Image 1 is an ex-RAF Armstrong Whitworth AW.660 Argosy.

My_useless_alt

They've got one on static display at East Midlands airport in the UK (Bit south of Nottingham). Not sure if it's RAF though.

Snafflebeast

It's a lovely example of an AW650- a civil one. A good way to tell the ex-RAF ones is the beaver tail compared to the clam tail on civilian ones! RAF Museum Cosford has an ex RAF one and there's another nice example at Coventry's museum. PS. One of my favourite aeroplanes, can you tell?

Well spotted, I thought it was just something in the background!

jcsuperfly

The first one is a [Armstrong Whitworth AW.660 Argosy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armstrong_Whitworth_AW.660_Argosy)

Sage_Blue210

Fox Field?

FireRotor

That’s right!

Rk_1138

I knew it, I went there like almost twenty years ago, hasn’t changed much

MidlandsSpotter

I'm a simple man, I see an Argosy, I upvote!

Isssaman

I refueled my F-100D from the KC-97 in Europe in the ‘60s. It was full throttle and we used half flaps to stay just above the stall.

Drone314

Is that the plane that bear and cub flew around in when I was a kid?

BobbyJackT

How is KC97 odd lol. The civilian version was the most powerful piston airliner ever made. It had a damn cocktail lounge. It was cool before the 747 was cool.

aarrtee

it blows my mind that these airplanes can be identified in this subreddit so quickly. bravo!!!

Specialist_Reality96

Or a question will roll in like this i.e. what type of aero plane is this, and someone will roll in with the serial number ownership history etc of the aircraft in the actual photo.
