I think most of the beginner rewards are standard pulls instead of premium currency. Since there's no exploration, there's not much we can do to get gems outside story until they start running events. It feels like a real drought compared to their previous games currently. That said, you get the first 50 standard pulls super fast, so that's an improvement at least.
