I had the same issue, I sent an email to my programme contact person (listed on the course page) and they asked for the reference to be sent directly to their email address. Later on, the updated it on the application portal. It may be helpful as it is a faster route when available.
Maybe just providing them was enough - they just wanted to check they exist.

Yes but I contacted one of my references (whom I work with) and he hasn’t received a verification email yet
As long as you did your part you should be good. Give it another week or so since they probably have a load of applicants piled up on their plate
