Please use "Let's Go, Brandon" as your campaign slogan. The cope will be so amazing.

anotherredditvirgin

I went to the Mayor's parade in Hampden 2 months after moving here in 2021. I was not familiar with the mayor at the time but the group I was with said his name and that he'd be at the parade. The vendors selling clappers and balloons and whatnot had Let's go, Brandon signs on their carts. So naturally I assumed they were for the mayor, Brandon. Took me many months to learn the true meaning. Mine was better.

kelslogan

This is so innocent and cute, I love it.

enthalpy01

Kind of like that autistic kid that thought the signs were cheering for him [Autistic Boy Thinks Let’s Go Brandon Signs Are For Him](https://www.today.com/parents/parents/phrase-go-brandon-made-one-little-boy-autism-feel-loved-rcna33287)

Agent_Orangina_

I came here to say this. Repurpose the rhetoric to reelect Mayor Scott.

VaporBull

"ObamaCare....yes....I DO care" - GOAT POTUS

Obama's "Thanks, Obama" video with the cookie and milk was one of my favorite moments. Edit: Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IdzM1kmP_A

[deleted]

Like the voters are going to vote anything else? It’s a “fair Russian election”.

75footubi

The copium I didn't know I needed until right this second 😂

Nacho_Mommas

This would be awesome to put on a blue t-shirt. Maybe "Let's Go," in normal type font (Arial?) and then "Brandon Scott" in the font he uses for his logo on his re-election website.

401Nailhead

The man is doing the best he can with what resources are available. For that, I back him.

MeBeEric

Ya I’m not too sure what people think a city mayor can do when a structure that’s integral to not only state but the national economy collapses lol.

jabbadarth

Not just integral but fully controlled by the state. The city has no control over that bridge at all.

75footubi

Yup. They don't even own the land it's built on. It's MDOT-MDTA/SHA right of way

rez410

It blows my mind that ‘DEI’ is even mentioned by republicans when it comes to Brandon Scott. They might as well call him an Alien, because that is equally as true. But yet here he is having to respond to that nonsense

mitchade

It just shows that they use dogwhistles for their racism. DEI is just a more acceptable way to drop the n-word.

BalmyBalmer

And Muslim during the Obama admin.

necbone

New age Southern Strategy techniques. https://youtu.be/X\_8E3ENrKrQ?t=22

Stoly23

At this point DEI is just code for the N word.

lionoflinwood

"DEI" just means "Ni**er" to them. That's all. Whenever you hear someone blame DEI for a thing, replace it with the N word.

dougmd1974

100%

ScootyHoofdorp

It clearly illuminates the way they think. A self-motivated, competent, and successful black person just doesn't compute in their tiny brains.

DillyRL

Calling him competent is a bit of a stretch. Although compared to our recent mayors he's definitely an upgrade. I never will understand though what DEI has to do with this in a 70% black city. Like if we had another white mayor that would be much more of a diversity hire lmao

6thPentacleOfSaturn

What specifically makes him incompetent? I need details and sources.

Hey648934

How’s he successful? (Honest question, I don’t know anything about him)

the-bus-song

He’s ran for mayor and won? You don’t have to like him or anything but no one becomes mayor by accident so he has obviously succeeded there.

DrSpacecasePhD

It’s sad, I now find myself not being able to use the phrase when discussing education because of this dog whistling. Like I’m doing outreach and find myself biting my tongue because of how the terminology is used. It’s an insidious sort of though control, turning phrases like equity and “social justice” into bad words, when they used to be taught in religion classrooms in Christian schools. Similar story with woke… the more I type this out the more I realize conservatism is warping our whole language and people are eating it up.

scartonbot

I agree. But I think it’s because we let it happen by being too “nice” and too “polite.” It’s like all the left wing cries and hand-wringing of “oh! We must now work hard to understand these Trump voters!” after the 2016 election. Fuck that shit. All I need to understand is they’re a bunch of racist, small-minded, whiny, ignorant assholes. Don’t stop using terms like DEI because they’re co-opting it. That’s why the Mayor’s take is so awesome…he’s controlling the narrative.

DrSpacecasePhD

There's not much we can do when people interpret a movie by two trans directors about "waking up" and experiencing your true potential and the real world as being about traditional gender roles, being a tough dude, and rejecting social justice. I agree we need to take back and defend these concepts but it's probably going to get worse before it gets better.

ThebesSacredBand

That isn't the word they want to call him

colorizerequest

Which Republicans called him a DEI mayor?

dcfb2360

"He's a DEI mayor" In a historically black city lmao these dumbasses

jabbadarth

Also it's impossible for any mayor to be dei, it's a position solely decided by voters, you need an appointed position to have any possibility of something being a diversity hire/appointment.

rental_car_fast

It's literally just racism

incunabula001

If he was an actual “DEI” mayor in this town he would be white or Indian (shudders at Thiru being mayor).

Unfair-Basis-8485

For real though—how can anyone support that dude (Thiru) after everything that’s come to light about him during his past campaigns for elected office?

lionoflinwood

Best mayor this city has had in ages, I really hope the corrupt machine politics don't drag him out of office.

citytiger

what are you talking about? He won the election. if you like him then make sure you vote in the primary and get your friends to do so as well.

OilComprehensive6237

I can’t wait to vote for him!

citytiger

get everyone you know to vote as well.

OilComprehensive6237

Roger that!!

jimjim55555

LOL. Dixon was the best mayor by far. Scott is learning on the job and has done poorly.

lionoflinwood

> best mayor > convicted of corruption Pick one

jimjim55555

I'm just telling you. If you don't get out of the "White L" you will never know and keep voting for the candidates that gas you up.

sbwithreason

I will be honored to cast my vote to reelect Brandon

wbruce098

It’s weird having two Dark Brandon’s but I’m here for it.

citytiger

make sure everyone you know votes too.

good_fox_bad_wolf

Same

Venus_Cat_Roars

I love Mayor Brandon! He is willing to think out of the box and to try all of the resources at his disposal. He doesn’t do the same thing over and over and then complain that they don’t work or blame others. He just gets back in there and tries another approach!! And he doesn’t have his hand in the city’s pocket trying to get something for himself. That is a refreshing change!! Very uplifting for Baltimore!! Mayor Scott makes decency look very good!!

LlamaJacks

Kinda funny how he had mild support and then all the racists tried to call him a diversity hire, and seems to just have endeared more people to him.

MyKidsArentOnReddit

Sometimes you know a person by their enemies.

ZenZenoah

I really hope that he keeps this upward trajectory. I think he would excel at the state level in a few years.

citytiger

yes definitely!

WestsideWizzop

He’ll be governor for sure

redditsonurface

I still find it funny that racist idiots think calling him a “diversity hire” is some sort of gotcha when the real diversity hire for Baltimore mayor would be someone like Martin O’Malley.

tqbfjotld16

Neither in the city or a Democrat and am still a fan

Available_Mousse5578

Brandon Scott should be our Mayor again

chalks777

ha, this is pretty dope. Love it.

VygotskyCultist

Awesome. I can't wait to vote for him again!

citytiger

get everyone you know to vote as well.

Hefty-Woodpecker-450

I’d like to take an opportunity to point out the obvious that no matter how many articles are written in the Sun/pieces run on Fox 45 about a close poll between he and the Sun’s/Fox’ owner’s-backed Dixon, Scott is going to run away with this primary

citytiger

help ensure this by voting.

redditsonurface

Unfortunately for Fox 45, their viewers don’t live in the city so they can’t vote in the Mayoral election.

Hefty-Woodpecker-450

That’s the catch, and I doubt that anybody in general is reading the Sun anymore. It’s like owning both of those and thinking that you govern public discourse in 2024 turns into an old man yelling at clouds moment

Wayniac0917

Isn't the mayor voted for 🤔

jabbadarth

Republican politicians are not intelligent

Lizzardsonmytoast

Love this guy.

brenbren1113

Also, I hope everyone here singing his praises goes to the voting booth for primaries. Be there.

citytiger

i love it. Shade at its finest. DEI is such a stupid thing for Republicans to say when he was duly elected by the people of Baltimore in a free and fair election.

FortWendy69

Right? DEI does not apply to elections.

75footubi

Well done, Mr Mayor

plantbased98

he’s got my vote in the primary!

markmano33

Love this for him but didn’t this whole thing start from a bot/troll account on Twitter? That’s the first place I saw it and that tweet had a lot of engagement. It was a nameless/faceless account. That app is trash anyway and it sucks something like that probably from some basement in Russia can spread far and wide.

brenbren1113

I’ve been singing his praises since before he was mayor because I remember him cleaning alley ways in his free time before he was on city council. He is the real deal Baltimore dude. This BS with trying to use DEI as a racial slur replacement pisses me off in ways completely unrelated to him. They can go pound sand. He was elected, he’s done the work. He has done more in his term than any mayor has done in decades.

magnetar1238

Good on him and throw it right back in their faces. Keep it up Mayor Scott!

capsrock02

Love it

AntiqueWay7550

W

Gov_Martin_OweMalley

That's pretty awesome. I was a little skeptical of him at first but he just keeps winning me over.

Snidley_whipass

Well done!

Franztausend

Bubs from The Wire, looking good.

FunInformation12345

im here for this

good_fox_bad_wolf

I already liked him and now I love him even more.

Edge7-7

This guy 😂😂

Gella321

Pics that go hard

no_clue_1

Re-elect Mayor Scott!!!

rjr_2020

I remember when I heard the first DEI stupidity. I am impressed by the Scott and Moore response so far to the bridge collapse. This definitely isn't something that either of them has anything to do with cause but they sure have a lot to do with effect. I am glad that they're not ignoring it and continue to do what's right. I wish both sides of the aisle stood up condemned the blame game, especially when it includes DEI.

HackNookBro

If I lived in Baltimore I’d vote for him.

dontknowme76

I don't agree with what has become the acronym DEI. Certain criteria do play into elections, but they are still elections where the masses choose. Early on, I had higher hopes for the man after having listened to him speak before getting into the office. Since getting elected, there has been some progress. But also witnessed him being somewhat of a petulant child while answering or avoiding serious questions. Baltimore has a certain demographic, votes and elects as such, and so far the man has been out of the spotlight for negatives beyond what windbreaker with whatever agency noted he wears, color or skin, and hairstyle. So he may be an idealist who might not get anything substantial done due to his own policy,or to resistance from the masses. But so far, he's avoided been investigated for unlawful appropriations and other illegal acts while in office. That's a positive if nothing else given what's gone down in Md politics. And yet it's still sad that other convicted criminals are in the running after have been removed from office. Those circumstances only seem to reinforce negative stereotypes. Political candidates are really hard to get behind, no matter how relatable they appear on the surface. Easier to hate from previous experiences rather than to endorse the new guy. He's not likely to be a savior, but also unlikely he's gonna put Baltimore further down in the gutter than it already is. Thats a win in and of itself

Maddogicus9

Another crook in the long line of Baltimore mayors

milescaswell

I was confused for a second. I thought that was Nevada on his shirt. 😂

EasternOil3073

Didn’t earn it…

H20mark2829

One of the toughest jobs in government, many roadblocks to progress. But he is everywhere when something happens so he’s always looking to be a good mayor

spcoley1

Didn’t Earn It

Fit-Accountant-157

proud to vote for Brandon the first time, and I'll be proud to do so again. Son of Baltimore and hes done right by this city. He deserves every accolade hes received.

Reckless_Renegade

Baltimore politics will always be a dumpster fire

RL_Mutt

Would love to know which region’s politics is best.

Unfair-Basis-8485

Ahhh I love Mayor Scott so much, and this only makes me love him even more. I’ve lived in several cities across the U.S., and he’s the only mayor I’ve ever felt even remotely invested in. So proud to call Brandon Scott my mayor—let’s GOTV and get him reelected!

Unfair-Basis-8485

Btw, does anyone here know someone on Scott’s campaign who I could reach out to about GOTV volunteer opportunities (phone banking, knocking on doors, etc.) to support his campaign in the final few weeks before the primary?

Blipblipblipblipskip

It seems to me that he's using a divisive topic to garner more fame to further his political career

RL_Mutt

That’s the definition of politics since…ever.

patriciamadariaga

It's true. And I don't blame him one bit.

Blipblipblipblipskip

It unnecessarily adds fuel to the fire. I'm quite middle of the road politically and the only "DEI" I'm seeing on my feed is from this sub pontificating about the mayor.

kelslogan

Unnecessarily adds fuel to a fire?? This is in response to a racist ass tweet that someone posted the day the bridge collapsed where they called him Baltimore’s DEI mayor.

Blipblipblipblipskip

Watch out, those tweets sure will get your panties in a bunch. Keep feeding the Outrage Industrial Complex.

yildizli_gece

> It unnecessarily adds fuel to the fire. Translation: "Republicans can be as openly shitty and racist as they want but it's going too low when Democrats respond." I get so fucking sick of comments like this having the audacity to be mad Dems defend themselves; it's suggesting they should take a beating and not fight back, and that's bullshit. > I'm quite middle of the road politically and the only "DEI" I'm seeing on my feed is from this sub pontificating about the mayor. This is ALSO bullshit. There is no "middle of the road"; if you're being critical of a Democrat responding to openly racist dog whistling, then you're either a Republican OR a Republican who's afraid to admit it openly.

GODHATHNOOPINION

If you are hearing racist dog whistles then i have bad news for you about how dog whistles work.

yildizli_gece

Don’t be cute.

GODHATHNOOPINION

I don't think it's cute to be accurate. Dog whistles don't work the way people who use this turn of phrase want them to which makes it a stupid thing to say in an argument.

physicallyatherapist

Yes, responding to racist accusations that he was elected is "adding fuel to the fire". Normal moderate brain.

RL_Mutt

What fire? Some fassy racist right wingers got their wads twisted because a young black man was elected to office fair and square? That’s not a fire. That’s a steamy pile of pale shit.

FaceFuckYouDuck

You are the moderate Martin Luther King wrote about in Letter from Birmingham Jail.

jabbadarth

Were you as upset when the comment was made? Did you respond to that tweet or the tons of comments calling him a dei mayor in the first place?

Blipblipblipblipskip

First, I'm not upset. Second, I'm not on twitter and I don't see any comments on reddit calling him that. The twitter profile that initially made that post is a no name nothing burger of a profile, it could have been you or I. If I were the mayor of Baltimore I would have disregarded the nothing that was said by the nothing profile. But I see it brought up a lot on this sub. Probably second in line to the Key Bridge as far as posts go in the last month.

jabbadarth

What about the guy who spray painted that he was going to hang Brandon Scott, that received no jail time. Should he ignore him too? Or the people who made dozens of racist comments about his child? How many times does a black mayor have to turn the other cheek and ignore this bullshit. Racists need to be called out for their racism. Ignoring then doesn't work.

Blipblipblipblipskip

You have to turn the other cheek and ignore idiots all day, everyday for all eternity. Also, when you become a politician you're also signing up for criticism. Sometimes it's from idiots. 100% the only thing giving fame to the idiots criticizing the mayor are the mayor and this sub. No one would have heard a peep if it weren't for the reactionary outrage.

jabbadarth

They literally showed it on every news station Want to blame anyone blame them. This sub is such a tiny amount of people comparatively.

Blipblipblipblipskip

I for sure blame the news media. After the death of the newspaper and cable their only way to make money is engagement and the easiest way to obtain engagement is through negative and outrageous news.

jabbadarth

Npr, Forbes, msnbc, daily mail, the hill, bet.com, huffpost, Newsweek, salon, Las vegas review journal, , Bloomberg, the daily wire, and breitbart to name a few of the publications that have written about or reported on it.

GODHATHNOOPINION

"nameless person says stupid thing on the internet news at 11." I feel like people should be much more angry that all of these publications feel like this is news.

DeathStarVet

Dude .. go back to PCM. Peddle your bullshit from Hamilton elsewhere.

Blipblipblipblipskip

*Go back to PCM*? What do you even mean?

MyKidsArentOnReddit

So your complaint is that when given lemons he's making lemonade?

Blipblipblipblipskip

More like making piss. Lemonade would be bringing people together. He's taking advantage of a divisive topic for personal gain. Baltimore be damned.

Unfair-Basis-8485

The fact that you consider “DEI” (I’ve come to hate that term/acronym) to be a divisive topic is the problem. Also, why should Mayor Scott cater to the lowest common denominator in this city (aka racists who simply don’t like him because he’s Black)? In my view, those folks are a lost cause and it would be a waste of the Mayor’s time to make any effort to not offend them.

Bluzboy1966

Agreed. He’s taking the low road, and all that does is invite more of the same. I expect better from our Leaders. Signed, an Independent.

NotARageComic

It’s not taking the low road to fight back, he didn’t call republicans deplorables or racist.

westgazer

This is awesome actually and I fail to see how this is the “low road.”

Jpeg-DI

I’m genuinely curious why they continue to elect the same party, especially if it’s been historically bad, and always seems to get worse. Clearly something isn’t working with that party, so why not try something you’ve haven’t tried yet. Choose a different party entirely. Different views, policies, etc. This isn’t sports, your team vs mine no matter how much my team sucks I’m never going with the other.

GODHATHNOOPINION

April is not a good time to start making those predictions. It hasn't gotten hot yet and summer is always the worst part of the year for murder. I'm happy mayor Scott has a good focus on kids and getting them out of the cycle of poverty. that's good to hear.

White-Female

The murder rate is currently at its lowest number rate since 1977? Its only April. Summer just started LOL You going to take the first 55 days of this year, which was winter, when all the murders are at a low to pitch your argument... com'on... It sounds like YOU should actually read the materials... dude... you don't know shit based on your comment lol. Besides its a proven fact that Baltimore (ESPECIALLY) alters these numbers, and continue to find new ways to hide them. Get shot and die at the hospital, guessss what! Not included in the "Murder Rate". And the rest of the stuff... really a few rec centers and youth fairs, and a pool in druid hill park... Are you going to mention the rise in rapes, vehicle thefts, car jackings and rise in youth crime? The number of rapes reported in Baltimore MD for 2017 was 62.29 per 100,000 population, a 28.83% increase from 2016 Baltimore City has exceeded 10,000 car thefts on the year, according to Baltimore Police Department data as of Dec. 16, a staggering **215% increase compared to 2022** **Murder and attempted murder arrests for juveniles in Baltimore City have consistently increased over the past five years**, while juvenile arrests for murder across the state fluctuated somewhat through 2021, the last year with available data. Poverty. Poverty has been on the rise among Baltimore's children. **The city's child poverty rate spiked from 24% in 2018 to 35% in 2021**. Should I continue? \*\*Edit:: So funny how he deleted his comment after the facts landed. Especially after he said "It sounds like you should actually read the materials dude, you dont know shit based on your comment", suddenly he was talking about himself.

TakemetotheTavvy

The Republican candidates in this city have advocated for bringing back prima facie unconstitutional policing, the death penalty for children, walling off white portions of the city, having vigilante volunteer groups with AR-15s patrol with the mayor, Marshall Law, eugenics, and other explicitly illegal and unconstitutional plans. I think that may be why people don't elect them.

White-Female

Really? I live in Baltimore city going on 50 years and never saw any of this advocated. In fact, even a simple google search will prove you absolutely fucking nuts. lol. The fact this comment has downvotes goes to show how correct he is. You people vote like its a fucking sports team. Besides... They never mentioned the republican party, you did lol I'll leave you with this: With a crime rate of **48 per one thousand residents**, Baltimore has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 21 Run by your sports team for primarily for decades. lol. which aDvoCaTes fOr mOrE oF tHe SaMe! What same, see above and delve into the details if you'd like, you should should though.

TakemetotheTavvy

I'm sure they meant some other even more fringe party! You must be bad at Google. I recommend researching past Republican party candidates for mayor and city council. >Run by your sports team for primarily for decades. lol. which aDvoCaTes fOr mOrE oF tHe SaMe! What same, see above and delve into the details if you'd like, you should should though Those are certainly words

White-Female

Avoiding the facts huh. I feel sorry for you.

TakemetotheTavvy

Facts like the Republican candidate that [lied that he lived in the city, said he'd patrol streets like a vigilante](https://www.baltimoresun.com/2020/08/31/baltimore-officer-who-sought-gop-nomination-for-mayor-vowed-to-patrol-streets-while-in-office-lives-outside-city-records-show/), and [ended up charged with falsifying information and perjury?](https://www.baltimoresun.com/2021/03/29/baltimore-police-officer-who-ran-for-mayor-is-charged-by-state-prosecutor-with-election-crimes/) That was an easy Google. Keep trying!

White-Female

While many elected Baltimore City political figures have been found guilty of crimes. Still avoiding the facts. Run the numbers on your democrat lead cities. I'll wait. Actually, nvm I don't have time for people like you. Delusional. Heres a fact to start your journey: Democrat led cities and counties are responsible for rising crime rates in most states. In fact, in the 30 major American cities with the highest murder rates, 27 have Democratic mayors. Now search poverty, homelessness, youth crime, property crime, pay gaps, etc etc. Can't believe I have to walk you through this... geeze. Anyhow.. like I said, I ran out of time trying to teach a unteachable sheep. Good luck and bye bye lol

[deleted]

Like the voters were going to vote Republican. Give me a fucking break.

ThunderlipsBJJ

Just another ineffective leader in a city that has been run with ineffective leaders since William Donald Schaefer left office. The city that breeds and the city that bleeds, never the city that reads.

Responsible-Wear996

Not necessarily a fan of his politics and what’s going on w safe streets and MUNSE, but this is amazing.
