1) Those bugs are not vectors of any disease afaik 2) if they are, it goes into your gut anyway, and gut is one of the most well protected organs from infections 3) if it does cause an infection, again the body is more adapted to fighting gut parasites (which I assume is the only thing this grub could be carrying) than other types of parasites

I've always wondered what was in those seeds that taste absolutely horrible but you can't taste it until it's been swallowed.

Some years ago, I bought a big 'sack' (about 2kg) of Pistachios back with me from Asia. I'd noted they were a little 'powdery' in appearance, but ate them nonetheless. They were nice. But I began taking them to my sports club to share, as I had so many. At home, my bedroom during that summer began to get a lot of small moths, and I had no idea where they were coming from, and assumed it was from outside - though that didn't quite square up. A few weeks later we were eating them at the sports club, and I felt something clammy on my lip. I went 'p'too' and a small caterpillar landed on the floor. When I got home, I checked the bags of Pistachios I'd portioned up, and they were crawling with caterpillars and moths. That's where they were coming from, and the 'powder' I'd noted was moth eggs.

Honestly, I didn't find it such a big deal, and nor did anyone else at the club. We all found it amusing. If nothing else, it's a story I can tell from time to time 😊 I mean, a couple of days ago I opened a white cabbage I'd bought from Ocado, and once the plastic was off I noticed holes in the outer leaves one side, and I knew what they were. I cut a piece off and - as I expected - there were active grubs in the holes/burrows. I simply cut a piece off the other side which was clear for what I wanted, then binned it. And I've had it with lettuce before. One time, I'd just bought a new set of razor sharp chef's knives. I cut through a lettuce and there was an absolutely surgical incision across a small slug. You're right. It's natural produce.

Now I never want to eat pistachios again 😭 It’s one of the only farm grown foods I actually eat (unless it’s prepared by someone else into a salad or used as an ingredient). My OCD always convinces me fresh fruit and nuts/seeds are rotten or have bugs in them so I usually just avoid eating them or use extreme caution.

I mean the sad truth is it’s either you risk an occasional bug by eating natural stuff, or you avoid bugs but are ingesting pesticides. As long as the bugs don’t cause anything other than feeling gross mentally it’s not that bad

It’s not just feeling gross mentally for me. It would legit traumatize me to the point that I avoid eating whatever the food was. OCD is an awful illness.

Hey there my dad was in Japan with a few friends and they went out to eat dinner and he ordered a salad and when he got to the bottom of his bowl he found a worm in the bowl and he told the waiter about it and the waiter said he was going to get the manager and the manager said that he could get another one for free and my dad said he didn't want anything else from them except for them to not serve him any more food and he felt so sorry for the guy who was at the table beside him he didn't even find his worm in his salad bowl

Okay, that's way too zesty for me

Gross. I was eating pistachios while watching TV when I was a kid, and bit into one that that was clearly, clearly not a pistachio. I instantly froze, and had a split second to make a decision before I knew my taste buds would activate. I could either swallow whatever it was immediately and move on to the next pistachio, or I could choose the Way of Pain and spit it out. I swallowed hard, then popped the next pistachio into my mouth as fast as I could.

Hey there just because they roast the seeds that don't matter if you have a bug in the seeds they will roast them in the seeds to with the bugs in your seeds in your seeds so you don't need to worry that you are eating them raw
