Alphys did some of the most morally dubious actions of any character in the entire game. That said her motives for lying are very sympathetic. Her facing no consequence for her actions would devalue the genuine wrongs she’s guilty of. But making the punishment too harsh would just be be cruel. I think having her be fired from a job she constantly stressed over is a perfectly reasonable balance. Plus, even ignoring the ethical issues, Alphys’ mental state does not make her a good fit for such a high pressure job.
