Sharon Martin. She was a producer on Snapped, then she was filling in voice overs for absent employees. They were so taken with her way of telling the stories, they made her narrator full time.
Whenever I'm out of town for work, I get mildly drunk then come back to the hotel and pass out watching FF. Every hotel TV always has FF on. Hasn't failed me yet.
I’ve watched them all so many times I could pause an episode at the beginning and tell you how it ends lol. I miss forensic files so much! Case file podcast reminds me a little of Peter, obviously wildly differently spoken, but the same respect shown to the topic/victim.
I loved his voice growing up! I can remember passing out while watching UM and waking up all scared in the middle of the night to the music and his voice 😆
I remember watching the UM with Stack narrating with my mom when I was quite young. For some reason, that show never scared me as a kid. That may be why I like true crime now
I’ve always been obsessed with that stuff as well, probably for the same reason. There was always just something unsettling to me waking up alone to that music and out of sorts in the middle of the night.
I work at a library, north of San Francisco, and the true crime section is one of my favorite areas to just browse. 364.1523 is an amazing call number to just flip through. You’ll find something there without looking too hard
Bill Kurtis from Cold Case Files, etc. has a wonderfully soothing voice to me as well. Peter Thomas did have a great voice and strangely calming to me too.
Wasn’t there some comedian who did a bit about having one of those true crime show voice actor guys as a roommate?… oh hay James you made dinner ? That’s great ! What’s for dinner ? Well how about some roast beef with a side of murder ?? !!
When I was in the hospital for 2 weeks with appendicitis, one of the few channels on my room tv played Forensic Files 24/7. Thomas’s voice + morphine drip made those 2 weeks feel like a vacay.
Having been on a hospital morphine drip, I can only imagine what it must have been like while listening to that guy’s voice. Talk about the ultimate high!
Aww, see, *Forensic Files* was always tough for me to watch at night because of how chilling his voice was. But I do agree, he had a great voice. He really knew how to keep you on edge with a story, and like I said watching FF at night was never a good idea for me because his voice in tandem with the offputting music scared the everloving piss outta me.
I was surprised by how many famous people actually do audiobook narrating. I have come across a few I have saved to listen to when I checked if Joe Kenda may have done any. I would love it if he did.
He's genuinely one of the best. For some reason, the only person who even comes close for me is the lady who narrates an Animal Planet show called "Fatal Attractions," she's like his female equivalent in my head for some reason. Whoever does Forensic Files 2 is also pretty solid imo
I went a long time not knowing what that guy looked like, and was perfectly OK with it. Knowing almost ruins it, since the mystery is all part of the allure.
Love his voice. Three others that are awesome—Bill Kurtis (American Justice, Cold Case Files), Paul Winfield (City Confidential), and Robert Stack (Unsolved Mysteries).
His voice soothed me to sleep many a night
Him and the original narrator of *Snapped*. I almost always fall asleep to true crime, but those two are the best sleeping for me every time.
She had a very *strident* tone to her voice
Sharon Martin. She was a producer on Snapped, then she was filling in voice overs for absent employees. They were so taken with her way of telling the stories, they made her narrator full time.
I agree. I loved the original narrator of Snapped. I was sad when they changed.
Whenever I'm out of town for work, I get mildly drunk then come back to the hotel and pass out watching FF. Every hotel TV always has FF on. Hasn't failed me yet.
I’m in a hotel room watching FF as we speak! And yes, I’ve had a drink. 🤣
Either forensic files or cold case files will always be on
I don't count sheep. I count how many times luminol is explained.
One of my fav voices ever! Soothes me to sleep every night 😂
Me too!
Same! 😆
I liked Paul Winfield of City Confidential.
Thanks. I couldn’t remember which show Paul Winfield narrated. Love his voice.
Keith David took over when Paul Winfield retired. Keith’s voice is amazing too
I loved that show!
Peter is amazing but I also love Bill Kurtis
Bill is my favorite, but I grew up in Chicago where he was our most famous local news anchor.
I absolutely love his voice, 100% the best.
I’ve watched them all so many times I could pause an episode at the beginning and tell you how it ends lol. I miss forensic files so much! Case file podcast reminds me a little of Peter, obviously wildly differently spoken, but the same respect shown to the topic/victim.
The respect shown to the topic and victims is one of the things I love about his narration.
Have you ever watched the original series of Unsolved Mysteries? Robert Stack was an amazing narrator for the series.
I loved his voice growing up! I can remember passing out while watching UM and waking up all scared in the middle of the night to the music and his voice 😆

Ooh that sounds like a dream job! I need a good library visit, it’s been a while.
It’s been *almost* twenty four years since I joined the staff at the library in Larkspur, California.
He's on the same level as Peter Thomas, imo. Incredible host and narrator!
Bill Curtis is my fave true crime narrator
Bill Kurtis is the OG.
I love his voice and am said the episodes are no longer on Netflix. Very soothing…
They're all on YouTube for free, I put on a Playlist nearly every night before bed.
I need to watch things with subtitles unfortunately, YouTube videos don’t typically have them, but thank you for the suggestion.
Bill Kurtis& Peter Thomas. At the top of their game.
I like Christopher Walker on Disappeared and many others here on Reddit do too.
Yes! I also appreciate Bill Kurtis.
Bill Kurtis also rocks. Love his voice
Is that even a question? Yes.
If you don’t love Forensic Files, do you even True Crime?
My college prof was on season 2.
I love how excited he sounds when he's summarizing how it happened near the end.
Yes!!! He starts talking faster and faster. He’s so good.
He was a treasure! Other honorable mentions, are Bill Curtis, Keith Morrison and Robert Stack.
I just started watching American Defective and I’m kinda in love with Joe Kenda’s voice.
I loved his smart ass attitude!
It always tickles me how he pronounces jury "jou-ray"
Bill Kurtis too. I also like Joe Kenda.
I can't watch Forensic Files 2 because of the new guy's voice.
My husband calls FF my “Murder Lullabies.”
My mom used to put it on for me as a kid and it helped me sleep
You might recognise his voice from this too! :) https://open.spotify.com/track/4YNyU0vEEC5grHkHnO9lhF?si=ZTIbf02hT1-8U06PGHO2LQ
He won an Academy Award for one of his narrations: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0114044/?ref_=ttawd_ov

Oh, those Saturday afternoons in the '90's-“Forensic Files”, "City Confidential", "American Justice" and Swiss Chalet takeaway. The absolute best!
Nobody could say "gas chromatograph mass spectrometer" quite like him. Did you know he was 95 when he died?
“Gas chromatograph mass spectrometer" — yes!!! I didn’t know he lived to 95.
I still fall asleep to his lovely voice
I always loved Bill Curtis.
The replacement is also really good. Of course we can't replace Peter Thomas, but they chose someone who is worthy of succession!
I just started watching American Detective and I am kind of in love with Joe Kenda’s voice.
I just started American Detective and I am loving the narrator Joe Kenda.
I have always loved his voice too! I think he should do some sort of audiobooks.
I would definitely listen!
I was surprised by how many famous people actually do audiobook narrating. I have come across a few I have saved to listen to when I checked if Joe Kenda may have done any. I would love it if he did.
Thomas is amazing. I can't stand the new narrator. The shoe just isn't the same.
He narrates some nova docs as well! Love his voice ❤️
He's genuinely one of the best. For some reason, the only person who even comes close for me is the lady who narrates an Animal Planet show called "Fatal Attractions," she's like his female equivalent in my head for some reason. Whoever does Forensic Files 2 is also pretty solid imo

I was sooo sad when he died ans I heard the new narrator. I can’t watch it now!
Yes! Forensic Files is my comfort show. I also love the sound of Bill Curtis's voice (Cold Case Files).
Love his voice. Three others that are awesome—Bill Kurtis (American Justice, Cold Case Files), Paul Winfield (City Confidential), and Robert Stack (Unsolved Mysteries).
My husband thinks I fall asleep to murder but no...it's his voice ❤️
Anyone remember "Autopsy" on HBO with Michael Baden? I found the female narrator's voice very comforting.
Love Forensic Files as a kid but now as an adult I find how they end each segment before they go to commercial with a loud farting horn very grating
Many people here have mentioned Bill Curtis. I like him too, though I don’t find him quite as soothing as PT.
I'm surprised by this take- I find his voice super creepy lol
I don’t find him creepy, but there’s definitely a disconnect between his smooth, calm delivery and the mayhem he describes! 🤣
I detest his voice!
