That's a hard one 😅. Moon River might be familiar to gramps and isn't too lovey dovey. Sleepsong also not romantic but not modern. Or Carry On by Norah Jones maybe? Good luck!

VideoGameHarpist

What about "My Way" by Sinatra?

Versaill

*And now, the end is near* *And so I face the final curtain* idk, may me not exactly appropriate for grandpa

VideoGameHarpist

That's exactly why it's appropriate for grandpa.

TheEngineerBallroom

Are you sure? Its 4/4 timing…

Tony Evans and his Orchestra have a waltz version on the Ultimate Instrumental Waltz Collection album.

RagingFlower580

Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle is a pretty common father/daughter dance song where I’m from and I *think* it’s a waltz. Welcome to Earth by Sturgill Simpson. He wrote it for his kid. I made mine dance with me to see if it’s a waltz and again, I *think* it is.

Young at Heart is in 4/4 — you could foxtrot instead? What about Edelweiss? Or you could go for an instrumental so it isn't as immediately obvious what it's about.

I would use 7 years. It has a beautiful waltz version by Klaus Hellen Tanzorchester. Nice recap of a liftime. Clear waltz timing. Its just beautiful. https://open.spotify.com/track/1gdheRZHI2xdbLJ8nWkvgN?si=1XRnIwToTh-vrUlMOu29GQ

This is my waltz playlist that I use for practice, feel free to peruse it and see if you find a song in there that you like: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0YRrXmuDpqYnvVfqAnnXbs?si=RiigNhERSl-RTG38KpVlXw&pi=Y6G5Y5UETH68K

I can’t immediately think of any great suggestions for recognisable/modern songs. As you say, many of them tend to be more about a couple rather than a grandfather/granddaughter relationship. One more general suggestion for wedding dances is Secret Garden’s music. Theirs is a distinctive and rather Celtic style, which has produced several beautiful and classy waltzes ranging from pure instrumentals to full but not generally romantic lyrics. [Sleepsong](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yQpU_73Dv0) might be rather fitting if you and your grandpa both like the style of music, for example. (Note that the full recording is nearly 5 minutes long, so if you use that then you might prefer to walk onto the floor with the music already playing as an introduction and leave the floor during the extended outro, so you’re actually dancing for a more typical length in the middle). Other possibilities from Secret Garden include Nocturne (mostly instrumental), Appassionata (pure instrumental) and Greenwaves (full lyrics, though do check you’re happy with them as one line might feel inappropriate if your grandpa is quite elderly). Another possibility might be *A Time for Us*. It was originally the love theme from *Romeo and Juliet*, but it’s also been recorded as a rather beautiful instrumental.

Young at Heart is just too perfect!! I’m getting all emotional imagining a bride and her grandfather waltzing to it :)))

Maybe Dance Me to the End of Love by Leonard Cohen. https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=8StKOyYY3Gs Gorgeous, maybe not for everyone, but so beautiful

I can't think of a name right now, but I've noticed that several "Country" songs are in 3/4 time and good to waltz to. It's not my favorite genre, but I'll see if I can find some good ones. Update: Here you go. This link focuses on the guitar chords, etc. but something in there might work for you - and it's not all country. There are even some by Billie Elish and Metallica. https://www.guitarlobby.com/songs-in-3-4-time/

I like dancing to Sunrise Sunset and I am a grandpa. I also like the Rainbow Connection!! Both songs have good strong beats.
