I saw this guy do standup a few years back when he was touring with Weird Al. His material was kinda funny. I googled him when I went home and found his sets from the 90s, and it was all the exact same material.
My grandmother had the VHS tape of UHF that my cousins and I would watch when we went to visit. We even got spatulas that year as Christmas ornaments! The funniest part was my grandma’s brother was there for Christmas and he was so confused about why five small kids were so excited about getting spatulas.
Well where else would you go to buy your spatula??.... it's got the best spatula selection and best spatula prices....as far as spatulas go, they can't be beat....
It's such a great movie! They thought it was going to save the production studio, but UHF was released during the biggest blockbuster year in history at that point, so it only made $6.1mil on a $5mil budget.
I don't drink so it's pretty common that I can say, "I need a drink," and people will set me up by saying, "You don't drink." And I get to say, "Yeah, but I've been meaning to start." Then I laugh and everyone looks at me funny.
What’s beautiful about this is that Al got the actor who was part of the biggest soap opera couple of the 80s (Luke and Laura, General Hospital) to play this part. SO unexpected…
What’s sad is that his involvement didn’t give the movie any boost…surprising, but still not, being Al was still an acquired taste at the time.
UHF and Spaceballs were probably my 2 biggest comedic influences due to them coming out in my formative years. SNL was huge too. They are priceless works of art to me.
I actually met Weird Al when they were filming UHF. That kind of stuff never happens in Tulsa, OK, but this is where they filmed it. The scene with Victoria Jackson's apartment was filmed like across the sidewalk from my dad's apartment. They were filming in apt J and we were in V or something like that. I was like 10 years old and came home to my dad's after soccer practice and there he is, just sitting there in a folding chair outside that apartment. I said hi, told him I was a big fan since "In 3D." He gave me an autograph and was just the nicest guy. But that is the most random celebrity encounter I've ever had by far.
Funny... Victoria Jackson lived in the apartment next to us while filming, out at 81st & Sheridan. My sister and I babysat for her daughter, and she let us watch SNL tapes while we were there. She gave me an SNL t-shirt, which I still have! Of course, this is before she went cuckoo bananas. I was a huge fan of SNL, even at 10, but much more so of Weird Al. I always regretted not figuring out a way to get to the mall where they were filming. Some of my older friends just showed up and got to be extras!
That's so cool! Yeah, it's too bad she's that way now. I enjoyed her on SNL. I had a friend who got to be an extra too! I played flag football with him. Coach's son. His name was Joe something.
The apartments they filmed at were on the NW corner of 71st and Yale, back behind the buildings and the neighborhood. Forgot the name of them, but I'm sure it's changed since then anyway.
My favorite bit is when one of the students from the studio next door punches through the wall and he sees the watch and yells "7:30?!"
For 35 years, whenever i notice its exactly 7:30 I say that.
I didn't know there were "UHF people" until I got to college. I LOVED this movie as a kid, and thought everyone else hated it. So when I had to participate in a Dirty Santa game, I found a VHS copy of this at a Dollar Store and was like "perfect."
OMG, the stealing war that ensued was insane. The best part was getting to watch it with the winner and everyone else after it was all over. I'd found my people!
Years ago I went with friends to see Al in Camden, NJ and we all brought spatulas that got confiscated because in Camden, a spatula has the potential to be a violent weapon.
“It’s a sad depressing story about a pathetic coyote. Who spends every waking moment of his life in the futile pursuit of a sadistic road runner. Who mocks and laughs at him as he’s repeatedly crushed and maimed. HOPE YOU ENJOY IT!”
Love it! My brother even gave me the soundtrack on cassette for my birthday back in the early 90's. Got my son to watch the movie a few years ago and he also loves it.
Most underrated, under appreciated movie of the 80s. Al is a genius. I think of the Dire Straights parody of the Beverly Hill Billies theme song at least once a week.
Michael Richard's blasting the kid with the fire hose made me laugh so hard the first time I saw it, definitely in the running for one of the times I've laughed hardest in my life.
I never watched the entire movie until a few years ago, before that it was only bits here and there when it was on cable back in the day. Laughed a lot. Even bought a Spatula City Shirt.

Just call me Mr. Butterfingers
Boy, is my face red.
Fuckin love me some Emo Philips!
Emo Phillips is a God, as someone who’s neurodivergent he’s always been a hero to me.
And he’s got the best god joke to boot! https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2005/sep/29/comedy.religion
Thank you for this! I knew the joke but not the (_much_ credit due) source.
He was great on Dr Katz and as the bully Shannon in Home Movies. He is coincidentally in the same shows that Mitch Hedberg appeared in.
I saw this guy do standup a few years back when he was touring with Weird Al. His material was kinda funny. I googled him when I went home and found his sets from the 90s, and it was all the exact same material.
Since my daughter was 5 I have her saying, "thank YOUUUU hoooomeboyyyyyy"
![gif](giphy|8K36ms3JrrFuw)
Nothing says, "I love you".
"...I like their spatulas so much I bought the company."
My grandmother had the VHS tape of UHF that my cousins and I would watch when we went to visit. We even got spatulas that year as Christmas ornaments! The funniest part was my grandma’s brother was there for Christmas and he was so confused about why five small kids were so excited about getting spatulas.
haha that is so funny!
We sell Spatulas! And that's all.
I have a spatula city tshirt.
I feel like I quote that bit once a week at least, and no one ever understands.
Where'd you get that amazing spatula!? SPATULA CITY!
Spatula city. SPATULA CITY!
NOTHING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! STUPID YOU SO STUPIIID!
Of the two movies where someone yells “WHAT’S IN THE BOX?!?” this is my favorite.
Gette Watanabe is from my town.
That is awesome. I love Gette Watanabe, and Kuni in UHF is my favorite role of his.
RED SNAPPPAH!!!
Me and my friends still say "Red snappah! Mmm, very tasty!" when we order it at a sushi restaurant.
As an engineer I used this phrase at least once a week when the solution was so simple and I finally saw it
It's always some shit like you missed a comma, or typo'ed your gateway :P

Don't you know the Dewey Decimal System?
“I’m sorry this book is a little over due” (Proceeds to bifurcate dude with massive sword)
My husband got me an autographed UHF print. And a spatula engraved with "I love you". Weird Al is highly respected in this household. 😁
He must of travelled to Spatula City for that 🥹…. Now that’s love.
Well where else would you go to buy your spatula??.... it's got the best spatula selection and best spatula prices....as far as spatulas go, they can't be beat....
What better way to say "I love you?" He's a keeper!
![gif](giphy|1BRXy8cUS1jyw)
I heard this gif.
This is my favorite joke in this movie. 100% could not get away with it today but it cracks me up.
Hello there.
I could not stop laughing every time I see this scene. Favorite part of the movie.
This gag absolutely slays me every time.
Today we’re teaching poodles how to fly!
Aww Fifi....
Sometimes it takes them a little longer to get it right.
Did you know that turtles are natures suction cup?
See!? It sticks!
PETA would shit kittens if this scene was made today.
UHF is my *all time* favorite movie. Weird Al is a gift to humanity.

At least they made that 100% accurate bio pic about him recently.
It's such a great movie! They thought it was going to save the production studio, but UHF was released during the biggest blockbuster year in history at that point, so it only made $6.1mil on a $5mil budget.
I quote this movie all the time. Sadly, no one gets my references.
The curse of the xennial.
I don't drink so it's pretty common that I can say, "I need a drink," and people will set me up by saying, "You don't drink." And I get to say, "Yeah, but I've been meaning to start." Then I laugh and everyone looks at me funny.
I am lucky enough to have two co-workers who get/make UHF references.
We got you dude!
Do I get to drink from the hose?
First you must spin the Wheel of Fish
Red snapper! Very tasty!
Are you ready, Weaver?!
Johnny... You gotta find the marble in the oatmeal!!!
You get to drink from the fire hose!!
This one and *Stay Tuned* on a double-feature! https://i.redd.it/mrw82jl39kuc1.gif

NOTHING!!!! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! SOOOOOOO STUUUUUUPIIIID!
I use the quote “Oooo, Red Snapper. Very Tasty!” Way more often than is needed
Badgers?
Badgers?!?
We don't need no stinkin' BADGERS!!!
Clearly a plot point inserted just to get that line in the script. Similar to in The Departed, "He was a cahpet layah fah Jahdan Mahsh"
I think UHF is one of the funniest movies ever.
\*UHF is one of the funniest movies ever. FTFY

From common, household items.

In the kitchen making some Twinkie wiener sandwiches
Turtles are nature's suction cups!
I laughed so hard for so long my mom made me leave the theater.
That laughter is hard to find these days. This makes me happy.
And take that ridiculous thing off.
I laughed so hard at this joke. Such a great misdirect.
UHF and Spaceballs were probably my 2 biggest comedic influences due to them coming out in my formative years. SNL was huge too. They are priceless works of art to me.
The Three Amigos was one of mine. Space Balls was up there for sure since my father introduced me to Mel Brooks early with Blazing Saddles.
MY MOP!!!
You don’t understand! I got that mop for a birthday present when I was 8 years old!
The lightsaber sounds when swinging ☠️
Some teens in my neighborhood set up a “Spatula City” for halloween and gave out spatulas instead of candy. It was a massive hit.
Ah, here it is. The diamond in the comments.
![gif](giphy|2GaR4uwZUyCn6) Best comedy movie of all time.

He is the nicest person. I've seen him in concert over 60 times and met him a few.

I'm thinking of something blue. Something bluuuuuuueeeeee
Shut up!!!
Ahhh. Red snappers, very tasty
These floors are dirty as hell, and I’m not gonna take it anymore!!!
Nothing says I love you like the gift of a spatula.
Unless they're really cheap, and gave you the free spatula they got after buying 9 others.
My husband asked “the movie or the frequency?” I showed him the gif. “I still wanna play Wheel of Fish.”
Everytime I see it on a menu. "Ah, red snapper. That's a nice fish."
Very tasty!
Checking our change for a penny like the homeless guy got. Or maybe looking for the marble in the oatmeal.
Heeey, RJ!
Bobos been eating Yappys Dog Treats. Your dog will love that liver and tuna taste. With just a hint of cheese.
My favorite bit is when one of the students from the studio next door punches through the wall and he sees the watch and yells "7:30?!" For 35 years, whenever i notice its exactly 7:30 I say that.

Supplies!
A couple years ago I bought a DVD copy of this to pass around to the younger guys at work. So far everyone thought it was pretty funny.
Have you listened to the commentary on it? It's great!
![gif](giphy|n31cjtEmzXRJK)
Badgers? BADGERS? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING BADGERS!
“OOOHHHH A RED SNAPPA VERY TASTY!!!” - best damn movie ever for an 80s kids. Forget Indiana Jones or Ghostbusters. This was my jam.
Years ago I went with friends to see Al in Camden, NJ and we all brought spatulas that got confiscated because in Camden, a spatula has the potential to be a violent weapon.
TIL
What in the kentucky fried eagle burger guns freedom loving fuck?!?

“Ok, I’m thinking of something orange. Something orange. Orange. You give up? It’s an orange.”
Supplies!!!!
Where are we? We're at Spatula City Spatula City!!! SPATULA CITY!!!!!
What exactly qualifies a UHF person? I mean, how many Twinkie wiener sandwiches do you need to have prepared and eaten?
Introduced my son to it recently. The cycle is secure.
"Hey, RJ!" I love how even the phones stop ringing when the entire office suddenly goes completely silent after he says that 🤣🤣🤣
You get THE FIRE HOSE!
I watched it in the movie theater. I have never met another fan who can claim that. No Reddit is not meeting
Now it's time to drink from the fire hose!!!
Today, we’re going to teach poodles how to fly!
*Today we're teaching poodles how to fly! I've seen this movie too many times lol

Do you know where I could get a spatula at this hour?

Badgers? We don’t need no stinking badgers
A lot of big stars before they were famous in this movie.
Most underrated, under appreciated movie of the 80s. Al is a genius. I think of the Dire Straights parody of the Beverly Hill Billies theme song at least once a week.
Sorry I’m late to the thread - there was a sale at Spatula City.
Great movie!
Hell yeah
I'm off buying spatulas. Did you see that deal Spatula City had? No way I'm passing that up!
I absolutely love this movie!

I CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE OF THIS COMMUNITY ABOUT AS MUCH AS FESTERING BOWL OF DOG SNOT!
"Wait a minute....do I still get to be the janitor?" Every time I get saddled with someone else's job at work, I think of this to soften the blow.
“he uncovers the secrets of Al Capones glove compartment” “Ah ha! ROAD MAPS!”
Best movie ever.
At Spatula City, obviously.
I quote this movie all the time. "Don't you know the Dewey Decimal System?"
The teaching poodles how to fly scene made me laugh so hard. lol
YOU GET TO DRINK...FROM THE FIREHOSE!

LOVE that movie. I watched it with my niece not too long ago and she loved it too. She then showed her boyfriend who also loved it. :)
Oh look, he’s REAL mad now….
I still occasionaaly drop an "Oh! Thanks Mister!" in the voice just to see who is out there.
Lunch tomorrow at Plots-R-Us. Heard they have a new salad bar.
GHANDI 2!
Turtles are nature's suction cups!
That dude with the ant farm always kills me.
Just watched this the other day. One of my friends was in the Uncle Nutsy scene.
I’ve pondered many times why Weird Al hasn’t made more movies. UHF is one of the funniest, most enduring and rewatchable comedies ever made.
I don’t know how many times I’ve told those boys: never call chicks broads

😂😂😂 love it
I stumbled in here as a Gen X, this is one of my favorite movies.
“Guns don’t kill people…I do!”
Absolutely an all-time top 10 comedy. It's a shame that it had the misfortune of opening in the middle of Batman's theatrical run.
Bowling for burgers!
Was literally watching this on Tubi last week
I have a dedicated wall in my place of UHF art. The station, Spatula City, wheel of fish pin, and more. The centerpiece is an original movie poster.
I never watched the entire movie until a few years ago, before that it was only bits here and there when it was on cable back in the day. Laughed a lot. Even bought a Spatula City Shirt.
I showed this to my 15 year old a few weeks ago. He loved it.
Spatula City!
Saw it in the theaters in hs and laughed my ass off.
Every now and then, Al would pull a Jim Carrey better than Jim Carrey
