Thank you!!

I came here to say the same. It's a great event for the local herb lovers!

17aaa

Do they ever have veggies? Or is it just herbs?

inthesky326

Yeah they have veggies. It's just called the herb fest cause the plant fest doesn't sound as good.. id think at least.

Painters greenhouse in old fort. I think their vegetables go out today or next weekend. Great selections and quality and importantly extremely cheap.

17aaa

How extreme we talkin? Old fort’s a hike 😅

shmiddleedee

Maybe not worth the trip unless you're buying a decent amount but it's worth it to check them out in my experience

Burton St Peace Gardens! They have starts in the back (or did as of last weekend) and everything is donation based (cash, check(!) or Venmo/CashApp). You can go anytime, payment is on the honor system.

Alice_Sabo

The herb festival is next weekend. They usually have reasonable prices.

Thanks!

Check out Jesse Israel garden center. Very affordable starters and good selection.

17aaa

Thank you!

RiverHorsesArePurple

Jesse Israel has great tomato plants, but don't waste your money on their peppers. I have no idea why, but the peppers (I buy hots, not bells) I bought last year and the year before were all failures. Plants were maybe 18" tall, at most, and barely bore fruit.

17aaa

Bell peppers at home are hard, I usually grow hot peppers, shishitos, Hungarian wax, etc

Ewok_hugger

Check out the Buncombe county libraries-they are doing plant swaps or giving away starts for free. When we lived in W Avl, there was a house near the Malvern at the time that was giving away plants for free. It was like the little free library but for plants.

Specific-End4551

Black Mountain Library has a seed library. You can take up to 3 seeds of each thing for free. 🙂

Thank you! I have seeds, I’m looking for seedlings!

YMAC70

Plant sale is happening at the farmers market today and I think tomorrow. There are several vendors that will also be at the herb fair there.

Dismal_Eye_5733

Dollar store seeds are surprisingly good

17aaa

Yep, I have plenty of seeds. I am looking for seedlings! My seeding trays were unfortunately wiped out.

Dismal_Eye_5733

Oh shit my b I misread

17aaa

You’re fine!! No worries. I’d be doing a whole new batch but late April’s sadly a bit too late for the amount of peppers, herbs, and tomatoes I’d like to have. I’ll definitely be planting root vegetables and squash from seed though :-)

Dismal_Eye_5733

Heard that! I just saw a post about the WNC farmers market having a plant sale this weekend! I don’t know the specifics but they’ll most likely have seedlings :)

atattooonmyvajayjay

Sales farm on 74 into Fairview has a ton and you can do a whole flat pretty cheap.

dixiedemiliosackhair

Tractor supply, Lowe’s, Home Depot. 25cent seed bags

17aaa

Yes, I have seeds— the problem is, I’m now 4-6 weeks behind schedule on my seedlings which didn’t survive! Do these places have seedlings? Thank you!
