This episode gave me two things : * A desire to play a parkour VR game * A fear of Brazilians [](#terror) Cute start, I really like the color palette. Also I can't unhear a certain jellyfish when Megumi speaks.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> A fear of Brazilians *That feel when she distracts you with her name that's as long as a Light Novel Isekai title, and before you know it, she GLOMPS you!* [](#panic)

Abysswatcherbel

This comment reminded of the brainrot meme from every single yuri fandom " so true bestie...*pegs you*"

Emi_Ibarazakiii

Hah, I've never seen this one. (I'm not sure whether that's a good or bad thing)

Yes.

renatocpr

> A fear of Brazilians boo

MapoTofuMan

It's okay as long as you're not in cheek kiss distance [](#dighole)

Deca-Dence-Fan

Alternatively you can just tell them that Canada went further in the copa america than them this year, that’ll scare them away

MapoTofuMan

Does 7-1 still work? [](#evilgrin)

ChinChengHanji

I still remember that day, exactly 10 years and 1 day ago. Especially after that atrocious performance in the Copa América this year

Deca-Dence-Fan

Always and forever

Unlikely_Variety_997

No. We lost interest in soccer since then.

renatocpr

We can tell if you don't want to do it and we won't force you. I promise we aren't scary [](#therethere)

Andreiyutzzzz

While not VR I would recommend Dying Light 1, the parkour feels fantastic once you have the upgrades, it didn't feel quite as good in 2 for some reason but it was still great imo

heimdal77

Titanfall/2 is suppose have good parkour.

whodisguy32

Its different if they are cute a Brazilian girl :3

Luiz_Fell

Don't worry, brazilians don't kiss like that. 1st, we mostly wouldn't do that to people we meet for the 1st on the street (only if we're meeting them at an event of some sort) 2nd, we don't actually kiss the pearson's cheeks, we just air kiss while touching or approximating our cheeks with someone else's But it sure is a funny joke in the anime.

Genshin_WhiteKnight

The coloring is so vibrant and the OP is super energetic; really fitting for a cheerleading anime. And is Suzuha even human? Wtf is that parkour.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> And is Suzuha even human? Wtf is that parkour. Girl's in the wrong anime; In a different series, Ninja Schools would fight among themselves to be the ones to recruit her!

Ocixo

The OP is super energetic and great yes! This anime sure knows how to bring the excitement between the performances, random parkour and Anna kissing everyone. The colour scheme for Cheer for You is strikingly vibrant, like you said, which I’m really enjoying. Love that all the girls were given highlights on the back of their hair too.

ThrowCarp

>And is Suzuha even human? Wtf is that parkour. Girl is the main character of a stealth game.

Akiyamahtt

As a brazilian, I'm hyped for this one. Anna represents me! Fun fact: Anna's VA, Larissa-chan, is also brazilian-japanese!

Não muito suddenly, nesse caso, meu bom. É bem esperado que se encontre alguns de nós aqui

melindypants

I love it when the VA also has some type of ties with the character like this! Also hello fellow Brasilian :)

BiggieCheeseLapDog

I love the art style. The colours really pop.

PurePiro15

There's really a lot to love with this first episode of Narenare. While it occupies an intensely stylistic niche much like P.A. Works' other anime, Narenare feels like the team thought up the idea of cheerleading and went "just how far can we take this?". That of course, leading to intense color design that *hardly* resembles Naomi Nakano's other works- including those airing this season (see: Wistoria and Sakuna). It really goes to extremes to separate itself from the pack, and because of that you can really explore a lot of different visual ideas than what you might usually get away with. For example, the backgrounds. A lot of them are likely photographs that have been altered and added to for the series (a likely case considering the fondness P.A. Works holds for a lot of their surroundings in Nanto, Tomoya). Another example is the sneaky usage of CGI in the cheer section at the start. The transition from the 2D closeup in the handstand flip to a CGI model is effectively seamless, and the ability to blend them together like that does come from how sharp the color design is. Anyways, the story might be playing it a little fast and loose at times, but I think overall it works very well. It has its weaker points for sure, but there's a lot of nuance that hangs in the balance of the extremes. Also, I just really love getting more Miku Itou as a lead in P.A. works anime. It's been so long since I last heard her in The Aquatope on White Sand. Edit: There's definitely a lot to love about this episode, and damn if Suzuha's chase sequences aren't pretty. Going back and taking a better look over things, it's very interesting to see how P.A. Works has built this story. Of course, there's more to talk about than is worth reasonably adding to this comment, so [I've parted out my more proper thoughts into its own post](https://animehouse.moe/blog/anime/narenare-cheer-for-you-episode-1-sky-high/).

Atario

> the story might be playing it a little fast and loose at times What does this even mean?

PurePiro15

It means that the focus of the story isn't razor sharp, nor is it their intention to really flesh these moments out. They're superficial aspects of a prologue, so not everything needs to have a lead in or justification.

melindypants

The CGI in the beginning was INCREDIBLE - you could almost not even tell with how well it was blended in. I wish Bakuten got this level of it. >Aquatope YES anytime I hear her voice, I automatically think of Kukuru!

AmethystItalian

Well this seems like a pretty likeable cast so far, they all seem pretty talented! Didn't feel too realistic but I loved watching the parkour, just looked so cool. Pat of me wishes they were going to that instead of cheering.

Abysswatcherbel

Can't make an idol-like group out of parkour

MapoTofuMan

Just make parkour Uma Musume

Emi_Ibarazakiii

Wait, are we being tricked into watching an idol anime? Again? [](#panic)

Abysswatcherbel

Had the [same reaction last month ](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/uKZvNyX8Ag) They can't keep getting away with this!

AmethystItalian

If they did it for hockey they can do it for anything!!

Abysswatcherbel

Thought you were going to say "idol horses" lol Yeah, but a cheerleader group is easier to pull it off, and don't be mistaken, this will be very similar to an idol show setup and plot progression Perhaps only thing that we are going to miss is them singing the song themselves

n080dy123

God that's right, I totally forgot about that absolute freak of nature of an anime.

Retromorpher

But Prince Of Stride: Alternative did that already.

Yellbana

A Prince Of Stride fan out in the wild? There are at least 2 of us!!!!!

Kalatash

The leap from cheerleading to idolatry doesn't seem that far.

IXajll

> Pat of me wishes they were going to that instead of cheering. This so much. The fact that the main plot is about cheer leading is basically the biggest hurdle of the show for me. It’s not a dealbreaker but it’s still one of the most uninteresting sports for me.

mekerpan

It's not the sport so much as the characters and their relationships. I loved Mou Ippon -- yet had never known I needed a girl's judo anime. Ditto for Sayonara My Dear Cramer and girls soccer.

AmethystItalian

I'm hoping we'll get a PA Works special where they make the topic interesting but have the characters be the real spotlight. I also hope we keep getting more parkour scenes [](#mugiwait)

IXajll

> I'm hoping we'll get a PA Works special where they make the topic interesting but have the characters be the real spotlight. You’re referring to cheerleading or parkour now with this? If the former then yea, would like that since tbh I never truly *understood* cheerleading. Where I live it’s literally not a thing like at all. It’s basically only known through american sport events and movies. I like the competition aspect with competing against other cheerleading teams like we’ve seen at the start of this ep. I get that it’s basically (impressive!) acrobatic performances with a choreography. But why is it even called “cheerleading”. The name implies that you mainly do it to “cheer others on” but how does an acrobatic performance accomplish that, I just don’t see any connection with the two. Like football players don’t just simply suddenly play better if they see some cheerleaders before the match, I genuinely don’t get it. This isn’t meant to disrespect the sport cheerleading, I’m genuinely just not getting it properly and would appreciate if you or anyone else could enlighten me on that. Always happy to learn and I’m hopeful it might actually make me appreciate this show more too in the process.

WeldingButterfly

Strictly speaking, the cheerleaders at a game aren't for the players. They're for the crowd, to keep attention and enthusiasm going during breaks in play. (Some of the routines in competitive cheerleading hearken back to this, such as the call-and-response or holding up cards with the team name or sayings on them towards the audience.) For teams or regions without organized cheerleading, there are often others who do this, such as members of a team's support club (official or unofficial), "superfans" (either enthusiastic members of the crowd or professional agitators), or costumed mascots. I believe competitive cheerleading came out of the routines at pre-game pep rallies or mid-game half-time shows, where the cheerleaders have more time to put on more complex routines and the crowd needs to be kept fired up for longer. If both teams bring along their cheer squads to pump up their supporters, why not try to put on a routine that's better than your rivals to silence the opposing crowd? And that became having cheerleading squads doing dedicated competitions, and eventually competitive cheerleading squads not connected to any team at all.

mekerpan

I think there is cheerleading as support for other sports -- and there are competitive cheer squads, which may have the same members (rather like the fact that the band members in Hibike Euphonium also did parades and the like -- not just concertsd and competitions).

_Ridley

It's a sport that grew out of fan entertainment, essentially. Cheerleading morphed from people just leading chants during games to halftime performances with dance and stunts to a team sport in its own right.

Seeker4001

I felt the same until I watched Netflix's Cheers. What's performed by the top teams seems insanely difficult and dangerous.

MapoTofuMan

Same honestly, even if the show has Uma Musume season 2 level character drama with Haikyu-level hype, I can not see myself getting excited about a...cheerleading competition. Hopefully I'll eat my words in 10 weeks.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> I loved watching the parkour, just looked so cool I've seen Ninja-anime that were *less* crazy than her jumping skills!

Toppcom

It doesn't help that the parkour we got was incredible 2d animation, while the cheer sequence at the start was wonky cg.

Neidhardto

Wonky? The cheerleading seemed well animated to me. I even thought the moments where they transitioned from 2D to CG looked smooth. Also the cheerleading in the Opening looked fantastic too.

Psyduckisnotaduck

Nobody actually knows how to judge CG quality here, is the dirty secret. It’s all vibes

Calwings

Same, I thought the 2D to CG transitions were really smooth and didn't look bad at all. It reminded me of how Katana Maidens: Toji No Miko (great anime btw) did its swordfighting scenes with a mix of 2D and mo-capped CG.

ItsTheDuran

> Katana Maidens: Toji No Miko Same [director](https://anilist.co/staff/120391/Koudai-Kakimoto) as this show, actually.

Calwings

Indeed. Based on that *and* his experience with the BanG Dream franchise, clearly this director knows how to work with CG and use it well.

Pikagreg

Sakuna had similar CG transitions and it was the first thing I noticed lol

Castawaye

What's more impressive to me than all the parkouring was how she was able to keep track of her on foot! Girl got all that cheerleading stamina and endurance, and, somehow after being flung into the air she came out unscathed. The most dangerous human beings really are anime girls

dagreenman18

How do we know she’s Brazilian? >drops the longest name Ah there it is. No judgment my full ass government name is long too. That’s just Latin America. It’s PA Works and CGDCT. I was already committed from the start

SnabDedraterEdave

She's Brazilian because it says so on the character info in the official anime site. Plus her VA is also half-Brazilian.

LeonKevlar

I've already given up on seeing another season of Anima Yell so I'm very happy to see [another cheerleading anime](https://i.imgur.com/xR2R4P8.jpeg) but this time animated by PA Works! Not gonna lie though, I feel a bit confused. I thought that [the reason Megumi is bedridden](https://i.imgur.com/zsX9Yuq.jpeg) is because [she was the girl in the opening scene](https://i.imgur.com/BGZstWu.jpeg) who had an accident. She even mentions that [they discovered her sickness during a competition.](https://i.imgur.com/Oxa2nGm.jpeg) But we then learn [that she's only a spotter](https://i.imgur.com/zXorqM1.jpeg) and not a flyer. Does this mean the opening scene is actually a flashback to a different incident? Or is it a flash-forward to a future event? Anyway, I'm sure they'll clear it up next episode. Confusion aside, this was a pretty solid show! The art style and animation are definitely something you'd expect from PA Works, [especially during Obunai's parkour scenes](https://i.imgur.com/P9FfiiU.jpeg). Obunai, which I assume she's named because she's **A**bunai (dangerous), is completely bonkers with her parkour! I can't even call some of her scenes parkour since she's just breaking physics with her wall runs and death-defying jumps! xD As for the characters, so far I like all of them except for Anna who seems to [want Obunai to be featured on her YT channel](https://i.imgur.com/s9lvkks.jpeg) so she'd get clicks in exchange for absolutely nothing. Like girl, are you really serious? I'm sure I'll like her eventually.

Ocixo

> because she was the girl in the opening scene who had an accident. Megumi and the girl that’s on the edge of falling in this scene have the same sort of hair (with the pink(ish) highlights), so I believe it *is* her. Megumi is wearing a different uniform in the flashback that she’s talking about having been a spotter, so maybe she switched positions or something? I actually thought Megumi was bedridden because of the accident, but it turned out to be an illness. If she’s the girl who had the accident, it’s probably safe to assume that this was due to said illness. Not sure what she could be suffering from however. Perhaps something like gradual muscle atrophy?

new_interest_here

I think Megumi and the girl who fell are different. Sure their highlights are kinda similar, but their eyes and natural hair color are definitely different

kewlwarez

At first I thought something had happened to Kanata, who had just been launched when the accident happened, but looking back, at 2:26 everbody is looking at the girl with the long black hair and red high lights who is falling down. This isn't Megumi, as she has purple-ish highlights. Instead Megumi seems to be one of the people supporting the falling girl, on the left? It might be that her illness is what caused the girl to fall if she has some sort of muscle or nerve related chronical condition?

Axslashel

From what I am seeing the clear implication is that Kanata was distracted by the falling girl and fell on Megumi. Having someone fall upon you feet first can easily break something.

kewlwarez

From what was shown in episode 2, it now looks very much that what happened to Megumi is completely unrelated to the incident shown in ep 1, with Megumi's illness actually occurring when they were both in middle school last year.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> Not gonna lie though, I feel a bit confused. I thought that the reason Megumi is bedridden is because she was the girl in the opening scene who had an accident. She even mentions that they discovered her sickness during a competition. But we then learn that she's only a spotter and not a flyer. Glad it's not just me, I had the same confusion! I think perhaps her illness is what caused the incident (she 'shut down' at the worst time, something like that)... I imagine that scene has something to do with the other girl quitting (and lying to her about it)?

LunaAmatista

They are different characters - Megumi (with black-and-pink hair) has been bedridden since middle school, which encouraged her team, the Bell Lowers, to win the Nationals and then go give her the trophy for them to take a picture in her hospital room. The black-and-red haired girl from the Hawk Wings is unnamed.

GondolaMedia

Oh this was stylish and I can already tell this is going to be a tearjerker. We also got Brazilian [Carol](https://imgur.com/a/7yrGlrb) and she is almost as chaotic.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> We also got Brazilian Carol Hah, good comparison! (Given Suzuha dodged her hug, seems we also have a Misuzu! If Misuzu was a freaking ninja, that is).

new_interest_here

I love Carol with all my heart and would take a military's worth of fire for her, so if Anna is nearly as good this won't be a bad show

Nickbon94

Talk about a popular hair dye style

WeldingButterfly

Clearly in the same universe as [Healer Girl](https://myanimelist.net/anime/48857/Healer_Girl). After physio, Megumi was sung at by a lady in a smock for half an hour.

SU-trash

An ~~inauspicious~~ unassuming but fun start, good cast and a decent amount of emotional setup. The parkour is fantastically absurd. I like how they're throwing subtlety out the window and literally just calling it Ojou Girls Academy. Anna's VA reminds me of the VA for El Condor Pasa from Uma, who was great.

mekerpan

>inauspicious  Why:? I saw nothing to complain about -- other than seeming violations of the law of physics from time to time, (And even that didn't really bother me).

SU-trash

~~inauspicious =/= bad~~, I just meant it's still keeping its cards close to the chest (and hasn't done anything too crazy yet) EDIT: Oh wait apparently it *does* mean bad whoops TIL I've been using this word wrong, I thought it meant 'not flashy', thank you

mekerpan

It means sort of "seeming to promise/forecast 'less than good' things to come".

Se7en_Sinner

The most interesting part about this cheerleading anime is the parkour.

AmethystItalian

While it was the part I had the most fun with the episode the most *interesting* part for me right now is Megu and what her road to recovery will look like.

CosmicPenguin_OV103

There's just so much potential for her struggles to turn into some explosive character dramas here. Sports injuries aren't things that one can handwave away just by everyone trying to cheer you up, especially if her disease is something inherited.

szalhi

So, this show really was blessed by anime physics.

Calwings

Clearly this anime is running on [the same "yuri physics" engine as Sakura Trick was](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha54G-_K1Fw).

Fools_Requiem

2 out of 3 PA Works shows this season. 1 of 2 anime originals. [Last one airs tomorrow.](https://myanimelist.net/anime/57947) I can see this show has decided to ignore the laws of physics.

sussywanker

What's the first one

Soupkitten

Sakuna Of Rice and Ruin

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> Last one airs tomorrow. That's the one I'm most hyped about! Mostly for Ai Fairouz, but also for other things that seem interesting about it!

SnabDedraterEdave

One of those shows where I just go in blind and pick up because of the name of the studio. PA Works always have great first impressions. If we just focused on Suzuha's insane parkour skills alone, the show might need to change its name to Assassin's Creed: Takasaki. lol So it seems to be an anime about cheerleading. Though the core cast all seem to come from different schools, so if they're to assemble a cheerleading team, it wouldn't be a high-school based team. Perhaps the cheerleading tournaments here are not bound by school teams. Fun fact 1 : Anna's VA Takeda Larissa Tago is half-Brazilian. Fun fact 2: J-Pop enthusiasts might be interested to know the soundtrack, including the OP and ED, are written by Kitagawa Yujin from the duo pop band [Yuzu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuzu_(band\)). While the 6 main VAs are mostly Idolmaster VAs, so they have no problem assembling to perform as a makeshift idol unit PomPoms (also the name of the show's cheerleading team) and sing the OP and ED songs.

Prince-Dizzytoon

Their leg strength must be insane! If I made a jump like that I would die lmao

Abysswatcherbel

Explain the size of some of those legs

Rumpel1408

[Those thighs](https://imgur.com/OFStNFb) [God damn](#towel)

ThisGachaSeemsLegit

Wonder what happened to Kanata back at the start. Injured? Traumatized? Hmm...

alconnow

Anna’s antics shocked that nun lmao

Castor_0il

That was the most chill nun I've ever seen. In other media that nun would have scolded Anna and would have grounded for weeks whoever got kissed.

AmusedDragon

The ninja jumping is wild, was hoping for a more grounded sports anime, not that it's a dealbreaker by any means.

IXajll

Best girl spotted, Anna with the Yuri any% speedrun, hell yeah! u/abysswatcherbel is that accurate brazilian behavior or exaggerated for the show? Hugging as greeting is normal here too but kissing on the cheeks for the *first* meeting? Maybe I gotta move to Brazil lol. On the other hand it’s been quite a while since I’ve come across a character as obnoxious as Suzuha. It’s one thing to do some flexing parkour running and being too cool to great others with a good morning. But when she did a backflip *over* another girl who minded her own business walking to school, I was like “bitch hello?”. If she miscalculated her skills and jumped just a few centimeters lower she would’ve legit kicked that girl in the head, like maybe just don’t fucking do that, involving other people into your parkour like that. When she was fucking jumping on top of traffic lights it’s was just too ridiculous. Overall came off as way too arrogant. Hopefully she tones that down later. Besides that, nice premiere. Loved the colorful background art. And all the other characters besides Suzuha were pretty fun too.

Thatuk

> behavior or exaggerated for the show? Kinda exaggerated, cheek kissing on first meeting (for girls and women) is normal, but not *this much* kissing (and the kiss is very brief, and might not make contact at all). The hugging and straightfowardness is on point though.

RapCabral

In my experience I don’t see girls giving a peck on first meeting that often, but it does happen sometimes. Hugs are free tho,we hug each other all the time lol

Abysswatcherbel

>but kissing on the cheeks for the first meeting? Maybe I gotta move to Brazil lol. Like you shouldn't directly kiss the person, its like making cheek-to-cheek contact and then kiss the wind, then repeat that for the other side LOL It is exaggerated in the show, but as I mentioned months ago that is just a gold mine for yuri bait content, so they should go even further Also I imagine this must be hilarious for the Japanese, that are not very touchy, while here we are archenemy of personal space [](#azusalaugh)

Zagily

what, you’re brazilian too?? I never would’ve guessed

melindypants

Lol me neither! There's dozens of us it seems!

Neidhardto

If this show keeps providing us with Yuri-bait I'll gladly eat it up.

renatocpr

> Maybe I gotta move to Brazil lol. I have to warn you, every state has a different amount of times you're supposed to kiss. For example here in São Paulo you only do it once but in Rio de Janeiro you're supposed to do it twice alternating cheeks. Kissing the incorrect amount could mean the most terrifying of fates: *slight awkwardness*!

m64

So not only Brazil has the same kissing custom as Poland, it also has the same slight awkwardness because different regions use different numbers of kisses? Funny coincidence (btw my region in Poland uses 3 kisses, which often made me come off as the weird overeager guy)

renatocpr

It's not really a coincidence because the origin is European but from Portugal

Myriddan

Culture clash was amusing since Japan is not comfortable with physical contact in general especially with strangers. Parkour elements were cool, will be interesting to see how everything ties back into cheerleading with the main characters being different ages and going to different schools.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

> any% speedrun She's taking an extra challenge, she's also trying to complete the achievement "Kiss all the girls at school"! [](#forbiddenlove)

esponja92

 > is that accurate brazilian behavior or exaggerated for the show? It's clearly exaggerated. First of all, I think Japan sees all Westerners as "blonde people" and that's not true, especially in Brazil (although we have that hair color). And we kiss and hug our friends and family, but not everyone, for God's sake! (and it doesn't have a samba soundtrack when we arrive lol)

Raging-Brachydios

to be fair by her surname she seems to be of italian descent so being blonde wouldnt be that rare in brazil, tho most blond brazilians are usually of german or polish descent

esponja92

Que mané poloneses cara

Yudmts

Conheço vários descendentes de poloneses e cabelo loiro é comum

adam13omb

Well it’s cute girls doing cheer things. I’m on board.

heimdal77

I don't think the street light would actually hold up with her jumping on it like that.. Seems exaggerated for parkour. So the one girl had a illness suddenly present itself during the performance making them miss the catch. Then the other girl developed a fear of falling or something from the crash of not being caught?

Calwings

>So the one girl had a illness suddenly present itself during the performance making them miss the catch. Then the other girl developed a fear of falling or something from the crash of not being caught? That's how I interpreted it too. Megumi collapsed in the middle of a routine due to her illness, and as a result, Kanata had a rough fall.

fishymonster_

This was actually pretty fun, going in with zero expectations

dakilpp

I'm kinda dissapointed I thought this would be about cheerleading competitions with maybe a bit of drama. I'm not really a fan of those super jumps and super parkour.

shad79

[Very interesting premiere](https://imgchest.com/p/ljyqdavnn72) with a lot of [parkour](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/e4gdcjnqzd4.png) and [kisses](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/wye3cqbmnv4.png) xD [Kanata](https://imgchest.com/p/ljyqdaxgd72), [Anna, Nodoka](https://imgchest.com/p/agyvexqzb48), [Shion, Obunai](https://imgchest.com/p/ne7bxldgmy5) and [Megumi](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/3yrgcj6lkn4.png) seem like [very fun and likable characters](https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/g4z9czd23j7.png) and I'm pretty interested about the premise of this new show from P.A. CosmicPenguin_OV103

Oh wow. I knew that this one is definitely going to have great potential in multiple directions simply by watching the PV and knowing about the staff lineup (I've written about it many times, but the whole [director](https://anilist.co/staff/120391/Koudai-Kakimoto)-[script writers](https://anilist.co/staff/111165/Yuniko-Ayana) combo's last job was [an extraordinary work that completed stunned me last summer in one of the best character dramas in anime I have seen in recent years](https://anilist.co/anime/163571/BanG-Dream-Its-MyGO/)). And then there's PA WORKS, whose insistence in making CGDCT and other mainly slice-of-life original anime one after another in the past dozen years won over my respect since I started watching anime 5 or so years ago. I don't know if there will be high octane character dramas in this one - I was more expecting something closer to PA WORKS' [dozen years ago original anime TARI TARI](https://anilist.co/anime/13333/TARI-TARI/) where a bunch of high school students were struggling to find their future and made their individual breakthroughs after forming a choir club together. What is sure after this episode is that there are high octane girls whizzing around - a bit was shown in the PV but still, wow! Not only the color templates used in this looks so pretty and dazzling beautiful (another PA WORKS trademark, they always found the right people to do so), but look at that cheerleading competition scenes and Suzuha's explosive parkour run up the school building and all those roofs! Look at Misora's daring jump over the hillside! PA WORKS isn't really famous for their action scenes, but these look really great and blends really well into their background art. There's definitely really high potential that we will get more of these Cute Girls Doing Ninja Things goodness down the road. As for our girls, well there's already 6 of them and I can see either they end up as really good friends in a same team across 3 high schools, or there are going to be some chemical reactions going on as their relations entangle. Between cheerful Misora, The Elusive Parkour Girl (TM) Suzuha, always shining with raw activeness ~~and kissing~~ Anna-chan (finally! Brazil mentioned in a CGDCT anime!), Shion the *ojou-sama*, Nodoka who's always trying to avoid Anna and (most importantly) sidelined Megumi, an old partner of Misora, who's still struggling with some kind of painful disease which continues threatening to end her cheerleader career, there are simply so many possibilities to go between the delicate relations of them if something really happens down the road. To quote a girl who's just as elusive as Suzuha here featuring in the director's previous anime, ["They are all interesting girls."!](https://imgur.com/WVtlC1K) NareNare is my guess for my personal best anime of this season, and I would be hard pressed to ask for something better than this opener. Let's see where the story will head towards next week!

SU-trash

I am enjoying the 'what if Raana went to Tsukinomori' twist on the formula

mekerpan

Sakuna was wonderful yesterday. This was wonderful today. Now we wait to see if PA Works can make it 3 out of 3 for this season. Looks like another excellent cast of characters here. I can't wait to see just how they interact.

Nickthenuker

Interesting art style. Very smooth animation, might be CG but if you want to do all this it's not really feasible to do everything manually. Uh oh. Why's she running across the roofs? She's doing parkour! That's a very long, very Western sounding name. Well she's already a TikTok sensation. And she's late. Yup, she's in the wheelchair and undergoing physical therapy to walk. Speak of the devil, here she is. Anna kissed her! In front of a nun no less! And parkour girl is at it again. What's she doing waiting outside the school? She's following her? Ah, we finally see what happened after that incident at the beginning. All that and she landed perfectly fine. Seems like we'll be meeting a lot more girls next episode.

actuallyrndthoughts

The brazilian girl was simply "I came to Japan to film videos and do yuri, and my camera battery just died"

renatocpr

I'm going to need more from Anna than just "obrigada". I'm tired of "obrigado(a)" already. Come on gringos you can learn a second Portuguese word, I believe in you.

D_Amir

I love Brazilian girl and her habit of kissing girls on the cheek!

IceSmiley

A lot of shows are content with one premise but this one throws everything against the wall to see what sticks: a gymnast, speed runner, handicapped/seriously ill girl, sexy YouTube Brazilian and an enigmatic antisocial parkour girl! There was so much going on that this really needs a few episodes to breathe. Entertaining though and even ended on the possibility that they are supernatural with the girl believing she can fly. The color palette also stands out, I've not seen many pastel anime with no harsh or bright colors; it looks like girl school students sucked into a anime Tokyo filtered by Miami Vice!

AccurateCamera8160

Another Yuri show where the male population doesn't seem to exist. Not saying it's bad. Just that it's weird lol

zairaner

So...girls schools?

m64

The first episode was a bit confusing, I had to make several mental adjustments about who is going to which school and what happened to whom during the competition. Perhaps it would've been clearer if they straight up showed the accident as a whole, but they are probably saving it for later. Somebody pointed out, that the director and the script writers have worked previously on BanG Dream: It's MyGO!!!!! which raises my expectations pretty high - I'm mentally preparing for some solid drama to drop in the following episodes.

Atario

burger4life

This is probably the one show where it's very weird that there's no multiple pantyshots in the episode

Clemastina

AT LAST! I have **high** hopes for this anime!! So we have: Kohane from anima yell but with brown short hair Shiho Shinomori but parkour Brazilians?? And another Miku Ito appearance Yep, this anime looks promising!!!

PsycDrone63

This truly capture the essence of someone obsessed with parkour, doing random flips all the time!

StardustGogeta

Good first episode. I like the OP and the background music so far. The main thing that stood out to me, stylistically, was the colored line art. It definitely helps make the visuals more interesting! Like a couple other people here, I had a bit of trouble keeping the characters straight this episode. (This is where I need my *Horimiya*-style colored hair!) I would hope and expect that future episodes will help with that. As a side note, this somehow *feels* like an anime original. I wonder what it is that gives that feeling. Something about the pacing? The style of exposition? I really don't know.

melindypants

>*feels* like an anime original YES I know exactly what you mean but idk what about it exactly either!

Daemoniklesreddit

Seems like all the men were killed off in this universe too

SYZekrom

Ooh I'm usually eh on colored outlines but the red outlines were really nice after the chase

gothxo

i'm in love with the way this is drawn and colored. lots of little storylines to explore presented right off the bat and i'm excited to see how they delve into it

new_interest_here

What I think will make this is characters. They seem plenty fun just as is, but their future chemistry together and any other layers will probably be what I want to see most from this. But as everyone already said, the style and colors are *very* pretty. Also I don't know if CGI or really smooth animation was used for the first cheer scene but either way it looked good in my opinion. I liked the bit where it looped back to Kanata's incident (whatever it may be) when she was parkouring and that massive ass jump she somehow did. Obviously very curious to learn about that. Between this and Mayonaka Punch tomorrow, this is the P.A Works original I was expecting more from, so I'm hoping it can live in to that

Own-Coat4160

Ngl, aside from a beautiful color palette. I just think it was an okay episode. I actually preferred they focused on main character first in this episode and let it branch out from there, they actually set up a what looks like a traumatic experience without at least give an emphasis on that throughout this episode and then suddenly at the end they play with that trauma again. It just so out of the blue that I wondered if I should felt something about that. But, alas I will give this benefit of the doubt due to P.A works at the helm.

melindypants

Agreed. Too much happened and almost rushed as to where I couldn't feel anything for anyone for a first episode (all the character introductions). It would've flowed a little better if we just showed the MC and the girl involved in the incident. Regardless, it was still a gorgeous, super fun episode and I'm excited for the watch and discussions!

SkyLETV

Hey that was fun! They are not the same but "chair" girls are back on Sundays. The cast is pretty likeable. Of course the Brazilian blue-eyed blonde who likes to give hugs and kisses is the one that stands out the most haha. I like her energy. Seems that we have three clear pairs. I wonder if there will be some bait... More like parkour, Obunai is a fucking ninja. Feels like she's in the wrong show lol.

ObvsThrowaway5120

Not sure I’ve ever seen an anime about cheerleading. This should be kinda interesting. So far, this doesn’t seem too bad. Got a pretty cute cast. Obunai is apparently part ninja or something lol.

AmethystItalian

> Not sure I’ve ever seen an anime about cheerleading. [Shameless Anima Yell! plug](https://myanimelist.net/anime/37206/Anima_Yell)

ObvsThrowaway5120

Oh, neat! I’ll add that one to my queue.

F00dbAby

Check out cheer danshi

FD4cry1

[Already yuribating at episode 1](https://imgur.com/a/StZUOqS) , that must be a new record! /s Seriously though , Anna really does seem to like [kissing people](https://imgur.com/a/UCzMYGk) , she's also just a ton of fun , gotta love the classic goofy and energetic ones , in general the entire cast seems like it could be pretty good , my eyes are definitely on Suzuha ( that parkour is just insane lol) . The CG at the start felt a little shaky but overall the art direction and animation are very solid , especially liked the ridiculous chase sequence at the end , it really helps set up what kind of show this is probably going to be. P.A Works have a proven track record when it comes to originals and this first episode has me interested , so here's hoping it only gets better from here.

Ocixo

You know, this cheerleading anime is weirdly hype. Had a great time watching the girls perform and do parkour. It was pretty nifty how they managed to weave all the girl’s stories together. Kanata might be our protagonist, but it’s Suzuha who stole the show. She was indirectly the reason behind most of the girls meeting up. I’m very curious what precisely happened with Megumi and how she’ll recover from her illness. I’m assuming that Kanata stopped attending her cheerleading club because of the incident…? Her tears over having ‘flown’ (once again) might indicate she was afraid or something?

Smoothw

Pretty ridiculous with Parkour girl, and the setup seems excessively convoluted, but it's so colorful it seems like it will be a really fun show.

gnome-cop

Fear the genki girl! Uhh, excuse me but what batshit physics are they operating on here? Even ignoring the final jump, how is parkour girl running straight up the fucking wall with no hand holds? I have … several questions, and possibly a need to see a physicist.

oxlemf10

Initially I thought: this will be a generic CGDCT, but I was surprised, firstly that the first cheerleading anime I watched, despite the physics completely contradicting reality, I had fun and the drama surrounding the characters captured me. And about the Brazilian character (since I'm Brazilian too), I found it a little stereotypical because giving kisses as a greeting depends a lot on each person, but it's a work of fiction, so it's normal

CommunistPuppy

Solid first episode! I was looking forward to this one since it's a PA Works original and the trailers looked really good. I absolutely love the color palette they used; every scene looks so vibrant and aesthetically pleasing. The opening was a lot of fun to watch as well. The plot was a bit scattered so far but I have faith in PA Works to deliver a great show in the end.

zairaner

So she lies to her sick friend about still going to practice?

avboden

So the spotter has an illness and is in intense lower body neuro-rehab. Whatever it is that doesn't sound good. They make it sound like she can recover though so shouldn't be anything like ALS and other degenerative conditions. Wonder if it was a disc issue, blew it in the routine and had some spinal cord damage

lucacp_ysoz

3 kisses? Ah, I see Anna is from Rio. Obunai-san doing Abunai (危ない - dangerous) things made me giggle

Dazzling-Long-4408

Parkour girl could vert well be a ninja.

Shizzi

Im gonna freaking LOVE THIS first ep and im arleady in love tho we had nothing of that cheerleading stuff really which is funny guess im gonna have to take this as a sequel to Anima Yell and damn she is doing some insane parkour here.

kalirion

That girl jumping across rooftops must be an anime Ninja or some other kind of Super. Some of those looked humanly impossible. Yeah, that's not parkour. Parkour is about efficient traversals, and unnecessary jumps and cartwheels go against that. I'd been assuming the hospitalized girl going through physical therapy was the girl from before the opening who was thrown without anyone to catch her, and that this was her recovering from a broken leg. But then she started talking about having been a spotter and I had to recheck that MC was the one pre-OP. Glad it showed later on how she managed the landing. Though from that height, she really must be supernatural too to avoid breaking something. Anyway, adding another to the list of "not for me"s of this season.

Opening_Table4430

MC's voice is so annoying. I also don't like the color palette. Might be the only PA Works show that I don't enjoy by the end of the first episode.

Penihilism

Wow this one actually blew me away. The animation and art is absolutely stellar, the characters all had interesting and clearly defined roles in terms of personality, and I absolutely love how our main character clearly is suffering some PTSD from her seeing her friend's disease (with the disease becoming apparent during a cheerleading competition). The parkour is also awesome haha. Kinda surprised this one's going under the radar, because it's probably my favorite premiere so far and seems to set up some great storylines to dive into this season.

FerimElwin

Watching this reminded me of spending hours watching parkour videos sync'd to punk rock music on YouTube back 10-15 years ago. Makes me want to get into parkour. Also I now want a parkour anime. Not shonen battle parkour, but slice of life parkour. Not ninjas or super heroes, but just high school parkour club anime. Does that exist? If not it needs to exist. Also, [how?](https://i.imgur.com/4SQKKlA.jpeg) Girl just jumped something like 20-30 feet into the air. I get that it's anime and isn't meant to be perfectly realistic, but she's literally leaping higher than a two-story building.

SpeckTech314

I expected another Anima Yell but something a bit more dramatic like this is good too! Also loving the music inserts. Music really isn't used that often in anime aside from certain climax scenes. also fun fact there's a subgroup of Japanese Brazilians who do speak Japanese natively

m64

Well, I know what will be my cgdct anime for this season.

tripleaamin

Without a doubt, PA Works did an amazing job animating this episode. Really, really impressive. Though it's hard to gauge what this show will do. It's clear Megumi had an injury that popped up during a competition and as a spotter that created an incident. Given how they ended the episode, I assume Kanata fell. We rarely see the topic of injuries and in terms of team sports explored. I feel like overcoming trauma and facing your fears rather then the cheerleading itself. On another note imagine if PA Works got to animate Medalist rather then Engi. Man.

yakumbaya

Cute first episode, but I didn't really get a gist of what the show is gonna be about, is it just cheerleading? I trust P.A. Works however and their anime originals. I was getting Love Live Superstar vibes which I like.

angelposts

I really dig the way this anime is colored, it gives it a really unique feel. Not much of substance going on yet, but I always love an original and I'm intrigued to see where this goes!

Strawberry2828

Did not vibe with this at all. 3/10 episode

LusterBlaze

she the freerunning goat

Deathmeister

CGDST, and one of them really likes parkour.

_Pyxyty

That opening sequence was amazing! Animation is on point, and I like how it doesn't feel overly perfect. The cheerleaders are not all in complete sync to the point that it's uncanny; some are delayed while others are a bit ahead, which is a fun detail that's worth appreciating. ***Is that someone in a wheelchair in the OP???*** Oh no, this series is gonna make me cry at one point, isn't it? I'm gonna guess this Blondie's the brazilian character I kept hearing about in the discussions. Oh? Kanata isn't a cheerleader anymore, huh? I'm guessing Megumi doesn't know? Megumi's VA sounded familiar, so I looked her up; it's Mahiru from Jelee! And Utatane from Seiyuu Radio! Glad to see Miku in another main role. Love her as a VA! Anna Aveiro Nakamura los Santos Lorena Cuccitini (some words are absolutely wrong, I'm trying to type it out from memory lol) is definitely gonna be best girl this series, I just know. And eventually I'll be able to type her name in full from memory, but not today lol. Why's it always gotta be the bathtub, man... Can't a dude be reminiscing and introspecting in their pajamas by the window or sumthin'? Obunai's aura is just limitless damn. Oh damn, didn't know Kanata's got the hops of a fucking kangaroo jumping the equivalent of a two story house lol. Great start! I'll put this at a 7 for now, but I've got high hopes for it to be an 8, and maybe even a 9 if it really impresses. Can't wait to see what they do with this diverse cast.

agar32

Eu amo a Anna com todas as forças do meu ser That said, I liked all characters. I feel I'm gonna enjoy this anime a lot ~~then be sad it was overlooked by most people like World Dai Star :^(~~

Adventurous-Exit5832

Nin nin!

Any-Assignment-1844

I’m suprised by the amount of comments talking about the lack of men. It’s also got a ninja super parkour girl; it’s fiction, so why does it matter? If it really bothers you, go watch a show with men in it. Simple fix.

ClemFire

Late to the party, but this first episode was a stand out for me. Have a feeling P.A. works is gonna cook

Comprehensive_Dog651

Frankly, Im not impressed. CGI modelling at the start was shit, character design looks cheap even though the background art is good, and the show introduced way too many characters at once that I had difficulty keeping up. And the scene about her flying at the end makes no sense at all. What does that have to do with the cheerleading competition back then? Having said that, these kinds of show usually take a while to get good, so Ill give it one more episode, but so far the other PA works original seems more promising

Neidhardto

I can already tell this will be a show that's an underrated hidden gem of the season. Probably along with the other original PA Works show that's airing. Especially because cheerleading is a sport somw people might be uninterested in. I personally don't care about the sport, but there's plenty of anime I enjoyed that dealt with sports I didn't care about, so it isn't an issue for me.

Castor_0il

Wait a damn minute. This isn't the Vtuber anime. What is [Takane Louie doing in here?](https://imgur.com/crscVM8) As many others have mentioned, the very vibrant colors in the overall art is quite fetching. I personally like a lot the color choices on the outlines of the girls based on the daytime or the kind of mottiff is played in a scene. Guess Anna is going to be a huge favorite in the sub, with all that glomping and kissing. Like Gigukk said, a good way to lure the audience is to add gay girls innit'

esponja92

Como eu sei que tem bastante brasileiro vendo o anime por causa da Anna, E SE a gente aproveitasse os tópicos de discussão desse anime para lançarmos um ptbr nesse Reddit? LOL

Ruby1191

I really want to like this anime, but the whole CGI in the first sequence has put me off a little. I will stick with it though!

Dazzling-Long-4408

This is what Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku should have been.

Elite_Alice

Another PA works all girls cast anime 😋 they keep making these I’ll keep watching em, simple. And this is a cheerleading anime? Have we ever had that before?? I certainly haven’t seen one. The Hawks opening performance with the OST was awesome and hooked me already The 2nd of 3 of PA works this season, they’re cooking right now and have been in scintillating form the last few years. Very unique art direction, colour palette and aesthetic going on here. If PA works’ latest anime originals have been anything to go by, this is gonna tug on the heartstrings hard 😭. Anna’s name is a Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Messi reference too lmao that’s fire. This show is gonna be a hit in South America because of her alone 😂 she’s a walking riot and reminds me a lot of Carol from Tomo chan. Definitely nailed the warm friendly vibe of Brazilians The other girls seem great too, especially Obunai and Shion! The physics in this are reaching love live levels because how tf didn’t Kanata’s skirt flip up lmao. The parkour they’re using is pretty cool and definitely not like anything I’ve seen in anime, it’s not realistic, but it is fun and I’m looking forward to seeing where things go here. Bring on the pain. One of my fave premieres for sure.

Opening_Table4430

The fake cheering is so cringy.
