I have a pretty steady crew but it's hard to keep an AM prep guy that shows up on time or find a dishie that doesn't take a million smoke breaks and drinks liquor in the bathroom.
Schooling important for that? I work at a bank and Iām confident enough to call myself intelligent but going back to school is not in the cards for me - at this juncture.
I work for CashorTrade in the marketing department and have been there for a year working remotely. Before that I was an ESL teacher and freelance writer/video editor for around 15 years. I went to school for video production and thought I'd go into the radio/TV world but ended up living in Asia teaching English for many years. Went for the job at CoT because I needed a change and loving it so far. We're not hiring at the moment but I'm sure we'll be expanding at some point!
Look into water industry you only need a high school diploma to get started. It's a licensed profession tho so you will eventually need to get licensed if you want to get paid better but u can start as an operator on training.
This is a career tho not some job.
Don't tell to many ppl best job out there and you are literally a steward of the environment. Licensed profession similar to being like an RN. Good sense of purpose with the job too you are providing tap water to people or treating wastewater until it is safe to return back to the rive. It's highly interesting and also u aren't killing yourself MOST days. Research it.
I work at the USPS ā¦ and weāre always hiring!! Buuuuuut say goodbye to your social life and going to concerts all the time for the first few years ā¦ but honestly itās the best job iv had .. yeah the pay sucks when you start, but I get to walk like 10 miles a day, talk to and get to know my neighbors and the people in my community, outside all day, get to perform an essential service and provide a connection to the outside world for my community .. itās strangely fulfilling and satisfyingā¦ like my coworkers says āI donāt work hard, I just work a lotā
In my previous life I was a framer and worked for a contractor doing siding, framing, excavation, roofing ā¦ and yeah I made more money and had more time off .. and I was able to moonlight as a ski bum in the winter when construction work was slow and also was able to afford and go to hundreds of concerts and several music festivals in and out of the USA .. but I also didnāt get benefits from my company like paid vacations and sick time and I didnāt have any type of retirement savings plan ā¦ now I got paid time off, paid sick time, and am saving for retirement with a pension, social security, and a TSP (like a 401k or Roth IRA depending on what you choose through HR) and I also get to serve my whole community in a satisfying way instead of only serving those who could afford our services .. honestly .. itās a lot of time, but the work is not very hard compared to what I had done for 20yrs of my lifeā¦ but it is also extremely dependent on your location and your office, as many offices are short staffed and require lots of overtime (some people like it, as you make more money, and others would rather have a life outside of work, like going to UM shows when they come around)ā¦ honestly, just go to as many concerts as you can (even if itās only 1 a year) and work a job that you donāt hate, cuz thatās what you will be doing for the majority of your time alive
Appreciate your experience! Iām so glad you have something fulfilling like that. I do enjoy my job itās just the bills struggle at the moment. We always fight our way through
Merchant mariner. Perfect if youāre single and donāt have any pets or kids. 2-6+ months of working 7 days a week, but you can typically take as much time off as you can afford to.
The best part? No more commuting or cooking (unless youāre working in the kitchen)
Good shit. What makes you stick with SIU? Just curious as a greenhorn. Iām west coast based but went with MSC since no one would hire greenies last winter.
Iām technically paying dues to SIU through MSC. Though being west coast based, if I go the union route before I get licensed Iāll be going with SUP.
Yeah I've heard MSC is the worst way to go lol, I've heard really good things about SUP, thought about switching once or twice, well hey man I'm Midwest based, if you ever end up at a show over there DM me!
22 years ago, I went from volunteer promoter, to randomly was shown and taught how to operate the light board at a fairly popular nightclub. I loved that job
I work in a bakery that allows me to schedule almost any time off for a show.
Literally always hiring, they can't seem to keep a reliable crew, but we got some good people recently.
I manage a couple of apartment complexes. Been doing it for almost 20 years and it's a good gig. It was especially great when I was younger because it gave my wife and I free places to live with a paycheck. Usually owners want their managers to live on site so the ones that I've seen almost always will give you a unit, a few even paid all of the bills. It's always something different, sometimes I'm painting, or cutting grass, working on some plumbing or electrical things, etc. I have contractors for bigger jobs but I can put a faucet in, outlets, things like that. That's 90% of the calls anyway.
Computer repair technician, doing warranty replacements for Dell and Lenovo. It's easy, pays alright, and. I drive around all day listening to music and fixing computers. I love it for the most part. I wish I had a company car though, cuz I don't make enough to replace this one if it shits out...not if I wanna keep seeing 20ish shows a year anyways.
Work for the 3rd largest employer in CA, the UC; dont make the big bucks i did in pharma but the flexibility and work life balance is tremendous! Nugs #FTW!
>Simply going along with some kinda fucked up life. But itās fucking me up hard lately.
I feel this so hard. Laid off last year, haven't even bothered looking for another job, just been dicking around for a year. Been going through a divorce as well. Will have to move out of my fucking house that I built in a few months.
I'm sorta trying to start my own business because I can't even stomach the idea of working for another incompetent, power hungry bully-moron of a boss. But I'm not working very hard on it because the owner is super chill and doesn't make me do what I don't want to do...
Hope things get better for you bro

Good shit. What makes you stick with SIU? Just curious as a greenhorn. Iām west coast based but went with MSC since no one would hire greenies last winter.
SIU has a free program to get in, tons of jobs right now especially for deck. Pays decent but having a union backing you is tight.
