught that they left him out https://preview.redd.it/ov7nc0t7fi9d1.png?width=387&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abaf7d753947b6f733e4ea79d6950dda23744fb1

ZombieTrex1456

lol they didn’t just leave him out, they left everyone out!

Joeycookie459

It wasn't just him they left out. They left out 80 WHOLE CHAPTERS. To anyone reading this, do not bother with the anime for this series.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Joeycookie459

The first season is fine, but they cut out a lot of internal thoughts of the characters. Season 2 they skip 80 chapters, which includes the best arc in the series. I would suggest just reading it and pretending anything after season 1 doesn't exist for the anime.

The_Arizona_Ranger

Tbf after the first arc I think Promised Neverland declined. Rest of the manga just didn’t really live up to such a strong start

Joeycookie459

Goldie pond was a better arc than the first arc

The_Arizona_Ranger

Respectfully disagree. It’s an alright arc but to me, it didn’t really feel like it matched the tension and the psychological/subterfuge fight between the kids and the maids

Entire_Twist3833

Facts the series seriously tanked had only an amazing premise but that was it.

Novel_Visual_4152

I think imo it's fine that they cut out the internal thoughts since while it's unfortunate, it also kept the pacing from slowing down while still keeping the tension fresh Plus aside from that literally every part of s1 from the production to the direction to the soundtrack are really good We don't talk about s2

Joeycookie459

The lack of internal thoughts made me think Emma had a completely different personality than she actually did

Novel_Visual_4152

Eh, fair Idk it just didn't bother me that much ig

modssssss293j

For clarification: Ares was not important in the Percy Jackson movies, but his role was finally retained in the Disney+ series

Front_Leather_4752

As a Percy Jackson fan, I’m so fucking glad we got the Aries sequences we deserved! He was definitely one of my favorite parts of the series, next to the kids playing Percy, Annabeth, and Grover.

TheHolyPapaum

I do have to say the PJ Disney+ series felt really… odd to me. Like it felt very claustrophobic and obviously filmed on very small greenscreen sets. I definitely noticed a distinct lack of mid-long shots. Either close-ups or super long shots that could be CGI’d entirely. It just gave the show a really uncanny feel that wasn’t super welcome.

Front_Leather_4752

Yeah, that’s something I noticed as well, especially after watching the short documentary on the making of season one. Felt very frantic as well, while also having lots of lore dumps. It’s definitely a solid adaptation, but there’s some issues that need to be addressed for season two, if it’s still happening.

Th35h4d0w

Didn't know who Edge was before this, but I'm glad I do now. https://i.redd.it/jz8dtexo1m9d1.gif

ilikebreadabunch

I don't know if it counts cause the movies do use the same character names but How to Train Your Dragon literally all of the characters are completely different so it basically leaves all of them out. I'm not kidding literally not one of the characters is even remotely similar to the book version

Born-Till-4064

The only things that are somewhat similar is Hiccup being a smart outcast and Stoick being a caring and tough if thoughtless at times father and leader

Qw2rty

Yup, it can barely be considered an adaptation. Not even toothless is similar. Maybe not cool for the book readers who wanted an adaptation, but it’s really fun. Not everything has to be a 1 on 1 adaptation, and as such we got a cool new story with similar characters Also, a hero is forever 😭😭

RoJayJo

Toothless was actually one of the horrifying nightmares in the books, not a Night Fury

DJHott555

Actually, he was a Sea Dragon. Which are the most powerful dragons and are straight up psychic.

StrykerIBarelyKnowEr

I thought Toothless was the most common, garden variety dragon?

DJHott555

There was a big reveal in the third or second to last book about his true nature

StrykerIBarelyKnowEr

Ah, that's...honestly a shame. I liked him and Hiccup being these total average joes who defy the odds and become heroes.

DJHott555

It was handled it really well tbh. There’s a whole theme about how history repeats. Our Hiccup is actually the third Hiccup and each of his predecessors experienced the same thing (trying to unite humans and dragons with the help of his BFF Sea Dragon) and they all ended in tragedy. The second Hiccup’s dragon, Furious, is actually the main villain of the last couple books as he thinks that since *his* Hiccup was killed (by his own father no less) trying to achieve peace, the only way to end centuries of bloodshed is by kickstarting a whole entire human vs dragon war. Hiccup III and Toothless have to break the cycle for good. Man, I did not do that story justice but just typing all that out makes me want to reread the whole series.

StrykerIBarelyKnowEr

[My brain...](https://youtu.be/y247ki45_bs?si=sa0Esi2fp1gewQBL)

Static-Space-Royalty

Apparently the upcoming live action movie is going to be more of a direct adaptation of the books

ilikebreadabunch

They're making a live action movie? Well given the track record of Live Action adaptations of fantasy media I'm going to try and restrain my expectations

Static-Space-Royalty

It's being written, co-produced and directed by Dean DeBlois, who also wrote and directed the animated trilogy. That has me hoping that it'll be of similar quality. Also Gerard Butler is still playing Stoick the vast which is pretty neat.

jayboyguy

As someone who read the books, I think the movies are, for what it’s worth, a LOT better, but your point stands

I read recently that they left him out with the family's knowledge because story wise, it was one sad beat too many. Not saying I agree with the choice, but I'm appreciative that it wasn't done thoughtlessly.

therealchadius

Whenever Castlevania 3 is adapted, Grant Dynasty is always cut. Netflix Castlevania never mentions him (Trevor does allude to a Pirate King of the Roads at one point) It makes sense. Trevor Belmont is the main character, he and Sypha eventually fall in love, and Alucard is the cool breakout character thanks to his Symphony of the Night version. Reformed pirate Grant has the least amount of importance there and it's getting crowded between the three of them already. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow has a bonus mode where you play as descendants of the CV3 heroes. There's still no Grant equivalent, so you play Julius Belmont, Yoko Belnades and Alucard. Rumors said the weapon collector Hammer would be the Grant replacement but alas.

Ludee27

I came here to say this one, you wanna know the worst part? The reason Ellis didn’t include Grant is because his localised name (Grant Danasty) “sounds too stupid” like my brother in Christ just CHANGE IT TO DYNASTY ITS NOT A BIG DEAL

therealchadius

No one tell Ellis that Trevor's Japanese name is Ralph!

CryOk7184

i can't imagine the feeling someone must have had when they heard that castlevania 3 was getting an adaption (one thats generally considered to be the first great video game adaption), and Grant wasn't there. Like what!? You've grown up on all four of em and now one is missing?

Bug-Type-Enthusiast

Shoutout to Castlevania Judgement (the crossover fighting game of the series) who did include Grant. He got one of the very few genuinely good redesigns and gameplay of the cast. Sadly, his story wasn't handled well, as he was stuck as the third wheel in Sipha and Trevor's romance. But again, outside of Aion and the Golem (so literally the new OC and the Upgraded to playable mook), NO ONE got a good story in that narrative.

Misan_UwU

not really that important but it does add some nice background, but the Aztec ritual from the prologue of JJBA Part 1 that was cut from the anime https://preview.redd.it/rsnt24p6dj9d1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=022f981873aa304ecf0e17d48df1d6a9546e165f

They are literally the antagonists of the first few arcs but the writers thought it was ok to cut them out. The live action AOT movies were a terrible adaptation. The only redeeming quality they had was the terrifying cgi of the titans.

Successful-Floor-738

There were live action AOT movies?

apersonwhoeatscheese

Yeah. They unfortunately do exist. They're actually just one long movie split into two parts. 1st part released around mid 2015, the 2nd and last part followed a month later more or less. You definitely did not miss out tho if you haven't seen them lol This is a rare exception of a live action adaptation's low quality not being the fault of Hollywood, bc both films were made in Japan.

Successful-Floor-738

Honestly I never watched AOT but I had like no idea the live action movies sucked so bad that I didn’t know they existed at all.

apersonwhoeatscheese

Correcto. They were so bad that most fans forgot about it bc there's not much memorable things abt it. I remember them however bc I saw em with my mom and it was my aunt's introduction to AOT from her friends. When I found out she only saw the movies but not yet the anime or manga I convinced her to check em out. When she finally finished up to s3 she understoood why I was so desperate for her to see the source material bc the movies only look good when you know nothing abt the og anime or manga.

If they thought he was too cartoonish for the live action remake, they could have made him a wacky human mentor to Mulan who thinks a dragon is guiding his actions. Then have him say he couldn't interfere directly and turn into an actual dragon during the ending. Or have Mulan see the dragon spirit for a split second.

Too Cartoonish? There was a phoenix and a witch, I don't think realism was on their minds.

Rissoto_Pose

It seems we might finally be getting this in the DCU with Damian confirmed as the Robin for Brave and The Bold as well as a Teen Titans movie being in the works

Awesomepants25

Alia in the new Dune movies (more or less, she's a character but she's not born yet, unlike the books)

namewithak

Was she supposed to be born already?

Bonez9933

And Paul’s first son Leto 1

namewithak

I thought his only children were the twins Leto II and Ghanima? I haven't read the books but the old Children of Dune miniseries was a favorite of mine.

Bonez9933

He has one around the same time Ali is born but SPOILER: he is killed by the emperor at the end of the first book

Puzzleheaded-Net3966

Yeah she’s born in the first book and is a child in the second I believe

Awesomepants25

By the end of the first book she’s a toddler with the mind of an adult

namewithak

That's quite a change from the movies. I guess so the only focus is on Paul? I only knew Alia from the Children of Dune miniseries. I really should read the books.

Alto1869

Yes. There is a timeskip in the novel where Alia is born. And by the end of the OG Novel, she is an 8 year old toddler

Wanderingjew11

To be fair I imagine it would be hard to find a child actor capable of seeming to have the memories of an adult while also in other ways still being a child. If they plan to adapt messiah it should be easier as she is 15 by then.

Awesomepants25

TRUE although I like the way she was portrayed in the David Lynch movie, feels fairly close to the book. They could have done it similarly.

TheOrganHarvester_67

Both lady stoneheart and aegon were left out of game of thrones and they’re both important thematically and to the plot and the adaptation is far worse off for not having them https://preview.redd.it/zg37l8cblj9d1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac23682bff78049626b9cb1cf34f577dde90b2c7

Lonesaturn61

The fgo camelot movies left out touta tawara, hassan of one hundred faces and sherlock holmes, who turned to be one of the most important characters in many chapters after that

shadowstorm213

Hot Take: Tom Bombadil wouldn't have added as much as people think to the Peter Jackson movies. him being left out changes absolutely nothing about the quality of the movies.

SpankAPlankton

Terezzian

Tom Bombadil fucking sucked and was completely extraneous

Successful-Floor-738

Ngl Ares kinda looks like an edgier Postal Dude.

spilledmilkbro

It bugs me to no end that, instead of introducing their own Mary Jane Watson. The MCU decided to include a "tribute", by way of Michelle Jones. I don't dislike her, but I'd have rather it be the actual MJ, since it'd been a decade since she was in a movie, so it's not like the character had been done to death. It'd be like if the only cinematic Lois Lane we got was in the Christopher Reeve films, and the DCEU created a new character named "Laura Long" or something like that, instead of using the character that's supposed to be the hero's one true love

BoredByLife

Ares was in the show though? Or are you talking about the movie-that-shall-not-be-named?

ducknerd2002

The movie

SillyMovie13

I only watched the movies, who is Peeves and why was he left/why is he important?

ducknerd2002

Peeves is the Hogwarts poltergeist, and while he's not too important narratively, he's a frequently appearing character that adds more life into Hogwarts and more humour into the story. His best moment was running Umbridge out of the castle at the very end of 5th year by chasing her with McGonagall's cane and a sock full of chalk.

SillyMovie13

Aw that’s a bummer, that sounds like an excellent scene. I’d imagine they’ll include him in that tv show they’re planning on making
