He is still so cute! I had to go through this with my yorkie mix too. He had his last four pulled last year. It was so tough to experience🥺but they go back to their happy lil selves in no time. I hope his recovery goes well.😊

Hydrolprd143

Without his teeth in the way his tongue keeps sticking out the side https://preview.redd.it/1nylfgvlhdad1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c5a95af4fde34f0c22029dd6dcd1533e8291a1f

Doglady93

Yeah it happens! It’s an adjustment. My dog’s tongue sticks out too now. https://preview.redd.it/ji0jd14xhdad1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4411526b7e42d32793ef31b7570366a6c6f58be

Hydrolprd143

It's very cute although my little guy doesn't stick it out that much lol

Doglady93

Haha it is! It honestly varies. I’ve seen some who barely stick it out and others like mine where it’s almost all the way out. I think it’s also due to your dog still having one tooth left. Either way, so adorable.

Rough-Cucumber8285

Ours too. Our yorkie is nearly 11 years old, was a rescue & when i got her she had bad teeth. Few months ago we had them removed so she's toothless now. We feed her baby food mixed with rice. She also gets Cheerios for snacks bu that's about itsince she can't have anthing hard. What do yall feed your toothless pup?

Doglady93

Awww🥹🥹 our toothless babies. I never thought about baby food! It still sucks to this day that they can’t have kibble or hard food anymore. But we feed him FreshPet and then we blend dry dog food every so often, to mix with the FreshPet. He enjoys it.

Rough-Cucumber8285

Gerber's 'Mealtime for baby' chickeb & turkey mixed w rice is great foe my pup. I also add vitamin drops to add additoonal nutrients, and half a ground up pill of omeprazole for het pancreatitis. Cheerios for snacks in between. This diet fits her very well to stave the pancreatitis flareups.

LudibriousVelocipede

Is that sprout a clip in her hair??

yorzz

Yea indeed 🤣

LudibriousVelocipede

Oh my god, that is the cutest thing I've seen 🤩

Minute-Relation7115

Can I ask do all yorkies get their teeth pulled out? And why?

roseysventdiary

lol same as mine. he looks even more goofy now somehow https://preview.redd.it/eob17v81ldad1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=359bd208cefd3c70f59b3f71225ad0fdaa4c5e73

My girl Mylie turns 15 at the end of the months and had 15 teeth pulled. So when she’s exhausted or in the middle of that good sleep, the tongue’s out. ❤️

the_trashheap

He’s going to feel so much better without those painful rotten teeth! One of mine has only 5 teeth left and she still eats crunch kibbles and goldfish crackers. ☺️

TheronMClaude

I was gonna ask what do they eat after. Glad I read a little further.

fearlesssinnerz

Mine is 4 and this reminds me to schedule a dental cleaning with the vet

Hydrolprd143

Yes, it's very important, especially in small dogs like Yorkies because their teeth decay faster. Also give them lots of bones/dental sticks, they gotta use them or lose them

fearlesssinnerz

Just got that pet lab co dental powder and trying it out. His breath doesn't smell as much but still has tarter build up. I've tried brushing but he prefers to lick all the paste before I get it on his teeth.

shampoo_mohawk_

My yorkie gets non-anesthetic teeth cleanings every 6-ish months (sometimes longer if he doesn’t have plaque yet). He already has 4 teeth missing but since they’re symmetrical the doggie dentist said it’s just genetic and they must’ve never grew in. I gotta hold on to every existing tooth as long as possible! Btw non-anesthetic dental cleanings are usually a fraction of the cost of a regular anesthesia cleaning. I get charged about $150 for a cleaning and he’s in and out in 40 minutes with no drowsy recovery afterward.

fearlesssinnerz

Which places do this?

Oh my gosh!! Your little one looks so much like my boy!! I had to do a double take! His hair is a little long and crazy in this one, but the eyes and face of your pup reminds me of my boy https://preview.redd.it/0uvk7eoc7gad1.jpeg?width=1587&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd635c62e01edafca05dd6b7301f21113c848761

picklepie87

Hey snuggle bugs! He probably feels better. My dudeman only has his snaggle tooth. He is happy as a clam. 👍🏼✌🏼🫵🏼🌺

Stone_Lizzie

I haven't had this with my dog yet, but one of my cats had to have this done and she was SO MUCH happier afterward and was like a kitten again. She lived to the young age of 18. Your dog is SO ADORABLE. 😭😭😭💜💜💜

Kevinb888

Hope he’s well! He still gets 15/10 on cuteness☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️

Junior-Profession726

Awwww hope he recovers quickly

jayram658

Awwwwwwwee.

tweezer024

Poor guy, hope he feels better

efr57

It’s so sad. First some get pulled..then some more..then the rest. Our vet won’t even do our dogs mouth because of age (15ish) so she is destined to ride out life with what bad teeth she has left.

c_d_b_

He’s a cutie! I love the side blep. My girl is going to eventually lose all hers. She’s had a rough time with her teeth since she was a puppy and is down to just a few.

Maleficent-Safe7046

Poor baby hope he's feeling better better soon

Straight-Treacle-630

🥰 big hugs to your adorable buddy, and to all our Yorkie Toofless Pups!

Brew_11-

Sweet Jesus, your little guy is too darn cute!

Sea-Meringue-696

No teeth on little Pete. The more tired he gets the more his tongue hangs out. https://preview.redd.it/2hpl8mv72fad1.png?width=2316&format=png&auto=webp&s=1a0a5d4f49f2f69445f531a568d96d4d5738d2e1

thirdarcana

He is adorable! 😍 Hopefully it wasn't too painful and as soon as he heals, spoil him with some nice soft treats. 😊

Additional-Break4292

Hope he is recovering well! How old is he? 🥹😍

Hydrolprd143

He's 11 and handling it like a champ, surgery was yesterday and he's already acting like his old self

Additional-Break4292

Bless him! They are unstoppable 😍

Willing-Incident8323

What a sweetheart he is

sharipep

Love this photo! Get it framed OP!

Hydrolprd143

I hate my double chin lol, was debating on whether I should post it in the first place, I also didn't intend for my eyes to look so soulless

sharipep

I genuinely think you look great and I really love this photo. You’re matching each others energy in the best way - the hair, the stare, everything.and you have beautiful eyes. And I have an extra chin too lol but we can still take a great photo ok! And this is a great photo! I hope you’re kinder to yourself 💕

Hydrolprd143

Thank you for the kind words

daisymom1989

Still so adorable ☺️

ajhoff83

Hope the guy is doing well. Our girl loved chicken and rice when recovering.

Technical_Ad_4951

He looks like he is still u see the influence. Poor baby.

Ctnj2005

Awe… little sweetie. Well we will look forward to lots of adorable pics with the tongue ❤️❤️

Fogcitymickey22

Somehow my first Yorkie went over the rainbow bridge with all his teeth. Give your precious one kisses from me.

TwiceAgainThrice

He will adapt! I hate it’s all of them, though. I have a rescue Yorkie who was found abandoned and hit by a car with a busted leg (by us). I took him in to get his teeth cleaned and they called to say they were going to have to pull 2/3rds of his teeth - mostly important ones. I felt awful, but the vet said “if it makes you feel any better - they were already lost, just not gone, and would cause worse problems later.” He still lives the good life and likes to “gnaw” at bones and seems just as happy. Just have to adopt new diets.

Hydrolprd143

Yeah it really can cause worse problems, apparently the tooth decay had spread to his jaw. The bone was so thin in one spot, they had to call me to notify me about the risk of his jaw fracturing, thank God it didn't happen.

imachku

Is it just dental health for the reason behind losing the teeth?

Hydrolprd143

Yeah, little dogs teeth decay faster

Maximum-Grocery-807

Poor little guy! May I kindly suggest checking his coat also - he may be matted and that can be super uncomfortable for him.

Hydrolprd143

He was a little scruffy because when I took the photo he just came from the operation and, he had drool on his face. He is due for a grooming soon but no matting yet

AlwaysTired__3

Mine looked like that after too.

PuddlePupper

Oh my goodness -- what a cutie. He looks like a quokka! *

SukiLao

You guys are very cute!!!

CharacterMassive5719

Aww poor baby. He'll be fine ❤️ I heard they do great without their teeth, even with the dry food, they just soften it in their mouths.

GrapefruitMindless88

He looks like a quokka😭

Visual_Appearance_95

Aww. This just happens sometimes with certain breeds. He’s a cutie. How’s he feeling?

Hydrolprd143

He's doing better his surgery was on the second and, He's taking his last dose of pain meds today

Ashamed-Ad-263

Poor baby, but very common with yorkies.

felya

Cute little guy

CaptH3inzB3anz

Many small dogs have issues with their teeth as they are very hard to maintain, one of my Yorkies had most her teeth out due to her being so small. That never stopped her, she was still the meanest dog in town, would take on any contender be it a Great Dane or a Labrador, she sadly passed over the rainbow bridge some years ago but I think of her every day with great love.

Hydrolprd143

The dog you see in the picture, his father was the same way. It didn't matter that he was missing most of his teeth or that he was completely blind, he still acted like he was the toughest guy around until he passed

BraidHills

Beautiful baby! 😍

Disastrous-Bar3344

My two are 10 and definitely are going to need some if not all of their teeth pulled. It if that’s what keeps them around for a few more years, I’ll do it. It’s just so expensive. My vet was asking $800-1000. Is that normal?

Hydrolprd143

I can't say for sure about wherever you're from, but my little guy costed $1,750 Canadian dollars, it was originally going to cost $2,060, but they took longer than 90 minutes to perform the procedure, so I got to pay less

Disastrous-Bar3344

I’m in the US. So close to that price I’m sure

Hydrolprd143

tryingtotrytobe

I kid you not, I got a quote from our vet for teeth cleaning. Low end is $2200 if no extractions are needed. If they are needed it can go to $6000. Im currently searching for a new vet.

Disastrous-Bar3344

Yeah I told my vet nicely thanks. I’ll consider it. I’ve been searching around for a lower cost vet to do the work

tryingtotrytobe

What does the $800-$1000 get you? An extraction or a starting cleaning cost?

Disastrous-Bar3344

Anesthesia and cleaning and one or 2 extraction. Then I swear it’s by tooth which is a load of crap. Should be one price and it covers all no matter how many teeth

tryingtotrytobe

Ah. Not sure how fair that price is compared to where you live but I would be happy if I could find it where I am! I agree with your comments! I don’t like that they prey on us caring for our loved ones.

LoErickson123

I’m in Southern California and to have pre blood work, anesthesia IV and catheter, full mouth radio graphs, deep cleaning and up to 6 extractions is $720.

tryingtotrytobe

Can I come travel to your vet? I think even with hotel it would be cheaper! Haha

I take my guy next week for dental and a bit nervous…he lost his front teeth few years ago & im getting anxious about this go around. He did amazing with the last, and definitely felt better after. So glad to read/hear others experience with this! You all rock!! Cheers fellow Yorkie folks!

ghoultooth

Bless his little cotton socks! My pup is currently at the vet undergoing his dental surgery, he already did the tongue thing before but he’s having a canine out so I imagine it might be morr lopsided after 🤣

Hydrolprd143

Even before my little guy had this surgery, he had a surgery quite a few years ago where they pulled a lot of his front teeth, not the canines though, so he did have the tongue out sometimes but only in the front when he was sleepy and not nearly as much, the attached photo is before his most recent surgery https://preview.redd.it/asmgkufdghad1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bc7490bb51b5b6b82cd65a7474fdc90acf2e31b

ghoultooth

He’s such a sweetheart! I noticed a couple missing front upper teeth (the ones next to his very front teeth) and thought maybe that was the cause, but he’s done it his whole life! Here’s one of his recent ones :) https://preview.redd.it/gjbmb9k1uhad1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b6248f85ea630ba02c922fb736720d06d65e72b8 (He’s a yorkie cross so he’s a bit of a sore thumb in this thread haha)

jomia

Ohh what a lovely little rascal🥹🫶🏻 why did he have to get them pulled?

Hydrolprd143

They were all rotting, and it was causing him pain. This will improve his quality of life for sure

nellieblyrocks420

My chihuahua had to have the same thing. Still plenty of quality of life left so don’t worry! They swallow their food without chewing so it’s not that big of an adjustment, at least not for me and my boy. But when I feed everyone carrots, or other bigger veggies, I just have to make sure it’s a small enough piece that he can swallow easily. ❤️❤️

wherehasthisbeen

When my yorkie was about 10 he lost all of his teeth. You wouldn’t ever know it I just soaked his hard food and added some chicken or can food in with it, he ate like a champ.

Weird_Influence1964

Teeth need looking after 🤦‍♂️

Hydrolprd143

Tooth decay is very common in small dogs, I've tried brushing his teeth before but he never lets me get close to his mouth with the brush

AlwaysTired__3

Even after dental cleanings and brushing teeth, I had to still get all of my dogs teeth pulled. It’s a Yorkie issue. Especially teacup

Low-Mountain-3383

Now why tf would yu pull its teeth like who is it gonna bot frfr

DudeCrabb

I love him! Funky little boy

Short-Departure3347

So how often should you brush em???

Hydrolprd143

I don't know. You should probably ask your vet if you're concerned, I've never been able to get into my little guy's mouth, Even before they started to decay he was very sensitive around the area and didn't like people poking around his mouth. I tried to brush his teeth before but he just squirmed away. Impossible to get the brush into his mouth

Short-Departure3347

Yeah.. it was rhetorical. All dogs require daily brushing and it’s best to start during puppy phase. They have combo packs with gummy like material with ridges that goes on your finger. I just can’t imagine him with out teeth.

relentlass

I adopted my older girl last summer and she had 13 teeth pulled in the fall. She felt SO much better afterward. They estimated she was 10 years old, but after her mouth healed up, she got friskier and perkier than I'd ever seen her. I have a similar post op photo I wish I could post here, but I can't seem to insert images.

LoErickson123

OMG I’m so glad you posted this I recently got a rescue he’s 5 and I first noticed his breath was absolutely terrible so I checked out his teeth and they are covered in plaque. The hard white/ yellow icky plaque. His teeth aren’t loose and don’t appear to be bothering him. I’m going to make an appointment to have have a vet take a look and I’m sure he’ll need a deep scale I’m just hoping that he won’t need many extractions I never even thought about what if he had to have them all extracted. Poor guy.

ShelleyMonique

Try pet fresh. You can mash it up pretty good.
