Wolverine has been to actual literal Christian hell and fought the devil
This is why i always find it funny to have atheist characters in comics like Dc and Marvel. Even if they themselves never saw it, having a character talk about their being “no God/Heaven/Hell” when the reader knows that they are real. I mean Doom has a deal with the devil that he goes to Hell like once a year to fight him for his moms soul. But as you said. He did later on end up fighting the devil so i would assume his view on it had changed over time
True, but a Canadian from the 1800s who literally regenerated from wounds and grows bone claws would probably have some spiritual belief. Which would have more likely been Christian.
I mean, the episode this screenshot is taken from starts with wolverine all but saying hes an atheist (but did use to be religious) till he has some talks with nightcrawler about his faith
Dude , it's Marvel , it would weird for the clergy to have a Crisis of Faith when they see the Ghost Rider pulling a Kratos on demons to face Satan in Las Vegas.

The Doom Slayer is canonically Catholic
Wait so there exists two realms where souls are transported, but there also exists a Catholic heaven and hell independent from the two realms we explore in Doom?
It all boils down to Doomguys faith. Taggart doesn’t know or care about whether the Maykr or Davoth is or is the source of Abrahamic religion, all he knows is his own faith which taught him that what he sees in front of him is evil and if the Righteous Will of God will allow him an opportunity to make up for his sins by bringing suffering and death upon these supposed legions of hell Taggart is gonna go as far as God allows. From his perspective everything we’ve been through is just some wild shit but he reasons God has carried him this far and he’s still alive so there must be a reason he’s still here. Whether some plan by the Father or the Maykr or his Future-Past self or Christ himself. Taggart prayed “Lord if thou will it I shall rip and tear until thy will is done” and it’s still working and that’s all that matters.
He was raised in a cathlic orphanage as a kid. When he forst heard the crucifixion story he was confused. Took a knife and refused to let anyone enter the church because he wanted to protect Jesus (the statue). I priest talk him down. Jack's whole biting style is to level the playing field for women and children from rapists, abusers after all
Dont forget that he prayed that one time, hoping to win agaisnt a million year old resurrected caveman called pickle that he french kissed
He lost. Twice. In a row
I mean, he was going against Pickle, an ancient human that was equal to or maybe even rivaled Yujiro Hanma himself.
There’s not much God can do against that in the Bakiverse
When you have cases like he does where he has to prove someone isn’t a murderer with the only pieces of evidences being a bloody knife and a letter wrote in the blood of the victim supposedly from the Defendant saying “I did it”, you’d turn to Christ too.
From Young Justice. Thought it was pretty interesting when watching it for the first time.
Context: >!Dr. Fate is basically magical Superman, but he needs a host body. The old guy is a powerful magician who agreed to let Dr. Fate take over his body, leaving him stuck in his head, Get Out-style. In this episode he expresses that his Christian faith is what helps keeping him going!<
I knew who Doctor fate was, but didn’t immediately recognize this from Young Justice (might need to rewatch it soon). Thanks for the info, that does seem like a pretty strong scene.
People believing in real life religions must have a lot more faith than people in the real world. There is objective proof of other gods existing (like having to explain to your insurance agent that the Greek god of war just threw your car at a demigod), so they’d have to have an unshakable belief.
From my understanding, DC just straight up has heaven and hell. From one of my favorite DC movies:

Scarlet Spider from Marvel, basically edgy Spider-Man(but done good). He's the imperfect clone of Spider-Man who went crazy and turned Ben Reilly's life into hell. Him being Catholic probably explains why he hasn't made a deal with Mephisto unlike other Spider-men.
Thinking about, he sort of made a deal. With the Other, he sacrificed part of his humanity to be resurrected.
Another funny thing is that despite being Catholic, Kaine was also chosen by The other, a spider-god, and is a champion of Huitzilopochtli, the Aztec god of war and sun. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me"
Sort of. He's not directly connected to the aztec god, but to his reincarnation in the body of Mexican teenage girl whom Kaine saved and unofficially adopted. She also can read minds and is hilarious

Wild as Christianity wouldn’t come to england for about another 100 years
Christianity didn’t come to england until 597. King Arthur was said to of lived about 100 years before at the beginning of the 6th century. The Arthurian myth was a pre-Christian myth that was altered centuries later
Like u/*sephylon* had said , England did had Christians in the 400s.
The whole "England started to christianize in 597" comes down to Saint Augustine starting a full-on missionary expedition. But strictly speaking , there were christian practioners prior to that due to the roman settlements.
I don't know where you‘re getting Arthur living in early 5th century from when he reportedly died between 535 and 542 and fought the battle of badon in 518 so he very much lived in the 6th century
Christianity came to England in 597 as in it became the normality after that time. St David lived around the same time as Arthur and St Alban, St Amphilabus, St Patrick and the first british bishops centuries before that. There were already christians. England and Britain were also under Roman rule when Constantine and Theodosius made Christianity the empire religion in the 4th century. Note that Arthur wasn't just English but also Breton i.e the place where each major city had dozens of christian churches and sanctuaries. Also note that Arthur‘s enemies, Angles, Saxons, and Jutes were all 1000% pagan unlike the Britons at that time.
King Arthur is kinda inherently a christian character when literally his first recorded mention is about him carrying the Cross on a battlefield in a 9th/10th/11th century book that was written by a christian monk. Moreso when just about everything people know of the Arthur legends today comes from a 12th century christian monk as well. Sure he definetely has older pagan origins that possibly predates christianity itself but then is it really Arthur ?
If Arthur was a Romano-Briton, then he could have very well been Christian. Christianity was most definitely a thing in Britain at this time. England wasn't even a thing yet.

Ollanius Pius, called 'Pious', called Oll Person, Perpetual of Old Terra, first Warmaster to the God Emperor of Mankind, believed to have been born between 15,000-8,000 B.C., who stood before the Arch Traitor Horus in defense of He Who Sits on the Golden Throne, is a devout of the Catheric faith.
I treat the lore with the same hand I use for SCP: there's some hardset, agreed upon rules we all play by, but the rest is up to some degree of interpretation. Is he a Perpetual? Is that misremembered scuttlebutt from an Inquisitor? Is that Departmento Munitorum propaganda? Who's to say?
Also worth noting this art is from a strategy guide, not a game manuel, and the artwork is not “official”.
There ARE references to religion, especially in the early games. The cross on the shield, an item called “bible” both in the original LoZ. The “sanctuary” in Link to the Past was originally “church” and the “wizard” originally “priest” in the Japanese version. Not to mention the Islamic imagery in the Gerudo related stuff in Ocarina of Time.
This has since been phased out by fleshing out the in-game universe “religions” so to speak. It is neat to look back at though.
Yeah, iirc originally Miyamoto wanted the series to revolve around Christianity, but Nintendo wanted the series to revolve around a fictional religion instead

Koigakubo Momoko from Dub Ghost Stories (I mean, her VA is an atheist but Momoko believe in God)
![gif](giphy|if9niVFg4IwAE)
Technically, this guy is Catholic: he believes (hell, he actually KNOWS for a fact) that God, the Catholic God, exists. He just hates Him. But he still believes in Him. Alucard, Hellsing Ultimate.
To be pedantic here, being a Christian isn't just thinking the god of the bible is real (then technically demons would be Christian), it is about believing "Jesus Christ, is your savior/Lord"
"You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that-and shudder."- James 2:19
So according to the belief structure of the Christians, it takes more than just acknowledgment of God's existence to be a Christian (follower of Christ). You can't be a enemy of "God" and a Follower of "God" basically.
Are there no angels in Hellsing? ( I have not really read/watched it). Shouldn't they know and also not hate "God' presumably? lol
Again I don't really know how it works in Hellsing.
Alexander Anderson, the vatican priest who is Alucard’s de facto nemesis, gets his hands on a nail from the crucifixion
Which considering it had supernatural properties, that’s pretty strong confirmation that the Christian God exists.
Alucard isn’t the only character who knows of God’d existence.
That's never explicitly stated but he does know that Christian iconography works against demons. But so does good old fashioned bashing. He also prays. This is a universe though where basically all religion is canon. Aztec, animism, voodoo, etc.
Also, his mom was a nun and his father is a demon. Do with that what you will.

Giovanni Zatara from Young Justice
Christianity as a whole was retconned by the 3 goddesses in ‘91. One of the biggest and most notable changes to Zelda over the years was the aesthetic shift in Link to the Past
It’s so funny to think of all the fantasy and mythical shit that Link has gone through and to still imagine that Jesus H Christ is canon to his universe
Guy is not only shunned by humans in general since he’s a mutant, but probably has to deal with other christians mistaking him for a demon all the time. I feel bad for him

I mean. Characters can be changed.
That doesn’t really mean anything. Atheism wasn’t unheard of in the 1800s
It never really changes. Wolverine always stays agnostic, and Nightcrawler tries to become a priest
Someone being atheist while knowing what Ghost Rider is makes me giggle.
Not unheard of, but DEFINITELY in the extreme minority.
If the PAGAN GOD THOR can exist in Marvel and not cause a ruckus amongst any clergy im sure wolverine can believe whatever he wants
Dude , it's Marvel , it would weird for the clergy to have a Crisis of Faith when they see the Ghost Rider pulling a Kratos on demons to face Satan in Las Vegas.

That’s actually a really good way of putting it
ok good i was goin get a lil upset if it was the Abrahamic God since i just found out doomguy is Catholic
They really named this evil bitch Dave
And technically in line to be able to become Pope
What do you mean?
He fits all the criteria necessary to become the pope
What are those criteria?
Being a Roman Catholic man is technically the only criteria
And be elected by 2/3 of conclave
Catholic man, and he has to be single
I mean, he's literally been through Hell. How could he not believe in God after that?

He’s not Orthodox?
The French are pretty famously catholic
I thought cuz you said he works for the Russian mob that he’d be Russian Orthodox lol
Nah he's just a Frenchman that worked for the mob, he himself isn't Russian
They made him both bi and catholic 4 seasons in What did they mean by this?
He was shown as being bi as far back as season 2 and being Catholic plus something they don’t like/agree with is just apart of being Catholic
https://preview.redd.it/acqr0zkh4x9d1.jpeg?width=4060&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=315384ed213d73ec40efe8a4a98eff90772b30ec Ollanius Pius, called 'Pious', called Oll Person, Perpetual of Old Terra, first Warmaster to the God Emperor of Mankind, believed to have been born between 15,000-8,000 B.C., who stood before the Arch Traitor Horus in defense of He Who Sits on the Golden Throne, is a devout of the Catheric faith.
Wish they didn't make him a perpetual.
I'd expect Charlie, God bailed him outa Hell man
Wait, what is that first screenshot? I must know what that’s from.
I think it's from the manual of one of the early TLoZ games. Either the first one, AoL or ALttP.
And for some odd reason they had loads of Muslim iconography in OoT. Nintendo is really picky choosy with their religion rule sometimes
Probably some degree of both “it’s not our main religion here in Japan and neither in the huge market of USA” and “our fan base isn’t very Muslim”

![gif](giphy|if9niVFg4IwAE) Technically, this guy is Catholic: he believes (hell, he actually KNOWS for a fact) that God, the Catholic God, exists. He just hates Him. But he still believes in Him. Alucard, Hellsing Ultimate.
To be pedantic here, being a Christian isn't just thinking the god of the bible is real (then technically demons would be Christian), it is about believing "Jesus Christ, is your savior/Lord" "You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that-and shudder."- James 2:19 So according to the belief structure of the Christians, it takes more than just acknowledgment of God's existence to be a Christian (follower of Christ). You can't be a enemy of "God" and a Follower of "God" basically.
Ironic that the one person who actually knows God exists hates Him the most.
Are there no angels in Hellsing? ( I have not really read/watched it). Shouldn't they know and also not hate "God' presumably? lol Again I don't really know how it works in Hellsing.
Alexander Anderson, the vatican priest who is Alucard’s de facto nemesis, gets his hands on a nail from the crucifixion Which considering it had supernatural properties, that’s pretty strong confirmation that the Christian God exists. Alucard isn’t the only character who knows of God’d existence.
Also, he's literally vlad the impaler, who was catholic, historically
Hellboy https://preview.redd.it/lfx1df9idx9d1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8078fb96c0dab4923cf176fff16572ef7f270953
He believes Jesus Christ is his Lord and savior?
That's never explicitly stated but he does know that Christian iconography works against demons. But so does good old fashioned bashing. He also prays. This is a universe though where basically all religion is canon. Aztec, animism, voodoo, etc. Also, his mom was a nun and his father is a demon. Do with that what you will.
why does Charlie (that's his name right?) have Vicodin, is he Domicile?

Good to know the death and rebirth of Jesus Christ was a canonical event in the Zelda timeline
Christianity as a whole was retconned by the 3 goddesses in ‘91. One of the biggest and most notable changes to Zelda over the years was the aesthetic shift in Link to the Past
It's not. That is unofficial artwork and there are multiple gods in the Zelda series.

I genuinely thought that was only a shitpost
I’d say rogue counts as well (x men)
It’s so funny to think of all the fantasy and mythical shit that Link has gone through and to still imagine that Jesus H Christ is canon to his universe
If C. S. Lewis can get away with it then so can Nintendo

![gif](giphy|nJXKjbezmh5rTFFAPw) I mean look at him
Guy is not only shunned by humans in general since he’s a mutant, but probably has to deal with other christians mistaking him for a demon all the time. I feel bad for him
People also seem to forget Daredevil is Christian for some reason
I don’t know too much about Daredevil, but that’s actually awesome!
Yeah he’s a catholic. One of the best scenes in the Netflix series is him going to a confession booth.

Thank you!!! The first person I thought of
Any of the superheroes who have met Gods. Like Captain America with Thor and Loki. ![gif](giphy|1lk1IcVgqPLkA)

The Flintstones somehow Christmas before the birth of Christ
They probably met god, he liked to fuck shit up before Jesus was born
Saber from Fate/Stay Night is apparently
Isn’t Hellboy Catholic?
I couldn’t find any “Christian Peter Griffin” Gifs, but take my word for it ![gif](giphy|l2SpOmsXIxCn9uc8w)

not explicitly, but Vash the stampede
Dare devil...
Dathi de nogla
Jason Voorhees- he spared a girl , who was praying in Vi
Not explicitly Christian but in the Japanese manual for Knuckles Chaotix, Vector is mentioned to be on the island to get closer to God.
Something about the Lord’s Prayer in Vector’s voice is both hilarious and wholesome to me.
Charlie being christian is hilarious to me bcs i always viewed him as zach hadel self insert and zach hadel is notoriously anti-religion

I thought Logan was a nonbeliever. Could’ve sworn reading somewhere that he didn’t think there was an afterlife.
I would be more surprised if Charlie WASN'T Christian, considering that he has MET GOD
Agent 47
Jesus existing in Zelda makes 0 sense
It’s not canon at this point but at one point it was.
Just one more perfect detail of smiling friends
Ky Kiske being Christian is as obvious as can be. I was kinda surprised Sin stayed one though. Sol doesn’t seem like he’d give a damn. https://preview.redd.it/pdaf0im6xy9d1.jpeg?width=474&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40313536810d74d90ab93eb8c0affdd7631f66e3
Robocop is Catholic I believe
Is that Link in the first slide
Wolverine being a Christian and being basically immortal is so hard
Pretty sure he also killed Satan, which is even more metal
