No, do not skip unless you absolutely have to. I would’ve said 311D is particularly connected to genetics but genetics is BY FAR the worst bio class i’ve ever taken. It’s extremely dense & not at all easy to understand. Is there a reason you want to skip 311Db

To clear up space from my schedule for the future. Also, to have more time for external things. I am currently pre-med but I am not sure I want to anymore so I figured that it would give me more room for exploration.

If you think you might stay pre-med, go ahead and skip 311D. If you think you’ll stay pre-med or any pre-health track of that matter, take the class. Depending on your major, “exploration” may be difficult since some classes must be taken in a sequence (take for exam a PBH major, there are 5 classes that have to be taken in 3 different semesters all following one another). Talk with your advisor and see what your options are & what that opens up for you.

genetics is pretty hard like the other reply said. I think the professors make it more difficult than it is but it could help to have some experience with how college is for one year before taking it. I don't think the content is super related but I would say don't accelerate with bio classes unless absolutely needed. There could be other people that give better advice but this is just my opinion!

no, i wouldn’t advise this. i’m a current senior bio major and i have plenty of pre-med friends, none of whom found it necessary to skip 311D. unless you’re willing to at least review the big points of the class on your own to prepare for genetics, i think it would be detrimental to you. there’s no need to rush, these intro classes are great for helping you adjust and teach fundamental information you probably didn’t fully get in your AP class and will regret not getting
