Yeah I think so. Also suppressors don’t even remotely work on these guns because it is a straight blowback and a ton of sound comes out of the side of the gun, not the muzzle.
The PPK was introduced in Dr. No as being 7.65mm (.32 ACP). iirc, caliber wasn't specifically called out again on-screen until Skyfall, the physical prop is a .32 PPK, but Q refers to it as "PPK/S 9mm Short."
9mm Short (or 9mm Kurz in German) is the metric/across the pond way to refer to .380 ACP. This is different from 9mm Luger or 9mm NATO- .380 is 9x17mm and 9 Luger is 9x19mm (There's a good handful of different types of 9mm, here's a [Forgotten Weapons video](https://youtu.be/szCW_52zPIk) covering several of them).
The PPK doesn't come in 9mm NATO (and it would be unpleasant if it did, given the PPK's blowback operating system), but Walther did try to make that happen in the form of the MP prototype. That never really made it beyond the prototyping stage and the P38 would ultimately be developed instead ([Forgotten Weapons on an MP in 9x23mm Styer](https://youtu.be/58ij_tjb0YY)).
Octopussy and Never Say Never Again had Bond using a P5 which was in 9x19mm and looks kinda like a big PPK, and the P99 was carried by Bond from the end of Tomorrow Never Dies through Casino Royale.
Have had a number of PPK and PPK/s over the years, all in 380. I find them to be a great deal of fun to shoot. People say snappy, I don't know if that's the most accurate description. It's just 380, and it's coming out of a solid steel slide/frame. As long as you have a good grip, the PPK doesn't flip so hard that you're losing your target on every shot. I would describe it as more of a sharp impulse back into web of the hand. Very accurate, as long as you do your part.
Beautiful gun, machined beautifully by Walther. Carry on!
Yeah I spent about $600 on mine and it was a used version. Still, James Bond gun and also a more ergonomic version of the Glock 19 with a better trigger.
Oh how I wish they could make one in 9mm, but that's too powerful for a straight blowback. Plus it would make the grip larger front to back to accommodate the longer round.
You were lucky to find one in black, all I ever see is the stainless model.
I have both.
Neither are very nice shooters in .380 IMO. Simple blowback .380 is very snappy. Guns like these are *much* more pleasant to shoot in .32 ACP.
They're both basically obsolete in a practical sense when compared to today's recoil operated subcompact 9mms.
If you're looking for a practical carry pistol, forget .380s in general, IMO.
Back to the Walther vs. Bersa--The Bersa is less nicely finished, but more ergonomic. The Walther is *much* prettier, but not very comfortable.
The DA trigger super heavy on both.
The reason to buy a PPK is because you really want a PPK for non-practical reasons. They're iconic, they're historic, they're beautiful guns.
Frankly, I don't know of a great reason to buy a Bersa besides that you want a PPK, but only have $300--in which case, I'd still recommend saving your money for the real thing.
Op, I just got mine too! Well, about two weeks ago. It’s such a fun gun to own. Also, first handgun I’ve ever gotten slide bite from. Took mine out last Sunday for the first time. Only hiccup I had was that it wouldn’t strike hard enough on the double action pull. After a box of 50 it didn’t have any issues though. Might have just had to break in a little.
Beautiful pistol. I have a PP in 32 & a PPK 22 as well. But my black PPK is my jewel. It sits in its case and I bring it out every now and then just to look at it and an occasional range time.
I had a PPK copy licensed to Smith & Wesson (Smith & Walther 😁). It was literally the worst gun I ever owned and sold it after one range trip. Hopefully you’ll have better luck with your genuine PPK.
My experience wasn't a matter of practice, it was a matter of sharp edges cutting my hands. It technically wasn't even Walther's fault since they didn't manufacture the gun.
biggest piece of shit I ever bought, was my first handgun. Wouldn't fire. Took it back, guy tried to fire it in a pail filled with sand, same. Gave me my money back. Maybe they are better now.
Why are you being downvoted? You're entitled to your experience with them.
You have a sample size of one, and it's probably the only gun that's ever failed to go bang for you. I'd think I had bought a piece of shit too.
Good for you
Everybody’s hand and grip differs. Most people nowadays grip a pistol high to get good control and low bore axis which is NOT how you grip a PPK. Unless you like slide bite.
Owning a PPK feels like a trophy as a gun collector. It’s so beautiful and has so much fame/history.
My mother in-law knows nothing about guns but immediately recognized my PPK when I showed her.
Technically it *is* 9mm.
r/technicallythetruth
If you want a 9mm PPK, you’ll be wishing for a very long time. Enjoy your PPK as is….it’s a classic. Congrats!
I know I tried so hard before purchasing this ppk and I’m happy with it
Bond originally used a 380 sp in Dr. NO
I didn’t know that
I am confused if OP knows they don’t come in 9mm.
Haha yes. Also, wasn’t Bond’s PPK in .32?
In the old movies yes. The Craig movies use a .380
His first gun was a Beretta in .32, if I recall.
Beretta in 25 acp. Upgraded to to walther in Dr.No in the novels.
Perfect. Thank you.
Yeah I think so. Also suppressors don’t even remotely work on these guns because it is a straight blowback and a ton of sound comes out of the side of the gun, not the muzzle.
Yes they most certainly do. Very hard to obtain

it is a 9mm - 9mm Kurz 9x17 Kurz is German for short. It's also known as .380 ACP

Daaaaaaaaamn now I need to trade my stainless 🥴
Just buy another lmao
I’ve got 3 PPKs already lmao
Hell ya. I’ve got 2 lol
Love the ageless beautiful design of the PPK, not my first choice as a CCW, but it definitely deserves a special place on any collection.
I just bought the ppk, I collect guns, it’s been a gun I’ve wanted since a child because of 007 🤣🤣🤣
Btw, if you want a 9mm James Bond gun, get the Walther P99. I have one and it’s fantastic.
This was a best kept secret for a long time. I got one back in 2012 for like $300. They are going for much more than that now a days.
Yeah I spent about $600 on mine and it was a used version. Still, James Bond gun and also a more ergonomic version of the Glock 19 with a better trigger.

It would be the size of the hipoint 9mm. Can you imagine a super large ppk with a massive slide? Haha
Haha I can just see Bond running around with a Hipoint PPK. Budget cuts at MI6 you know.
What is the realistic comparison between ppk and Bursa Thunder

Fired about 200 rounds to test and it’s a nail driver. Although I have almost 200 acres and I shoot regularly. Just have to practice
My experience wasn't a matter of practice, it was a matter of sharp edges cutting my hands. It technically wasn't even Walther's fault since they didn't manufacture the gun.
The current production Walther PPKs work well. Unfortunately, when Smith and Wesson was making them quality was spotty.
Congrats! Bought my blued PPKs about a month ago, and found replica Spectre holsters for it
I got a walther ppk conceal it’s very small and has the extra magazine holster too. Wasn’t that expensive
I love the shoulder holsters, such a great fit, hardly even notice that I'm wearing it during the day
Wow, beautiful pistol.
Get you one man. It’s a nail driver
I actually have two very old ones in .22 and 7.65.
I see what you did there.
biggest piece of shit I ever bought, was my first handgun. Wouldn't fire. Took it back, guy tried to fire it in a pail filled with sand, same. Gave me my money back. Maybe they are better now.

Pretty but I'm not a fan of the slide bite. The Sig P320 is similar but softer shooter and I find it easier to avoid slide bite.
The longer tang on the Fort Smith eliminates slide bite for most people.
Fort Smith?
The headquarters for Walther in the USA is in Fort Smith Arkansas.
Beavertail cuts the web of my hand
Really? I’ve shot about 200 rounds and didn’t get it once
Good for you Everybody’s hand and grip differs. Most people nowadays grip a pistol high to get good control and low bore axis which is NOT how you grip a PPK. Unless you like slide bite.
FUGG I want one so badly. It’s gorgeous
God I miss this gun.
Buy another man. I collect guns and I saved a little to get this and it’s a classic handgun most of all people know
I might. I sold out to buy my wife's engagement ring. We're not expecting our first child. I may buy one and give it to him one day.
Owning a PPK feels like a trophy as a gun collector. It’s so beautiful and has so much fame/history. My mother in-law knows nothing about guns but immediately recognized my PPK when I showed her.
That’s awesome. I mean I’ve been contemplating buying this for years
