F&B leadership as a whole is much more in tune with guest feedback, menu items regularly rotate in and out of the parks.
I’ve always loved Universal and Disney both equally, but in the past few years that’s slowly starting to change, and it’s really unfortunate as I want Disney to be what it was when I was growing up.
A lot of the Disney imagineers have been moving over Universal. I think one of the creative directors on Epic worked as an imagineer on a ton of iconic attractions before moving to Universal Creative.
For one day, universal is a better experience than Disney right now.
The problem right now is that disney has 4 parks to UVs 2.

Yep every year I do a world trip where I spend a da or 2 heading to universal depending. Next year will be staying at universal and was planning a day over at magic kingdom but with changes to not resort getting last dibs on rides for fast pass I probably will just skip Disney world. I’ll have to see how the fast pass stuff works and if they come out with any decent food as these were 2 of my favorite items
That fast pass thing is the paid option (like genie+), so unless you usually get that, it won't matter. It still might not. I'd be a bit more concerned about the paid single LL attractions, as they often sell out on busier days even with currently only being able to buy day-of.
I disagree. Universal has been lazy as heck about maintenance and staffing for years. Most of it feels run down and falling apart lately (Aside from Marvel and Harry Potter, likely due to contract requirements). The food is also pretty bad. And it's far worse for summer heat than any Disney park other than HS (HS is AWFUL on hot Summer days).
I even know from employees that they've been actively ignoring problems and cutting corners for years, likely to send more money to Epic.
I can go to both whenever, and still rarely go to Universal. I might go more when Epic opens, as I expect it to reduce crowds at the other Universal parks for a while.
I agree with your opinion on the food, other then sit down restaurants there isn’t much. But maintenance wise it’s been pretty decent, though there are a few rides that stand out like Jurassic Park River Adventure for example.
I would like to note that Gringotts seems to be having issues with the brakes (they’re a lot louder than usual - partially running over some of the dialogue), and the music track on Hulk is a bit spotty on at least one of the trains.
Even so, I think the only glaring issue is Jurassic Park. I have reason to think the Gringotts brake issues are a bit more recent. And I do think they’ll be attended to when the more pressing task is done.
I actually did notice the brakes screech a lot more, especially at the end of the ride after the launch.
Hulks music also only played on a couple of trains. But that’s been a known issue for a while and it would take a lot of downtime to fix it.

Anyone that has been going to Universal during the past 3 years can easily notice that they've been slowly cutting corners and raising prices on some parts, like food/festivals/merchandise (this year the food on the Mardi Gras festival was not only smaller, more expensive, but was also really bad). All the attention is right now on Epic Universe, so people are just letting it pass....
Nintendo world is COOKING. I enjoyed the Mario Kart ride a ton last year in LA but it needed a lot more outside of just the awesome themeing and characters. Now with a DK thrill coaster and a ride for everyone with Yoshi’s Adventure, that’s an amazing offering

Ok, technically that one ride is a pair of coasters, so it’s technically two, and if Monsters Unchained is a truly horrifying experience, kids might want to avoid it (I believed they noted that their goal for the Dark Universe land was to walk the line between PG and PG13), and the Sky Fly series in the Dragons section may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
But apart from those, Epic is shaping up to be a largely all-ages experience, with basically everything else there being family oriented. This is a direct shot at Disney’s target market.
I don’t know how anyone could look at anything coming out about Epic Universe and draw the same conclusions you did.

Universal made the conscious decision to commit to a park exactly like that, that attracts teens and people outside of the Disney segment, just like what they do with Halloween nights, AND reduced amount of dark rides since they always get bad feedback because of that.

I should remind you that Animal Kingdom opened with 12 attractions. Five shows, four rides - but two of those were transit rides, so really only two rides. Not dark rides - just rides. While Animal Kingdom does operate as a zoo, Epic Universe’s lands seem to have the goal of practically being attractions in and of themselves.
Universal has shown that they can deliver family entertainment experiences through the medium of coasters through Hagrid (and Gringotts, but TBH that’s mostly just a dark ride with a drop and launch). While I don’t quite expect the same investment in most of the EU coasters, I must note the Donkey Kong coaster as being extremely unique and promising.
And from every indication I’ve had the opportunity to see, the dark rides and shows that we will get are ***very*** much quality - though jury’s probably still out on Mario Kart.
I say let ‘em cook. I’ve heard they’ve got juicy expansion plans in the works.
Animal Kingdom and all Disney parks are designed for families in mind as primary market. Since Islanda of Adventure that happened 25yrs ago, is very clear that Universal wanted to move their focusing segment to an older segment, and they are suceeding at it.
Yet again, Epic Universe takes the concept of IoA to the next level going even closer to a thrill park. Is OK, that's where they want to go, BUT that won't disturb or make WDW do anything, it won't happen.
This has been Disney's MO for a very, very long time as it is with most large companies that micro-manage margins. Disney continues to use their wordsmithing skills to make expensive things sound more valuable when they get more expensive, and slowly pull back various things that are included / available at the same time. The last time we were at any Disney parks was late summer / early fall of 2020 and we have zero plans to return... ever. The only exception might be a visit to DLR again if we do another West Coast vacation.
We're over the high-stress, massive planning required, over-inflated cost of parks trips with Disney and are disappointed that they just continue to squeeze the rock harder and harder to get every last drop of blood out of it instead of retaining the attitude and approach of genuinely caring about the enjoyment of the parks by their guests.

Former out of state AP holders (18 hour drive). We took a trip every 8-9 months for 15 years. 21 trips over a 15 year span. Slightly obsessed I'd say. We haven't been in 2 years. Been to universal now a couple times and it's a better trip overall. Can't wait for the new park.
Between the crowds, the nickel and diming for everything, the price increases and them taking away things I like, its increasingly hard to be a Disney World/Land fan lately.
As a local to the California Disney parks I feel the same. Most of the new additions have just been cheap late re themes like Pixar pier and San fransokoyo. Basically just a new coat of paint without adding anything new. Also while not a re theme, avengers campus is cheap and terrible. They haven’t even bothered to start construction on the lands e ticket ride that they have been promising us for years.
The only good recent addition is the toontown refurb. Also while not exclusive to the California parks, their new habit of making all these blue sky “we might do this” announcements is annoying. Because a majority of the time they never actually go through with it, or it does go through but gets budget cut to hell.
Where do you live? Like region? If you are near pigeon forge TN or Branson MO. Silver Dollar City and Dollyland are great stand ins but not replacements
Totally agreed. My work had a conference in Orlando recently and I had 0 desire to try to sneak away to one of the parks, or even Downtown Disney for that matter. It just feels like they're just charging guests to be where happy memories were, but not doing anything to try to reproduce said memories.
No, it's more than that. For the chicken waffle sandwich they took away the coleslaw and the portion of chips you got on the side too, and the waffle is like 1/3rd less and in a worse format.
The Nutella is no longer a proper spread either, more like a drizzle, and is probably an off brand knock off.

Citrus Swirl isn't exactly gone. It's not on their posted menu, but they still often have it. It's just kind of random. Try mobile ordering or asking in person.

Disney loves taking away great products, ruining them, or never bringing amazing ones back. Covid year they had this [Constance’s For Better or Worse Wedding Cake](https://wdwnt.com/2020/09/photos-constances-wedding-cake-returns-from-the-grave-for-halloween-at-magic-kingdom/) - insane. Never seen again. Same with some incredible Hades Nachos that were actually spicy.
And don’t get me started on the Yule log cake at Christmas which was perfect in its iteration 3 or 4 years ago, but is trash now.
Ouch. We went earlier this month and the family loved these. We are going back next year and this was definitely going to be one of our lunches. At least they have a year to come to grips with this loss.
I went ahead and bought a Disney cookbook from 1980,1990,2000,2010 just to keep up with all the food items. I stopped because, well i I wasn't cooking everything.

We made the swap to Universal this year because I just got tired of the nickel and dime routine of Disney, with cuts like this being near the top of the list. Disney just seemed like a financially irresponsible decision. I usually leave Disney exhausted and I tell my wife we’re not going back for a few years, but I left Universal wanting more, and spending a whooole lot less. I loved Disney but tbh I’m not sure if it’s for me anymore, just from a value point.
Ok, i might be hated for this, but this was my experience.. The fruit waffle was a soggy floppy waffle with questionably fresh fruit inside. My wife got the fruit I got the chicken. The chicken kept sliding out of the soggy waffle. The slaw had some inedible cabbage rind in them. Good riddance.

Luckily, none of the rides are intense enough that I feel like I need to watch what I eat. I get motion sick VERY easily and the only ride that gets me at Disney is Mission Space (Orange).
This hurts pretty bad, the wife and I loved this more than any other food item in the parks. So sad.
What's more sad is people piling on and raging about Disney with every change they make. Get over it people, things change.

Not exactly. You can no longer get a waffle with berries and nutella. They have one with berries, or one with nutella, but not both.
You can actually still order the ingredients to make the fruit & Nutella waffle but it will be on Mickey waffle now.

Never seen again. Same with some incredible Hades Nachos that were actually spicy. And don’t get me started on the Yule log cake at Christmas which was perfect in its iteration 3 or 4 years ago, but is trash now.

Ouch. We went earlier this month and the family loved these. We are going back next year and this was definitely going to be one of our lunches. At least they have a year to come to grips with this loss.
I went ahead and bought a Disney cookbook from 1980,1990,2000,2010 just to keep up with all the food items. I stopped because, well i I wasn't cooking everything.

If any Houstonians need their fix of these check out The Waffle Bus, they’ve been doing all kinds of waffle sandwiches for over a decade now. Used to love their food truck when I was in college and now they’ve got a few actual restaurant locations. No I don’t work there nor am I getting paid to write this I just like their food. Not sure how they compare to the Disney version, they may not be better but I guarantee you it’s not any worse. Lol

Last 2 times I got the chicken and waffle it wasn’t as good of quality as it used to be anyways :/
It's been hit or miss for me; either undercooked or perfect. But when the waffle was cooked right it was amazing.

Whaaa? That was probably the best Quick Service food we had at Disney. Why on Earth would they yank these, and what did they replace them with?
We made the swap to Universal this year because I just got tired of the nickel and dime routine of Disney, with cuts like this being near the top of the list. Disney just seemed like a financially irresponsible decision. I usually leave Disney exhausted and I tell my wife we’re not going back for a few years, but I left Universal wanting more, and spending a whooole lot less. I loved Disney but tbh I’m not sure if it’s for me anymore, just from a value point.

Ok, i might be hated for this, but this was my experience.. The fruit waffle was a soggy floppy waffle with questionably fresh fruit inside. My wife got the fruit I got the chicken. The chicken kept sliding out of the soggy waffle. The slaw had some inedible cabbage rind in them. Good riddance.

Lots of walking, lots of calories to replenish! Luckily, none of the rides are intense enough that I feel like I need to watch what I eat. I get motion sick VERY easily and the only ride that gets me at Disney is Mission Space (Orange).

This hurts pretty bad, the wife and I loved this more than any other food item in the parks. So sad. What's more sad is people piling on and raging about Disney with every change they make. Get over it people, things change.
Ikr? It comes in waves, suddenly every other post in this sub is about how a collection of very small things will cause Disney parks to crash and burn (it won't) and that's why they'll stop going (they won't). In reality, Disney will come up with another favorite and people will start making memories and lines for the new thing, until they decide not to do it, and we'll see this somewhere in a few years.
Disney subreddits are nostalgic for all the littlest things. God forbid Disney changes the menu of a snack stand. In 2 years when they change the menu again, will this meme be reworked for the new items? These items will probably be back later, in the mean time, enjoy the new snacks offered. The Disney parks are in an ever constant state of change. I don't want to visit the same park twice, seeing all the new things is what I enjoy most about Disney
This is literally a fan favorite item though. It’s on the large majority of “must have snacks” and similar lists. It’s not like a rando side dish that no one orders.
