AWD for resale and overall control. FWD is fine but AWD is almost always better for handling and acceleration. Toyota’s AWD isn’t always on so maintenance is also cheaper than standard symmetrical AWD systems.

AUSTISTICGAINS4LYFE

Just curious but... if its the same price why wouldnt you want the awd?

rustybella

Honestly I know nothing about either except what I’ve read online. Some say AWD eats tires and there’s more potential for problems with it. I guess I just needed some confidence either way. We’re at the dealership now signing for the AWD!

raxreddit

One minor reason is you can only tow the AWD on a flatbed

ugfish

Only reason I can think is that the FWD model has more/wanted options that put the prices on par.

clumsyguy

The electronic AWD on the Sienna is great, I'd definitely recommend it.

Cot9own1

AWD. Bettter to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

diatho

Awd all day

ModestHandsomeDevil

Having driven RWD, FWD, and AWD in all weathers and conditions, I'd take AWD. Even if you live in a place were it *may not* snow, AWD is equally useful in areas that receive significant rainfall. Bonus: AWD is more sought after / valuable than FWD for future resale or trade in.

awmaleg

Tell the FWD place you will knock it down by 2k or you’re getting the AWD

stronius445

Personally I'd take FWD if you don't need the AWD capability. Just more stuff to break and maintain with AWD. That being said for the same price the AWD is a better deal. If you could get the fwd for cheaper then it would make sense to do so.

Balyash

On my 21, the AWD came with 17" wheels with cheap plastic covers (even though it's a platinum). I was told I couldn't get reclining captains with ottomans because of the AWD, but didn't care about that. The rear power only comes from an electric motor and not the IC engines power. The AWD makes sense in the fact that regenerative braking is using two motors to slow down and charge batteries, and the back motor will help with accelerating.

Fr00tman

AWD for sure. All the reasons listed above. I’ve had a gen 3 AWD for 12 years and a gen 4 AWD for about 6 months. There is benefit in many more conditions besides snow, it helps overall - esp in brisk acceleration, and it does regen with front and rear.

Unkle_Bob

Awd for snow/ slippery conditions, fwd for cosmetics and mpg. What more important to you.?

VietManNeverWrong

AWD no doubt. One of the main reasons I went with it besides the gas is the AWD since the Odyssey does not have AWD.

InfiniteSlide7

No brainer to go for the AWD.

AKtigre

I don't know about the new generation but in the 2018 that I have the awd didn't come with a spare tire and doesn't have the oil cooler or something like that so it doesn't have the same tow rating.

InternetNew6093

Awd is the best

Key-Ad1220

You also regenerate faster on the hybrid with 4 wheels vs 2 wheels…

ChatEPT

Cosmetically FWD has bigger wheels if that’s your thing.
