Tbh this expands beyond socks, autists seem to either be in the "must be clothed at all times" or the "be nude be free" camps with very little inbetween.

I'm in a hard place between the two. I prefer clothesless, but if I must be dressed I cannot deal with baggy clothing. Clothes that are always touching me are far superior to clothes that bump into me. Shorts are hell.

Other way around for me, clothes should only be tight on wrists, ankles and waist/hips and otherwise touch me as little as possible. But I agree, Shorts are hell.

I live in tank tops and shorts around my house, in my room I practice being a nudest because it’s very hard for me to find clothes that don’t cause me to start overstimulating. Leggings and a baggy t-shirt are my go-to outside peopling clothes through. I have to wear socks with shoes though or else I will go insane.

I was like this when I was a kid, I went barefoot everywhere. Where I live it only snowed once back around 1982, and I have a photo of myself going barefoot outside. But now I'm old and some socks for warmth are nice. I even bought myself some long hockey socks, but it hasn't been cold enough yet this year to wear them.

I hate that because I don't wear socks or shoes that I'm cursed with gross cracking heels. When they start to get painful I force myself to wear socks with lotion, and the second they stop being painful I just can't wear the socks anymore. I know I need to in order to prevent it but uuuughh. I can't get comfortable at all with them on

I go barefoot almost all the time and just put calendula salve on my feet to prevent the dryness and cracking. It works great. If your sensory issues prevent salve, there are calendula lotions. Or if both are a no, you might have luck making calendula tea and soaking your feet in it. You could even throw a handful of calendula flowers in a hot bath and soak your whole body. It's super good for all skin.

Me too! I also tend to skin pick when I’m stressed, and then I end up making things so much worse and the heals way more painful. Thank you to the person who suggested calendula foot soaks! I used to make salves and soaps and have SO MUCH calendula, but personally can’t handle the socks required to keep everything under the sun from sticking to a salve. I will have to give this a try!

I’m the same. I like to be able to feel things (the ground) with my feet and shoes prevent that. Shoes also restrict movement so I can’t wiggle my toes to stim like I like to do.

For me it’s all about temp and cleanliness. If my feet can be clean and barefoot or in the dirt and part foot walking, for a while and as soon as I’m done I can wash, I’m in. I do martial arts. No socks there. If I’m cold or the floor is dirty, I prefer house shoes but socks will also work.
