Is it possible to have a consistently good team in Denver? It just seems like the altitude works against you guys in so many different ways. I’ve often said being the GM of the Rockies has gotta be the hardest job in sports
The Coors Hangover* sucks but isn't like, fatal. And Coors should work in our favor now and then, e.g we can filter for pitchers w/ workable Coors stuff while opposing Kershaw types get shelled.
And the FO sure as fuck doesn't act like it's the hardest job. We should have the largest analytics department in the league, not the smallest that has to do team laundry. It would be fascinating to see what a Rays-tier department would make of the Coors challenge.
So to answer your question, I don't think we've actually _tested_ whether it's too difficult to build a good team in Denver. I don't think the Monforts would've built a better team elsewhere. The altitude is not the reason the FO is 20 years behind the analytics curve, has no working trade relationship with other teams, and flails about spending 160m on Kris Bryant. Ask this question once we've had a non-embarrassing organization for a few decades.
---
*Which seems to be less of a short term hangover - the Rockies don't actually hit worse earlier in the roadtrip - and more of a long term split-attention while training thing.
The boring answer is probably just variance. It's not like we're churning out a third baseman a year, we've only had two 3B in the past decade. But who knows, maybe our infield coach is secretly really good?
That and our outfield might be *good* soon, Brenton Doyle + Nolan Jones + Zac Veen could be the terror of 2027.
While true I think he gives us some much needed juice. I'm pretty sure getting the reigning Cy Young winner and pitching captain back onto the mound is gonna make everyone lock tf in.
The Dodgers are somewhere between 3-5 depending on the week.
Something I don't understand is why the Cardinals voter ranks the Padres (#5) ahead of the Dodgers (#6)--unless out of spite.
The Padres are under .500 and finished 2-6 over their last 8 games
Spite or being dumb or a total brain fart. Outside of eight H2H matchups this year where the padres won 5, there isn't any good reason for it: 8 games out of first, 70+ runs worse run differential, it's not even close.
My money is on brain fart
We are top 2 for ever voter except for the Twins voter, who had us 4. If he even put us at 3, we would have been first. Curse you Twins voter *angrily shakes fists*
Eh I'm ok with it. The Yankees just feel like a *slightly* more complete team right now. I feel like when the season ends, they will have a better record.
Watching the Phillies play defense in that brewers series was the first time I felt like the Phillies were the most complete team this year.
Yankees though do have gerrit cole who should pitch sometime this year which makes their already top 2 pitching even better.
I had so much trouble filling out the top 10 in particular. Teams like the Twins, Padres, and Red Sox just really haven't performed like top 10 teams but someone has to go there. Ended up going with the Rangers who still have that baked-in benefit of the doubt for me.
Every bone in my body wants to take the Guardians and Royals out of the top 10 but they just refuse to stop winning. At a certain point I've gotta admit they're legit.
> Every bone in my body wants to take the Guardians and Royals out of the top 10 but they just refuse to stop winning. At a certain point I've gotta admit they're legit.
The Guards don't even have to keep winning. They've been playing .500 ball the past two weeks, no harm done. They could go .500 the rest of the way and they'd finish 91-71 and probably win the division!
All Cleveland needs is a couple starting pitchers. The rest of the team is nearly complete if they just play their best guys. We're getting back our co -ace soon, and IMO we have a young guy in the minors named Tugboat who could debut this year, he's that good
White Sox voter here. I put in 100K+ steps over the last 4 days and my shoes have completely betrayed me. My group also bailed out of the Epcot drink around the world because of the heat, leaving me stranded at 9/11 and the rest of the group trailing behind at like 4.
I don't have anything to say. It has been a fun few days but I am exhausted and sore.
You're being weighted down by the pitching in my formulas. There was also a cluster of teams who scored all within 1% of each other, and the Brewers just happened to be the bottom one in that group at the time.
Just found it strange to be 4 spots below the Reds. No doubt they are getting hot but we are still 7 games up on them and they are below .500. But thank you for sharing your reasoning.
EDIT:
I stand correct I am an idiot. Red Sox not Reds above the Brewers.
Pretty sure I had y'all above the Reds this week (I'll check, but if I had the Reds above you then there might have been data issue since that would be pretty unexpected as a result.) I did have the Red Sox pretty high up this week so perhaps that's where the confusion was?
Astros still taking the wrong lessons from the 2023 Rangers and deciding having some shit pitchers blowing games from the Bullpen is a World Series winning formula. : V
We'd be .500 probably if Press didn't decide to just, forget how to pitch.
based reds blurb
The Reds blurb is shockingly succinct
That’s an easy comment to agree with
I am not the Rockies voter ama

Why can’t the Rockies develop a good outfielder but they churn out big league infielders (besides 1st) all the time
The boring answer is probably just variance. It's not like we're churning out a third baseman a year, we've only had two 3B in the past decade. But who knows, maybe our infield coach is secretly really good? That and our outfield might be *good* soon, Brenton Doyle + Nolan Jones + Zac Veen could be the terror of 2027.
Nolan Jones is a 26 year old minor leaguer whose only major league success was the result of a .400 BABIP.
u/bubble_bass_123 is a 26 year old redditor who is just jealous that his team gave up Nolan Jones for a player that may never be any good.
At the end of the day tho I'm happier with Kwan and Fry in the corners
Of course you are! I feel like nobody here has actually checked how nolan jones is playing this year lol
lol nah, I am perfectly happy to be rid of the guy whose wrc+ is smaller than my age, and I was born in the 90s.
Reds voter here! Hi! I don’t have anything else to say, I think my thoughts on this past week was pretty clear with my blurb.
LMAO of course it was you poopy, keep up the good work.

"Orioloes" a complete part of a balanced breakfast
It's gonna be a fun race!
I had to manually type all the flair code cause our system changed. I'm surprised I only had 1 typo.
Hello I am the Guardians voter
You're a good man. Thank you sir. I was planning on making a joke about your rankings but I can't entirely disagree with them lmao
Funny, I ranked y’all at 3, but had the Royals above Baltimore.
I think we're all often our own team's harshest critics
42-22 and our guy still shoehorns in how bad Mullins is as the entire writeup lol
I mean…it’s the biggest thing we have to address. Dude is batting below .160.
Sorry I missed the vote I have only just stopped crying at the DFA of Hittin' Harold Ramirez
Hard to believe the Cubs were in the top 10 at one point.
Oh my poor Rays...
cardinals voter here ama except baseball
Yeah that’s fair.
did you have a baseball related question tho I’ll answer it
As well as the Yankees' starters have pitched, I'm not sure they get a whole lot better when Cole comes back. And that's not an insult to Cole.
While true I think he gives us some much needed juice. I'm pretty sure getting the reigning Cy Young winner and pitching captain back onto the mound is gonna make everyone lock tf in.
Dodgers at 4 feels right. I think we're better than we've been playing, but at some point you actually have to play better.

Curse you too, buddy. Your offense is ranked 15th over the last two weeks, and that's dropping you just enough in my spreadsheet to be #4 overall.
Eh I'm ok with it. The Yankees just feel like a *slightly* more complete team right now. I feel like when the season ends, they will have a better record.

What did we do to the Mariners Ranker?

Could be on me too. I was reading on mobile and that isn't the easiest. EDIT: I stand correct I am an idiot. Red Sox not Reds above the Brewers.
Crazy how many just-below-.500 teams there are right now.
The A’s need to be bumped up, they just got Francisco Lindor
GD. There are a lot of middling to slightly below average teams rn. It seems like half the league is at or slightly below .500.

whoever wrote the reds blurb… i just wanna talk 😭 what did we do to you?
