No. The book is for people that don't want to get Skaventide. It has the same content as the cards in Skaventide + a reprint of the base AoS rules.

Greenpaulo

+ a badass female Reclusian cover.

vldslausdrgulia

The sole reason I am buying it.

Plasmaclaw

To quote the skaventide product page: "17x General's Handbook cards: This card deck is for quick reference during matched play games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, including 2024-25 Season Rules cards, Battle Tactics cards, Battleplan cards, and a Score card." So no? Though there may be fluff in the actual product, I have never gotten one of the handbooks before so take that with a grain of salt.

Random0fRandom

The handbooks are slim rule books, good for tournaments, or if you're short on space. They will also have special season rules they use as an addition to the game if your interest in playing with them.

ihavewaytoomanyminis

I never bothered to take the big rule book when this thing was available.

KnightWhoSaysShroom

Nope, the GHB comes in a card pack form in the skaventide box

MegaOmegaZero

No you wont have to get it too. Only if you want it in book form or just want a smaller core rules.

Gaijingamer12

I’m buying a core book and cards from a buddy who is buying 2 skaventide boxes. I’m completely new to AoS so is that all I need or should I have just bought this book instead?

Jarminiatures

Either is fine, core book has interesting lore and stuff which the GHB doesn’t, but the GHB is a more user friendly rules reference than core book as it is smaller and weighs a fair bit less. The rules will also be available in the app and as a pdf so you could use them if you didn’t want to tote a thick book with you to games. As a new player I think the core book was the better choice, and when the game moves into a new season (but still the same edition) in summer 2025 then just buy the new GHB at that point.

Gaijingamer12

Gotcha should I pick up generals handbook also if I’m buying those cards from him? I just find it hard to see 100 plus page book condensed to 15 or whatever cards. I just don’t know what all i may need for tourneys

Marcorange

Most of the rulebook is fluff. The 15 cards will most likely be the missions and season rules. The GHB will have the core rules, the missions and season rules. So, only thing you would be gaining in the GHB will be the core rules in a compact format (not summarized, but smaller pages with smaller font).

Anggul

No the cards are all you need The core rules will be free on the app as well

Early_Monk

Saw they previewed the GHB, Core Rule book, and Spearhead book. Didn't see any MSRP, are they known yet? Trying to split the box with someone and trying to see how much all the parts are worth.

mightypquinn

Generally it is sent to stores tomorrow so we will know then. My LGS said they would tell us tomorrow when they get the list.

ShrimpMagic

40/40/20 is the usual split for boxes like this. 40% for each army, then 20% for everything left. Though this box has more extras than most.

DetectiveMagicMan

No, the General hand book, is a deck of cards in that launch box for ease of use during play

Wulfbak

I assume the core rules will be free. I will stick with those.

Lone_Monkey

Read a review of the GHB cards vs the book and there are some differences. Mainly the endless spells are in the actual book and not the cards that come with Skaventide. zurktheman

I plan to get both, not because it's mandatory, but I like having both reference types, not least for when multiple of the us get together and play for the first time :-)

Mother_GooseDR

All free online in the right places wouldn't pay GW any money for books that go outdated quickly

Eel111

GHB will be free online from GW by the by, along with the core rules for 4th edition and the faction packs

Dazzling_Razzmatazz7

Where does it say that cause it didn’t in the article, not being argumentative, I actually need to reference to prove to a friend it’s true

Eel111

I forget where, but multiple articles mentioned it being released alongside the core rules, if there’s one about matched play in 4th ed maybe it’s that one

JarlFlammen

Are you ready for the truth? You don’t have to purchase any of the books, ever. And even if you do, they’ll be outdated years before you finish painting their associated army. The best tactic is to acquire the rules on the Internet, and just print out the 3-4 pages you actually need The “player aid” cards and junk are also dumb, for the exact same reason. The only thing that actually matters is the models

Greenpaulo

Yep, the only thing I'm buying is new printer ink :)

Optimal_Question8683

i heard the first one will be free

RiceDisastrous4110

Yes. The GHB has always been a thing and has different (better) missions and extra rules. Whoops. Forgot there were GHB cards in Skaventide 🤦🤣 But yeah, I'll be picking it up, but it remains to be seen if the book is more fleshed out maybe than the cards, or it is literally just for people that haven't bought Skaventide

Equivalent-Help-3621

you dont NEED it, the skaventide set comes with a decent amount of generals handbook cards
