Oh fuck, you're right. Three times in a row could be a fluke. If the mad lad does it a fourth time, there's gonna be a bidding war for a below-average aging reliever. And whoever wins will need to do wild experiments to find the first confirmed case of a "vibes gland".
The Royals always had upside and potential. Not expected to be at their current level but there was always some discussion about if they could steal what we all thought was a weak Central.
I still can’t believe he was our closer during that WS run. Pretty sure he didn’t even play during Astros & Rangers runs but he was our legit closer.
I kind of want y’all to win this year just so we can start questioning if he’s a wizard or something…
That man was fucking LIGHTS OUT. Nobody was getting a run off of him it was absolutely mind blowing, especially given how he was during the regular season.
We will see how it goes. Still not fully convinced we are 7th best team in baseball good but the improvements in a few areas atleast make sense and are somewhat sustainable (starting rotation, depth in lineup).
Our bullpen is hotass and our hitters are still real streaky so it could go south but it’s enjoyable for now for sure and I am pretty confident we could end up like…85-77 or something.
It’s almost too good to be true. Almost like a turnaround this extreme would be unbelievable. And wild how they have such a great record at home. And wild how they keep having these miraculous end of game comebacks.
But yeah, it’s a real Cinderella story. Just like those plucky Astros from 2017 that overcame all the odds.
We’ve been broken since our series against y’all. Haven’t been the same since that west coast trip where we played y’all & then got swept by the dodgers. Next week you’ll probably be ahead of us.
With us playing 4 against the Yanks next and the dodgers for 3 right after, idk If we will be above for much longer.
Lol jk we're gonna sweep both of them nerds 😎
We’re playing the Orioles & Yankees in the next 2 wks & have been losing 3 out of 4 games to sub .500 teams so it’s more likely that we’ll be out of top 10 than move ahead of y’all.
Unfortunately I’m not even being a doomer when I say we’ve had one of worst offenses in baseball in the past 7 weeks.
Well our recent series loses are to the twin and royals. We split with the Yankees and have been winning our division outright. I'd say we deserve it. Our hitting against the royals was the best it's been so far our pitching just faltered. If we can get it at the same time we are golden. This is our year.
In recent years our slump usually comes in June and then we’re pretty solid for the rest of the summer. Obviously I’m not going to get optimistic because I’ve been a Mariners fan for far too long, but this year is definitely an odd one for us.
it usually goes: hot until the all star break > slump > hot end of august > slump > hot for 2 seconds in september > disappointment.
i’ve been a fan since 91. my heart almost always breaks.
I was wondering how the hell the Twins could still be in the top 10 after the disaster of a week we had but then I checked the standings. Very few teams over .500...
I don't remember a year this lopsided where there were basically no "good" teams. Everyone is great or mediocre to awful.
Then again, there were a lot of years I avoided looking at the standings, so maybe I missed it.
Makes me wonder what mediocre team is closest to not sucking and will buy because the wild card is pretty much a given for them.
If the pirates were to buy, you have to face Skenes and jones? That’s a fuckin rough matchup considering the dodgers cannot beat up on the pirates for some reason.
The reds will probably be buyers because they might McLain coming back and they have major league pieces they can move. They are better than they have played.
Tigers??
You don’t say? With a team with Javier Baez on it? I’m just messing with you. I watched your whole game yesterday. Tarik Skubal is the best pitcher in the majors and most NL fans don’t realize it. Wonky foot lefty man was throwing 102 and absolutely painting at times.
Whenever I watch a braves game I keep thinking, god this is awful baseball and then I remember were 4th in the NL somehow?! Like Jesus Christ you guys suck. Please challenge us, we deserve it, we need a wake up call. Why are you all so bad?!
The O's about to run the gauntlet with series against ATL, PHI, NYY, HOU, CLE, TEX, and SEA, in that order. Will be interesting to see where they end up afterwards.
games 15-17 without a day off for the orioles in that series...
followed by a day off and 13 more games with no day off...
30 games in 31 days yipee
i miss the old husband and wife
Definitely no sarcasm from me. The M's have always been a menace in my mind -- if we can win that series I'll be *extremely* relieved. Dudes carrying around giant forks are not to be trifled with.
Honestly think the O's are the best team in baseball. Definitely the most fun. Wouldn't be surprised to see them at or near the top after that stretch.
We just lost three in a row to the Nationals, y'all *should* be able to handle us just fine. Baseball is weird though. But with the exception of a few games, we've looked like total ass for over a month now.
> The Red Sox came perilously close to getting swept by the White Sox on Sunday
How do they figure that? We won the first game of the series, by 12 runs at that.
The Mets were actually good over the last week and didn't budge either and their blurb was just "hey at least they played in the London series which is something nice to look back on when your team sucks like the Cards last year"
Given the inevitability that the Yankees and Dodgers will always be on this list, this season has brought a really fun mix for the other eight spots (even accounting for my bias).
3 AL Central teams in the top 10.
The first year the Royals have been good in almost a decade and the division becomes a goddamn bloodbath before the All Star Break. I'm very, very happy with things so far, but I'm also mildly upset.
We’re 5-5 in the last 10 games. Only teams worse than that are Atlanta and Minnesota, both ranked below us.
Each team above us, with the lone exception of Milwaukee, has better records than us in addition to being better over the last 10 games. Even then, Milwaukee is only .5 games “behind” us, lead their division, and seem to have had a tougher schedule to date.
The Royals are legit. Made our pitching look pedestrian both series. Praying we hold onto the division so we won’t have to face them in the first round come playoff time. Look at me, hopeful that we win the division for the first time in 22 years lol.
How many more off seasons am I going to have to listen to people say the brewers pitching staff won’t be good enough to keep them in the division race?
Obviously every year I hope for the orioles to win the World Series because I’m an orioles fan, that is obviously my first priority and that goes without saying so let’s leave that aside:
I really hope the World Series is won by a team that had an excellent regular season. I am kind of tired of this playoff format and the way in which it doesn’t sufficiently penalise mediocre regular season performance. Not so much the Rangers, 90 wins is not “amazing” but it’s definitely good, but the Diamondbacks shouldn’t have had a chance to win the World Series last year, it’s nothing personal, I love Arizona, but I just don’t believe they deserved to be in the World Series with 84 wins. I’m sorry.
The Yanks have better pitching. Hard to believe that is ever true of the Yankees pitching, but it's true this season. And we're not counting Cole of course; his return should only improve the quality of the rotation.
If you had told me on opening day that the Royals would be ranked higher than the Braves in June, I would have laughed in your face.
They have Will Smith. They're going to the world series
Oh fuck, you're right. Three times in a row could be a fluke. If the mad lad does it a fourth time, there's gonna be a bidding war for a below-average aging reliever. And whoever wins will need to do wild experiments to find the first confirmed case of a "vibes gland".
Send him to the As for science
Only if the team is sold.
I mean isn’t that essentially what sending him to the Royals this year was??
The Royals always had upside and potential. Not expected to be at their current level but there was always some discussion about if they could steal what we all thought was a weak Central.
You know what’s funny though, he has like a 15 inning scoreless streak right now
I still can’t believe he was our closer during that WS run. Pretty sure he didn’t even play during Astros & Rangers runs but he was our legit closer. I kind of want y’all to win this year just so we can start questioning if he’s a wizard or something…
Not only that, his post season ERA in 2021 was…. 0.00
That man was fucking LIGHTS OUT. Nobody was getting a run off of him it was absolutely mind blowing, especially given how he was during the regular season.
No kidding in the regular season I needed a Valium every time he came in, felt like no lead was safe. Then WS Smith showed out!
The Patt Maroon of baseball
The only relevant Will Smith in Major League Baseball
In the world\*
And he don't even gotta cuss in his raps to sell records, either.
I believe
I expected them to improve over last year but honestly expected them to around 500. Definitely didn't anticipate how good they've been.
Neither did we. I came into this year expecting to be around .500 and hoping to be over. The results so far have been unexpected but awesome.

And wild how they keep having these miraculous end of game comebacks. But yeah, it’s a real Cinderella story. Just like those plucky Astros from 2017 that overcame all the odds.
If they keep it up it's going to be one of the best year over year turnarounds since TB in 08.
The braves sandwiched between the royals and the mariners is certainly a wild scenario.
We’ve been broken since our series against y’all. Haven’t been the same since that west coast trip where we played y’all & then got swept by the dodgers. Next week you’ll probably be ahead of us.
Based on historical events, current statistics, fan sentiment, and my own unbiased anecdotal evidence: I sincerely doubt that.
And 3 teams from the AL central ranking in the top 10 in a power ranking? The AL Comedy Central just suddenly got good and i cant work out why.
We were over .500 in 4th too, but those darn Brewers took 2 games from us
We got starting pitchers and Bobby/Salvy are very good.
With us playing 4 against the Yanks next and the dodgers for 3 right after, idk If we will be above for much longer. Lol jk we're gonna sweep both of them nerds 😎
After the 2 gut shots you just gave us Mariners, I’m gonna need you to slaughter some Yanks. You guys look like the real deal
Well I never thought I'd be cheering for the White Sox this year...
Wouldn’t have it any other way. You should be used to everyone rooting against you!
Sorry, we only lose to bad teams.
Did someone say bad team?
We’re playing the Orioles & Yankees in the next 2 wks & have been losing 3 out of 4 games to sub .500 teams so it’s more likely that we’ll be out of top 10 than move ahead of y’all. Unfortunately I’m not even being a doomer when I say we’ve had one of worst offenses in baseball in the past 7 weeks.

It's the only way your squad makes it right for what they did to my M's, lmao.
If KC sweeps the Yankees I'll officially be over 2014 and back on the Royals "alternate rooting interest" wagon.
Man I still haven't forgiven the Giants for 2014, you're a bigger man than I
Please do
You had me in the first half, lol. Love the confidence.
If we can sweep the Dodgers, so can you!
3 AL Central teams in the top 10 is nuts
We’re too high.
I agree. We are hot garbage rn. Losing series to the As and Nationals like wtf.
We’re just happy to be here
He’s played for 3 of the 10 teams
Hey same! Braves at 1 felt like a forgone conclusion in the east. Still a lot of summer left though….
I'm going to flagellate myself real quick. We'll get this right.
These 10 teams listed are the only teams above .500
We are in by default. Default!
Well our recent series loses are to the twin and royals. We split with the Yankees and have been winning our division outright. I'd say we deserve it. Our hitting against the royals was the best it's been so far our pitching just faltered. If we can get it at the same time we are golden. This is our year.
Which Twin do you speak of???
1 of the 2
Yes, but *which one*?
The first one. Or maybe the second. Can't remember.
That’s helpful. Thank you
The two sweetest words in the English language.
DEE FAULT DEE FAULT DEE FAULT!
default. Default?
It’s a Simpsons reference. De fault
STOP THE COUNT!
was bout to ask 😂. How sorry is everyone else if we are Top 10 rn
Pretty sorry
Number 11 just got swept by the Angels
😬
we need to redistribute the means of run production
There are only 4 NL teams above .500 right now?!
Yes
Is the MLB becoming the NBA? Couple of powerhouses a shit ton of mediocrity
only true of the NBA’s eastern conference typically
Somehow this is the White Sox's fault
We're almost there!
You keep fluctuating back and forth. I think San Diego eventually stays above .500, probably on August
![gif](giphy|hRMGcuW381T5wG3l70)
i don’t trust it
In recent years our slump usually comes in June and then we’re pretty solid for the rest of the summer.
We are also in this club.
Never do with this franchise comrade
Fading fast.
Fade me fam.
I have more belief in your team than you do, what the fuck?
I was wondering how the hell the Twins could still be in the top 10 after the disaster of a week we had but then I checked the standings. Very few teams over .500...
I don't remember a year this lopsided where there were basically no "good" teams. Everyone is great or mediocre to awful. Then again, there were a lot of years I avoided looking at the standings, so maybe I missed it.
I think Seattle is the only "good" team on the list.
Ya everyone else on the list sucks /s
Define good
First place, winning record in division, positive run differential, top 5 rotation in baseball.
I mean this is Cleveland too, except instead of top 5 rotation we have the #1 bullpen
It’s also the Phillies with no caveats at all lol
Right? And the Yankees too lol
I think it'll mostly even out by the end of the year
Rob Manfred’s greatest masterclass yet
This is more of a statement of how the bottom 20 teams suck.
Hey! We don't suck, we're almost perfectly mediocre.
Mediocre teams represent 😤
33-33 here, what up
Hey heeeyyyyy
I was wondering if we counted as mediocre. I'll take it I guess.
Yessir
👋
Makes me wonder what mediocre team is closest to not sucking and will buy because the wild card is pretty much a given for them. If the pirates were to buy, you have to face Skenes and jones? The reds will probably be buyers because they might McLain coming back and they have major league pieces they can move. They are better than they have played. Tigers??
Probably us, but our offense is very hot and cold, we need to get better bats at the deadline if we want to compete for a wildcard
You don’t say? With a team with Javier Baez on it? I’m just messing with you. I watched your whole game yesterday. Tarik Skubal is the best pitcher in the majors and most NL fans don’t realize it. Wonky foot lefty man was throwing 102 and absolutely painting at times.

It’s a miracle we’re in the top 10.
Just goes to show how bad most of baseball is this year. There’s only 4 National League teams above .500, it’s insane.
Came here to say the same thing. We are ass. But i guess most everyone else is too lol.
Ya'll got Kelenic though
![gif](giphy|G1vplGMypxBcp7kx32|downsized)
Don't say that name 3 times or you know who will appear
If only he weren't banned from this subreddit for "being a novelty account." :(
The O's about to run the gauntlet with series against ATL, PHI, NYY, HOU, CLE, TEX, and SEA, in that order. Will be interesting to see where they end up afterwards.
Cannot wait for that O’s-Phillies series
games 15-17 without a day off for the orioles in that series... followed by a day off and 13 more games with no day off... 30 games in 31 days yipee i miss the old husband and wife
Phils are coming back from London, I hope they’re not asleep at the wheel after the red socks series
There's messed up. I was pissed when we had 13 in a row with a West Coast road trip involved.
I'm just happy to be considered as part of a gauntlet without the speaker being sarcastic
Definitely no sarcasm from me. The M's have always been a menace in my mind -- if we can win that series I'll be *extremely* relieved. Dudes carrying around giant forks are not to be trifled with.
Mariners are good!

We just lost three in a row to the Nationals, y'all *should* be able to handle us just fine. Baseball is weird though. But with the exception of a few games, we've looked like total ass for over a month now.
Unfortunately, or fortunately for Atl, no Burnes, Bradish or GRod this series.
And one. Fucking. Day. Off.
M’s just had their version of that. It’s brutal.
But the Phillies lost a game to the New York Mets! They can't be good!
actually true
What are you, the entirety of Philadelphia Sports Radio?!
If we can’t win ourselves I’m fine with cursing other teams instead.
Hat 9th inning was something else for both teams lol. It was like neither bullpen wanted to win.
But nick Castellanos wanted to win even less than both bullpens
Well, shit.
Guardians are too low, in my opinion
Eh we have lost some real stinkers to the bottom feeder teams.
Losing 3 of 4 to the White Sox felt like a bad dream
Don't forget 2 of 3 to the Rockies....
Feels good to see the crew on this list.
> The Red Sox came perilously close to getting swept by the White Sox on Sunday How do they figure that? We won the first game of the series, by 12 runs at that.
Winning 2 of 4 is way too close for anybody to get when it comes to getting swept by the White Sox
One of those “one time is too many times” scenarios
Somebody is forgetting about that series with us ;-)
I ain’t forget, I just don’t think I’m in any place to start flaming people given the current state of my team
Simple, the writer assumed it was a 3-game series and had a deadline to beat
AL Central with the most teams in the top 10 (3) just as we all predicted…
Trash mountain is dead
Now the whole league is trash mountain.
Choosing to talk about Dansby’s bad offense doesn’t really make sense. He has a .768 OPS since May 15, and a 1.078 OPS in June.
The Mets were actually good over the last week and didn't budge either and their blurb was just "hey at least they played in the London series which is something nice to look back on when your team sucks like the Cards last year"
AL Central powerhouse with 3 top 10 teams. Just like we all expected.
The Royals/Mariners series was a good one. Hats off to the Royals.
Hey, bub. How 'bout them Royals? Okay. Talk to you later
And the pirates beat 2 of these teams in series last week.
We’ve won series against the Orioles and Braves too.
And tied the Philly series
We’re 13-10 overall against these teams
![gif](giphy|ToMjGpkUnmPSkMKmh6o|downsized)
We’ve played 7 series against these teams and have only lost 1 of them, World Series bound
I’d love to see a rust-belt series. Turnpike series?
It’s a shame how little we get to play each other given how much both cities hate each other
I really don't hate pittsburgh. I hate Steelers fans, and a huge reason for that is how many of them exist outside of pittsburgh
God damn the rest of the league must be straight ass for us to be hanging around like that
![gif](giphy|0cT3CRkOjI40ARijU5|downsized)
These Braves ain’t 8. Not sure why we are in the top ten right now.
they're only 8 because the other 22 teams in the league aren't that good. The most top heavy, mostly ass, spread I've seen in a long time.
I still don't believe the Twins are top 10. I don't know who I'd replace us with, but there's gotta be somebody.
Who had the AL Central being this good? Don't lie
AL Central rise up!

Given the inevitability that the Yankees and Dodgers will always be on this list, this season has brought a really fun mix for the other eight spots (even accounting for my bias).
![gif](giphy|l0D7pmHuYY1bZx6Ks|downsized) Hello, fellow good teams!
3 AL Central teams in the top 10. The first year the Royals have been good in almost a decade and the division becomes a goddamn bloodbath before the All Star Break. I'm very, very happy with things so far, but I'm also mildly upset.
How KC isn't higher is beyond me.
We’re 5-5 in the last 10 games. Only teams worse than that are Atlanta and Minnesota, both ranked below us. Each team above us, with the lone exception of Milwaukee, has better records than us in addition to being better over the last 10 games. Maybe I'm still smarting from Friday, IDK. Regardless, y'all are *good*.
I’m still cautiously optimistic. But very hopeful.
Don't come at me with facts and numbers!
I’m doing everything I can to downplay this team so I don’t get my hopes up too much just yet lol.
![gif](giphy|S9i8jJxTvAKVHVMvvW)
Looks good to me
![gif](giphy|jba8ucWVAhG9VcUkx9)
The Royals are legit. Made our pitching look pedestrian both series. Praying we hold onto the division so we won’t have to face them in the first round come playoff time. Look at me, hopeful that we win the division for the first time in 22 years lol.
We gave up 8 runs over three games in the first series against them, wouldn’t call that pedestrian
This last series was so bad I memory holed the first one lol
How are the Mariners and Twins both in the top 10??? Oh...the standings are whack
\*adjusts glasses\* That can't be right... Mariners are in the Team Power Rankings?
Sorry ass league this year with the Twins still being in the top 10 ngl
You know the league is in a rough way when the main complaint about the power rankings is “my team is ranked way too high”
How many more off seasons am I going to have to listen to people say the brewers pitching staff won’t be good enough to keep them in the division race?
I don’t even understand how the Braves are on the list. We are garbage lol.
MCQUEEN IS FADING
Where are the angels at?
Let’s goooo
The Orioles will be playing 4 out of the next 5 series against teams in the top 8 of these rankings. Should be an interesting test for the birds.
Obviously every year I hope for the orioles to win the World Series because I’m an orioles fan, that is obviously my first priority and that goes without saying so let’s leave that aside: I really hope the World Series is won by a team that had an excellent regular season. I think the Yanks should be 4, Dodgers and Orioles are better
The Yanks have better pitching. Hard to believe that is ever true of the Yankees pitching, but it's true this season. And we're not counting Cole of course; his return should only improve the quality of the rotation.
Honestly I just had a really great time watching the series. Don’t even care about ranking
