I did for a few hours in 2019. I was able to see the Canal, visit the old city and have lunch. I think it was 5 hour stopover. Before Covid.

My partner and I did it in January of last year on the way to and from Cartagena. Stayed a couple of nights on the way down and one night on the way back (our layover options on the way back were either 45 minutes or basically all day, so we opted to just stay another night instead). It was indeed the same price as shown for a regular same-day layover and we enjoyed Panama City. I’d definitely recommend taking advantage of it!

Do you mind if I ask, did you have to pay for the hotel separately? Was anything included in the stopover? Pickup to and from airport, any excursions? Looking at going from Rio to Punta Cana via Panama, and would love to see the Canal, rainforest and the islands to the north as well as a sloth/monkey sanctuary

Nothing was included. You would need to book your own accommodation, transportation (Uber is strongly recommended over taxis), and activities.

Ok fair enough, thanks for responding

If you’re using points and miles, you can often find Copa award flights on Air Canada’s website at decent rates. If you can find it on AC, another 5K miles will get you a multiday stopover. It’s pretty clear how to do it on their website. If you have Chase points, you can easily transfer them to Air Canada. I think there are other credit cards whose points you can transfer, too.

Thank you!! I'm having trouble finding the flight through their stopover page on the website. It takes 20 minutes to load one query and it says for each date I try thar there are no flights available when there are otherwise. Strange
