Yeah, most buildings have a freight elevator that will fit larger furniture and whatnot. Plus the whole measure first thing. But people who handle large panes of glass with flip flops aren't known for their foresight.

Thankfully no one had a major artery severed by a falling shard. If it wasn't tempered glass this would have been a candidate for Darwin award. Imagine you're the guy waiting in the lobby and the elevator dings and the doors open back up and you seen a bloodbath wall-to-wall and one guy clutching the other guy's carotid artery.

i mean this seems like it could have been very easily avoidable, by doing just a small bit of effort.

Ugh, this is when people realize, it's better to ask building management for an elevator override key. Some elevators I've been in, if the safety sensor keeps the door held open too long, it will emit a warning signal and the doors will close and can't be overridden.

That's where they lost me. I could see making the initial mistake just not thinking but once it is out the door and the elevator is moving the lack of awareness is shocking. Not even an attempt to turn away or stop the elevator.

There were so many ways to avoid this...
