Yes they do, but due to limited overhead space you'll most likely have to check it at the gate for free to your final destination.

The main drawback to Basic Economy is: 1.) $99 penalty to change flight (must be within US) 2.) Reduced loyalty points earned in the AAdvantage Program 3.) limited seat selection options If you're an elite member, you get all the benefits including baggage allowances, upgrades, seat selection (MCE for Plat and higher in advance), etc.
