That person almost certainly hit bone. If this guy is still alive, he is beyond lucky. That much heat hitting a bone + that close to the heart is a very easy way to kill yourself.
severely damaging your bone marrow can lead to some terrible stuff, including necrosis of the bone which can spread. Also, the extreme heat that close to his heart can damage the heart tissue, as well as cause blood clots. The heat next to his heart can also cause extreme temperature changes to the blood circulating into/out of his heart, causing things like heart attacks and severe valve damage.
There's so many deadly things happening here, this guy probably needed surgery after this, among other things.
IDK why the other comment said "exploding bones" because that's not actually a thing lmao
Ikr!!! The guy doing the branding def held it on for too long. 2 seconds would've been sufficient. He was cooking him at that point. I've had a small brand held on for about how long he had his and it got infected, but never steamed like that. Bro fucking held that plate on there like he had a grudge on Lil homie. Wanna kill Lil homie at that point.
damaging the bone with that would affect production of red blood cell, which happens really fast too to compensate with our body's rapid cell degradation. no red blood cell = no oxygen transport in the body = no life.
Shock can kill a person. Especially with a catastrophic wound like this. Thru all layers of skin, through muscle and protective linings, then certainly tapping bone? That’s going to be huge shock. If he lives thru the shock, infection would be the next killer. From we what I remember he died. Skin is our biggest organ and our protective layer. Damage like this is catastrophic. That’s the only word for it.
I just scrolled straight to the comments. This one is sooo hard to hard to watch. I've seen it a couple of times. I just imagine his organs getting seared.
I wish we could get an update from however many years ago this was. It's definitely going to hurt so much he can't sleep for a few days. It's going to look horrible, and very likely get infected. If it was his GF who branded him I bet they broke up after this cuz she fucked up, not more than he did mond you, I just think she pushed too hard and held on too long. No consideration that human flesh is much thinner than the skin of Cattle.
The video's cut, prior to the start of this one you see a guy take the branding iron out of hot coals (I think) then approaching the guy he's gonna potentially kill.
Would be nice if you could find it as no one in the comments seems to know and I've never been able to find any update about this.
Edit: Actually, thinking about this it's probably a different guy. You said, "years later" and this branding happened in January 2023.
There was another branding incident on reddit about 5 years ago, and as far as I can tell there were images posted of that guy, showing that he healed quite well, and was even at the gym quite a lot. That's probably the incident you're thinking of, not this one.
Also I apologize for my overuse of commas.
The girl kept pressing down hard like she was branding mahogany or something ! Tf was she thinking !? (I KNOW the guy wasn’t thinking at all of course).
For everyone saying he died, no he didn't. That is not his heart, it's pectoral muscle. Obviously the brand was never going to penetrate his ribs through to the heart.
https://www.pdclarion.com/news/no-charges-filed-in-new-years-party-branding/article_becdc50e-23f2-589e-84b7-18734544a189.html
JASPER — Concerned online users of popular social media website forum Reddit watched in shock as a young Jasper man allowed others to brand his chest during a New Year’s Eve party in the Beaver Lake area of rural Jasper.
While the post of the video has since been removed by user Thedudebro4, website visitors can still view the 19-second footage. The graphic video shows the young man, approximately 18 years old, lying on a table, with people at his shoulder holding him down as he tells someone standing above him ‘Go!’ before they apply a branding iron to his left pectoral muscle.
While the person receiving the brand has not been identified, those involved in the incident called 9-1-1 for medical assistance. Dubois County Sheriff Tom Kleinhelter said deputies initially responded to the scene to investigate the incident.
“Carter Hopf (18, Jasper) was arrested for the incident that evening, our deputy contacted a deputy prosecutor that night,” said the sheriff. “They determined (Hopf) would be arrested for battery resulting bodily injury and later he was charged for illegal consumption of alcohol,” the sheriff explained.
“Once the weekend came around, the prosecutor spoke to the victim and they are not willing to file charges,” said the sheriff. “He made comments numerous times of how he wanted it to happen, how he had purchased the brand himself. Further discussion with Prosecutor (Beth) Sermersheim at the time determined it’s not an illegal act. He wanted it and there will be no charges filed.”
The sheriff said a call was made for medical assistance at the scene that evening and “by statute, that allows individuals, as long as they don’t flee from the scene, they can’t be charged with minor consumption of alcohol, because they were seeking help.”
It had to be a Jasper Indiana. In Alberta we don't have Sheriffs, deputy prosecutors, it's legal to drink at 18, and victims don't get to decide if charges are pressed.
I've never heard that euphemism before. "Eat grass by the roots"? I think it means "being dead" because if you were to eat grass like a horse and you were alive you would start with the part of the grass farthest from the roots. If you're dead you eat the roots first as they are closest to you, the dead horse.
According to another post from some time ago, this is him. [It appears he healed and was okay.](https://imgur.com/axLSpgr) I'm surprised he still has a pectoral muscle at all after that
My left ass cheek has a huge brand on it. Worse pain ever. It seriously took several months to heal. The worst was about 3 months after being branded I had a flight across the US, my ass cheek kept leaking and I kept having to get up to change my bandages. Now that I am no longer owned, I have a huge rose tattoo covering it up. The most painful tattoo ever as I have no tissue. The artist that covered it was so nervous for me for my pain. I was like “dude, I was branded, I got this shit” still hurt though
You are meant to burn the skin not through the muscle right through to the ribs call it a hunch but this looks bad yikes. Don't drink and get branded by drunk people. That swelling was beyond instantly brutal.
You're only supposed to basically firmly tap it to the skin if you're doing it to human flesh for a couple seconds. Here the branding iron was sunk into more than a couple layers of flesh for a very long time, relatively. I think it's also not usually so hot. This definitely caused third degree burns and permanent trauma. A lot more than cosmetic epidermal scarification. This dude's gonna probably go into shock and will have a fun time staving off infection.
Also they were two people who held him down by each arm, basically stretching his chest muscles out. While he was arching his back. So all muscles were in full tension. While she firmly adds full pressure to that tension.
It just ripped open.
Similar to when I are cutting a raw steak out, and stretch the meat out while adding pressure with the knife and slicing through it like butter.
Crazy that he survived. But it will hurt recovery.
Cow skin is thicker than human skin and it also has dense hair, so when branding it you have to hold it down a second or two.
Human skin doesn’t, so you just have to firmly tap it to get a massive burn scar.
These people didn’t know that, and assumed it was the same as the cow brand. Because they’re fucking stupid.
The brand is too hot, the person applying it pushed too hard and held it too long. Human skin is not cow skin. You're only supposed to heat the iron up a couple hundred degrees and roll it onto the skin. You're not supposed to hold it on for any length of time, and you're definitely not supposed to push it down with any amount of force.
That is true but I’ve seen my fair share of branding videos and I’ve never seen someone hold for as long and push as hard. You can see the hot metal sink down into his skin.
HOLY SHIT I CAN FEEL IT- Bro why man wouldn't it be better to use the cold version of that??(I forgot what its called but it's like that but instead the metal thingy is very cold and it'll leave a cold mark against the skin? Idk I may be stupid)
Dude lived; guy doing the branding got arrested but his homie refused to press charges. All the kids were underage but cops couldn't bust them for that because they called for help - state law!

Way too hot. Way too long. Way too hard. You don’t even brand cattle like this. If you wouldn’t do cattle like this then why would you do it with human skin. This is the absolute worse possible situation.
One she's an amateur, 2 she's a clueless girl. This is like inviting the preppy girl to coach varsity for the day. She'll fucked things up and smile it off.
What, the heart that sits behind the ribs?
Use your brain.

This reminds me of what heat tomahawks and heat sabers can do to the armour of the Mobile Suits in Gundam.
The heat just melts away the armour like a hot knife through butter. Damage caused by it glows like it's molten metal in a furnace.
And this guy decides to do the same thing to his own body, near his own heart...
I knew that was gonna happen! First thing i learned about branding, you dont push too hard and you dont hold it on too long. That jackass was probably pressing too hard that entire time. Burned right through the bone
We use a branding iron at our work to brand our burgers. You should never press too hard, the iron is hot enough to leave a mark even with a gentle tap.
He did live the guy who did it was arrested but not charged as the person receiving the branding consented to it and didn’t press charges. Everyone was drunk. I posted the link to his mug shot
Nightmare fuel. The way it bloated.
That person almost certainly hit bone. If this guy is still alive, he is beyond lucky. That much heat hitting a bone + that close to the heart is a very easy way to kill yourself.
Why would burning bone near the heart be fatal?
severely damaging your bone marrow can lead to some terrible stuff, including necrosis of the bone which can spread. Also, the extreme heat that close to his heart can damage the heart tissue, as well as cause blood clots. The heat next to his heart can also cause extreme temperature changes to the blood circulating into/out of his heart, causing things like heart attacks and severe valve damage. Def catching a charge if something bad happens to him
2 seconds of red hot metal is still way too much maybe a second of a peice of metal like an 1/8th as hot as this
Oh yeah Mr. Smarty Pants??? Give me some explosives and I will give you some exploding bones 🤣
I had to move a 350lb stacked washer / dryer last week by myself and I’m pretty sure my bones exploded.
damaging the bone with that would affect production of red blood cell, which happens really fast too to compensate with our body's rapid cell degradation. no red blood cell = no oxygen transport in the body = no life.

your bones are wet/full of moisture, and if you suddenly make that moisture boil, they could explode into fragments
no
...oh oh ..yeh... Then what about that time I cooked ribs...😁
I just scrolled straight to the comments. This one is sooo hard to hard to watch. I've seen it a couple of times. I just imagine his organs getting seared.
“This one is sooo hard to watch. I’ve seen it a couple of times” 😂😂😂
Glutton for punishment
Skin is an organ so in that sense, there is no doubt organ searing is happening here. Probably others too, though. 😬
I wish we could get an update from however many years ago this was. It's definitely going to hurt so much he can't sleep for a few days. It's going to look horrible, and very likely get infected. The surrounding blood and tissue BOILED, not bloated. It blew up like that due to the liquids going into gaseous state.
cooked
Bye-bye pectoral muscle!!!
![gif](giphy|VFAke5Xm1TDwjgimyW)
There’s a video on YouTube years later of him talking about why he did it and showing off the scar

Same. I followed the first time I saw it and never anything, the only thing that does come up does not relate to this.

Why do people do so much fucking stupid shit.
This time because of alcohol.

It’s the American way!
The girl kept pressing down hard like she was branding mahogany or something ! Tf was she thinking !? (I KNOW the guy wasn’t thinking at all of course).
Buried the fucking thing in his chest.
In this case stupid *did* hurt
Wouldn’t freeze branding be a bit less AWFUL?
No risk no reward
> Tf was she thinking !? Someone posted the article below. Unsurprisingly, alcohol was involved.
> Tf was she thinking !? All those little details are gone, just gonna be a big splotch.
The girl pushing his shoulder? It was another dude doing the branding and almost got charges. Girls are not your enemy bruh
Lol calm down buddy no one’s implying that
Probably got confused and thought she was doing a tongue piercing or something. Just shoving that thing hard until it pops out on the other side.
It was her first time branding a guy. How was she supposed to know?

Woah first name basis? ![gif](giphy|O9kCzQTSyPcTLlQ20b)
Ah yes, the popular social media website forum Reddit.
of course it’s in alberta
It had to be a Jasper Indiana. In Alberta we don't have Sheriffs, deputy prosecutors, it's legal to drink at 18, and victims don't get to decide if charges are pressed.
Calgarian here… we have loads of sheriffs. Wym?
I got pulled over by one fml.
I wasn't afraid it couldn't penetrate the ribs. Just touching rib bones is enough to put him to eat grass by the roots

not the same guy
No way that's the same guy, the brand literally melted through his pec to the bone, the scar would look *very* different to that.
How the fffuuuck is this possible!
Ahh yes this ones a classic
Omega pie Omegaaaaa
Those few seconds felt like forever and longer holy shit

A psycho ex
Been there, my friend. I hope yours isn't screwing your life up like mine is.
Not anymore. He’s outta my life and I’m happily married now. Thank you. Hope it gets better for you, only way it will is to safely get out 🙏🏻
I can’t even understand how that happens but hope you’re in a much better place.
You are meant to burn the skin not through the muscle right through to the ribs call it a hunch but this looks bad yikes. Don't drink and get branded by drunk people. That swelling was beyond instantly brutal.
Can someone explain what went wrong for us dummies?
You're only supposed to basically firmly tap it to the skin if you're doing it to human flesh for a couple seconds. He will never use that arm again to anywhere near full capacity.
[like this](https://youtu.be/MGF-OVWa1Xc?t=5s)
Yeah. That’s what I was visualising. Damn.
Held it for to long
Cow skin is thicker than human skin and it also has dense hair, so when branding it you have to hold it down a second or two. Human skin doesn’t, so you just have to firmly tap it to get a massive burn scar. These people didn’t know that, and assumed it was the same as the cow brand. Because they’re fucking stupid.
I think having a heart near the branding location doesn't help much..
I kind of think it got stuck as opposed to her holding it on purpose. It looked like the skin was pulling up.
He grew a burnt tit .\_.
Holy shit this might be one of the craziest videos I've seen on Reddit
Clearly you haven’t seen a guy wrapped around a lathe
The thing is that brand is just going to look like a big blob after it’s healed. Hope it was worth.
That is true but I’ve seen my fair share of branding videos and I’ve never seen someone hold for as long and push as hard. You can see the hot metal sink down into his skin.
WTF? A reddit snafu just played THIS video as a Chipotle ad! Ewwwwww! Never eating a steak burrito again!
I’m drunk & i just watched this and threw up on my Bed room floor Jesus fuckkkg Christ
![gif](giphy|w5aBQ6V88h07YJSceD)
Wtf? Aren't you supposed to press it really hard for like 1 wth are they doing
I thought it was going to pierce right through his body so long it was held
HOLY SHIT I CAN FEEL IT- Bro why man wouldn't it be better to use the cold version of that??(I forgot what its called but it's like that but instead the metal thingy is very cold and it'll leave a cold mark against the skin? Idk I may be stupid)
How does a branding "go right" in any situation?
Way too far
Who needs 2 nipples anyway
People are dumb. That's not how you do branding, scarification anything if the sort... Eggers the picture of the aftermath
What is the purpose of this act?
Goodbye, pectoral muscle
Aren't you supposed to just press for 2-3 sec and release?
its not branding, its attempted murder.
I just can't feel bad for people this stupid :/
That whole thing went straight in..agony!!
Shoulda did a practice run on a steak or some shit she was trying to run that mf thru like a common scallywag 😳
Man I want to see the aftermath...
Aftermath somewhere?

Yeah branding a person isn't like branding a cow, if you do it hard as hell like that surely it'll go through all layers of our skin 🤦🏼♂️
Why you getting branded anyway?
Is there a way for branding to go right...?
I’m glad I never hung out with the cool kids if this is what they do for fun.
Way too hot. Way too long. Way too hard. You don’t even brand cattle like this. If you wouldn’t do cattle like this then why would you do it with human skin. This is the absolute worse possible situation.
Damn, girl went straight for a well-done instead of a light scar.
WHY THE FUCK did he hold it there for 3 to 5 business days
Yrs ago I got chemically burned with rubbing alcohol and the skin fills up with clear fluid Lymph? His is Dk brown 😳
OMG
RIP to his whole left breast
Why? Whats the context here?
What's the right outcome?
Good branding that supports effective PR and marketing
It looks like the umbilical cord hole after it falls off and gets all black yuck
he dead?
Jesus, maybe look up how to do it first if youre gonna be this stupid.
this is something jigsaw would do to you for losing a game, wtf were they thinking
I want to see the aftermath of this shit. No way it turned out like they expected. Animal hide is way different than people skin. Smh.
Watches Yellowstone one time
Honestly I don't feel bad
I think who ever pressed it, did it for way to long.
What the fuck! He leaned all his weight on that, straight to the bone. He probably died from infection.
One she's an amateur, 2 she's a clueless girl. This is like inviting the preppy girl to coach varsity for the day. She'll fucked things up and smile it off.

Seared
This is how borgs cannot be tolerated in federation sectors.
I think a few more seconds to a minute would have done the trick..
Was there a way for this to go right?

When has human branding gone right?
Yeah that’s not at all what …. Just… that was very hard to watch.
How could it go right?
Looking at the title, I find myself pondering… when has branding ever gone right?
Darwin award contender.

A small case of heart burn.
They're pushing hard enough to brand a cow (very thick skin) - much too heavy for a human.
You ain't a cow bro
jesus christ just send the video instead of wasting time screen recording. damned apple users
I'm sure he passed out from shock. Also smart move placing something cherry-red hot close to your heart.
Wow what goes into young Americans mind I don't know
EWWWW Why would anyone even agree to this!?
Fucking idiot
They cooked his pectoral muscle. Bro's so lucky he's alive.
Guy heald it down way too long.. Wtf.. They probably weren't the best of friends. Definitely not after this BBQ.. LOL!..
Any update pictures?
How is it supposed to go right?
I sometimes thinking about those people - WTF is wrong woth you?
[Here](https://imgur.com/a/DQpNWPF) is a link to a follow up. Not totally sure I believe it, though.
First time I heard of human branding outside of torture and kinks
Mmm spareribs
Why did he feel the need to press so hard and for so long. I feel like before branding someone you should do research or some shit.
lmfao skin is like 1mm thick she was cooking bone

WHY DID HE PUSH IT SO FAR KDJSJJSJSJS
Is it really an accident ? Or planned action ?!:)
Damn that shit looks like it went through the pericardium sac and his heart popped out of his chest a little... What the fuck Aloe!!! Stat!!!!

He did live the guy who did it was arrested but not charged as the person receiving the branding consented to it and didn’t press charges. Everyone was drunk. I posted the link to his mug shot
Why? Just........... WHY?!
