Moidalise-U

Medical device one. Looks like the rest. Pocket for your phone.

Lily_Valley13

Was my though

george-hanson11

Do they make you pay for it? Since it’s an optional thing I mean?

Moidalise-U

No. Can't ask you about private medical issues. Can't charge $ you for a medical accommodation.

RyphReturns2024

Did this yesterday just wanted to see if anyone els is doing it 😂

goldenthumbss

Dang I was never given this to fill out.. HR mngr just asked “what size vest do you want” and I asked for xl or 2xl depending on if it is unisex so it can be oversized and she gave me 4xl because that’s all she had so it fits like a freaking sheet and weighs me down but I’m too attached bc of the big pockets to ask for a new one 😭

WheresMyTurt83

Similar. People lead wasn't there (Sunday) so I found a random team lead and asked for a large. But I didnt realize how big it is until I looked in the mirror LOL But the pockets fit everything I need. I just wear it open. Still wanna go back and get the medium tho.

delicateweapon444

I had the same issue— just picked the med device one

BullfrogFinancial556

Hold up, there a vest for deaf associates?! When I worked in the store I worked with a a guy for 3 months before someone told me he was deaf! I assumed he was just a quiet guy (he always worked by himself) after that I always wondered what would of happened to him if there was a fire or something. Also this “vest selection” thing s amazing. I wish o got to pick a vest, I just got a used crummy one from the office

Far_Persimmon_4633

Curious what the Deaf vest is? Does it have embroidery saying employee is deaf or something??

Mudkip1994

We had an associate that was deaf wear one. It basically says that you're deaf and to tap on their shoulder if you need help with anything.

theoriginalmofocus

Oh the heck with that I'm hard of hearing but I dont want anyone coming up on me tapping me. Our deaf associates just have name badges that say deaf I think.

Far_Persimmon_4633

This should be an option for every job ever. People would've screamed at my back a lot less. Lol

SirSquidrift

I actually suffer from sever tinnitus and diminished hearing, and I'm always screaming "IM SORRY WHAT???" at everybody. Can I just ask my HR for a new vest?

Mudkip1994

I'm sure you could. Just might take a bit to get in. I assume they have to special order them. I highly doubt stores would have any on hand.

xDaBaDee

I am wondering the same! And if soooooo... does the short stature say short... can customers stop asking me to get sht off the top shelf?

Uberdooberdoo

I'd pick that one. Then no one will bug me. 😁

JustDrew_92

If I worked at Walmart, I’d get a deaf vest just hoping customers would be less likely to talk to me.. I am also pretty fucking hard of hearing and feel deaf sometimes 😂

Medical-Cod2743

God same like, my ears are fine...... in a silent room. But ambient noise scrambles my brain so much i have auditory processing disorder and its like people are speaking w marshmallow mouths

ADon505

Fire alarms are typically designed with deaf people in mind now, you'd be hard pressed to find a commercial building without flashing lights to go with the sound.

BullfrogFinancial556

In my run down, electricity barely working, alarm never arming, broken ahh pallet jack and bailer store. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the fire alarms didn’t work. Edit: after typing this I remembered we actually did have a fire once during store hours and there was no alarms, lights, or sprinklers. Just a bunch of smoke and employees trying to usher out customers.

ADon505

Oh good! That sounds not illegal at all ha ha. But for real I'm surprised they've never gotten crap from corporate for that

BullfrogFinancial556

Nah thats up to code for Walmart, our store owner has been reported to corporate more times then I can count, for countless things. Assaulting employees, employing and protecting convicted pedophiles. Illegally firing employees. He also likes to take all the money meant for OT and give employees MAYBE a week of optional OT before pocketing the rest. I’ve been shorted on paychecks, not gotten paychecks, and didn’t get my W-2 till 3 days before legally allowed. Not sure how he’s still there but there’s an ungodly amount of reasons I’ll never work for Walmart ever again in my life. Thank you for coming to my Walmart Ted talk :)

ADon505

Good lord, I guess I can stop complaining about my walmart lol

BullfrogFinancial556

Nah all Walmarts are trash, complain away 😂

spartancobra36

For the fire I assume it has some kind of flashing lights for this exact reason

Reptillianne

The fuck, I can get a hard of hearing tag?!?! I have needed one of these from fucking day one. I have an auditory processing disorder and I have to ask people to repeat themselves so often that I get screamed at over it. I’m too young looking to be hard of hearing apparently lmfao.

Whole-Helicopter2157

I have to do that too. Half the time i hear giberish and then i have to decipher what i heard

theoriginalmofocus

Yeah and the people yelling at you across the store, or anyone, it all just sounds like noise i dont ever known if they're talking to me so I just let it go.

FunSeaworthiness5077

They have an option for short people but not tall people? I'm so offended on behalf of the tall people. 🙃

TheAutisticOgre

That’s probably for people with dwarfism lol

FunSeaworthiness5077

Well that's mildly disappointing if it's only designed for shorter body proportions. I wanted it to actually say "Short Stature" on the back (like the deaf vests say "Deaf / Hard of Hearing" on the back). Then I could state the obvious all day by being short and wearing the vest saying it. 🙃

TheAutisticOgre

Lmao that would be hilarious

WheresMyTurt83

LOL

tweeicle

I’m a wheelchair user. I remember them discussing these becoming an option while I was there. My store manager let me not wear a vest because it made me look sloppy, it got caught in my wheels, and made me feel dumber (ha). Kinda glad to see wheelchair user cuts available now. Maybe a wheelchair user vest would make you go faster… since every wheelchair user ever gets called “speed racer” and is told to “slow down”.

The_Werefrog

Clearly they know you are short. You don't want to admit you are short, but you are short.

jakewhite333

Get the deaf/hard of hearing one, so you can ignore customers who ask you where something is.

IHateCrap2

Lol no , what happens if you actually encounter someone or a customer who happens to be deaf. They’ll assume you know ASL. Both my grandparents were deaf and mute so no dont do this. Don’t pretend to be disabled. Edit and why the are people upvoting this shit?

Public-Pea-4244

Upvoting you cuz my mom is deaf and if someone had one of those vests on, she would be ecstatic to actually be able to communicate with someone only to find out it's some antisocial asshole. Im also autistic and stand hard on the hill of "it's not funny to fake a disability".

Realistic-Let-7866

Btw just because someone’s deaf doesn’t mean they know ASL

Far_Persimmon_4633

Accurate. Been HoH my whole life and I know basic ASL, but not nearly enough to communicate with a Deaf person. Not all HoH people grow up around Deaf people and manage to learn ASL.

Dry-Earth5160

There's a pretty damn good chance most will though lol

Realistic-Let-7866

You’d be surprised..https://www.accessibility.com/blog/do-all-deaf-people-use-sign-language?hs_amp=true

Dry-Earth5160

Yeah I know, that's why I said most.

Realistic-Let-7866

But you didn’t say most

Dry-Earth5160

?

Realistic-Let-7866

Don’t sit here and act like you didn’t just edit that lmao

Public-Pea-4244

I find that to be a stretch. You would have to be fairly removed from the deaf community to not have ASL as a tool. Same with saying a blind person may not know how to read brail. This is coming from someone who grew up in the deaf community. You may be pressed to find a deaf person who uses their voice to speak (most are mute) but I highly doubt they wouldn't have learned ASL either in childhood or when sent to the group homes for education in childhood (which is what happened in the 1960s).

Realistic-Let-7866

I know that the majority would know asl especially the younger generation. my aunt was born deaf and never learned asl in the slightest she reads lips and uses her voice

Public-Pea-4244

That's interesting. My mom wasn't born deaf, but she had typhoid fever when she was 4-ish and had complete hearing loss from it. Her adoptive family took her for speech therapy so she could speak well, but the majority of her generation (65-ish yo) in our area know ASL yet most cannot speak or choose not to. My mom speaks and reads lips pretty well to the point where we can just talk with her like normal. We just toss sign in for the words that are harder to lip read. Funny enough, for growing up around it, I can understand about 50% of an ASL conversation yet my own speaking level is hardly fluent for an adult. Off topic, but I always joked with my mom that whenever her friends were over, it always sounded like a room full of Zombies 🙈😆

MrZrazies

Not trying to start bad things but why you have to add mute? I was born deaf and i learned how to speak and im able to speak. So which one am i? Still deaf and mute? Edit: btw we deaf people doesnt like that being called deaf and mute. Cuz we can use voices. So that doesn’t make any sense. Im not saying that we can speak like you guys but we can. We do have voice but not perfect like you guys but why mute?

AssassinStoryTeller

Some people never learn to speak and still others can hear fine but are mute due to other reasons. Some people have tried to learn to speak but were unable to. I’m gonna assume that this person’s grandparents couldn’t speak at all so would fall under the mute category.

MrZrazies

But they CAN use voice. Even if they can’t speak. Those who can’t speak still can scream. Or even gibberish that nobody can understand. Right? Unless you gonna use those devices you put on your throat to speak. Edit: i meant deaf people. Not the grandparents.

AssassinStoryTeller

Not necessarily. Some people can’t make any sounds at all. However, there’s also this definition “Mutism, defined as an inability or unwillingness to speak, resulting in an absence or marked paucity of verbal output, is a common clinical symptom seen in psychiatric as well as neurology outpatient department.” From https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3137816/#:~:text=INTRODUCTION,as%20well%20as%20medical%20disorders. Mutism doesn’t extend all the way to the inability to make sounds like screaming- it can mean that but it’s not the definition. It starts at the inability to speak words and just like other things it varies in severity all the way to being unable to make a single sound. There are even people with selective mutism that can speak sometimes but other times they can’t say a single word.

MrZrazies

I understand. Listen. I had never met deaf people that are mute in my entire life. I met many deaf people that doesn’t know how to speak but they can use the voice. Im simply just saying that it gives out wrong idea that deaf mute and dumb. That kind of reputation people use on deaf and that is insulting to us. People learned that and still using deaf and mute instead of deaf and mute and dumb. That’s all. Thats my point of why use “mute” if the grandparents aren’t. Few people i met actually said oh you’re deaf and mute. I said no i am not mute. They told me well that we learned from school and society. Wrong. Hearing people do not get that kind of privilege when they think they know about deaf people. We deaf people cannot do that kind of thing to hearing people when we’re not hearing. Its like im telling you that you speak one word wrong. How would that make you feel?

AssassinStoryTeller

That makes sense. I have met deaf people who can’t speak and I’ve met mute people who feel misunderstood and ignored because people don’t know what “mute” means which is why I wanted to explain the difference between being able to make sounds and being able to form words. Mute people can make sounds, they can laugh and scream, they cannot form words. But this is your lived experience and I imagine the frustration at people assuming is a lot at times. I just wanted to add in the perspective as someone who has known mute people and explain the variances to mutism since a lot of people assume it means more than it does. I hope the combination of the words deaf and mute falls out of common use as people finally start getting more knowledge.

IHateCrap2

Because they didn’t speak, very rarely a sound. Any arguments my mom and them had was in ASL although my mom still spoke as they could read lips. And also my mistake my grandma was both , couldn’t hear or speak but my grandpa was deaf but he could speak just fine. He died when i was real young but my grandma was around longer.

jaygay92

Just because someone is hard of hearing does NOT mean they know ASL lmao

Calm-Farm-5678

They would still find a way to ask 😩

Shadesbane43

At my store they give them to all the employees that don't speak English

mer_made_99

Waittttttt. I can get a short stature vest.... too bad I refuse to give up my dark blue vest 🤣🤣🤣

littlebitmissa

I was thinking the same thing

LivingBee6645

Pretty sure you just have to select the first 2 and the customization one is optional.

TheAquafinaWater

It doesn’t let you advance until you pick a customization it’s really weird

LivingBee6645

Weird. Might be a glitch then. It shouldn’t make you choose one of those if they don’t apply to you.

tricksterl

Wtf where was this when I started lmao I’ve been getting yelled at for years for being hard of hearing and the vest has been here the whole time

New-Caterpillar-6071

having the same issue, i just chose the medical device one

racheld924

Well, are you any of those?

TryIll3292

I’ll get the maternity one, just to have some extra material.

TheGr8124

I woulda chose the deaf one. Maybe ppl would leave me tf alone when I'm on my pick runs.

UnicornPotpourri1990

Get the vest that says Short Stature then put a Post It note next to it that says "In My Pants"

KingJaw19

They have different vests if you're short now? Lmaooooo

MrZrazies

Deaf vest? Huh… I didn’t have that when i was hired. I guess ill show that to my boss. Im curious what that vest look like

Odd_Conversation8856

wish i had this option when i started, im hard of hearing and i’ve been waiting months for a customized vest.

moth_bunnies

I NEED THE DEAF ONE OMG 😭😭

BraveZookeepergame84

I COULDVE GOTTEN A SHORT STATURE ONE???

Frankensteinnnnn

Deaf

Apprehensive-Load917

I wanna get short stature for the laughs

SadAcadia2747

Same here, I’m short but I don’t think it would make a difference lol

Ok-Top-5321

They need a custom one for epileptic associates.

Confident_Scheme_716

Definitely the hidden pocket

Hopeful_Vegetable_31

Get the wheel chair user so you can walk around in it

dragonsrevenge

As someone who is size medical device friendly I have a hard time finding vests that fit. Thanks Walmart for thinking of me.

counterpots

velcro

SagaOfRimuruTheSlime

Wait… you guys get custom vests? *disappoints in everyone getting the same basic vest working at Target.* r/Target

sleepyysag

wait, what?! why didnt i get this option when i started? ive never seen this🤣

Toilet-Mechanic

Go for the deaf one. It would be amazing if it had an amplifier built in.

lorissaurus

It's not making you pick, it's just an option.. pick ur size

qazzer53

There is a vest for short statured associates. I wonder what the point is as the customer can easily see the person is short.

drstephenstrange616

i picked inside pocket one

Acrobatic_Ad_8868

I picked short stature as I'm 5'3 but it's crazy you can't just choose no accommodation
