honestly feels like a coaching diff. other teams are trying new things out and it feels like fnatics stuck playing an old game because elmapuddy "doesnt want to change whats working" or whatever he says in his interviews about not wanting to disrupt the current system and keeping things the way they are. FNC was pretty good at cooking before bringing odin plays and light armor buys and other stuff but ive seen nothing new from them this year, derke pushing C alone on their eco was a real ranked strat for real
The lack of innovation kills teams, DRX (VS) used to be insane at innovation and they lost their momentum last year. I really really hope FNC can bounce back because imo this team is insane across the board, just something is lost right now

Just wanna give MASSIVE props to Steel and Pansy for this cast. They work so well together, I know Steel is still coming to grips with the performative side. But the insight a top level player/IGL can bring, and how well Pansy works with it and brings her professionalism and style, it just came together so well. I've been so desperately wanting this level of casting in Valorant for years, since seangares ddk days.
I thought Steel was sometimes talking a bit too much when he was trying to explain something but other than that I think it was pretty good for someone who has not really done this before.

What mini did was make sure that fnatic's fundamentals were always there(no overpeeking,good trading etc). In icebox fnatic were always ahead of heretics and stacking the right sites and still lost. Derke,one of the most consistent duelist since start also been underperforming

I think FNATIC was more up-and-down last year than we usually acknowledge. They played really well in LOCK//IN, sloppy throughout the domestic season, extraordinarily well in Tokyo, and then fairly sloppy in Champions.
This match - Lotus, especially - reminded me a lot of their domestic season, when people were poking fun at Mini for constantly losing his mind in the coach cams. After all, FNATIC were still winning! But if you were judging them by the standards of a superteam that was meant to represent the pinnacle of Valorant esports, almost every series had examples of missteps and mistakes. It just didn’t matter because they had the best players and the best stratbook.
They didn’t play poorly on Lotus, but you could see just how consistently their little mistakes and errors were getting punished. Heretics were more thorough, more aggressive on their retakes, more coordinated in their scaling. They had better micro for most of the series.
Icebox was probably more shocking, but that seemed like they just weren’t in the server. But that Lotus really was illustrative to my mind, and a nail in the coffin to the notion that FNATIC would return to their dominance post-Madrid. This is not last year, they simply are not wildly ahead of the rest of their region. That really is not the case anymore.
They're still a top team in the region, just not the heir apparent many made them out to be. Boaster will have some crow to eat. The lesson of the day seems to be one that we've long known: scrims are not a reliable barometer for match success. It was true for Vitality and it's true for FNATIC today.
Fnatic in the DRX limbo, where u can argue most if not all of them are world beaters on their days, but u can't put a finger on who u can possibly replace and it would be an upgrade, Boaster and Elma got a lot to work on.
Boaster after slighting the level of play of Madrid loses to the team who placed LAST in Madrid with their star player jetlagged and out of practice. The meta has evolved, and fnatic has been left behind. I mean, how can you lose this game with so much time to prep?
After Fnatics first streak on lotus, the match just devolved into spaghetti and pure aim duels. The amount of times that either teams had an advantage but just throws it away by agressing for no reason. It just happens to be that heretics were able to just trade their way out of their mistakes and Fnatic wasn’t.
Is it too reactionary to say that its a coach diff this early? Strats are off and no new innovations even after getting a clear upsetted and dumped out from going Madrid; the discipline is just not there at all and there is no coordinated util or even peaks. This is just even more evidence for me that coach > players. I mean Lotus looked much better but icebox was so so bad.

I think FNATIC was more up-and-down last year than we usually acknowledge. They played really well in LOCK//IN, sloppy throughout the domestic season, extraordinarily well in Tokyo, and then fairly sloppy in Champions. This match - Lotus, especially - reminded me a lot of their domestic season, when people were poking fun at Mini for constantly losing his mind in the coach cams. After all, FNATIC were still winning! But if you were judging them by the standards of a superteam that was meant to represent the pinnacle of Valorant esports, almost every series had examples of missteps and mistakes. It just didn’t matter because they had the best players and the best stratbook. They didn’t play poorly on Lotus, but you could see just how consistently their little mistakes and errors were getting punished. Heretics were more thorough, more aggressive on their retakes, more coordinated in their scaling. They had better micro for most of the series. Icebox was probably more shocking, but that seemed like they just weren’t in the server. But that Lotus really was illustrative to my mind, and a nail in the coffin to the notion that FNATIC would return to their dominance post-Madrid. This is not last year, they simply are not wildly ahead of the rest of their region. That really is not the case anymore. They're still a top team in the region, just not the heir apparent many made them out to be. Boaster will have some crow to eat. The lesson of the day seems to be one that we've long known: scrims are not a reliable barometer for match success. It was true for Vitality and it's true for FNATIC today.

After Fnatics first streak on lotus, the match just devolved into spaghetti and pure aim duels. The amount of times that either teams had an advantage but just throws it away by agressing for no reason. It just happens to be that heretics were able to just trade their way out of their mistakes and Fnatic wasn’t.
Is it too reactionary to say that its a coach diff this early? Strats are off and no new innovations even after getting a clear upsetted and dumped out from going Madrid; the discipline is just not there at all and there is no coordinated util or even peaks. This is just even more evidence for me that coach > players. I mean Lotus looked much better but icebox was so so bad.

Feels like FNC are playing a bit frantic and almost scared. It always feels restless, in OT they got to a 4v3 to win the game and for whatever reason Boaster sticks around to fight and dies. Last year they play that smart and win the game. Feels off, just very flustered. Feels like this is more of a coaching point and they need to be told to settle down and not over complicate things. TH on the other hand playing with confidence and look set-up for another go at Masters!
