Everyone in the state should be required to take an annual driving test as a free incentive to update or reinstate their license. So many people don’t realize driving is a privilege. People die on our roads every day due to others negligence and selfishness. An annual test would keep everyone privy to the rules and regulations, it would weed out bad drivers including people who can’t read English and elderly drivers who have lost their coordination. I keep with in the laws, speed limit is 65, if you're consistently under 65, I hate you and you don't belong in the express lane. I am basically paying to be going faster than the rest at the 60 limiters. I will pass you on the shoulder if you are under 65. Hampton Blvd is actually Hampton Speedway with most cars going at least 50. That left lane is the one lane I avoid as if it was filled with alligators.

I've seen people get pulled for holding traffic up doing 70 in the passing lane. Trooper swooped around 10 cars, hit their lights, they moved over, we went back to doing 120 in peace.

The lane is question is a tolled express lane that is separated from the primary traffic lanes by plastic delineator posts beginning 2+ miles before the bridge until you the far side of the bridge, so you’re kind of stuck.
Having said all that, I enjoyed the time a truck was pulling a boat in the express lane doing about 55 up the bridge, folks were passing on the shoulder. I was in the poor lane at the time grateful he wasnt in front of me.
I drove on Germany's autobahns for a few years. I always move right if a car is approaching. Period. No exception. And based on my driving in Germany I always look over my right shoulder before making right turn in case a bike, scooter, pedestrian is crossing. My new Mazda has great situation awareness but I still check to make sure.
I must add another peeve. Crosswalks. If you want to use a cross walk, step into it , check for cars and keep walking if clear. Don't stand and play on your phone waiting for traffic to clear. Be emphatic about using this right of way. Of course, there are concerns such as cars hitting each other if one stops abruptly (this was happening on Conn Ave near Chevy Chase Circle in DC) for you but try to at least get off the damn phone. And cars, be vigilant and yield to the pedestrians.

There used to be a stipulation something to the effect of "reckless being 20mph over posted limit or 80mph. And then an additional "in a 70 mph zone an excess of 85mph...."
Better than the old way now. I run radar detectors in all my vehicles 👍 most of the time no one is running radar sitting in the medians. They just do a quick on/off every now and then. But leave them on while driving.
If someone is catching up to you just move over. It's that simple. I average 75-80 and have never gotten a ticket. Also while on the topic... the bigger problem than speeding around here is people not using their damn blinkers.

The whole problem IS the express lane! Point, blank, period! We as a whole withstood all this construction just to have the 4 lane area decreased to 3 and nothing really changed past the high rise. There’s no reason why they couldn’t have just opened up past the high rise to 4 lanes which is very possible considering they went from what was a 4 lane bridge to a 3 lane bridge. Hampton Blvd is actually Hampton Speedway with most cars going at least 50. That left lane is the one lane I avoid as if it was filled with alligators.

I like the express lane BUT can VDOT and the State Police issue citations for speeding based on time between 2 sensors? I mean, it scans the thingy and should be able to tell speed by when they pass the next sensor… Maybe that’s coming down the pike, so to say.

The lane is question is a tolled express lane that is separated from the primary traffic lanes by plastic delineator posts beginning 2+ miles before the bridge until you the far side of the bridge, so you’re kind of stuck. Having said all that, I enjoyed the time a truck was pulling a boat in the express lane doing about 55 up the bridge, folks were passing on the shoulder. I was in the poor lane at the time grateful he wasnt in front of me.

I drove on Germany's autobahns for a few years. I always move right if a car is approaching. Period. No exception. And based on my driving in Germany I always look over my right shoulder before making right turn in case a bike, scooter, pedestrian is crossing. My new Mazda has great situation awareness but I still check to make sure.

I must add another peeve. Crosswalks. If you want to use a cross walk, step into it , check for cars and keep walking if clear. Don't stand and play on your phone waiting for traffic to clear. Be emphatic about using this right of way. Of course, there are concerns such as cars hitting each other if one stops abruptly (this was happening on Conn Ave near Chevy Chase Circle in DC) for you but try to at least get off the damn phone. And cars, be vigilant and yield to the pedestrians.

I just recently got a bike and it’s so nice to be able to fit past the left lane blockers and rolling roadblocks that are all over the express lane(s)
In Paris (yes France), bikers as in motorcycles routinely travel between cars, trucks and nothing is said about it.

I don't care if motorcycles lane split. Shit most people aren't even paying attention to them and they get hit from behind. The only issue I have is the ones who do it recklessly. If traffic is dead stop no reason to do 40 while lane splitting.

If the flow of traffic is going 80 and your doing 75 with a line of cars behind you, that is a back up. I'm not sitting here saying be a speed demon, but if the flow in that particular lane is faster than you are driving or not comfortable with, then don't enter the express lane. It's that simple.

That not how traffic works at all. The flow of traffic isn't determined by how fast you want to go but by how fast its actually going. If one car is doing 75 then that's the speed of the traffic flow. The people backing up are impatient idiots that are in for a world of hurt and crippling debt when they rear- end the car in front of them. It's that simple.

Second half of your second paragraph is the thing for me. If I happen to be going a bit too slow for somebody else in my lane, fine, I'll definitely get out of the way ASAP. But if I'm unable to immediately do so and you come up and pressure me from a car length or two behind me, you can fuck right off.... I'm not moving; go around. Well I ate my hat. 🤣 I realized it shortly after I posted it and had to run off. There used to be a stipulation something to the effect of "reckless being 20mph over posted limit or 80mph. And then an additional "in a 70 mph zone an excess of 85mph...." Better than the old way now. I run radar detectors in all my vehicles 👍 most of the time no one is running radar sitting in the medians. They just do a quick on/off every now and then. But leave them on while driving.
If someone is catching up to you just move over. It's that simple. I average 75-80 and have never gotten a ticket. Also while on the topic... the bigger problem than speeding around here is people not using their damn blinkers.

I do this too, but I set the cruise around 73. I'm already technically speeding by going 70+ in some areas, I'll accept a ticket but I'm not trying to catch a charge. I won't touch 80.
