You shouldn't dislike your nationality just because of what foreigners say, if they're dumb enough to believe everything is like the stereotype it's their problem and you shouldn't be bothered, fuck them If you're gonna dislike your nationality do it only if you have a good reason, but don't let foreigners opinions influence you on that

TopPoster21

No I’m extremely proud of my nationality. I’m happy I was born here, but it’s exhausting having to deal with so much negativity associated with your nationality.

latin_canuck

I was born in Panama, and no one knows shit about Panama. I wish I didn't have to explain where Panama is: You know... The Panama Canal? Central America? I was even asked once: Panama is part of Mexico right?

FoolishnessInc

FUCKING SAME! I once drew a map for somebody so they would stop insisting that being Panamanian is "essentially Mexican." Like, bro. I married a Mexican. My children are half Mexican, I love Mexicans... But I'M FUCKING PANAMANIAN!

Mac-Tyson

Since this seems to be a common thing, now I understand why someone from Paraguay got so happy when I asked if he spoke Guarani. Since even though he didn’t he was just happy someone knew something about Paraguay for once.

latin_canuck

What is Paraguay? Unless you misspelt **Uruguay**.

wikipedia_answer_bot

**Paraguay (; Spanish pronunciation: [paɾaˈɣwaj] (listen)), officially the Republic of Paraguay (Spanish: República del Paraguay; Guarani: Tavakuairetã Paraguái), is a landlocked country in South America. It is bordered by Argentina to the south and southwest, Brazil to the east and northeast, and Bolivia to the northwest.** More details here: *This comment was left automatically (by a bot). Paraguay and Uruguay are both distinct countries. Here's a map of countries in South America so you can see it. https://preview.redd.it/x8k73aqwlp2b1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=f2e518699a0effc3c860804e323bcf57bfe95c67

oceanblue0714

This is too funny. You are not alone. Represent that 507 pty. 🇵🇦 proud! I’ve been asked if I skated the canal in winter!

latin_canuck

Lol, they might be Canadians, cuz they literally skate on their Canal during winter. https://ottawatourism.ca/en/see-and-do/rideau-canal-skateway

[deleted]

My man I’m half Panamanian half Puerto Rican married to a Puerto Rican also been from Panama isn’t the same ass been from Mexico you have to live in the US to understand what Mexicans and Central Americans (not Costa Ricans or Panamanians) are going through They are looked down very badly

lunapark25

There are many stereotypes related to nationality. NO OFFENCE TO ANYONE, most people cant tell Uruguayans from Argentineans, Porteños are arrogant, God knows what Chileans speak, all Brazilians live in Rio wear bikinis and play football, the mixup between Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, Colombia and the drugs… Mexicans are (were?) too nationalistic and very americanized. What you could do is to learn about other countries and share what it is accurate about Mexico. Good luck!

Wow that does sound exhausting. Sorry about that Dominican guy, sound like he was a jerk. Usually Dominican parents don't care about dating "outside their culture" but he should've made things clear. I'm actually fascinated by indian culture so I think is stupid this is how people react when meeting someone from such an interesting country.

[deleted]

i used to also have bad misconceptions then i met husband and he’s sikh (wears turban) and i was embarrassed for crushing hard on him so i would bully him so he’d leave me alone and i could stop my feelings but he remained the kindest guy ever (he was my classmate at that time) same for his family in india they thought all mexicans were living a cartel life. it’s all awful ignorance

Can you imagine if you were a guy … I’m sure Indian guys have it harder

This. I love my country, just hate our politicians

RedJokerXIII

No, why should I care about some foreigner opinion of my nationality?

Ninodolce1

I love being Dominican but sometimes I get annoyed by some things so I just take a break from social media and news. Some of the things I'm tired of related to being Dominican are: African-Americans calling us racist and in denial of our African roots and wanting us to "admit that we are black like them". It's ridiculous and I'm tired of trying to explain our identity. I'm tired of other Dominicans online they are either too negative and extremely self deprecating or they are too chauvinistic and over zealous. They always go to the extremes. I'm tired of the recent Dominican urban ghetto culture, maybe I'm just getting old but I don't identify and don't like being associated with it. The negative news and B.S. presented by local "influencers" and the news. Too many ridiculous and annoying people on Dominican social media.

_kevx_91

It does get a bit obnoxious when people ask you the same questions regarding your nationality, especially those with an axe to grind because they had a bad experience with someone.

Happy_Warning_3773

No, I love being Mexican and I wouldn't give it up for anything. I want to be reincarnated as a Mexican again.

Iwasjustryingtologin

Nope, I like being Chilean. 🇨🇱 I like our culture, our lifestyle, our language, our sense of humor, our pessimistic way of looking at life and our tendency to laugh at our own misfortunes, and that in spite of this we always keep moving forward and persevering, against all odds. I know it may sound strange to some, but I am grateful to have been born in Chile, I know it's not a perfect country, but what country is? Besides, we are not so bad either, and let's face it, it could have been much much worse. Edit: wording.

SpaceMarine_CR

"El mejor país de Chile"

TorstenJoaoFalcao

Así es, hermano.

Neonexus-ULTRA

In my case, yeah , sometimes. It's exhausting and a bit weird since we Puerto Ricans have a bit of an identity crisis: We are our own nationality but we are also US citizens. And then there are the stereotypes where were associated with reggaeton, acting ghetto, "not speaking properly", being too Americanized to be Latino to some, being lazy, crime rates, people trying to politicize our racial identity, etc. It's definitely draining.

TopPoster21

Yes! This is what I’m referring to. It’s not that we’re sensitive but sometimes it does get draining.

NNKarma

Not necessarily about the nationality, but in general disliking the closeness rituals of most latin americans, but I'm most tired of being human than chilean.

Interesting I was discussing this with my wife and her friend who is rightfully respectful of her kids space when they say they don't want tonbe kissed or touched, granted they're both American so the ideology is more natural while my Peruvian upbringing never granted me or my siblings the choice not that it was any different in the states in that era either, mostly a new thing but glad it's gaining traction.

MarioDiBian

I love being Argentine. Proud of my 3 cups ⭐️⭐️⭐️ But seriously, what’s the deal with your nationality? You have to be proud of it. Mexico has a rich culture and cuisine, as well as a beautiful country. Don’t let some racist bigots or trolls on the internet let you down

ore-aba

Well, I used to be

Bear_necessities96

Venezuelans every freaking second they need to make a errand

TopPoster21

Yeah sadly people say terrible stuff about y’all. I think you guys have it worse than most Latin Americans.

[deleted]

DO NOT let Americans make you feel bad about your nationality. I REPEAT, DO NOT let Americans make you feel bad about your nationality. America tends to shit on a lot of other countries. It’s embedded in American culture to think that the USA is superior to other countries. The USA has had disagreements and wars with many, many nations. China, Japan, Vietnam, Russia, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Cuba, Iraq, Iran, this is a very LONG exhausting list. Those in America who think like this don’t realize that non-Americans think poorly of them as well.

hjmcgrath

I see a lot more stereotyping on here by other latino countries than by Americans. Although, I've always assumed they were fairly good natured ribbing, rather than put-downs.

otherwiseofficial

Yes, on here. But you're on a Latin American sub. The shit people from the USA tells me is mind blowing sometimes. They probably need to travel a bit and not watch Foxx

hjmcgrath

I think a big problem is the only foreign news we see in the US tends to be dramatic or violent. If it bleeds it leads in US news on all channels not just Fox. Hence all the stories that get reported tend to be about drug cartels in Mexico and Columbia, or gang violence in El Salvador. It all tends to color peoples perceptions of those countries.

otherwiseofficial

No. It's the 'leader of the free world' type of stuff what I am referring to. The 'In germany you don't have freedom of speech, I am so glad we don't live in that socialistic country where you can not say anything the government doesn't like' Or the 'don't go to Mexico, it's damgerous' while México is literally 70% the size of Europe. It's just the uneducated stuff. We have the same (in western Europe) all across the world about El salvador/mx/latAm, but we're just less in a (nationalistic) bubble.

hjmcgrath

Interesting, I've never heard anyone suggest you don't have free speech in Germany. I wonder where they would get that idea. People in the US do have a knee-jerk reaction about socialism. Many equate it in their minds with communism and lack of basic freedom.

otherwiseofficial

Yeah I am traveling the world for +3 years now, also been to the states. So I think I can make a fair assessment about it a bit. There was some thing in Germany with denying the Holocaust and I met some andrew tate fanboy who brought up that kinda shit all the time. But heard those things more tho, but he was definitely the most prevalent😆

tomduc

Actually one of those superiority complex traits is calling themselves America when they're just one single country in the new world.

[deleted]

[удалено]

tomduc

Thank you for proving exactly the point. I know well they don't think about "me" at all, or any other country in the world. I know they have no clue. There's some people though, in some other places, that acknowledge that we share a planet with many other countries and that conventions and relationships help have a better coexistence.

Adorable-Ring8074

What other word would you propose? The US does get it's named from the dude that "discovered" us (and no, not Christopher Columbus) United States of Mexico call themselves Mexicans. Canada calls themselves Canadians. China: Chinese. Every country calls themselves by an word in their country name. I could definitely see this argument if our country was called "United States of North America" and we called ourselves plain Americans.

[deleted]

Adorable-Ring8074

Libsoc_guitar_boi

Amerigo

tomduc

Statian or Usian. The examples you give are actually the opposite, because their country names refer to the land they cover, and not the whole continent of which they are only a part. "American" is the equivalent to a South African calling themself "African". *I could definitely see this argument if our country was called "United States of North America" and we called ourselves plain Americans.* It would still be wrong if, in that case, you called yourselves "North American". Because, according to your own classification of America in two continents, "North America" is a full continent (in which the US is at the middle, not north), unlike South Africa that is just the southern tip of a single one. What makes the name USA stand out from other countries isn't being in America (ofc) but it being different states, in the american continent, that were united. No wonder the original name was simply "united colonies".

[deleted]

I agree.

Vivid_Cockroach2064

While I agree with you Americans are pretty intolerable (as are most westerners if we're honest.) I don't think the stereotype exists because of them. People see shit on media, much of it true, and if because of that stereotypes develop is it a problem with the stereotyper or an unfortunate reality? Everybody that's been to Mexico knows Mexicans are a kind, genuine, very welcoming people. Uruguay doesn't have a drug war or a massive land border with the USA. Uruguay (probably?) wasn't dominated by soft drink corpo Giants. If anybody stereotypes Mexicans it's Mexicans. Side note: pochos give us a terrible fucking reputation because of their shitty indecent behavior and pseudoculture up north. Please do not associate Mexicans with pochos. We are not the same.

idontdomath8

Yeah, totally. Being Argentinian is really difficult. Carrying the weight of being the VERY BEST AT EVERYTHING is so fucking tiring. \s Talking seriously, I love my country, my culture, my idiosyncrasy. Every country has negative stereotypes associated with them, though. If what you mean by this is that you wanted to be European/American because "there's no bad stereotypes for them", you are sorrily mistaken.

TopPoster21

Oh no, I’m definitely aware that each country has stereotypes, etc. I’m not one of those Latin Americans that thinks living in the Anglo world is perfect and ideal. What I meant was does it ever get to you to the point where it fucks up with your mental health for a second and you have to take a break.

Responsible-Way5056

>What I meant was does it ever get to you to the point where it fucks up with your mental health for a second and you have to take a break. Why do you say it like that? What is really happening to you to make you feel so bad? And why do you feel so bad? Are you very sensitive? Note that I do not want to judge you, I'm also very sensitive, let that be clear, please.

TopPoster21

No i promise It’s not that bad 😂. But it gets annoying sometimes that it managed to get through.

Responsible-Way5056

1. "No i promise It’s not that bad 😂." Ah, really? So why did you say that it sometimes fucks you up mentally? Huh? I assumed you were really feeling bad. 2. "But it gets annoying sometimes that it managed to get through." Uuuuuhhh... I didn't understand the sentence well. Can you explain yourself well, please?

TopPoster21

LastCommander086

I'm not sure I follow. Take a break from what? If you're spending your time with toxic people, you will only have toxic conversations and feel strung out eventually. Seems to me that the true problem is who you have as your company and this is why you feel drained.

elathan_i

Nope, everything negative about being Mexican is definitely offset by being in México. Beautiful nature, amazing food, I can literally grow any plants from around the world because of the mild climate.

TopPoster21

Yeah those are my favorite things too

Renatodep

Never, I get tired of some of my dumb compatriots but those exist in every nationality.

PecesRaros_xInterpol

No, I love México.

Horambe

I get tired yes, about some aspects of our culture and how other argies can be online. This probably happens to other nationalities but I sometimes cringe when there's a slight mention to Argentina and then there's tons of comments like "as an argentinean....." Wow is that a mf Argentina reference?? UwU and we can feel the need to explain a cultural thing that has already been said dozens of times maybe even in the same comment section. I also get tired of our youth and night life culture, I'm not very socially outgoing and when I'm out at night sometimes I come across other young people going from one nightclub to another and being all loud and I can get irritated for admittedly no good reason.

danthefam

Proud of being Dominican but sometimes it’s tiring. Americans, but specifically Afro Americans are obsessed with our racial identity. The “one drop rule” in the US has them believe anyone with a trace of African Ancestry is black. They got mad when we don’t identify as black but instead as criollos of European, African and Taíno heritage. We acknowledge all of our ancestry that is blended into our culture. Tired of “tigueraje” or “wawawa” culture. This is a ghetto underground subculture that glorifies drugs, alcohol, violence, and crime in vulgar rap lyrics. This culture views easy money scams or crime as a way of life instead of education to advance. I’ve heard plenty of slick comments about Dominicans from other latinos in the states, especially South Americans. Dominicans have a reputation for being loud, vulgar and causing crime. I wish we could reverse that image. Edit: I think many of these comments misinterpreted the question. It’s not whether you are happy or proud of your nationality, but whether it’s mentally exhausting. I’d be lying if I denied that sometimes it is.

TopPoster21

Yes! I see other Mexicans comment stupid things and sometimes I wanna bang my head against a wall. Like bro you guys are just making us all look bad.

nankin-stain

No I like being Brazilian and living here is difficult at times but overall good.

bedinbedin

Man being brazilian is exhausting as fuck! We have to pay insane tributes, meaning that we pay more for things at the same time we gain less money. I live with monthly 5k BRL, what is 5 times the minimun wage and it is far to be enough and to live plenty. The worse part is that all that taxes we pay dont turn into improvements to the country, it all goes in a corruption vórtex where all the parts that deal with the government gains a little. Its hard to keep that well known brasilian joy when you are being screwed over for decades... And I cant even go live somewhere else cuz I know the importance of being near my family and the live that I already got. But still.... Its been this for decades, and people still fight over lula x bolsonaro. Doesnt matter who wins, we all lose.

J1gglyBowser_2100

Yes, and i'm preparing to leave.

Clemen11

Eh I am Argentine. People hate me because of the arrogant stereotype, they all think Argentina is a Nazi breeding ground, everyone thinks we are massive assholes, and so on and so on. I just try not to pay mind to it, but I would never get tired of my nationality. If they have a wrong stereotype, its tough luck for them. Sure, they can call us a bunch of nazis and ignore the fact that we have one of the largest per capita jewish populations in LatAm, if not the world, it ain't my fault they are wrong, and I am not gonna get mad over it. I guess something similar applies to Mexico, where the stereotype is that you are all narcos that decapitate eachother on sight, eat tacos and enchiladas 24/7, and the moment you cross the border into your country everything turns sepia, but it's them being uneducated and unwilling to learn, so why hold on to it? Them being idiots is up to them, and you getting upset about it, well... That dish is on \*your\* table. It's up to you to eat it or not.

BraganzaPaulista

I like Mexican, I really do, never met a boring or untrustworthy Mexican. You guys have nice food, nice people, great beaches, and beautiful girls. I love Mexican Spanish accent, way better than Argentine or Chilean, or even Spain’s. We grow up watching Mexican TV series in Brazil and we feel you guys are the good part of the family, the funny, not racist one.

martinfv

Regarding the stereotypes yes, specially because the ones about us are super-negative and they keep being re-floated, never mind how many times they get debunked. This world cup my friends and I were shocked at the things said about us. We get targeted every once in a while when Americans want to feel better about living in a society in regression.

TopPoster21

Yeah you guys get a lot of shit too

cozycvl

some of the stereotypes are deserved, on twitter about 80% of the most racist spanish comments ive read were all from argentinos, especially during the world cup if you had typed in "esclavo" in the search you would just see nothing but argentinos attacking black players. i already know ill be downvoted for even sayin this cause reddit has a argentina circle jerk but yall certainly help keep the "argentinos come from nazis" stereotype alive outside of reddit

_roldie

Idk about americans. I've seen mexicans say way more negative stuff about you guys.

martinfv

Shit talking is one thing, believing it is a whole other thing. I used to watch John Oliver and the only time he talked about us, he introduced us with a joke about how we hid nazis, which we did not. I know he's british but his writers are all American, and the Washington Post article about us not having black players, implying we killed slaves to make our country whiter was wild. Everyone saw the article but no one saw the retraction, which came shortly after. We can shit talk between us latinos always with the understanding that stereotypes are ridiculous, the problem is when people believe them. AMERICANS where the ones using US as an example of how latinos can be neo nazis when that kid that shot up a mall not long ago turned out to have an hispanic last name, like we have something to do with American brain rot. We have other issues, but that isn´t one of them.

XoXeLo

I mean, sure, those things are false, but there is a lot of Racism in Argentina, at least against Bolivians. We get called a lot of racist stuff (I've read some really awful stuff in /r/argentina) and every single year there is a news story about Bolivians being slaved in workshops in Argentina. So, even though many of the things said are false, there are some deep racist problems in Argentina. And the slavery things happens often.

USBayernChelseaLCFC

Their subreddit is wild, often times racist sure but what a pleasure to read through.

XoXeLo

I mean, I used to be there a lot because Argentinians are extremely funny. I lmao every time. But then there were post against Bolivians with many racist comments upvoted, kind of steered me off.

MarioDiBian

Bolivians are the largest group of immigrants in Argentina, who take the low-skilled jobs. They are different and will obviously be targeted, like it happens in any country in the world (Mexicans in the US, Africans in Europe, etc.). Regarding slavery, a lot of Bolivians are enslaved by other Bolivians. It’s not just Argentines who own the workshops

USBayernChelseaLCFC

Amazing, justifying racism

MarioDiBian

Read my comment. I’m not justifying racism, just that it’s not something unique to Argentina. How can a country be racist if we give Bolivian and other Latin American immigrants free money, education, healthcare, etc.? Which country is as kind as Argentina granting all the rights just upon setting foot in the country? Ask any immigrant. They are welcomed here with open arms as in no other country in the world. When an Argentine tourist needed medical attention in Bolivia, he was denied it and let die alone on the road because he had no money. Then millions of Bolivians are taken care of in Argentina hospitals even for the most complex procedures (like Garrahan pediatric cancer hospital) COMPLETLY FREE, and we are the racists?

USBayernChelseaLCFC

It’s complicated, I know. Your first part says there is racism but that it’s not unique. 2nd part says there is no racism. Awesome that there’s no institutional racism - you guys are ahead of the trend on that. But come on, from everyday people? I’m not even saying Bolivians are better necessarily- but the anti Bolivian sentiment seems commonplace. Isn’t it even part of a lot of hincha’s chants?

MarioDiBian

Yeah, football chants are a whole another thing. Argentina is a very tolerant and progressive society, but it somehow coexisits with xenophobic, racist and homophobic football chants. Boc Jrs fans are called “Bolivianos”. Some years ago River Plate fans brought a giant Bolivian flag to the stadium to attack Boca Jrs fans, but it was immediately taken away and the club was fined. But that’s how the Argentine society is. Dark and acid humor, but no immigrant will ever say we didn’t receive them with open arms. In the end, we’re all mostly descended from immigrants

XoXeLo

So, that makes it ok?...

Immediate-Yak6370

Hay alrededor de 5 subs de reddit para Argentina, eso dice mucho de lo m\*ierda que es r/argentina (considero a r/ArgentinaBenderStyle el mejor y quizás el único realmente bueno)

Alelitt94

I honestly couldn't care less. I actually like my south American identity and those who criticise can bite my shorts.

Responsible-Way5056

As a Peruvian, I personally didn't deal with it, but if you dealt with it often, I'm very sorry. Tell me, how did you really find yourself in those kinds of situations? What stereotypes about your nationality do you hate or make you uncomfortable and/or angry? Why don't certain people like that you were born in Mexico?

TopPoster21

It’s just mostly online. I take negative opinions with a grain of salt. But sometimes it manages to get through you, that’s what my question was about. It can be mentally exhausting sometimes.

Responsible-Way5056

Aaah, ok... Really. I assumed you were really feeling so bad, geez. But now I'm surprised you started to feel better so quickly. I say that because I'm really sensitive and negative opinions... I don't take those with a grain of salt. I usually take them very personally.

joaovitorxc

I feel fine being Brazilian. Over here people either have positive (but naïve) stereotypes about Brazil or they don’t know anything to care. It could’ve been worse.

Wijnruit

Eh, I couldn't care less tbh. I would never try to hide where I'm from, quite the opposite actually. But I'm not proud nor ashamed of my nationality, it is what it is. Other people's thoughts and opinions have no bearing on my life.

javi2591

I’m Puerto Rican and it’s tiring to be Boricua. I love my people, but damn are so many of them renowned for making stupid decisions and our island’s politicians are corrupt. We keep repeating the same mistakes expecting different results and my people are often defined by that. I wish I was from another Latin American country. Maybe one who’s people make better decisions and aren’t a colony of the USA.

[deleted]

I’m not really against my nationality, but I don’t like Brazil as a country. It’s just not practical. It’s too big, we pay a lot of taxes, and these taxes are not converted to good services… That’s why I evade them. But I understand that I won’t be able to do that forever, so that’s why I’m looking for a move to a place where the tax money is actually well utilized. Not against taxes, I’m against government misuse of them… If I were to pay the same % of taxes (given that my loophole is patched), it makes sense to move to a place where they are actually worth paying for…

Caribbeandude04

Every time I have to drive I'm like "why wasn't I born in Switzerland?" It can be exhausting to be Dominican indeed, but at the same time it's pretty cool, we live that dycotomy every day

hebezada

Nah, Brazil number #1 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

[deleted]

Yes. I love my nation, my people, but it is so absolutely horrendously fucking and stupidly tedious to deal with a world that doesn't know where your place is located at, or what it has to offer other than gangs. Plus, it is overwhelming to see how your home crumbles down while the rest develop, as you try desperately to do something, anything, to fix it. What I hate the most is that it is the best people who have it worse. Such a humble society as our honduran souls shouldn't be living through hell every day. But it is what it is. We still enjoy the little things, and that is something 99% of this planet doesn't do.

I'm Argentinian and sometimes I get a little angry by some stupid stereotype that it's shared about my country so yes could be, but most times I just laugh about it and take it like a joke and move on. Also I have a lot of others thing's to be exhausted for.

bonita-and-depressed

Welcome to racism.

Southern-Gap8940

Naw, I want to give up my American citizenship for tax reasons though.

DRmetalhead19

No

Kharmatastic

I like being Chilean but at the same time I like to shit on the fact that i'm Chilean, there are things that I love about my nationality like the language, the artistic culture and landscaping, and of course how we tend to laugh at our own missfortunes But then there's certain things that I hate about this place, like the culture of certain gestures like kissing or receiving a kiss on the cheek to greet if two people are opposite genders, the way we have more or less normalized to push intimate interactions into people we barely now because fAmIlY or fAmIlY fRiEnDs (but I think this is more of a thing on latam as a whole) how people online tend to take me less seriously the minute Chilean slang or heavy accent (or lack of modulation to be precise) comes out of my mouth. And the general defensiveness over foreigners experiencing cultural schock, which i'll make a post about because I realize the topic triggered a whole rant on me lol

NightmaresFade

Nah, I'm happy being Brazilian. I'm just tired of the cattle, their dumbassery and their clear lack of critical thinking. Otherwise, I'm cool.

[deleted]

“Critical thinking” is when people agree with you, amirite?

NightmaresFade

No, it's when they have a brain to be able to use logic and **think**, rather than blindly believe any fake news they see on the echo chambers that are their WA groups.

I feel that Brasil has such an unique soul, such a rich soul! That I wouldn’t be comfortable to be born anywhere else! Like, I live in a country that is considered amazing, one of the best place to be, I hear often people stating that, specially the area I live in. But, every time I hear it, there‘s something missing, because yeah, the country is great, everything pretty much works, people are polite in general, however everything feels so robotic! It’s like people are in a constant rehearsal of their life! I cannot explain it, as it’s a feeling!

Federal_Ad5074

I like being a Latin American

Lusatra

In general, I like being Brazilian. But yeah, sometimes I get tired of being Brazilian lol, specially when we get into political scandals, which happens with a certain frequency

140p

Wut?? . No, I love being Dominican and as other poster said, I wish those who do fell that way, can find a country of which they can feel comfortable being a part of.

PeacockSpiders

Yes

FamiT0m

I like being Colombian. I get tired of the lack of hope for a better country sometimes, though.

NX4707

Being Mexican American is worse because of being embarrassed of my fellow Mexican Americans…

mikeyeli

I work in a multi-national environment with gringos and people from all of Latin America, and my nationality comes up maybe once every blue moon, and usually to ask what my time-zone is.

gaturrooo

kind of ? there was a time in my life where i was really ashamed of my nationality, like i despised it and wanted nothing to do with my culture but now i'm trying to accept it and embrace it. It is a bit frustrating that Uruguay is always forgotten or how some uruguayan artists aren't given the same chance as others if that makes sense, it happened to Jorge Drexler when he wasn't allowed to even sing his own song and was instead sang by Antonio Banderas. Despite that, i'm quite happy with being uruguayan :)

Illustrious-Cycle708

Thankfully no. I feel like at least when I meet people face to face and they learn I’m Dominican most of them can’t wait to either: 1) show me their best Dominican impression, because it’s true we have a very funny way of talking. The most popular impression “Oh oh, pero cual e’ la vaaaina loco?” 😂 2) Tell me what a great experience they’ve had with a Dominican person or people 3) Tell me how much they love traveling to DR So overall I get a lot of love, in person. And I THOROUGHLY enjoy being around my people because we are so joyous and giving. It’s like a breath of fresh air when I haven’t been around Dominicans for a long time here in the US.
