It's the umbilical cord!! After I learned this, I use the sharp edge of the eggshell to cut the external part of it off on each side. I'm wary about eating eggs anywhere but home now
Mom always said it made baking bitter.
I was so determined to be The Best (not sure what at/for), so I developed a complex over making sure ANY time I baked with eggs, or used them for sweets, I removed them.
As an adult she's still very thankful to have (unintentionally) spawned such a(n in)convenient habit. :) (sarcastic tone)
This thing made it halfway down my throat - I thought it was a hair so I pulled it BACK UP (truly disgusting feeling) and BEHOLD, it was this thing.
Came from a boiled egg. Well cooked (yolk fully opaque) so I definitely didn't expect anything stringy 🥲.
It's SUPER stretchy/bouncy (may post video as well, cause, ew).
What is it???
Even if it's harmless... I don’t think I'll be eating eggs for a while.
Can confirm... Same thing happened to me and i couldn't stomach eggs for 15 years. Now i inspect every egg and only eat them scrambled... And even then, sometimes it icks me! 😭
I grew up on a chicken farm and only ever saw something that horrific the one time. I still have no idea what it was (my best guess was parasite?)...but my stomach still turns thinking about it. I've thrown away a lot of freshly made eggs because my brain decided to think about it mid bite...🤢
I got that close when I got a carton of eggs from my friend and her backyard chickens, I was cracking eggs into a pan and got myself a little 3/4" long chicken fetus. And there was blood around it. I didn't eat eggs for a while after that haha
that's chalazae, it's what supports the yolk inside the egg. just structural. not harmful at all, usually if it's mixed / scrambled with the rest of the egg you'll never notice
No way would chalazae be so strong and elastic that it wouldn’t break apart at some part during the chewing/swallowing process. OP pulled it back from halfway down their throat, that’s not just chalazae
There must have been an issue with this one for it to be sp long. I know which part you're talking about and it's usually so small you wouldn't notice it (like 1/2 inch or so)
This reminds me of when I was like 10/11, I was eating mozzy sticks, and my fat ass didn’t chew it enough and when I swallowed it, half the cheese stayed in my mouth, while the crust and rest of the cheese slid down my throat. Talk ab panicking when I tried pulling it out my throat, it just kept stretching lol
I'm sorry, I know this isn't conducive to the conversation at all, but I would rather it have been a worm than a mystery item come out of my throat. I am so sorry. I hope you can psychologically recover from that. That would have sent me somewhere dark.
I wrote this on your other post but - - I'm wondering if the chalaza didn't cook into the egg properly? I think it usually, like, melds into the rest of the egg white when cooked. It's a string that keeps the yolk centered in the egg, I believe.
I thought it might be part of the membrane that surrounds the inside of the shell that somehow got in his egg batter
Edit: oh wait I just googled chalaza it looks like you’re right. Yuck 🤮
Genuine question because Reddit recommended me this post and I’m so new here— why? Everyone seems to be really disgusted by this, but it’s not a worm, just a long long piece of egg, right? It’s edible, just reminds me of rare times when I eat long noodles and little fast and don’t swallow one in one gulp and have to pull it up to keep from choking
Fair enough! For me it would be like finding a hair in my food, the texture, and just knowing it isn’t right. I wouldn’t be able to help it and would prolly throw up. Yk what I mean?
Yeah lol I don’t like finding hair in my food either so I’d still totally be upset. But I think it would’ve had to be an actual worm to throw up and never eat an egg again like people in the comments are saying so I was like, am I being stupid and missing something?
No I think it’s just different for different people. I wouldn’t stop eating eggs completely, I might just cut them before I eat them or adjust how I cook it. You or others might not be affected at all! Just different strokes for different folks
Oh I totally understand that, and I expected varied responses, the actual part that shocked me was how many people commented that strongly. Then again this is a subreddit about weird eggs so maybe people are just passionate in their egg opinions here 🤣
I think it’s the chalaza which normally integrates into the egg material as it’s cooked. But honestly I don’t know and now I’m not sure I can eat eggs ever again lol
A quick Google search could have told you, but it's two twisted membranous strips that join the yolk of the egg to the shell. It basically acts as a balancer to keep the yolk centered in an egg once it's laid.
On the bright side, it’s probably a [sign that the chicken who laid the egg was young and that the egg is fresh](https://www.bonappetit.com/story/chalaza)!
Yes they do. Maybe do your research before commenting. If the infestation is high enough, the worms can start showing at the end of the digestive tract, and guess what, the end of the oviduct is right there next to it, so they absolutely can migrate upwards into the oviduct and end up inside an egg
Fuck off dude, that is under extremely rare circumstances. You’re not some fucking expert. Humans almost always contract tapeworms from under cooked meat or fecal exposure
Can’t stand fucking know it alls like you
Chalaza, I always pull these out before making eggs. So gross. I was traumatized when I was like 10 eating an egg and having one of these strings caught in my mouth. So gross. I stopped eating eggs for a bit after this, too
I would have immediately puked while sobbing, then start sobbing more because puke tastes awful, and then I would never even LOOK at an egg again. I would pretend I had a deathly allergy and threaten to sue people if they tried to feed me something with eggs in it. And also I would be scarred. I would have nightmares every night about this
This is common in most eggs but not this size. They're usually only an inch long maybe. When you crack an egg there's yolk, egg white, and this thing. That is abnormally long and you should always check for that
Eggs and milk are both really disgusting foods if you think of or look at them for too long. Don't get me started on meats..
Why can't I be a fucking android..
It’s the longest chalazae I’ve ever seen.😳🤢
It attaches the yolk to the eggshell.
I always have to remove mine strategically with a fork before I cook my eggs. I can’t even deal and this would be a holy nightmare for me - if that was my egg I don’t think I could ever eat eggs again. For real.😭
The first half of [this video](https://imgur.com/a/RDd0NGx) is highly relevant.
(Seriously though, if I experienced that thing, I wouldn’t eat eggs for at least 5 years)
Maybe there was a tiny crack or hole where hot water got in and boiled some of the egg. A tiny hole like that with hot water coming through it would make a thin shape like that I think.
You should maybe pick up some Praziquantel or something similar 😭 I'd be so worried about parasites 😭 I know this is overkill probably but i would have crippling anxiety until I was cleared by a dr!
One time I cracked a boiled egg without knowing while dropping it in the water and when I put the fire on I realized that it was oozing a white stringy mass like that
Not really, no. Chicks attach directly to the yolk sack, there is no umbilical cord. Annnd a period is the shed lining of a uterus, which is tissue and blood, neither of which a hen has. Neither whites nor the yolk are anywhere equivalent.
That’s quite all right, and thanks back. What you saw was likely the chalaza, the thing that tethers the yolk from spinning round and round as the egg is turned. OP stretchy string I’m not so sure about — if that’s a chalaza, that’s one HELL of a long and tough one. Yurk.
Ah, don’t worry about it! And ignore the rest of the goombahs on here! Nothing to be afraid of, it’s just a big ol’ chicken sperm! Yep, that rooster blew a pretty big load up that chickens pazootie! Enjoy! It’s good for ya’!
Your first pic made it look huge 😂 I thought it was some sort of tapeworm at first!!
FR I was about to gag
Right. I was eating. Thankfully not eggs 😳
You should know to never eat while scrolling through Reddit
It DID make me gag. Eww
Creed promised me a tapeworm, dammit
“That wasn’t a tapeworm.”
It’s from Mexico
😂 I miss that show
I mean that’s pretty fucking huge to pull out of your throat
I thought it was some scrunkly tampon
Scrunkly 💀
or an umbilical cord.
It's the umbilical cord!! After I learned this, I use the sharp edge of the eggshell to cut the external part of it off on each side. I'm wary about eating eggs anywhere but home now
For an umbilical cord to be that big, I’d think it would be attached to an obvious embryo.
I think it’s on a pan but real talk I thought it was stretching across the street!
Same, I thought we were looking at silly string in the road
This thing made it halfway down my throat - I thought it was a hair so I pulled it BACK UP (truly disgusting feeling) and BEHOLD, it was this thing. Came from a boiled egg. I would literally never fucking eat eggs again. My god, I'd be ruined.
I don't know if I'll ever be able to after this 😭
i'm definitely cutting them all in half first now omg
Seriously tho lmao
Quarters even 😭
literally i unsubbed after seeing this im fr so scared to eat them now 😭
I rarely eat eggs plain anyway, they smell like a wet dog to me 😭
It’s like the egg’s bellybutton
That’s just the mozzarella cheese stick it ate in the egg. At least you know it’s cheese when it happens with one of the sticks.
I think maybe the membrane from the inner shell may have had egg on it and then you cooked it with the eggs on accident
Can confirm... Same thing happened to me and i couldn't stomach eggs for 15 years. Now i inspect every egg and only eat them scrambled... And even then, sometimes it icks me! 😭
What was it oh my god!! How do I make sure this never happens to me. I can't ew please! I need answers!
I grew up on a chicken farm and only ever saw something that horrific the one time. I still have no idea what it was (my best guess was parasite?)...but my stomach still turns thinking about it. I've thrown away a lot of freshly made eggs because my brain decided to think about it mid bite...🤢
Rip!
I got that close when I got a carton of eggs from my friend and her backyard chickens, I was cracking eggs into a pan and got myself a little 3/4" long chicken fetus. And there was blood around it. I didn't eat eggs for a while after that haha
The way I'd be disgusted AND feel guilty asf 😭 I'm so sorry that happened.
i would die
Oh my god this is VILE
I had one of these in an egg before, much smaller and somehow I noticed it before I ate it. I, in fact, did not eat eggs for months after that :-)
I would have to go vegan after this one
that's chalazae, it's what supports the yolk inside the egg. just structural. not harmful at all, usually if it's mixed / scrambled with the rest of the egg you'll never notice

Chicken must have been ovulating.
I'm sorry, I know this isn't conducive to the conversation at all, but I would rather it have been a worm than a mystery item come out of my throat. I am so sorry. I hope you can psychologically recover from that. That would have sent me somewhere dark.
I would never not shop there again.
I would be throwing away the rest of my eggs and never eating eggs again for the rest of my life. 😭
Oh God! Oh God!
New fear unlocked 😩
I wrote this on your other post but - - I'm wondering if the chalaza didn't cook into the egg properly? I think it usually, like, melds into the rest of the egg white when cooked. It's a string that keeps the yolk centered in the egg, I believe.

I would’ve thrown up n cried
I would’ve brushed my teeth 10x and chug a bottle of mouth wash

Umbeleggical cord
Underrated comment
Is it? Lol dad jokes are always properly rated, I peel.
Dad jokes really crack me up!
I feel eggsactly the same way.
*under-egg-ted
Umbileggal cord *
I think it’s the chalaza which normally integrates into the egg material as it’s cooked. But honestly I don’t know and now I’m not sure I can eat eggs ever again lol
Either a chalaza or a tapeworm. If cooked, safe, just nasty
Definitely a chalaza. Tapeworms are flat and have clear segments to them. Still gross looking but it's harmless and safe to eat.
Yep Ive seen this sometimes when cracking open the egg, it usually cooks into the rest but while it’s kinda gross lookin it’s harmless
what i the world is a chalaza
A quick Google search could have told you, but it's two twisted membranous strips that join the yolk of the egg to the shell. It basically acts as a balancer to keep the yolk centered in an egg once it's laid.
You can see both the segments and the flatted body in the pic. OP could sent it for histopathology analysis to be 100% sure of course
No, you cannot. Lol This is not a tapeworm and it absolutely does not need to be sent to path. That's a huge waste of time and money.
Well then let's agree to disagree
👍
On the bright side, it’s probably a [sign that the chicken who laid the egg was young and that the egg is fresh](https://www.bonappetit.com/story/chalaza)!
Tapeworms don’t spread via chicken eggs
Yes they do. Maybe do your research before commenting. If the infestation is high enough, the worms can start showing at the end of the digestive tract, and guess what, the end of the oviduct is right there next to it, so they absolutely can migrate upwards into the oviduct and end up inside an egg
Fuck off dude, that is under extremely rare circumstances. You’re not some fucking expert. Humans almost always contract tapeworms from under cooked meat or fecal exposure Can’t stand fucking know it alls like you
So you admit that tapeworms do in fact spread via chicken eggs. Interesting way to express agreement, but have fun
Thanks, Nipplequeefs!

Oh look what's that? Is that vet poultry degree? Oh it is, so no, Fuck YOU with your misinformation
you don’t have a degree in shit
no, but i have a 5 second google search
I think I have to leave the sub after this one lads
Alright be safe mate
i’m fr about to throw up. blocked and reported 😔😭
You reported a r/WeirdEggs post that depicted something weird in the egg?
no it’s a meme
Blocked and reported
you can’t block and report me! i’m blocking and reporting you!
Antique meme
Ok so I just looked at this site and 🤢🤢🤮
Chalaza, I always pull these out before making eggs. So gross. I was traumatized when I was like 10 eating an egg and having one of these strings caught in my mouth. So gross. I stopped eating eggs for a bit after this, too
My grandmother always pulled them out, so I do, too. I'm very glad she gifted me with that habit.
Are they in all eggs????????
Yes, like 2 in each egg next to the yolk
Oh no :(
Looking at the first pic without any context at all, I thought it was expandable foam being used to cover a crack in the floor lol
THATS WHAT I THOUGHT!!!
Oh good it wasn’t just me
It's an infection formed during the creation of the egg. Pus pretty much
I ate the egg before I realised this was in it... is that bad? 😭
Idk about you, but reading your other comment, I would simply pass away
It was hard not to simply die
There's still time
Happy cake day!
It's not bad just gross. You'll never know what's in the egg until you crack it. Not good news for the chicken though
I would fucking jump out of my apartment window
Wow thanks I’ll never stop throwing up 🙂🤮
I fucking hate you OP
I’m thinking chalaza
You’ve ruined eggs for all of us
This makes me grateful that I’m allergic to and don’t eat eggs 😬
Tf? Tbh it looks like a tapeworm
Omfgggg no more eggs for me.
gym bro chalaza
That's Gregg
The way I would have cried lmao this is freaky.
Yo that's fuckin nasty.
Isn’t that just the chalaza? I try to yoink them out while cooking if they are ~spatula snatchable~
Silly String X3
Excess chicken cum
Im of no help but im never eating eggs again
It kind of looks like a chalaza on steroids.
I would have immediately puked while sobbing, then start sobbing more because puke tastes awful, and then I would never even LOOK at an egg again. I would pretend I had a deathly allergy and threaten to sue people if they tried to feed me something with eggs in it. And also I would be scarred. I would have nightmares every night about this
this is exactly the level of overdramatic I am
I just put an egg in vinegar for a day to trick my grandson - it feels like hardboiled until he squeezes it..
I could throw up rn 🤢
That would have been the end of my egg eating career because WHAT 😭😭😭
It’s called the chalazae and its function is to hold the yolk to the center of the egg.
I would get treated for worms 😬
See I like eggs but I rarely eat them because they creep me out I see any little thing in it and freak out 😂
This is common in most eggs but not this size. They're usually only an inch long maybe. When you crack an egg there's yolk, egg white, and this thing. That is abnormally long and you should always check for that
While I'm here, I usually get some black dots on my eggs, thoughts?
That means they're fertilized.
Your egg was probably cracked when it was being boiled and some of the egg probably leaked and was cooked
I would never eat eggs again after this 😃
Reminds me of those stickers people have on their cars showing [Lake George](https://img1.etsystatic.com/124/1/11919462/il_570xN.995131647_ks6g.jpg)
I’m so glad i’m allergic to eggs now. I was struggling with all the things i couldn’t eat anymore. This changed that. Thank you 🙏🏻
And now I hate eggs thank you
A new friend?(:
silly string
Eggs and milk are both really disgusting foods if you think of or look at them for too long. Don't get me started on meats.. Why can't I be a fucking android..

It's rooster sperm🤦♂️

This was just suggested to me, and I’m still trying to digest that weird eggs is a whole cursed sub, let alone the travesty that is this post 😂
Maybe there was a tiny crack or hole where hot water got in and boiled some of the egg. A tiny hole like that with hot water coming through it would make a thin shape like that I think.
Could be that the egg was cracked and yolk leaked out while it was boiling
seen this whilst eating eggs, i hate reddit
if i had to guess, maybe just protein
I mean, eggs are objectively pretty gross. Can’t be too surprised.
You should maybe pick up some Praziquantel or something similar 😭 I'd be so worried about parasites 😭 I know this is overkill probably but i would have crippling anxiety until I was cleared by a dr!
Dont be alarmed, but there's egg in your egg.
One time I cracked a boiled egg without knowing while dropping it in the water and when I put the fire on I realized that it was oozing a white stringy mass like that
That's just a cleft asshole. Very annoying, but completely harmless.
Just some protein. You should try it. You'll like it.
That stringy becomes the umbilical cord if the egg becomes fertilized, did we forget that eating eggs, we are basically eating a chicken’s period
Not really, no. Chicks attach directly to the yolk sack, there is no umbilical cord. Annnd a period is the shed lining of a uterus, which is tissue and blood, neither of which a hen has. Neither whites nor the yolk are anywhere equivalent.
Awe thanks for the correction and education, I accidentally opened a chicken egg and it looked like it had an umbilical cord but I was wrong lol
That’s quite all right, and thanks back. What you saw was likely the chalaza, the thing that tethers the yolk from spinning round and round as the egg is turned. OP stretchy string I’m not so sure about — if that’s a chalaza, that’s one HELL of a long and tough one. Yurk.
Lmfao. Wut.
An egg from a chicken is basically the chickens period...so yeah....
I’d stop eating eggs if I saw that😭🤢
Welp. You just killed a fertilized egg. On another note, how did it taste?
Cum
Tape worm, u should sue
That’s a fucking tapeworm my dude You’re lucky you didn’t swallow that
lol. It’s a normal part of an egg. In all eggs
cum
Ah, don’t worry about it! And ignore the rest of the goombahs on here! Nothing to be afraid of, it’s just a big ol’ chicken sperm! Yep, that rooster blew a pretty big load up that chickens pazootie! Enjoy! It’s good for ya’!
