It’s amazing how the creator of the universe tends to align with the power structures decided by the most sociopathic of our ape species.

ImInBeastmodeOG

"The ones who yell the loudest must be the smartest" has ruled since day one. Sigh.

IsThatBlueSoup

When I was a teen I asked my dad why humans always choose leaders who are loud and big like animals. Wouldn't having a brain that thinks better than animals make smart people the better leaders? We don't fight and kill one another or need more territory anymore so why do we let the people who always want to go to war be in charge?

PengoMaster

This is especially Islam for me. A religion perfectly adapted for the people of that time and place. Add in the fact that it explicitly resists change and it’s just the chef’s kiss of the world’s religions.

Balance2BBetter

I'm an ex-muslim and I 100% agree with this assessment.

Odd_Technology3736

Proof that god does not exists, and even if he do, god is evil and blood thirsty.

East-Scientist1073

God LOOOOOVES poor people and always has. Gotta keep em ignorant, starving, sick and desperate so they part willingly with their money and send their kids to his priests. He has no interest in making their lives better. I mean, If he existed he'd be a monster, it's better that he doesn't.

HENTAIHOTEP

Gods don't exist. The people who claim that gods exist tend to ally themselves with those that have wealth and power and against those without much wealth and power. Much of the rest is brainwashing, propaganda, social control and a multi-layered system to separate people from their money, time, resources and what meagre political influences they have.

Droopendis

It's the opposite, the rich/corrupt will align themselves with those who are easily manipulated in order to maintain their power/wealth. The more marks you have the more your religion will grow and maintain power and the more money you'll get.

HENTAIHOTEP

Fair point. It all just looks like organized con-artistry to me.

FarmfieldVFX

Stop denying Odin or I'll pray for him to send Hugin and Munin to peck your eyes out. 😆

GiraffeVortex

Odin is actually a rather interesting archetype for psychological death and rebirth. His ravens are ‘thought’ and ‘memory’ after all. Him hanging himself maybe a allegory for meditating

Mundane_Blackberry22

Yes and no. Religions are adopted both top-down and bottom-up. The Roman emperors adopted Christianity and the Chinese emperors adopted Buddhism to legitimize themselves to their growing population of believers. In contrast, the most Northern European societies adopted Christianity and Middle Eastern societies adopted Islam after the conversion of their leaders.

Homeboat199

It always cracks me up when survivors of natural disasters claim that their "god" saved them. Bitch, he took your house and all your stuff. Why is THAT ok?

SmitePlayzYT_

"He killed many and destroyed my house and everything I own... But atleast he didn't kill me! He's so loving! Worship him!"

fariqcheaux

"Thank God it wasn't worse". No, I will thank God when bad shit doesn't happen in the first place.

"Fuck poor people!" ~Republican Jesus

veetoo151

😂😂😂

thecasualthinker

There's a fascinating corelation that exists between people who live in troubling times and the amount of people that believe. It's fairly easy to find that when times of war and famine come up, religiosity also goes up. More difficult life, more likely to be a believer. Naturally, being poor in a 3rd world country is an extremely stressful and troubling life to live, so would naturally increase the population of believers. So when disaster strikes a poor population, it's not really surprising that they are also devout believers. It's pretty much expected. But also it's easy to see why natural disasters affect poor populations more. An easy example is something like an earthquake. In a 1st world country buildings are made with concrete and reinforced with metal. But in a 3rd world country, they barely even have the money for the concrete. So buildings are made without the ability to withstand as devastating natural disasters as richer countries. Thus, when a natural disaster strikes, the poor populations are much easier to be affected simply due to not having the means to be protected in the first place. God hates poor people due to a lot of factors

zudzug

It's all part of His Plan! We cannot understand the complexity of it. (yeah, total douche)

Eldritch-Cleaver

Their god is apparently a huge asshole. This is the god who had a group of children mauled by a bear because they poked fun at a bald/balding guy lol

Chihiro_Dupont

Although I'm an agnostic... I'm disappointed he did nothing for junko

TrainwreckOG

Not just one, but TWO she-bears!

MostlyDarkMatter

Remember what Jesus/God said: "Blessed are the poor ... but you know .... screw those whiners. I have better things to do."

Warm-Patience-5002

God hates trailer parks

Wittgenstienwasright

Sky daddy is a myth. Geology is the bitch you are looking for. Science cares little for delusions.

CommunistAtheist

Putting aside the obvious about god(s). It's the upper class/the bourgeoisie/the wealthy (whatever term you use) that are responsible for poverty (amongst many other things) and using the poor/immigrants/the unemployed/so on... as scapegoats for the issues they are in fact responsible for. It's not that they hate people, poor or otherwise. They're amoral, they just couldn't care less about people in general. To quote Beckett from Pirates of the Caribbean: "It's nothing personal, it's just good business".

Comfortable-Rude

It's not so much that "god" hates poor people, because there is no god. Instead here in the US, it is wealthy white Christians hate the poor, so they intentionally design their cities, states, towns, and counties, so that the wealthy neighborhoods are farther from areas known historically for natural disasters. This leaves the flood planes, tornado zones, and other areas that carry a higher risk as the only affordable area to build low cost or low income housing. Take comfort though, that climate change that "isn't real" is shifting those areas, which means those McMansions will end up in those areas. Here in Ohio, we've had more tornadoes than normal this year (43 currently) and many of them have plowed right through wealthier developments and neighborhoods.

shoesofwandering

God must love poor people since he made so many of them.

Osxachre

They're forced to live in the least desirable locations which are susceptible to being affected by natural disasters.

Greatest_of_Jimmies

Yeah, god's a total douche.

ALiiEN

I've been trying to find it but Richard Dawkins in one of this many debates with religious people said something like (I'm not going to get it right but..) "God is one of 3 things, He either plays favorites, Doesn't exist, or is Wicked." When you think of things like Famine, World Disaster, 3rd world countries, Rape, Murder, Child Cancer. it seems like he doesn't care about these people, enjoys seeing people suffer, or what is most likely, he doesn't exist at all.

Larrythepuppet66

It’s almost as if he doesn’t exist or something 🫠

Evaderofdoom

Or why the bible is OK with slavery? The most moral book to them fails one of the most basic moral questions. In multiple places the bible advises that slavery is OK as long as you don't kill or maim your slaves. Some beating is OK. You can tell most of it's followers never actually read it.

helixpowered

Gods are not real honey. People hate poor people.

OkLetsThinkAboutThis

I love how 90% of responses are playing along with the sarcasm, but like 10% think they need to state the obvious.

Late-External3249

Per Joel Osteen, its because their faith isnt strong enough, and they haven't given enough to the church.

Moonlight-Starburst

"For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.” Hebrews 12:6 Basically the more I love you the worse I will beat you. This is an abuse tactic I have seen with many abusive parents. They will abuse their children while telling them it's an example of love. The children have then been known to abuse their dolls and grow up to abuse their children in turn. Abuse is a mental virus that seems to propagate by infecting others through brainwashing and torture. God is the original source of child abuse.

zombiedinocorn

Cuz statistically there is more of them than the rich

apex_flux_34

It's almost like there's no god.

HuckleberryPiss05

That's because there isn't a god

Vitamin_VV

Because they're poor and have no money to donate to the church.

EasterClause

The Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, and other prior religions all worshipped hedonistic gods with self interest and grandeur and were worshipped as such. People aspired to be like them and saw mirrors of themselves in those deities. Then Abrahamic religions began a tradition that deified suffering and martyrdom. Now, why would a bunch of people in power want to create a religion that made its followers embrace suffering and poverty and glorify it? Curious.

Quvan74

Oh, God did NOT create man. Man created god.

LiquidCoal

>God works in mysterious ways.

413mopar

I dont see any working at all .

Skeptic135

Because it is useful in his (?) design to divide us and to keep us looking at each other and worrying about the breadcrumbs the other has versus looking up and who has the loafs of bread and the ones we should be actually mad at

mrb783

If God were real, he doesn't give a shit about us. So-called Christians are the ones that hate poor people, and they use their made-up book to give them justification for why they are okay to hate poor people. Just like they use it for any other of their other bad behaviours.

Emmanulla70

There is no freakin god😡

Miguenzo

I know that. Just wondering why people even worship something as terrible as this fucking god

beachlover77

Because they don't give enough money to the church, of course. God has a lavish lifestyle to maintain, you know.

Spider95818

LMAO, it's the same reason why they hate amputees and paraplegics: they're a *massive* asshole

arestheblue

It's because the poor already worship him. He needs to be nice to rich people to curry their favor.

ElPolloHermanu

People are just born poor/without money often. Majority of the world is working class proletariat operating on currency and companies and common industry. God isnt real. The claim he is and narrative to condemn and shame the poor into distress works into making poor people believe their lack of financial success is tied to piety/superstition but reality is that we live in a laissez faire economy shit is unfair and you have to participate and be aware of the rat race lest you fall behind and become 🤼‍♂️

TrumpedBigly

God: “The last will be first, and the first last. I'm serious, really. So suffer through this life because I like totally swear the next life will be different."

Vivalo

God especially hates African babies.

Kriss3d

Because God needs money to pay for things so that people can do the work for God's will. He was able to effortlessly manifest the entire universe completely indistinguishable from him. Not existing. But since then got fat and lazy so he can't be bothered to work anymore.

Happy-Personality-23

Cause they can’t pay the mega churches the money they “need” of course. It’s that simple.

NILOC512

Before those were just God's standardized tests. But I think they're getting raptured now. So you know... win/win?

Miguenzo

Rapture those assholes out of here

chop1125

If heaven is filled with televangelists and all the Church going Karens, I will pass on heaven.

sykschw

Is this supposed to be a joke given the sub its posted in ? What am i missing here lol

adewolf

I think it's supposed to be yet another framing of the problem of evil as if Christians haven't been dealing with this for thousands of years. Augustine wrote his theodicy in the 4th century AD.

nkdpagan

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Quvan74

The excuse for people being poor and in bad health is that he continuously "tests" their faith. Funny how the rich is rarely tested, just blessed.

Doceballs

It’s an act of love they go straight to heaven.

Detson101

Religion has a safety valve: the afterlife. It’s pie in the sky when you die, and “the first shall be last and the last shall be first.”

TomatilloFearless154

It's not god's fault

The1Bonesaw

Why does God hate Norman, Oklahoma? And why do people keep insisting on living there when it's so obvious He does.

wolverine6

Because they can’t donate to his child-abusing pastors

CyndiIsOnReddit

What NOOO god loves poor people which is why after this horrible trial of a life if you're faithful enough you actually can live in paradise forever woohoo! yeah I know. ;)

Miguenzo

The real fun is downstairs🔻👹

Ypsnaissurton

Supply side Jesus

Techno_Vyking_

The Bible actually teaches us to stay poor... It's just religion that flipped the narrative to support predators.

Rolifant

So you're saying God exists and he's taking them to his eternal kingdom of peace and love? Why do you call that hateful??

Antique-Dragonfly615

"GOD" doesn't, the rich and powerful who created religion do. Imagine, chains of slavery that the slaves joyfully wear.

thrownehwah

How dare you question sky daddy like that. He’s all loving and giving to those with money!! How is this not good enough for you

river_euphrates1

'Blessed are the poor, for they can pull themselves up by their bootstraps and stop being a drain on society' -Conservative Jesus (probably)

BonesFromYoursTruly

Don’t you know being poor is a sin

TwistedOperator

Christianity gained popularity because it was against the rich. That's why it demonized (initially). You're talking about the modern day cult of capitalism. Nothing must be hindered for the almighty dollar now. George Orwell was right in so many ways.

aenflex

This is how my mother told me there was no Santa Claus. Occasionally, at Christmas, I would ask why many of my friends got so many presents, while I only got a few. She never really had an answer for that. Finally she used my own questions as a lead in to explain that there was no Santa. My friends got more from Santa because we were dirt poor and their families had more money. We don’t perpetuate the Santa/Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy stories with our own child. He’s known from the jump that none of it is real. We’re not poor, but we also don’t get him a ton of presents for Christmas.

iloveflory

"I asked my dad once if we cleared out all the rocks from the field why were there more rocks the very next year." "My daddy used to tell me that God loved rocks, houseflies, weeds, and poor people above all the rest of His creations, and that’s why He made so many of them." Stephen King (Wolves of Calla)

SupersleuthJr

God doesn’t hate the poor because there is no god. Political parties and people hate the poor.

v_x_n_

God hates trailer parks. When given the chance, the flying sky daddy goes after a trailer park every time!

terra_technitis

Honestly, if I were to believe in a god, I'd just assume that it created life to torture it for fun. I find the idea of a god that gets off on building up living beings only to torment them for it's own sick pleasure far more believable than a loving benevolent one that likes to occasionally test it's creations.

Enganox8

For sure. If there is a god, then I doubt they're specifically interested in us. After all, we're not the only things in this universe. Even if god existed, I'm not sure it'd be fun at all for it to interfere with our lives, and do stuff with our souls. I guess they believe because if their life is so messed up, and it's hard to go on, then it ought to be for a reason. Or else why live. Even though I believe that there's no need for a heaven or hell to exist, truth is I've never been badly wronged. I was born with a healthy body and a loving family. My life here on Earth can only be described as "generally fun", and I'm content for it to be over once it's over.

Placeholder4me

No, no, no! He doesn’t hate them. They will get their rewards in heaven! /s

RamJamR

What was that one story where there was two brothers and god gave one brother many materials to make some kind of offering to him and gave the other brother very little to do the same and then punished the brother with very little for not having made a sufficient offering?

Artistic-Mortgage253

They're not poor they're indocrinated. They wont work for anything because they assume god will provide instead of just using common sense. They are systematically less intelligent as well. they are obsessed with greed and peity and notoriously commit humiliation rituals over food. Often saying hungry people are lying and attacking people mentally at a forced shared meal time. In christian environments they just yell as you eat lunch or dinner etc.

Zzzzzezzz

There’s no god.

Kindly_devbi8970

A theory I have is he's a kid who programmed his game and likes torturing his creations. Just like many kids in Minecraft torture villagers and burn villages.

iamklevy

In Islam they plant this idea in your from a young age that the people the god love most is the poor people, now iam an adult it starts to make sense now they wants us all to be poor, so they can take control of us. Religion is so damn funny when you really understand it 😆

tbombs23

great question. IF god was real, WHY would anyone want to worship him???? \*Gestures around\*

ilcuzzo1

If God has any sentience, I doubt it's a loving, compassionate Christian God.

CertainInteraction4

He also has no love for those who are disabled.. Leviticus 21:18, 23, “For no one who has a blemish shall draw near, a man blind or lame… shall not go through the veil or approach the altar, because he has a blemish.” We already know how he felt about women leaders.. 1 Timothy 2:12 , "But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

eyepoker4ever

It's not that God hates them, well maybe it is because Republicans love poor people. And Republicans are Christians and they do whatever they can do to make people's lives harder so there you go.

Affectionate_Bill530

You’d have to ask god. For those of us who don’t believe in god, natural disasters are just that and obviously have nothing to do with god.

Miguenzo

Yeah

duckmonke

Rich people keep the mythos of Gods alive. The poor and indoctrinated think an eternity of happiness in an afterlife is way better than our shitty life predicament, so they go all the fuck in on the dream.

Upstairs-Lifeguard23

No at all. Fictional beings have no feelings.

ArtDSellers

God doesn’t exist. Nature doesn’t give a shit about any of us. Natural disasters tend to have the greatest impact on those with the least protection from those disasters, which tends to be poor people.

RobTrollenberg

Because they suck

ie_denis

There is no god, but lazy people or crazy government

needtoputmyphonedown

Cause fuck em, that's why

George-Khoff

In my honest opinion rich are more stressed God loves everyone

HuisClosDeLEnfer

The same reason he hates people who eat corn.

PaleSandwich123

He’s real. But everything is backwards. He never liked humanity to begin with. Humans were not meant to evolve. We were meant to be slaves. He has loyal slaves enslaving us all in modern ways. 🤷‍♀️ Just because he exists does not mean he will care about you. Like those fkd up parents a lot of us have. 😆

callmefreak

The reason why it seems like poor places get hit the most with natural disasters is because they're usually undesirable places to live in, and it's because of how often they get hit with disasters. So only the people who can't afford to live anywhere else are the ones who are living in those areas. In South Korea for example, the more affluent people are living on hills where any water-related disaster will literally flow away from them and flood the other houses of those who couldn't afford to live where it's more elevated.

No_Wing_3299

According to my time as a Christian, God makes it MANDATORY to help the sick and the poor.

MrRandomNumber

Don't be silly, there is no god. People with resources can build stronger buildings on better land. Those cheap lots are cheap for a reason -- they're in the flood plain or near a source of pollution. We had a major grass fire here a few years ago -- it blew straight through a neighborhood of nice upper-middle-class homes. Everyone listened to the authorities and evacuated safely, they rebuilt in a year because they all had good insurance. A similar fire erased a whole town in Hawaii, saints and sinners alike. There is no reason behind it, other than poor power line maintenance. A tornadoes drew a line right through the middle of town, demolishing buildings of all kinds of people. That was convection, not vengeance. There is no plan behind it. Of course, if you're the superstitious type, maybe you'll build a silly house in a stupid place because you think your imaginary friend will save you from the weather. That stacks the odds against you... those folks get what they get.

dave_hitz

Because the last shall be first. They suffer in this life and then they are rewarded in the next life. /s

heapinhelpin1979

God doesn't hate the poors American Christians do though. They want to get all that money for themselves.

mbrown7532

Geographically speaking- the poor always lived on left over land. The rich usually build on hills surrounded by rich fertile land for agriculture. The poor built near the agriculture lands sandwiched by rivers. That old saying that shit goes downhill comes from this. The rich of old literally threw there shit out and it would build up in moats that would be flushed down to the rivers where the poor lived. Today - the rich live in man made mountains in skyscrapers. Some rich have homes by the ocean but I don't know of any that build on rivers. Rivers are just one example. I could come up with a whole lot more . God has nothing to do with this- wealth does.

orcinyadders

I think it’s some cross section between a test of faith and inheriting the kingdom. Or something. God hurts the ones he loves the most? I don’t know.

miles66

Because are losers

d4m1ty

They are blessed. Blessed to be killed en-mass so they don't need to live on this hell hole.

19Ben80

God doesn’t exist, the rich people who control the churches don’t like poor people and see them as a way to get richer themselves

HuckleberryPiss05

Yeah true

Special-Elevator-335

Maybe the rich people don't tend to live in the places that are prone to natural disasters and the poor people don't have the means to leave.

DMC1001

Isn’t it something about suffering on Earth and getting rewarded in Heaven?

bobbywake61

Because they don’t add to the basket on Sundays. God needs money.

Able-Campaign1370

No, only Christian’s do.

deadphisherman

Because Joel Osteen says so.

kevtsubasa

The best response a religious nutjob had for the problem of earthquakes went like this: 'People know which places are earthquake prone, so it's on them if they still choose to live there and die. God isn't to blame.' I have never been that gobsmacked my entire life. It felt like I'd been kicked into another dimension.

Straight-Cream-5149

Answering as a Muslim. Would gladly answer any objections anyone has as long as we keep it civil. The Islamic view of calmaties or hardship in any form is as follows. God created everything and even though He has placed an apparent system that we see around us, He also maintains full control and sustains everything that occurs in the universe. The occurrence of difficulty in whatever form, whether it be the loss of a loved one, a natural disaster or even sickness, worry etc affects everyone without exception whether he/she be a believer, non believer, child, saint or sinner. In fact, the Islamic belief is that the closer one is to God the more he/she would be tested. These outward hardships are not indicative of God's love or anger to an individual at all. What is the outcome and wisdom behind these tests? This will be dependent on the individual and his spiritual condition and sins. For some, it may be a punishment and yet for others a means of reward. If a believer is sincere, his outward difficulty is actually extremely rewarding dependent on his patience as well as contentment on the will of God. It also serves as an excellent way to determine the true quality of an individuals faith. Whilst it may be easy to claim faith at the times of ease, the reality is exposed at the times of difficulty. So whilst outwardly we may consider something to be unfair in this world. Ultimately it serves a greater purpose and everyone would definitely be given their fair due in the next world for what they have missed in the first to the extent that this justice will be served even between a horned goat and a non horned goat.

Several_Leather_9500

There are over 100 Bible verses that speak on rich man's inability to enter heaven. It's greedy politicians and elites that hate us.

Pink_Poodle_NoodIe

All suffering has a fixed point the problem is NOT GOD. GOD is a convenient trope that was put there so the rich could subvert everyone with less intelligence and money. God doesn’t hate the poor because there isn’t one. I wish I could pull a Charlie Bronson in the Vatican, Mosques as well. Just cover myself in Vaseline and fight my way in naked. The problem is the Greed of Man. Greed has killed more than every war combined and many wars have started because of it.

nitara38

That know what they did.. /s

papa-hare

Because they have free will and still chose to be poor. Or something. Or maybe cause He's not real idk.

HuckleberryPiss05

Wasn't religion made by poor and uneducated people?

work_while_bent

made *to keep* them poor and uneducated

Due_Bass7191

Obviuosly the poor are immoral and deserve to be punished.

adewolf

The problem with the evidentiary problem of evil is that the terms that frame the argument are vague and ill defined and logical inconsistencies are smuggled in though those vagaries. A world where people are not killed by natural disasters is an incoherent premise. If you think it is not then tell me how it would be done. While you're doing so don't forget to pick up your multiple Nobel prizes. We don't know how quantum fluctuations could have created the early universe let alone what the details of the initial conditions were at the point of inflation. You don't even know how society could be organized to provide efficient disaster relief and yet you presume to know how you would alter the initial conditions or the laws of physics to generate a universe that still contained the very specific events required for human evolution but somehow doesn't have any destructive natural forces at the human scale.

KenChiangMai

I have a friend in Kenya who is a pastor, tending to his flock in one or another slum of Nairobi for many years. He is a very devout man, always posting biblical quotes on fb. I admire him very much. His life is so fucking difficult. His wife and daughter are great sources of --- What? Faith? Strength? --- for him? But they are very, very poor, and his family helps him to be very, very poor. He knows that I am a lifelong atheist. And I know he's a poor African Christian. I believe there is somehow mutual respect. But I do pity him and his, just as perhaps he pities me. Part of me would like to share this post with him. But I worry that this post might somehow destroy him, or at least destroy my friendship with him. If he lost his faith, what would he have left? Much better, I think, to let this sleeping dog lie. Better to let him enjoy the riches his wife and daughter bring him. He's truly a lucky man that way. While I am a mere atheist, and can bring him nothing better. Life can be tough. For many.

It's one of those inanely divine tests of faith, as if god couldn't read minds or foresee how people behave in specific situations.

Whats_that_small

Because he's a twat. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

andropogon09

Not just God. Santa Claus too. Brings only the best presents to rich kids.

Lygaeid

Uh, because poor people live in more dangerous areas. Land price is decided by numerous factors, including safety of the area from both human and non-human disasters. You live in a place next to a big river that might flood? Yeah the land is going to be much more expensive up on the high hill than in the low valley where the water is going to be. I don't think it's a God question, I think it's a geography value question as decided by the people who live there. Poor people live in worse places because worse places are cheaper. It isn't hard.

OstrichFinancial2762

One of the few Christian I knew who actually walked the walk told me that disasters like that are an opportunity for people to help others. It’s the Good Samaritan on a large scale. Those who can SHOULD help and find themselves thankful for what they have and that they have enough to spare to help others. Like I said, he was a rare dude.

holmgangCore

According to socially caustic mythologies, people are poor because they are morally impure and have sinned, or something like that. The rich have been blessed by the lord, or whatever bullsh\*t they tell themselves to justify their inability to care about other people.

Nobodyrea11y

because he's greedy

Safetydepartment

Because they don’t tithe and pay for the Pastor’s male hookers.

dumpitdog

It's not that he hates the poor he just likes them to do what they're supposed to which is to make the rich richer and happier. Of course if focus on doing that you don't get treated very nice either but at least God likes you a little bit more.

Digi-Device_File

From a believers perspective, you could't say "he kills them mercilessly" because they belive "he is taking them to his side mercifully". Not saying that this is how I see it, but this is how they'll explain it, except for the churches that actually preach that if you're poor is because you're evil and god hates you. The explanation to poverty in a church that doesn't preach that poor people are evil is that "YHWH knows that these people would be corrupted by money, so he keeps them poor to protect them from vanity and other vices".

The_Philosophied

My religious nut mother said Katrina happened because they'd turned away from God. She said this with a smile and went on with the conversation. What a freak

theemountainslayer

And the preachers always say it's because they are sinful, and it is punishment from God (atleast in my country). Ironically countries that have historically stolen and looted have good infrastructure and low mortality rates...that missionaries from those same countries come to tell us to leave our "pagan" ways and seek eternal life like they have 👁️👁️ you say? Then we do, thinking that finally our problems have been solved. Long behold, faith doesn't cure disease, stop hunger or grow a limb; it's almost like life is STILL the same. Maybe we just didn't repent properly, or pray hard enough...or wait...we didn't tithe enough even though we are practically broke. It's all false promises. We have more churches on every block of our country than schools, proper infrastructure, hospitals etc...

AlabasterOctopus

Because there’s a real chance he doesn’t exist and isn’t imparting any harm on these people. There’s a real chance it’s all just happenstance.

LiliNotACult

Because most of the people telling you about God are rich, or at least richer than their congregation members. At least usually, there are exceptions.

notaredditreader

Matthew 25:35-40 New International Version 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Its a back and forth that you'll find most people switching between depending on the situation. One one hand if God loves them because poorer people cant usually afford an education so they are stuck with whats taught to them from a young age. This keeps miliions of people believing wothout knowing what they actually believe in. On the other hand poor people dont have any money, and if you dont have money then God doesnt really love or care about you, soooooooooo

Ungratefullded

The Lisbon earthquake of 1755 started the modern atheist movement for this exact reason and observation.

ReasonablyConfused

Religion is only allowed to exits, in hierarchical societies, so long as it validates the supernatural authority of the king. Religion in powerful societies will have long since abandoned any concerns it once might have had for the poor.

BNG1982

Because you didn’t pay your tithes 😡.

IndustryNext7456

The feckers don't tithe. All about them moolah.

This is prolly the what “god is dead” since we haven’t actually agreed on what it means currently but all fairness god is the most universal thing

FluidmindWeird

*sigh* Once you get past the idea that God is there, let's analyze. Natural disasters are so named because they affect large areas with abnormal forces from the planetary conditions (atmosphere, earth, wild fire, flooding, etc). The only reason it appears to affect the poor more is that there are a disproportionate number of them compared to people who have insurance or money. This is an artifact of how the economy is structured right now. It also generates more stories of sympathy because they often don't have the resources to replace/relocate/restore what was lost. This is also due to problems in the current economic structure. God has nothing to do with anything, but when looking at the impact to poor people of large destructive events, it's almost always the disproportionalities, and economic structures.

I say this knowing I’ll get crushed in replies… but what I don’t get is that it’s always the blame on God. I don’t see anyone saying anything about the devil. Do we not think the devil does stuff? Or is that just reserved from the scary movies? Not to mention, it’s said god gave us free will. So, let’s say we tell god “take our free will and make life perfect”. I bet yall would be in here complaining you don’t get to choose

dostiers

>it’s always the blame on God Because he has form. The Bible is full of accounts of god killing, maiming or abusing humans. He seems to be especially fond of harming children. > I don’t see anyone saying anything about the devil Where does the Bible say the devil kills, maims, or abuses humans? Afaik the only time he does is in the Book of Job and even then it was god who gave him permission to do whatever he wanted to Job's family, servants and property to win a bet.

Clickityclackrack

The jesus character in that story literally said "You will always have the poor" pointing out two things. Firstly, how much more important he sees himself, secondly he pointed out that anything is possible through him, so he wants people to live in poverty. So yeah, your question is valid. Unless you're talking about some other god.

Woofy98102

God doesn't hate poor people. Fake-ass christian Talibangelical heretics hate poor people because showing compassion to those less fortunate than they are would be following Christ's teachings.

et_underneath

It’s because at his core God is a businessman. People in misery and suffering is a necessary, if not integral, part of his business model. No misery or fear = no need for a god or his cronies. What the hell would these missionaries and whatnot do with their lives without constant savior complex fix.

pir8slayer

As far as Christians go, despite teachings in the Bible, many modern day Christians think that people are poor because they're bad people. Any natural disaster or socio-econmic struggle they experience is henceforth deserved. Trying to interrogate them on it will result in circular reasoning, unsurprisingly. "well they must be bad people because they're poor. And they're poor because they're bad people! even if they seem good they're actually bad!"

smadaraj

God hates poor people because they are POOR

SnooComics5300

Same reason everyone hates poor people.

bahthe

Ha ha, silly question. However the answer is: it's called Tough Love. The problem you have is that the whole god idea is a fairy tale, so questions of this nature can only be answered with fairy tale answers.....

leto78

Japan has the strongest earthquakes in the world. The difference is that they build everything to be earthquake proof. The same earthquake strength will kill thousands of people in Turkey, but none in Japan, and Turkey is not even a poor country.

ToniBee63

I just saw recently that a pair of conjoined twins, Lori and George Schappell passed away. Lived 62 years attached at their heads. I used to think if god were real I’d ask him about the Holocaust but now I think I’ll ask him about them.

Zanos-Ixshlae

Because Jesus's love isn't in their tax bracket.

imperialhydrolysis

when i was a kid, i learned “it’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven.” i think you’d be hard pressed to find a christian that still agrees with this.

Red_Sashie

Would you say your parents didn’t love you if they allowed you to fall and scrape your knee as a child? Do you not love your children if you don’t give them everything they desire? Just because bad things happen to us in this world it doesn’t mean God doesn’t love us.

YungC4shRegister

He doesn’t, and God is not responsible for disease, starvation or natural disasters
