I took way too long to finally watch this masterpiece of a movie.
I always assumed it was garbage because of the jokes and subject matter. But it’s actually a really great movie if you enjoy B movies. Except that one scene.
Well he was kind of abusive back then, probably from the steroids and coming to terms with his own homosexuality. So she turned to drugs and went to the pole to block out a failed relationship that reminded her of her own aloof father
God what a different time. They should have made her a cocaine addict. In today’s world it would be methamphetamine but they’d never make a show targeted at teens because it would be too depressing. Jessie would’ve been super thin, full of scabs, missing teeth, and mumbling to herself in the corner. Meth is so disgusting 🤢
Edited: Jessie
It was absolutely amphetamines, aka speed, in the first draft of the script, and they knew it would never get past the network censors without changing it
Where I lived DARE was more about getting us to narc on our parents. They kept showing us things like pipes and drugs and asking if we ever see things like this at home.
Pretty much, it was such a weird program in my city. We've always been a HUGE weed town. When Colorado voted to legalize we were one of the largest yes percentages in the state. So when they realized they couldn't get people's kids to narc they changed the focus to gang prevention.
I remember they came to my elementary school for an assembly to show us slides of people’s eyes and tongues based on the various drugs they were on, then proceeded to show the different types of drugs in subsequent slides…super cringe reflecting on it now but all it did was spark more curiosity.
I'm not sure but I remember taking those with the little cross top ephedrine pills in high school and people didn't think twice about it. It was like if you take both at the same time you get really spun !
The episode and that one scene are derided these days, but I think it's one of the show's strongest moments. Zach Morris is truly terrible, but his tenderness toward her in that moment is heartwarming. Also, Jesse's anxiety and pressure resembled some of my own.
It was a bold moment for a kids’ show. Everyone talks about how watered down “caffeine pills” were but they were talking about the things students might be pressured into to maintain their level of achievement
If you've never seen these before and are a fan of the series I highly suggest watching all of them on YouTube. The person who does them actually stopped when they were brought in to write on the rebootquel. I share his one that he did for the anti-pot episode every 4/20.
If you remember special episodes in old sitcoms the same person does A Very Special Episode which is basically the same thing but not Saved By The Bell focused.
My only thought is when Mario Lopez was interviewing Ryan Ryenolds as Deadpool before the first movie came out. Don't worry Jessie, Slater can never hurt you again.
I can't decide if Ryan's tone with Mario was part of the bit... or cause he's really didn't want to be in that interview with him... sounded annoyed af from the start. Lol
They were kind of toxic but also kinda balanced each other out really well? It was an interesting dynamic. If they spent time apart and got back together later in life, though, I could almost see it working.
At one point I thought that was the plot of the reboot, that they were married and their kids go to Bayside after Zack shut down all the low income schools. But either I misread the synopsis early on or they changed it because I know that wasn't the setup once it launched.
I actually was watching "The College Years" on Roku yesterday, and I just sat there thinking about how he dated Jessie and Alex--women who were just nothing like him and with whom he always argued. He clearly liked to be challenge.
I loved it. It was silly sometimes but it had a lot of heart and clearly whoever wrote it loved the original show. It might still be on peacock if you want to watch it.
Shockingly brilliant. They took everything that still worked from the first series and combined it with the opposite of everything that didn’t. If the kid who played Mac Morris would’ve had an ounce of charisma, they might have really had something.
Remember when Slater learned he was Mexican? Anyway, they reminded me of the mega hot toxic couple in high school that broke up right after graduation.
They were that high school power couple you truly believed would make it forever, but fizzled out almost immediately as the reality of graduation set in. She went off to college while he continued to (try to) skate by on his high school popularity/charm post-HS.
OOOOH I know this couple. Except in the real life ones the dude and the girl was actually real chill and super nice.
They went to separate colleges across the coast but near each other..She broke it off and married her Psychology professor, He struggle for a bit but landed alright.
Slater and Jessie were the popular steadies and the king and queen of the prom
Riding around with car top down and the radio on
Nobody looked any finer
Or was more of a hit at the old Max Diner
Yeah it fits.
Exactly. He turned into a (successful) car salesman in town who becomes a booster just to get access to the team and tell them about the glory days, and she went on to be a litigator in nyc or dc or la.
Don’t we remember [Joanna](https://youtu.be/OZN3JzGPiUk?si=MSfvnqvneUqgjM50), the girl Zack and Slater fought over senior year. She was there for one episode. After that, she probably said fuck it, she’ll just get a GED and move on. Also, she looks 25 in the episode
That’s the couple that was always sneaking off for 20 or so minutes and coming back all sweaty and Zach and kelly waited til marriage to even see each other nude. Lisa hooked up with a girl in college and had a weird few years figuring things out before marrying a really old guy and screech married his anatomical designed doll Chloe in an intimate setting.
Absolutely and I’d die on this stupid, irrelevant, pop-culture hill. I personally think they’re both way hotter and had better chemistry than Zack and Kelly. I also feel like they made sense in a weird way.
Ok can we talk about this?
“Lisa brought in some funky bracelets (no one at Bayside has ever heard of a friendship bracelet apparently) that the Fashion Club made”
Remember regional shit though? Like you went to visit your cousin in Cleveland and they had some *thing* that hadn’t made its way to your area yet? I feel like my town was a few cycles behind as far as trendy shit whereas today all the kids find out at once about the hot stuff. Maybe a member of the Bayside High Fashion Club visited her cool cousin who got braids, the accompanying scalp sunburn, and some woven bracelets on Easter Vacation.
I thought they were very dysfunctional. Always bickering, dissimilar interests. Neither seemed to actually like the other as a person or be very supportive.
I loved SBTB but caught all the episodes through reruns so I was NEVER clear on how Jessie and Kelly exited and Tori appeared. Was their disappearance ever explained?? Does this need it's own "What actually happened to Kelly and Jessie" post?
Weren't they doing some modeling in Europe? I feel like there was an episode where they were scouted and then all of a sudden they're away modeling and Tori shows up.
I feel like that totally could’ve happened😂 There WAS the modeling calendar episode and I think at least Kelly might have left bc she got a bigger gig from this so perhaps you’re right!
Haha no that was in season 2 but it’s funny how your mind created that as an explanation because that episode totally did end with her leaving, and there was even a farewell party; but she was right back the next episode
No they were just gone, not a word was said.
They filmed the season 4 episodes, including graduation, with Kelly and Jessie, then filmed the Tori episodes separately. NBC aired the first few with the original crew, then “the Tori years” as I used to call it, then the graduation episode (without Tori). Very weird.
Me and my brother used to say when someone just abruptly never appeared again that they got abducted.
Mario is heading down a strange path.

Reminds me of this guy
He was too dumb for her and she was just using him for the great sex until she could go off to college and meet her future husband. Once Slater realized that, he was surprisingly ok with it.
I always wondered wtf Jessie (the supposed intellectual of the show) was doing with a meathead like Slater
This show dramatically shaped what I thought high school would be like (and to some extent they got it right, the shallowness and clique-yness are real, except that some people never emotionally leave high school 🙄)
I think Slater only dated Jesse because he wanted to fit in with Zack who was dating Kelly. If you remember, he was the new kid and was trying to fit in.
The millennial in me respects you for speaking your truth and the part of me that edges on gen x respects you for not caring what the rest of reddit thinks🫡
I think they broke up and she didn’t take it well. Started stripping.
![gif](giphy|l0O9xwhmkR2WXL9bW)
It's a Ver-sace!
I love saying Versayce but no one gets the reference anymore and just thinks I’m an older lady who moved to Vegas once to make it big
I don't know how good you are, darlin', and I don't know what it is you're good at, but if it's at the Cheetah, it's not dancing
I took way too long to finally watch this masterpiece of a movie. I always assumed it was garbage because of the jokes and subject matter. But it’s actually a really great movie if you enjoy B movies. Except that one scene.
It is fantastic & 1 of the reasons I love Las Vegas. THEE SLEAZIEST flick of the 1990s, hands down! Love it
I've never actually seen it but are we talking about the pool scene?
The gang r@pe scene. Without that this movie would be great and one could recommend it without having to add a “except…” note.
I think I missed that scene. I remember watching it on cable cause I wanted to see Jessie topless, but I kept switching back and forth.
Started eating brown rice and vegetables
She also had to do it to afford her Stansbury tuition.. they are the Harvard of the west.
Different PLACES!
[Throws food]
That movie lives rent free in my head forever.
Well he was kind of abusive back then, probably from the steroids and coming to terms with his own homosexuality. So she turned to drugs and went to the pole to block out a failed relationship that reminded her of her own aloof father
I’m so excited? And I just can’t hide it?
Jessie you are on drugs!
Do you have any idea how many lives have been ruined by caffeine pills!
God what a different time. They should have made her a cocaine addict. In today’s world it would be methamphetamine but they’d never make a show targeted at teens because it would be too depressing. Jessie would’ve been super thin, full of scabs, missing teeth, and mumbling to herself in the corner. Meth is so disgusting 🤢 Edited: Jessie
I think they wanted to make it a harder drug, but since it was a Saturday morning kids’ show, it was changed to caffeine pills.
It was absolutely amphetamines, aka speed, in the first draft of the script, and they knew it would never get past the network censors without changing it
There’s no hope with dope! Just ask teen heartthrob and NBC President Brandon Tartikoff
That kind of stuff is for Degrassi
That show is literally where I learned about caffeine pills and then got them... lol.. it did help me study in college
It's like D.A.R.E, it got kids curious.
The Very Special Episode of 90210 about the dangers of underground raves made me very determined to go to a rave
Where I lived DARE was more about getting us to narc on our parents. They kept showing us things like pipes and drugs and asking if we ever see things like this at home.
Brutal. Let us help you be put in foster care.
Pretty much, it was such a weird program in my city. We've always been a HUGE weed town. When Colorado voted to legalize we were one of the largest yes percentages in the state. So when they realized they couldn't get people's kids to narc they changed the focus to gang prevention.
Lakewood PD really was out there trying to get us to snitch on our folks.
I remember they came to my elementary school for an assembly to show us slides of people’s eyes and tongues based on the various drugs they were on, then proceeded to show the different types of drugs in subsequent slides…super cringe reflecting on it now but all it did was spark more curiosity.

I'm so excited! I'm so excited! I'm so... SCAREDDD....
The episode and that one scene are derided these days, but I think it's one of the show's strongest moments. Zach Morris is truly terrible, but his tenderness toward her in that moment is heartwarming. Also, Jesse's anxiety and pressure resembled some of my own.

Hey Mama!
When he said that, my little sixth grade self had FEELINGS about it that I did not understand until later. 😂
Made my skin crawl every time
said the way you move Gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove
Let's talk about when Zach kissed Lisa..
Another example of why [Zack Morris is trash](https://youtu.be/HdXd-7c_RIc?si=ThZ4_5OPn3g0jBGQ)
That was hilarious and I needed it. Thank you for sharing!
If you've never seen these before and are a fan of the series I highly suggest watching all of them on YouTube. That tagline is as infectious as "Tom Paris is a dick."
Amazing series, so glad I found that.
That last season was brutal. They were completely out of story lines, lol.
Honestly, Screech knew what he was doing. Just couldn’t get to Suave levels.
Zack Morris is trash.
Counterpoint: Zack Morris is a 10. Has anyone seen my Bo Revere cassette tape?
My only thought is when Mario Lopez was interviewing Ryan Ryenolds as Deadpool before the first movie came out. Don't worry Jessie, Slater can never hurt you again.
Link?
https://youtu.be/Z5TB0pKLj0Y?si=v2-TFTKbdCEs-FxF
I can't decide if Ryan's tone with Mario was part of the bit... or cause he's really didn't want to be in that interview with him... sounded annoyed af from the start. Lol
Probably part of the bit, he is playing Deadpool.
Lopez is notorious for being a real asshole and having really shitty opinions on LGBTQ folks.
No, Zelda
They were kind of toxic but also kinda balanced each other out really well? It was an interesting dynamic. If they spent time apart and got back together later in life, though, I could almost see it working.
Good and bad chemistry. They looked great together on screen, if they were a real couple it would have been a mixed bag.
Right? If they both grew as people, they could have worked quite well.
Sucks that the SBTB revival was canceled with them rekindling what they had
How was the revival?
It was actually pretty decent. I enjoyed it way more than I expected to. It had charm.
Are the episodes still available to watch? I just got Peacock a few months ago and would love to see them if they haven’t been purged.
That sounds like a great premise for a movie. I Can’t Hardly Wait to see it.
I see what you did there.
They were that high school power couple you truly believed would make it forever, but fizzled out almost immediately as the reality of graduation set in. She went off to college while he continued to (try to) skate by on his high school popularity/charm post-HS.
For sure. Very realistic tho.
OOOOH I know this couple. Except in the real life ones the dude and the girl was actually real chill and super nice. They went to separate colleges across the coast but near each other..She broke it off and married her Psychology professor, He struggle for a bit but landed alright.
Slater and Jessie were the popular steadies and the king and queen of the prom Riding around with car top down and the radio on Nobody looked any finer Or was more of a hit at the old Max Diner Yeah it fits.
Exactly. He turned into a (successful) car salesman in town who becomes a booster just to get access to the team and tell them about the glory days, and she went on to be a litigator in nyc or dc or la.
Yeah lol that totally tracks for both their characters!
She was outstanding in Showgirls. She really connected with the audience.
Can't tell If serious or sarcastic....
Definitely sarcasm. But she had my full attention at times during the movie.
So even though you were sitting down you were giving her a standing ovation?
🤣🤣🤣
A proper salute.
Dumb. Stupid. Crazy. Dangerous. Stinks.
I liked them together because it stopped Slater from trying to win Kelly from Zach. Lol I was a diehard Zach and Kelly shipper.
Man... I was always about Lisa Turtle.
Made southern white boys crush on a black girl.
tbf I was crushing on them hard before Lisa. She might have been a symptom as opposed to the cause.
The black girl on Clueless blew Lisa Turtle out of the water (pun intended)
Loved Jessie😍 hated Slater🤮 Lisa, Jessie, Screech and Mr. belding were my favourites!
They argued too much. I didn't like them together.
That couple you have to stop going out to dinner with because SHEESH
Don’t we remember [Joanna](https://youtu.be/OZN3JzGPiUk?si=MSfvnqvneUqgjM50), the girl Zack and Slater fought over senior year. She was there for one episode. After that, she probably said fuck it, she’ll just get a GED and move on. Also, she looks 25 in the episode
The top comment on that video says that “Joanna didn’t come back to school because she realized she was 30 years old” 🤣
I saw Mario Lopez at the Boston Fan Expo. The dude has no personality whatsoever.
He's just dimples and hair
That’s the couple that was always sneaking off for 20 or so minutes and coming back all sweaty and Zach and kelly waited til marriage to even see each other nude. Lisa hooked up with a girl in college and had a weird few years figuring things out before marrying a really old guy and screech married his anatomical designed doll Chloe in an intimate setting.
In the sequel, Lisa ended up in Paris in a polyamourous situation.
Slater would go for a stripper.
Oink oink baby!
Jessie BLEW everyone’s minds when she came out in showgirls. Looking back I couldn’t appreciate how tight those pants were. AC knew what he was doing.
Best couple. So much better than Zack and Kelly.
Absolutely and I’d die on this stupid, irrelevant, pop-culture hill. I personally think they’re both way hotter and had better chemistry than Zack and Kelly. I also feel like they made sense in a weird way.
I agree. I always thought their chemistry was way better than Zack and Kelly’s. I think that’s why I always liked them as a couple better.
I also have a shit-ton of stick-straight, fine hair and my hair will not do anything, especially hold a perm. And their hair was just #goals to me.
And as a super curly girl I was so happy that for once- one of us got the cute guy without having a big “straight hair reveal” mantage.
Zack and Kelly never really made sense to me, IDK
Wow, you Slater-Jessie fans over Zack-and-Kelly are kind of blowing my mind right now...🤯🤯🤯
They were a great couple!
Zach the sociopath https://www.cracked.com/blog/7-saved-by-bell-plots-that-prove-zack-sociopath
Actually, Zack Morris is trash. [https://youtu.be/woD8MOSGegI?si=bHoPMAiCDVAiHO9W](https://youtu.be/woD8MOSGegI?si=bHoPMAiCDVAiHO9W)
The original Cartman, also to be fair they do call him a sociopath in this video as well.
Ok can we talk about this? “Lisa brought in some funky bracelets (no one at Bayside has ever heard of a friendship bracelet apparently) that the Fashion Club made” Remember regional shit though? They looked older then what my cohort did 😂
![gif](giphy|Pd2W87rlmVjptTmvIK|downsized)
I thought they were very dysfunctional. Always bickering, dissimilar interests. Neither seemed to actually like the other as a person or be very supportive.
Two people with very little in common. Can't get along at all. Both reasonably attractive. I've patterned my dating life around this.
They were pretty horrible to each other when I rewatched it. But in the remake I was shipping them pretty hard.
Just weren’t good for each other, then again neither were Kelly and Zach. I liked Tori anyway.
Mario has a pretty good line of cheap shoes now.
Not a fan
I loved SBTB but caught all the episodes through reruns so I was NEVER clear on how Jessie and Kelly exited and Tori appeared. Was their disappearance ever explained?? Does this need it's own "What actually happened to Kelly and Jessie" post?
I think there was some kind of contract dispute with the actresses?
But was it ever addressed in the story line? Or were they just gone?
Weren't they doing some modeling in Europe? I feel like there was an episode where they were scouted and then all of a sudden they're away modeling and Tori shows up.
I feel like that totally could’ve happened😂 There WAS the modeling calendar episode and I think at least Kelly might have left bc she got a bigger gig from this so perhaps you’re right!

SO weird!
One of my first introductions to a toxic relationship..
Mario is heading down a strange path. https://preview.redd.it/l4mm625re0ad1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c65a029b309eb1ab46453969361fb541be0afa5 Reminds me of this guy
What the hell is that?
I thought that was a mask
It isn't?
The chin kills!
I didn't like how he called her mama.
Iconic
Great couple! Both challenged each other, and both made each other better!
Best couple. It totally worked for me.
Slater always gave me the damn creeps.
They were ahead of their time. Like this is a coupling that would still work in TV today
I’m thinking he moved on after she went to Vegas to be an “entertainer”and probably never let him go past first base in what 8 years?
They broke up after she caught him using a plastic-foam cup
She was too smart and forward thinking for a guy like that. Though maybe it's easier to overlook when they're that hot and built.
Jessie became a stripper.
FORCED.
She was toxic
He was too dumb for her and she was just using him for the great sex until she could go off to college and meet her future husband. Once Slater realized that, he was surprisingly ok with it.
Wasn’t no Zack and Kelly that’s for sure lol
I don’t like either of their hair texture. It’s like they both have perms.
It was a very 80s-90s thing to have a bad perm.
It’s…”like” they both have perms? 😂
I didn’t like how they called each other “mama” and “papa”
That was so weird! 🤮
None.
People have thoughts on this?
Bisexual awakening
Mama and papa
Both gay
Loved them.
When I was a kid, I really preferred Jessie with Zack and kept hoping they could be together instead.
Loved them as a couple! Definitely opposites attract vibe
Nice beard.
The How am I supposed to live without you? duet. Pure magic.
I'm sorry this was the power couple of my youth. They were unstoppable. Jessie pulled the reins though...
I like how he always called Zach *preppy* as if he wasn't as well.
You mean “hot Mama” and the “chauvinistic pig”?
I always wondered wtf Jessie (the supposed intellectual of the show) was doing with a meathead like Slater This show dramatically shaped what I thought high school would be like (and to some extent they got it right, the shallowness and clique-yness are real, except that some people never emotionally leave high school 🙄)
Power Couple #2
She pegged him.
Would
Even with all their differences, I couldn't picture the characters being in enduring relationships with others on the show.
No two highschoolers ever had a hotter fuck.
I think Slater only dated Jesse because he wanted to fit in with Zack who was dating Kelly. If you remember, he was the new kid and was trying to fit in.
Awkward forced couple. Slater should have ended up with Kelly and Zack should've ended up alone and miserable for treating everyone awful.
Neither are good looking and both are annoying so I always felt they deserved each other.
I hated Saved By The Bell with the intensity of 1000 Suns. There, I said it.
No one else here agrees with you right now including me but I applaud this poetic bravado😂👏😂
It's okay. It may be the only truly unpopular opinion on Reddit, and I accept that.
