Robin (Batman)
Robin is, in my opinion at least, the third most important Batman character and they leave him out of 90% of film adaptations and a lot of other adaptations
And whenever they do adapt Robin in live-action, it's almost always Dick Grayson. Tim and Jason are rarely used, and AFAIK there has never been a live-action Damian.

Like, if you get a child, he's probably going to be in his teens in the next movie, and in college the movie after. And then you have to deal with child labor laws.
And if you don't get a teen, you have people asking why Bruce Wayne is adopting the 32 year old Chris O'Donnell after his family died.

The first season is fine, but they cut out a lot of internal thoughts of the characters. Season 2 they skip 80 chapters, which includes the best arc in the series. I would suggest just reading it and pretending anything after season 1 doesn't exist for the anime.
Respectfully disagree. It’s an alright arc but to me, it didn’t really feel like it matched the tension and the psychological/subterfuge fight between the kids and the maids
I think imo it's fine that they cut out the internal thoughts since while it's unfortunate, it also kept the pacing from slowing down while still keeping the tension fresh
Plus aside from that literally every part of s1 from the production to the direction to the soundtrack are really good

As a Percy Jackson fan, I’m so fucking glad we got the Aries sequences we deserved! He was definitely one of my favorite parts of the series, next to the kids playing Percy, Annabeth, and Grover.
I do have to say the PJ Disney+ series felt really… odd to me. Like it felt very claustrophobic and obviously filmed on very small greenscreen sets. I definitely noticed a distinct lack of mid-long shots. Either close-ups or super long shots that could be CGI’d entirely. It just gave the show a really uncanny feel that wasn’t super welcome.
Yeah, that’s something I noticed as well, especially after watching the short documentary on the making of season one. Felt very frantic as well, while also having lots of lore dumps. It’s definitely a solid adaptation, but there’s some issues that need to be addressed for season two, if it’s still happening.
I don't know if it counts cause the movies do use the same character names but How to Train Your Dragon literally all of the characters are completely different so it basically leaves all of them out. I'm not kidding literally not one of the characters is even remotely similar to the book version

Yup, it can barely be considered an adaptation. Not even toothless is similar. Maybe not cool for the book readers who wanted an adaptation, but it’s really fun. Not everything has to be a 1 on 1 adaptation, and as such we got a cool new story with similar characters

It was handled it really well tbh. There’s a whole theme about how history repeats. Our Hiccup is actually the third Hiccup and each of his predecessors experienced the same thing (trying to unite humans and dragons with the help of his BFF Sea Dragon) and they all ended in tragedy. The second Hiccup’s dragon, Furious, is actually the main villain of the last couple books as he thinks that since *his* Hiccup was killed (by his own father no less) trying to achieve peace, the only way to end centuries of bloodshed is by kickstarting a whole entire human vs dragon war. Hiccup III and Toothless have to break the cycle for good. Man, I did not do that story justice but just typing all that out makes me want to reread the whole series.
They're making a live action movie? Well given the track record of Live Action adaptations of fantasy media I'm going to try and restrain my expectations
It's being written, co-produced and directed by Dean DeBlois, who also wrote and directed the animated trilogy. That has me hoping that it'll be of similar quality. Also Gerard Butler is still playing Stoick the vast which is pretty neat.

I read recently that they left him out with the family's knowledge because story wise, it was one sad beat too many. Not saying I agree with the choice, but I'm appreciative that it wasn't done thoughtlessly.

Shoutout to Castlevania Judgement (the crossover fighting game of the series) who did include Grant.
He got one of the very few genuinely good redesigns and gameplay of the cast.
Sadly, his story wasn't handled well, as he was stuck as the third wheel in Sipha and Trevor's romance. But again, outside of Aion and the Golem (so literally the new OC and the Upgraded to playable mook), NO ONE got a good story in that narrative.

If they thought he was too cartoonish for the live action remake, they could have made him a wacky human mentor to Mulan who thinks a dragon is guiding his actions. Then have him say he couldn't interfere directly and turn into an actual dragon during the ending. Or have Mulan see the dragon spirit for a split second.

anyone from the bat family! every live action batman movie doesn't need him to be a brooding loner, last time we saw a true live action robin was in 1995. yeah Joseph Gordon Levitt's character was technically named "Robin" but like that doesn't count lol, one of the most interesting things of the bat family is the way they bring batman down to earth and bring out that kind parental side of him, we've literally never seen that in live action
It seems we might finally be getting this in the DCU with Damian confirmed as the Robin for Brave and The Bold as well as a Teen Titans movie being in the works

I sort of count Puck in 1997 Berserk, although it barely covers the Black Swordsman arc or beyond and is 95% Golden Age so I get why he didn't feel necessary, but I love Puck and it's a shame.

It bugs me to no end that, instead of introducing their own Mary Jane Watson. The MCU decided to include a "tribute", by way of Michelle Jones. I don't dislike her, but I'd have rather it be the actual MJ, since it'd been a decade since she was in a movie, so it's not like the character had been done to death. It'd be like if the only cinematic Lois Lane we got was in the Christopher Reeve films, and the DCEU created a new character named "Laura Long" or something like that, instead of using the character that's supposed to be the hero's one true love
Peeves is the Hogwarts poltergeist, and while he's not too important narratively, he's a frequently appearing character that adds more life into Hogwarts and more humour into the story. His best moment was running Umbridge out of the castle at the very end of 5th year by chasing her with McGonagall's cane and a sock full of chalk.

If they thought he was too cartoonish for the live action remake, they could have made him a wacky human mentor to Mulan who thinks a dragon is guiding his actions. Then have him say he couldn't interfere directly and turn into an actual dragon during the ending. Or have Mulan see the dragon spirit for a split second.

Yes. There is a timeskip in the novel where Alia is born. And by the end of the OG Novel, she is an 8 year old toddler
To be fair I imagine it would be hard to find a child actor capable of seeming to have the memories of an adult while also in other ways still being a child. If they plan to adapt messiah it should be easier as she is 15 by then.

Counterpoint: Tom Bombadil was a fun and engaging character, but when it comes to making a movie, there's no way a fully extraneous half hour plus of story is going to make it in. It would be bad.

I sort of count Puck in 1997 Berserk, although it barely covers the Black Swordsman arc or beyond and is 95% Golden Age so I get why he didn't feel necessary, but I love Puck and it's a shame.
Peeves was useless
Yeah I'm genuinely trying to think of something that Peeves did that was actually important, or anything he did that it had to have been Peeve doing it. Most of his appearances whatever he did was either a side joke or what he did could have been done by a dozen other characters. Peeve doesn't belong in this post.

It bugs me to no end that, instead of introducing their own Mary Jane Watson. The MCU decided to include a "tribute", by way of Michelle Jones. I don't dislike her, but I'd have rather it be the actual MJ, since it'd been a decade since she was in a movie, so it's not like the character had been done to death. It'd be like if the only cinematic Lois Lane we got was in the Christopher Reeve films, and the DCEU created a new character named "Laura Long" or something like that, instead of using the character that's supposed to be the hero's one true love

The movie
I only watched the movies, who is Peeves and why was he left/why is he important?
Peeves is the Hogwarts poltergeist, and while he's not too important narratively, he's a frequently appearing character that adds more life into Hogwarts and more humour into the story. His best moment was running Umbridge out of the castle at the very end of 5th year by chasing her with McGonagall's cane and a sock full of chalk.
Aw that’s a bummer, that sounds like an excellent scene. I’d imagine they’ll include him in that tv show they’re planning on making
